Dude this is such a great channel!! Once you get to a certain level it's hard to find really solid advice. Right here is one of the best I've seen! Don't get why you don't have a shitload of followers... These are really great concepts that can take you to the next level! Thanks and praise friend! ✌🤘
Why are there almost no comparisons (especially not good quality) of the Lauten Eden LT 386 to other equally expensive mics, or mics that already have legendary status like the u87 ai, Brauner vm1/vmx/vma, telefunken ela m 251, sony c800G, U67 etc. Also the cheaper classics like tlm 103, tlm 49, and all other brands. That means I want to listen to it with all common mics that are used for vocals. I need a full vocal test for Lauten Eden.( Speaking, singing, rapping /Male low & high voice + female low & high voice)
My trick works much better: • Track vocals on Sony C800-G... Done! Knockoff mics and modelers don't cut it, a Sony C800 won't cut it, even using the wrong tube in a C800-G won't do the trick.; but the correct Ukrainian-made Sony tubes in the mic and power supply through a Neve or Avalon channel strip/preamp.... The raw vocals come out better than a well processed vocal tracked on a lesser mic.
hmm, if you use that MB first in the chain, is it also to take out the mud , boxy tones also? and if yes, then what is the Q3 after for? Doesn’t the Q3 do the same thing with the dynamic mode?
I dont get it, how does putting the blue band there make it only compress during syballance. wheres the desser thats being triggered? Why do you put the triggering blue bar at the highest end and not in the 7k range band where the symballance is? Clear as mud
Hey Colt I am From india your videos are most valuable for me everytime mainly your EQ video bt i want a reverb mixing video from you. can you do this for me please
Have you tried Melodyne with sibilance? It works with Finnish language (where's very harsh sibilance ALL THE TIME) very well.. Yes, it's kinda clumsy to use but a few times it did the trick for me when nothing else didn't.
If you're talking about the Fabfilter EQ, it is too slow - no attack/release controls. Other dynamic EQs with attack and release would be better IMO than the MB.
interesting that you put your deEsser first. I usually have it later, after i’ve done some processing because thats when I end up noticing the sibilance. what's your thoughts on that?
So my thought is rather than try to tame sibilance after I’ve created the problem, solve the problem earlier in the chain so when I’m boosting top, end on a vocal, it’s a more even balance between the vocal and sibilance in the EQ boost. Hope that makes sense.
I actually go and manually turn down the sibilances! But the way you use the pro-mb on this video seems to be as effective and faster. Quality content!
@@ebraheemrana correct, clip gain automation is my best friend, just zoom and edit the Sssss sounds down until they sound the way you want, removes sibilance before the plugin chain!
@@ebraheemrana You could do it automating a Gain utility plugin so that way you don't mess with your volume fader! In Logic is called 'Gain', 'Utility' in Ableton Live and I believe in Pro Tools would be 'Trim'
dang thats actually amazing. Ive been doing 2 Pro-DS on different bands, but this seems way more controlled and unified...and one less plugin in the chain. Thankya Colt!!
Your content is top notch. Always packed with great info, straight to the point, and without any annoying gimmicks just to get clicks. Keep up the good work!
What if my voice produces a natural bad bad resonance at about 2800 hz? Happens with every room treatment and mic position. Do you think I can just use a midrange narrow band, attenuate a lot and compensate with make up gain only in the range affected?
I typically don't use the Pro-MB for attacking those harsh frequencies but after seeing this and knowing the plugin, it makes perfect sense. Def going to try this.
My mind is BLOWN! I've never seen anyone do this before. Now I just wish I had a good multiband compressor.. can this be done with MAutodynamicEQ? Hmmm. Or does soothe do this automatically?
I prefer to use the Fabfilter Pro DS, simpler, easier to isolate the sibilance using the audition function etc. Purpose built, much quicker to use and more reliable to get rid of the sibilance IMHOe. But each to their own.
Ok, so here I am at the 1:21 point, listening on a pair of Kali LP6s and I'm thinking that already, the "s"s in your speaking voice are really too loud. The sibilence is way up there. The "sh"s are loud too.
wow.. loved it much more than fab deesser.. surely its not a magic thing that woks eveywhere, but when it does, it doesitvery nice. Thanks of that video, man. All the best for you!
before i watch your videos i use to put a DS after all EQs e COMPs. Now its obvious that its the first thing i have to work on because I really dont want these wrong sibilances getting in the all plugins
Thanks dude appreciate ya. You probably could have used it on your dialogue for the vid it was pretty ssssssy. Do you run another desser after your other inserts such as compression on vox?
Yeah… After watching this video back, it made me realize that I need to overhaul my dialogue vocal chain in the video editing stage lol. I have a whole video over on the tech channel about how I mix my audio for video. But basically I’m just running a four or five band multiband compressor on dialog.
Thank you for the Tip. Are you still using the Focal Sub12 ? Im planning to get the trios 11 after your review and wondering if I need the Sub12 for mastering purpose. Cheers.
Thank you for watching! I am still using it. It is incredible! I haven’t made a video on it yet due to some other big changes coming to the room. Whether or not it’s necessary with the trio 11 really depends on your room and how much low end you want. In a lot of rooms the trio 11 has plenty of bottom, however the sub definitely makes it feel more solid, and the Trios feel more open with the sub taking that low end load off of them. Hope that helps!
O M G. Colt my comment here is not related to this video which is much appreciated though, but I watched an episode of Pensados place from 10 yers ago w Chris Lord Alge , and who’s popping up in the corner office Q’n A ….Colt Capperrune! It was so fascinating to see how far we can go if we stay inspired by our heroes ,and you are the proof seeing you today in that 10 years perspective, man that’s so amazing to see kudos to you!
That’s amazing! I remember that well. The fact that they decided to read my question all those years ago was a big deal to me. Had the chance to hang out with him a few times since then. And most certainly, this career is a marathon, not a sprint.
That's dope, always seemed like a good idea to sidechain a multi band to compress based on a different freq as a trigger... And this does exactly that.
Commented on fabfilters pro-ds video and linked to this video. They should implement this feature in pro-ds2. Less cpu hungry than pro-mb and faster to set up, i imagine.
Great tip. I usually use the EQ3 in dinamic mode, searching the frequencies where the sibilances are in order to cut them out just when they overpass the threshold setting. And if the sibilances are too much out of control, I add a de esser. I`ll try this technique. Thanks for sharing this one!
Great video as always! Could the same effect be achieved by just one shelf band from 2khz up, with the free sidechain set to just the sibilance as you have done so? (Unless you’re specifically looking for different amounts of gain reduction per band)
Great video on de-essing with dynamic EQ. It's short, to the point, and could be a video to favourite and go back to until one has the steps memorized. Thanks.
Good eye! Waves tune is significantly faster. And it automatically tweaks the vocal after scanning it in. So a huge percentage of my work tuning background vocals and harmonies is done just by scanning it into waves tune. However, it’s definitely not as transparent so I use Melodime on the lead vocals. Takes way longer, but sounds better. But for harmonies and background vocals, the time savings is worth it, since the lack in transparency isn’t noticeable.
Why 2 band instead of 1 high shelf that goes lower? Is it sounding better with these 2 bands or you just got used to doing it this way and didn't consider one shelf with internal sidechain listening to 10k range only? Personally I like using 2 Fabfilter Pro-DS plugins set to 2 different ranges (4k-8k and 8k-12k) in Allround mode with WideBand mode to avoid changes in the eq.
Are used to bands because it gives me more control. The hardest part of siblings is down in that 4K range to my ears. So depending on the vocal, sometimes I will want that lower band hitting harder than the high shelf, or vice versa.
Gonna give that a try, thanks! I use Fabfilter de-ess...but also have their MB....so will try that.....that 2-5k harshness vs clarity is tough stuff to balance.
What’s YOUR favorite DeEsser??
I think now, Pro- MB!
I always used C1 from Waves or mb from FabFilter, but homie your tip is awesome. I didn't even know about this setting
Now, it is this one you are using.
PRO-DS, in combination with the sibilance control in Melodyne 5 💪
Soothe2 is my favorite to use as a de esser

