    On what mic where these vocals recorded with? Sounds good even without mixing

  • @rodmonstar
    @rodmonstar Год назад

    could one argue that doing these depend on what key you're singing in? like could you save the your eq settings if you find yourself singing in the same key again? or does really more depend on the optics of how you record each specific session & how you sing different tracks?

  • @ulrichbergmann1347
    @ulrichbergmann1347 2 года назад +3

    Did u used a dynamic microphone for vocal recording? Sound a bit dull, typical for dynamics. Before i would use an EQ i would try different microphones with different distance to the microphone, to find out if any setup bring the sound i want. When i find the "best" one than maybe no more hard EQing is needed.
    Ever try to make the recording good as possible and not think "i will fix it in the mix"
    When u did a near perfect sounding recording, the EQs u need are high- and low-cuts and maaaybe 1-2 bands EQ for reducing resonance frequencies. Send this signal to a nice vocal compressor, for example Waves Renaissance Vox, bring u an analogish and breathing air sound.
    Deessers are often used and often not needed when the microphone setup is well. The most semi-professionals setup the microphone in the way the membran is 90° to the mouth, so u catch maximum explosive sounds and hissing stuff. Flip the angle of the microphone a bit and the result is much better, simple "trick" near nobody use.
    One think u do very suboptimal, do not use any EQ when u solo a track, this fake your ears very fast. Ever use EQs when the full mix is on. It make less sense when u tweek a signal when u got no reference u know u need to tweek to. Try.

    How do you like the LEWITT LCT 440 PURE? Or is RODE NT1-A better?

    • @bigacreations
      @bigacreations  2 года назад

      They are different. Personally I prefer the ride nt1-a but the lewitt is a great mic too.

    • @ulrichbergmann1347
      @ulrichbergmann1347 2 года назад

      Both are budget microphones and so they sound. NT1-A got a strange boost in the high frequencies, from other brands we call it "china highs".
      The Lewitt is a bit more neutral but bring similar sound. Both are great for speach. Podcasters and RUclipsrs will be happy. For a vocalist it is not the best choice for the money.
      Maybe give the Sontronics STC-2 a chance. This mic sound similar to a U67 and is unbeatable in this price class.

    I notice that when i put flex pitch one it doesnt sound smooth i hear the robot in it when i listing to other songs it sound so smooth does this depents on the mic do i need to use a other auto tune already tried correcting can you help me with it love from the Netherlands ❤️🇳🇱

    • @bigacreations
      @bigacreations  2 года назад

      It may be the way you are processing your vocals. Your mic should never make your voice sound robotic. Also, just know that if you don’t fine tune your vocals with flex pitch, you might get unwanted artifacts in your vocal, that could be causing the robotic sound you’re describing.

    Any freq that you boost +15 dB will sound bad....

    • @dwaaaiii8757
      @dwaaaiii8757 2 года назад +1

      💯

    • @bigacreations
      @bigacreations  2 года назад

      Yes, that is correct. Any frequency boosted too much sounds awful. When I’m boosting frequencies as I’m hunting, I’m listening for qualities in that frequency that I don’t like. They are more easily identifiable when you boost them first. This is simply a technique to help people who don’t have experience in mixing identify which frequencies can be problematic when trying to achieve a specific sound.
      Also, keep in mind this is only one step in the process. Compression and other steps in mixing will help you more obviously hear what else needs to be fixed in your EQ.

    • @bluematrix5001
      @bluematrix5001 2 года назад +2

      @@bigacreations better do it with a more narrow Q and with a lesser boost, that way you can really pinpoint a resonance or a more obvious quality

    • @ulrichbergmann1347
      @ulrichbergmann1347 2 года назад +1

      Correct. I boost max 3-4 db and cut max 3-6 db. Everything else bring u too fare away from the natural sound.
      Only sometimes and more often for instruments more extreme EQ settings can work and bring sometimes a new sound.

  • @alastairgames_
    @alastairgames_ 2 года назад +3

    In my opinion you made your vocal way too thin your voice gets lost in the mix

    • @bigacreations
      @bigacreations  2 года назад +1

      Remember this vocal only has EQ on it....no compression at all. The EQ in this example is simply to lay the groundwork for what will then pop in the mix after finishing processing the vocals :)

    • @ulrichbergmann1347
      @ulrichbergmann1347 2 года назад

      when u hear the vocal on solo it sound a bit thin maybe. But she did it well. Female vocals often can have a wider range of lowcut, but at least u must hear it in the mix.

  • @dwaaaiii8757

    My head hurts after seeing her substracting that way and that too without any gain compensation?? 😂😂😂
    To anyone wanting to learn mixing/engineering, stop watch these kinda RUclips videos teaching you complete shit.
    Andrew Zeleno, House of Kush, White Sea studio, Dan Worrall, Produce like a pro, Marc Daniel Nelson, SonicScoop, Pro audio files, Sean Divine, Paul the Third, In the mix these are some real genuine channels teaching you the right things and not just playing around with your attention span.

    • @DN-fp6kg
      @DN-fp6kg 2 года назад +2

      That's the problem with RUclips, you can never really trust people like that....she legit boosted the frequencies to find and then cut! And ofc no gain compensation. She claims to be doing this for 10 yrs!???!?.... it's all fucked up man.

    • @dwaaaiii8757
      @dwaaaiii8757 2 года назад

      I mean it's terrible to pretend like that. Especially when she's got quite a number of subscribers!

    • @bigacreations
      @bigacreations  2 года назад +1

      If you know about mixing/engineering, then you know that EQ is only one step. Gain compensation happens afterwards to check your work, along with a bunch of other things.
      This Is simply a technique that is proven to help people better understand why certain EQ decisions are made and have become standard. People also get too hung up on the process and forget that mixing is subjective and all about taste.
      If you don’t like the way I arrived at my conclusions, that’s fine. Not hate from me ☺️ You’re entitled to your own opinion and can make whatever decisions you want with your mixes. But you can’t argue with the fact that my final EQ sounds fine, and is in line with any other standard EQ you’ll find on any track these days.
      I wish you the best with your music and search for more resources on mixing.

    • @dwaaaiii8757
      @dwaaaiii8757 2 года назад

      @@bigacreations well gain compensation isn't about 'checking'...it keeps the effort of gain staging consistent, lets you take decisions based on consistent volume and you're not just fooling yourself by hearing it just louder.
      I hope you know louder sounds more fuller and has more high end, quiter sounds more midrangey...that can lead you to take bad decisions and isn't a consistent way.
      Personally i found that you made the vocals too thin, maybe that's your taste but this is just misleading...even 2 dbs of volume change makes a significant impact and it's okay you've been doing it wrong and if it works for you but when you make a " tutorial", people watching and many don't have access to proper education. It's bad to just teach them the wrong things. Gain compensation is crucial during mixing, every good engineer knows it.
