LG V60 ThinQ Review: It's Big.

  • LG V60 Review! LG's next big thing is REALLY big. I've used terms like "monster" before, but the V60 is a beast. With a handful of small compromises, this phone is shaping up to be the top option for productivity and multi-asking, while offering amazing features for content creation and gaming. Very few phones can really do it all. The V60 is on that list.

    Detailed, thoughtful review. Juan deserves a lot of credit for sticking to his guns in doing deep dives and focusing on substance, while some many other reviewers have moved to the over stylized, gloss-over, Instagram-style, "5 things to know"-type of reviews for an increasingly smaller selection on phones. Keep up the good work!

    As a RUclips creator myself I had been putting off buying a new phone in 2020. After a ton of careful considerations I have ordered a V60. It has some really great features and compromises just enough to give me the most bang for the buck. (excuse the pun) Thank you for the reviews on it as you really made me do a ton of research before I made my decision to purchase.

    Great review. I actually just returned my V60 after 2 weeks of use. I just couldn't get past LGs UI. It wasn't bad but the few differences like the app drawer drove me nuts. I ended up going back to the Note 10 plus.

      PS: Your argument about not getting a flagship phone sounds logical, but it disregards the fact that it is the flagships that get consistently more software updates, sooner updates, and for longer periods. I can see your reasoning would make more sense for iPhones, though there aren't any midrange iPhones, unless you resort to getting a new, or used, one that is 1-2 years older. Ie in 2020 skipping the iPhone 11 Pro, and buying an iPhone X or iPhone XS instead.

    • @juwon1234
      @juwon1234 4 года назад +1

      @@ekinteko I will like to disagree with your arguments. update all boils down to the manufacturers. Yes it true that more of the non flagship /mid-range / low end might not but this can be said also for flagships as well.Example Nokia don't really do flagship phones but majority of their phones get an update so is the Motorola. The update really depends on the manufacturers and how well the phone sold or not.

      I wear hearing aids and im still the advocate for keeping headphone Jack. Its removal doesn't benefit the consumer, and no technology had replaced it in terms of hearing quality. Bluetooth doesn't count, and carrying a dongle is extra bullshit not needed in the first place.
      It's amazing how some consumers buy into things so laid out for the corporation's interest, not ours.

    • @mistamaog
      @mistamaog 4 года назад +23

      @@BodethIII Exactly. Bluetooth can be nice, at convenient at times, but overall I still find wired headphones more convenient and practical. Plus carrying a dongle means you're going to be plugging things in and out of the charging port more often than before, prematurely wearing it out.
      I've had my charging ports wear out. Not fun with you finally get it plugged in right, only for an hour or so later to realize that a sudden movement cause it to not charge.

    The V60 but is huge and everything else is too expensive for less than I need. Even if you spent a GRAND on a new phone you'd STILL need a $250 dragonfly DAC JUST to match the audio quality of what's already in my v40. Along with a stupid dongle.

    Dude, I agree SO much. I was literally shaking my head as you talked about "average use" and what consumers actually need. I see so many people I know waste hundreds, and even thousands of dollars on top of the line phones like the s20 ultra and iPhone 11 Pro and other phones like that, and then when I see them use it, they only text and call and watch one or two RUclips videos a day. It aggravates me to see such good tech going to waste. People should really keep in mind what you said. Most mid-range phones today are packing some good specs for a good price. Sure, it may not have a 90hz refresh rate or a Quad HD (some mid-range phones do tho) display, but it gets the job done well. Mid-range phones as a whole are being slept on. Now, people like me who play tons of graphic intensive games, does a crap ton of calling, texting, RUclips, Netflix, Vrv, Hulu, and music consumption... People that do things like that should buy higher prices phones with better specs that will actually be used. Most people today wouldn't even notice the difference between 8-16 gb's of RAM, and a lot wouldn't even fill up 128gbs of storage in a lifetime. They wouldn't notice the difference between a 90hz and a 120hz (I do though. I like high refresh rates but it isn't a must for me). I need 128 gb's of storage for all my music, images, memes, videos, pictures (I travel a lot), and games, etc. Now, the person next to me (hypothetical) doesn't do all that, and yet they buy the exact same phone and let it go to waste. And yeah, it's nice having the best camera for people like me who travel a lot and are super active, so the V60 is a major go. But there are other people who should just buy cheaper phones like the Pixel 3a (or XL model) if they want good overall camera performance for average, daily use. Sorry for kind of ranting lol, just my thoughts. Also, everyone is different, so you can't really group a group of people into one category because everyone has different needs. Also, your review was absolutely amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed your video, and would like to see more about the V60.

I really, really love this V60. There are a couple of annoyances, but the overall package is amazing, and I still have yet to try out the dual-screen since I had to redeem that separately. I love the headphone jack, the screen is great. I find the fingerprint sensor quicker than the one on the Note 10+, and the camera has been great. The reason why HDR looks fine on the phone / tv and washed out on your PC is because your TV and phone have HDR hardware enabled certified screens, and your PC/Mac doesn't.
    LG and Sony HDR video is not just a fancy filter applied over a default video, videos are actually recorded and encoded as HDR - hence you need and HDR capable screen to view it properly.

    Honkai Impact 3rd can be very demanding on phones. Especially the new "A Post-Honkai Odyssey" open world mode.

    Love this phone. Had an S20 Ultra at launch. Is it hard to believe I like this phone better? Lol. And that dual screen is SO COOL! Very happy with the phone over all.

      Ultra seems like it would be a fun fight, but its a tough fight at $500 more 😳

      @@SomeGadgetGuy yeah I pay cash for my phones. So it was hard to watch all that $$ leave my account for a few small improvements.

    FINALLY!!! A video that actually acknowledges Pro Modes in the camera. Yes, the average person won't use them, but this isn't a phone meant for "average" users!
    You just got another sub for this one!

      Makes me crazy. We shouldn't be pushing$1000 phones on folks just covering the basics.

    Lg phones are worth to buying. But people don't understand that what they need in a phone they always go for higher specs.

    Great review. I got my LG V60 yesterday and after applying a Zagg Glass protector the under the screen fingerprint reader stopped working. Anything you recommend? Thank you and keep up the great work.

      What if you use a vinyl (film) one instead of a glass protector?

      @@TheNegative1 I actually got it working. Not sure why I was having trouble at first.
      Personally I miss the physical fingerprint reader they had in the V50.

      Marc Stern what is your opinion about this v60
      What issues do you have?
      How is the camera quality at indoors?
      How is the battery life on cellular data?
