This year marks a generational improvement to phone camera tech. Larger sensors, more pixel dense arrays, a focus on higher quality video. The V60 takes advantage of this new trend, and it's right on the pulse. Images are more photographic. Video is more cinematic. Low light performance is incredible. Yet for all the improvements we see on this main camera, this is still a "cost cutting" year for LG. Some of the peripheral camera tech hasn't kept up as well...

Personally like the lg phones, UI can get used to but the v30 and v30+ had the best display and design , no notch.
It is one of the best in v series , I'm still using v 30, new v series lack cine LOG feature ( for post processing) plus not higher pixels display

What I've noticed when you shoot pictures in the 4:3 64mp mode in polarr, the photo editing app I use the images show up as 50mp whereas just using the non 64mp mode it'll show up as 16.04mp.
I don't save my photos in heif and polarr doesn't support them so I can't see if that affects the mp count used, but honestly either image looks great lol.
I'm comparing the v20 camera performance to the v60 and it's honestly night and day. Since a lot of people are still strong arming the v20 I wanted to make that comparison, but even compared to the G8 the improvements are definitely noticable.
I'm running gcam software on my lg v60 , my question , is there an app similar to the good lock app Samsung has for the v60?

Define "not expensive". For instance, I use Pinnacle P1 IEMs on my V20s, so that I can take advantage of the DACs high impedance mode. However, these cost around 120 USD at most, so I don't know if that's considered expensive or not for you

@@Chadslawncare13 they're available in Amazon or Drop. I have the Drop version, and one you need to know is that the paint eventually chips. Other than that, works great
Does the v60 rec 10bit video or in cinelog like v30 ?
Can you tell the difference between the new screen from the newer lg phones like the g8x and v60 1080p vs the LGv50? Im thinking about getting the v50 off eBay. Also, is the lgv50 big in the pocket for you? Lgv60 looks too big for my taste lol.
I definitely can side by side when I set font to the absolute smallest pitch. Out and about though, general use, especially using dual screen where the phone is a little farther away from your face (talking inches difference), the resolution drop hasn't been as much of a compromise as I was worried it would be.
V50 in the dual screen case is still chonky too, but it's not as big as the SURFBOARD V60.

I haven't handled the V50S, but it looks like the G8X we got. At those prices, I'd probably lean V50.

there's no difference at all between 1080 pannel and 2k pannel , but i think that the pannel of LG V60 is better than the V50 because it's a lot birghter with more Nits on it , and also V60 Screen is Bigger and the Dual Screen is Too much Better , so defenitely u will have Better Multi_Media and Multi-Tasking experience in V60 , so, Overall the V60 win In Screen and it's a big upgrade in Camera Capibilities and Quality in Both Rear and Front Cameras Set up

Dear Juan, There is no way i can buy LG V60 unlocked with dual screens on the web and import it to Australia. I am so disappointed I had a G6 and loved it now my Pixel 3a 64gb isn't enough and its not a multitasking device. Should I wait for LG V70? but what if they choose US carriers only.
I'm a little upset,because I waited and waited for the v60 on sprint,and I decided to just give the G8x a try. Later I figured out,it's rumored due to the T mobile merge,sprint isn't taking any new phones besides the iPhone and new galaxies until after August when they drop the sprint name. Blows.
I feel your pain. But since they are both merging, (and the frequencies the phone uses also include the Sprint ones) I figured I get and try the V60 on T-Mobile and keep my Note 10+ on Sprint. It ends up that I use it more than the Note 10+. I love this phone.
Hey guys what is the lg quad dac means?(is it a single dac with quad core or is it a 4 dac ? ) I m new in audiophile grade gear.

Juan, is LG Velvet gonna get in your hands? So far it seems like LG is really betting on design but the price of that thing makes Xiaomi MI 10 look like an obvious choice.

I never really cared too much about image quality but so far lg phones have been the best handling, even the auto mode. Too bad it doesn't come with a telephoto because I genuinely like the look of a 50 or 75mm equivalent lens. I don't really care if it decides for me when to use the telephoto, but at least in bright situations I get the look that I want. But I think I will still get the oneplus over this because that had always been the better overall phone and also because they don't sell the V60 here. They've only just started selling the v50 and that's through 3rd party imports
With 16mp wide angle on g7-v50 u can get 7.6mp depth data
I don't like this dedicated tof or depth cam (velvet)

Other reviewers like David Imel said that the pictures are not sharp, clear, bad quality! And those are biased and coming from an ameture! I believe Juan and his review
It's pros and cons. If you LIKE the over-sharpened look from Samsung, then LG will look kinda dull. I personally prefer starting with a less manipulated image and slapping on my own edits or filters.
Lg G8 vs v30. Which is better??
V30 has better microphones, but everything else is better on the G8.

