I'm trying to figure out how to use SketchUp to create a helical knurl on a cylindrical surface like in this SolidWorks tutorial: ruclips.net/video/Kpx8Csn1T24/видео.html I've managed to draw the helical cutting path along the face of the cylinder but I'm having problems maintaining the orientation of my 'cutting tool' shape because _follow me_ automatically reorients the extruded shape to be perpendicular to the first segment on the path.

watch some youtube video of how to sketch a screw in sketchup. It has same structure. you can do it without using helix plugin

If you have SketchUp 2018, it's built it - just go to file, export, and select DXF

You draw it wrong. Where is the big groove and the little groove? You should take the example from the correct drawing.
Well with this method you should be able to draw it however you'd like
