    Hello Dr. Is there a correlation between weight training and hair loss. I am 37 and first starting losing hair when I was 20. It was when I first started working out. Over the years, I have lost a lot of hair (first, receding of hairline and over the past five years - diffused thinning). I dont take any workout supplements. I restored my temples and hairline via HT six years ago.
    I have noted a pattern that when I start a routing of heavy weight training, I lose a lot or hair and very quickly too. The hair density as of today is poor on the head. I had Fin for five years where I noted the hairfall was in control. But later, Fin proved no longer effective at stopping hair fall. I have recently resumed Fin and also started min. My HT hair are also thinning rapidly.
    With nature of effect weight training has on my hairloss, will I never be ablet to build muscle without having an empty head? I have a family history of hairloss.

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  11 месяцев назад

      Hi @rohanchopra1539,
      There is no correlation between weight training and genetic pattern hair loss. The rate of your hair thinning likely increased when you stopped using finasteride to block DHT formation to slow the rate of hair thinning. Progressive hair thinning continues after hair transplant surgery, and the rate is faster without additional treatment
      You can refer to this video on how we can improve hair transplant results, and thicken both native and transplanted hair with our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment, even on male patients taking finasteride consistently, as well as why treatment is still needed for progressive hair thinning after a hair transplant - ruclips.net/video/rIlI55F478w/видео.html

    Hello sir , i am 24 year old male , was diagnosed with diffuse adrogenitic alopecia (on vertex and temple area)on june 2022 . I was prescribed with minoxidil 5% plus .1% finateride solution (alcohol based solution) twice daily and biotin tablets ( for four months) and a ketoconazole shampoo . I also took 10 sessions of prp. After a year ( june 2023) i saw a little progress but my hairfall didn't reduce . Then i switched to non- alcohol based 5% minoxidil plus .1% finasteride solution to see if the hairfall reduces . Although i saw my hair getting thicker after next 3 months (till September 2023) i still had hairfall and also got side effects like headaches and itchiness and dandruff. I had to wash my hair everyday with shampoo to reduce the dandruff and itchiness . So now i wondering if i should i switch to oral minoxidil and oral finastride as i am not able to bare the scalp irritation and the hassle of application of the solution twice everyday . My main question was will i lose my hair that i gained from topical minoxidil plus finastride solution if i switch to oral minoxidil and oral finastride or will the results be better ? Also can you suggest the dosage for the same .

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  10 месяцев назад

      Hi @ikusdeepsingh4230,
      Since minoxidil does delay the natural hair shedding cycle so you appear to have more hair on your head, if you stop using it, or possibly if switch to oral minoxidil, it is possible you will have a sudden hair shed. Minoxidil doesn't treat hair thinning directly.
      Oral finasteride is more effective than topical as DHT is in the bloodstream, not just in the scalp. Finasteride is a prescription medication, with a standard dosage of 1mg daily, so you need to ask your doctor to prescribe it to you.
      Our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration patients don't need to use minoxidil at all after our treatment, although I would still prescribe finasteride to male patients your age due to high DHT-sensitivity, and because our treatment is not a DHT-blocker, but our treatment can thicken thinning hair, and stimulate more hair growth in men who've already been on finasteride for years. You can refer to these videos about it:

      Hi @Tatyanarodrigo,

    I mean Minoxodil works by prolonging anagen so wouldnt applying Minoxodil every 24 hours actually keep inducing shedding for some people due to reintroducing the drug on and on and on because its half life in the skin is 20-22 hours?

      Hi @Wagwanmatee6,
      Of the few patients I have that continue with minoxidil, I only have them apply it once a day. The main issue with minoxidil is sustaining results, which can be lost as it becomes less effective over time, or if you stop using it. You can refer to these videos about the limits of minoxidil, and why our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration patients can stop using it altogether after our injection treatment:

      Hi @mohamedthajmeel9715,
      PRP alone is not enough to treat male pattern hair loss, especially in the long-term. As answered in the video, finasteride is more effective than minoxidil for long-term treatment of pattern hair loss in men, but it is a prescription medication so you need to see a doctor for a prescription before taking it. You are right that minoxidil can lose effectiveness over time, and that if you stop using it you can shed a lot of hair and lose gains. Hi @gr8vijay,
      The stress on your body from surgery, can cause temporary hair shedding, and if general anesthesia is used it can add more stress to the body. However, shed hair grows back. Genetic pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning, as shed hair grows back thinner, and there is delay in regrowth. You can discuss risks with the doctor who prescribed you finasteride. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Since minoxidil delays the hair shedding cycle, and prolongs the hair growth cycle, if you stop using it, you will likely have a significant hair shed. • @AmiyaPrasadMD

      Hi @Mabykolibale,
      Genetic pattern hair loss is caused by genetics, and environmental factors do not accelerate hair thinning. Identical twins are not completely identical, for example there are identical twins who seem to have the same face, but they have different hairlines (Google the Sedin twins, former pro hockey players). Identical twins do not have the exact same dominant and recessive genes, so genetic pattern hair loss can manifest differently, even in identical twins. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi @jon12998,
      While topical minoxidil does work better for hair loss than oral, minoxidil is a limited treatment as effects wane with time, and you can lose all your gains if you stop using it. As explained in the video, our patients don't need to use minoxidil at all after our injection treatment. You can refer to these videos about the limitations of minoxidil:

    Sir if a person done constant hair pulling from his donor area before hair transplant will it affects his hair transplant results . thereby the same hair follicles used for his hair transplant will it be fine if those hair follicles are not damaged and still alive any problem if he done hair pulling in his past?
    I can explain this condition in detail
    I became very much concerned about my hair loss at that time i pulls my hair to cheack whether my hair falling out or not. I done this in my donor area too. Gradually this became a habit i done this process for more than an year. My concern is that for doing a hair transplant i need to extract grafts from donor area so it will remove the grafts that i pulled in the past. Will my hair transplant surgery fails beacuse of pulling those hairs in the past 😢 is it okay to do a surgery if those hair follicles are healthy and alive not weak. Or my hair follicle will go weak after hair transplant because of hair pulling in the past 😢

      Hi @PallaviaadhiAdithya-td3zr,
      Pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning, not hair falling out suddenly and not growing back. Shed hair does grow back. If you keep pulling on your hair, you can permanently damage hair follicles due to tension, which is called traction or tension alopecia.
      I generally don't recommend hair transplants for men under 30, and the cause of your hair loss needs to be properly diagnosed first. You can refer to these videos about why hair transplants are not recommended for men in their 20s, and how we diagnose and treat male pattern hair loss:

      Hi@@PallaviaadhiAdithya-td3zr,
      If the hair follicle is not damaged, then it may be used as a hair graft. Before I can say you can have a hair transplant, how old are you? Ethical hair transplant surgeons don't recommend hair transplants for men under 30, or women with diffuse hair thinning throughout the scalp.

    Minoxidil has wreaked havoc on my body! It's taking me weeks to get it out my system from just 1 application! I get hives or itchy skin all over my chest if I have tomato based foods or berries. The scalp itching lasted 2 weeks and even after this I am still sensitive and break out from certain foods.

      Hi @abdomahfouad4699,
      If you watch the video, I still prescribe finasteride to my male patients so they can maximize their hair loss management. Anyone who has used minoxidil knows that is not a sustainable treatment as results can be lost if you stop using it, or effectiveness is lost over time, but this after they've purchased the drug multiple times, so minoxidil is the costly treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.