LG's big problem is sharing and exporting. You cant send hdr video, you cant send 3D portraits and you can send high quality audio recording.

I can't justify spending that type of money on a LG v60 simply because all that money all that hardware and you'll be lucky to get one OS update if you're lucky let alone monthly Android security patches LG isn't alone in this Samsung HTC they all have a bad track record of timely updates

Can you really call this the best phone for mobile content creators when it's missing some key features that other smartphones provide and also the fact that you can get an S20 on ebay for about 700-800USD now.

We'll miss the creepy tunnel, the creepy gate, shrubs on a fence, tree in field, palm tree bark too. Great review, can always count on you for deep dives into camera performance

I'm really impressed with the V60 this year. The pivot was a little hard for me to fully understand but the choices LG made for this phone make it a great choice for top tier specs. The camera is so impressive I'm excited to see you out it against the same sensor in the TCL phones!

I listed the equivalent focal length, it's roughly 27mm. I don't know what the crop factor is on this sensor though.

I want to buy this phone but, I'm on Verizon and it's $950. I'm also in a pickle when I can buy a brand new V40 through best buy for $300. My Pixel 3 XL broke and I miss my manual camera modes that my V20 had. Would love some feedback form others if I should save my money and get the V40 or just upgrade to the V60, thanks!

They didn't even released it in SK, so I wouldn't hold my breath. But if you're not into 5G you can import one from Switzerland. But 5G is locked to swisscom and it's only single SIM 256GB. 1150€ with dualscreen.

I didn't know we needed to update LG via USB. I updated my g7 to 9.0 yesterday and installed gcam for Android pie. And it's a bigger upgrade than almost any generational leap! ❤️
LG isn't the easiest, but the recent software updates have been excellent.

They aren't too expensive out there, but just watch the useed ones on the USBC port. That was the Achilles heel of the v60.
How were they able to make it $200 cheaper with the bigger camera sensor and bigger screen and battery and sd865? Where did they cut costs exactly? Or were they taking a loss on them?
No telephoto camera, no 120Hz, 1080p instead of QHD. I'm sure there might have been some other differences, but I think the idea was to make the "base" phone more accessible, and upsell things like dual display cases and stylus accessories.

i still find super high res camera on phones are not really that important cause more pixels doesn't always provide the best Image quality. if phone makers really want to have a real major improvement on camera quality i hope they'll gonna do it with true 1inch size image sensor and lets say 20mp res. and i hope LG will be the first one to have it and just imagine with lg's great image processing combined with top tier 1inch sensor from sony the result will be better than what we expect and i can finally say goodbye to sony's rx100 and canon's g7x
The resolution really doesn't matter as much as the sensor surface area. Like on the OP8 vs 8 Pro. Same Megapickle count, BIG difference in performance.

It’s great that it has manual modes, but using 3rd party content creation camera apps on other phones is also something that would be done by serious content creators ? In that case, is there a benefit to LG’s app aside from not having to buy it?
And those apps generally aren't as fully featured or as convenient as a built in camera app. Filmic is great, but I have a number of phones that don't get proper support for things like 4K60. A OnePlus 8 can't shoot 4K60? No other app i've seen supports audio like LG's camera app. Both for monitoring AND for recording from that awesome headphone jack. Better than just meters, is full waveform support.
Of course "serious" creators can work around the limitations of other platforms, but ultimately the point still stands. Out of the box, NO ADDITIONAL PURCHASES, LG has the top overall option for controlling your shot, and if you add those extra apps and services, you're only going to be "competitive", you won't find "better".

I bought the v60 coming from m v30 expecting greatness. The first thing I noticed is the rear glass has an uneven gap running around the seam where it is supposed to meet the frame of the phone. I was able to pinch it closed or catch a nail on it to pull it. The rear glass doesn't sit flush with the frame, at some parts it has some slight overhang. Second issue I had was the front of the frame was sharp as hell. Like they ran it through the CNC and didnt even deburr or soften the edge at all. It was sharp enough to shave my fingernail. Final issue I had was the screen. I didn't think 1080p on a smartphone would matter due to the small screen, but I was wrong. Coming from a 1440p v30 (a 4 year old phone) I noticed that icons and small thumbnails just looked soft and lacked detail. Especially with icons, they looked like the devs didnt update to an HD icon, then I noticed it was the screen that was the probem.
As someone who came from an LGv30 and absolutely loved it (I am only upgrading due to a cracked screen and degraded battery), this phone was a major disappointment. I feel like LG dropped the ball on quality control and design choices, ultimately making me go for a Oneplus 8 Pro.
I hope the lg velvet will be better option.

I'll be curious to see if we get that "BIG" update this year. Every LG phone seems to get one major camera feature improvement. Like last year when we got Software Stabilization on the V50 and G8 at 4K60.