Hope it helps dude!
That is not a trick you gave us, it's called magic. 😆 Thank you so much.
Great video, thank you!
Can you talk about phase rotation and do you fix it while mastering?
hmm, if you use that MB first in the chain, is it also to take out the mud , boxy tones also? and if yes, then what is the Q3 after for? Doesn’t the Q3 do the same thing with the dynamic mode?
how to fix k, p, t sounds in vocal any plugin or somethin please?

I actually go and manually turn down the sibilances! But the way you use the pro-mb on this video seems to be as effective and faster. Quality content!
That’s definitely my next step if I can’t get sibilance under control with this technique! Thanks for the comment!
Me also!
How do you go about doing that manually? Through automation?
@@ebraheemrana correct, clip gain automation is my best friend, just zoom and edit the Sssss sounds down until they sound the way you want, removes sibilance before the plugin chain!

Bro I just tried that. it's outstanding, thank you for this tip man..
Dialing in a slower release time smooth out the top end even more.

Whats with a hardware SPL DeS ?
Mic, Pre, SPL DeS, EQ, Compressor.

Firstly you must use a low cut from 200hz on your speech mic. Thanks for vid
Awesome trick; all the better for how unconventional it is! But what happened to your elbow? :O
Is there a way to do the free band trick on any other multi-band compressor or dynamic eq?
👀‼️🔥🔥This is dope , buuuutttttt this isn’t the only deesser on the vocal right?
