Dentures are your teeth; you wouldn't take your real teeth out, and neither should you take out your dentures; they are a very important part of you. I don't take mine out at night. I just remove them during certain parts of the day when I'm alone. And I rinse the teeth, and my mouth during the night when I use the restroom. Like you I refuse to let others see me without my teeth.

You look about the same age I was when I had to get dentures. Bless your heart for being so confident. I am mid 50's now and still my husband has not seen me without them. Even when I have surgery, I always tell recovery to be sure they are back in before my husband comes in. People don't understand I guess but I have some vanity left. Take care and stay as pretty as you are! You really inspire this ol' lady. LOL God Bless.

Hey ppl, don't ask this lady to remove her teeth for goodness sake! How rude & degrading. She's a lovely woman who has helped many ppl on here. Asking her that, is just plain inappropriate.

I agree with you 100%. I would not want to take mine out either and I don't even like taking them out to sleep because it creates negative thoughts in my mind and I'm no good to myself or anyone for that matter when I am feeling negative. You look GREAT!! Keep smiling.

I know this is not your newest video, but I just found you, and this video in particular was completely inspiring. I am 40, but my mom lost all of her teeth in her 20's after a orthodontic nightmare. Since then, I DREADED ending up like her and my story was somewhat like yours, but my luck came from the fact that my lost teeth were all in areas that were not visible even when I talked. But this last year two got extracted and were quite visible along with a chipped incisor, it is quite a shock to my aesthetic pleasures . My big smile got smaller and smaller and smaller as I hid things as much as I could. My self esteem (I am a therapist BTW) took a HUGE hit because my biggest asset was my crazy funky overbite ridden smile. My mother kept her secret for years, and never showed anyone besides my brother and I. My dad had played a cruel trick once, thinking it was funny, we laugh now, but it was just traumatizing to her at the time. A comb had fallen from her hair in bed and when it poked my dad in the back he grabbed it thinking it was her teeth, and when he saw what it was, closed his hand and said he had her teeth because they had fallen out, just plain wrong, and he didn't get why she just didn't want him to see her that way. We had all kinds of secret promises about if she ever needed surgery or when her time came, that I was to be the holder of the teeth and no one should see her without them in. :(
So now I am in a similar boat but for now, at least, don't need full dentures but do need partials, which anyone who knows, knows eventually at some point, full dentures will be required as the partials lean on natural teeth for support and eventually give out. I had the misfortune of being told I needed jaw surgery at 15 to correct my overbite, much like you did when first offered dentures, I said HELL NO. I truly wish the doctor had insisted and really let it sink in what problems were coming down the road by choosing to just train my jaw to come forward when I spoke. I have been to hell and back, and money has caused my journey to be taking a very long time as I use a university program to slowly but meticulously bring my mouth back to a sound place, but as you know, I am taking one step forward and a few back as teeth chip and crack because they are not correctly supported because there are missing parts. ANYWAYS, I am now being told I will have a complicated multi phase journey to restore my teeth and have been told my appearance will also change, which brings me to why I am applauding you at the moment.
I am really sad that people are actually asking you to take the teeth out, I GET it that we are all naturally curious, but ASKING? I admire your self respect. I think you handled this with poise and grace and I am really excited to have found you because until now, I felt really isolated with this situation. People look at me strangely when I tell them about my teeth and some ask what happened, ALSO a SHITTY question because you can just see that tiny flash of disgust as they imagine that we never took care of our teeth. I also had pain and a geographic tongue (not sure if you have that, but the things you describe sound similar to what I have experienced, it is in the psoriasis family and makes the tongue look blotchy and cut up and YES Ketchup can burn me too), at any rate, brushing and flossing is just really painful and growing up we didn't have as many gentle products as we do now to help the process, I found that I had auto immune issues that contributed and as I have found, stress plays a HUGE role in saliva production and mouth health. Something tells me, that the radiant, glowing woman that you are today has seen her fair share of stress and sadness. I am so uplifted by your story and you are just a STUNNING person from the inside out! THANK YOU, for your courage, for your bravery in doing this. I wanted to start a go fund me page but when I saw it required social media exposure, I just shrank and found a different way to make it happen for the very fact that I had NO courage to share. Today I find it easier to share, and this moment, I am encouraged to share the story as well because you paved the way. You helped me realize that, this is just another bump in the road called life and we have MUCH to be grateful for that we live in a time of innovation and that we have access when so many people simply DO NOT! I have been toying with the idea of starting some sort of foundation or fund for women like us who need dental care but cannot afford it. Let me know if you ever want to collaborate! THE VERY BEST THE WORLD HAS TO OFFER IS WHAT I WISH FOR YOU! Keep smiling!!!! -Maria

You are an inspiration to me, and I just want to let you know that. I have a hard time talking about my bad teeth. Even though I know everyone else can see it. It's something I can't bring myself to talk about. My teeth were crooked my entire life, and now I have many that are missing, which makes it worse. I hate taking photos, and I hate when people tell me to smile. I want to get them fixed and to for once in my life have a nice smile, and to finally feel like an attractive man for once. Thank you for making these videos.

I COMPLETELY understand what you mean...I have thought it through, and I know I will never be seen without my teeth, when I get them. Truthfully, it's gonna take a boatload of courage for me to look at myself. I keep wondering if this means I'm too vain, but I just care about my appearance. You look great, and I can't wait until I'm past all the horrors of the chair, and on the other side where you are. You look beautiful! Thank you for doing these videos!

@oceaneyess67 It took about 2 weeks for me to be *ok* with how they felt in my mouth and I guess gradually over time I forgot about them. I can't pinpoint a date, it just gets easier and easier. It's totally normal since they aren't your teeth and are in fact a big chunk of "stuff" in your mouth. But over time, you get used to them being in your mouth and become less aware of them, until they begin to feel normal.....

helped A LOT!!! My dentist just asked what I was most concerned about, and I think you pretty much NAILED it on the head! My fears have been about the post experience. I'm torturing myself wondering if they're going to fly across the table while dining; or being able to kiss my sweetheart; or his teenage daughter staring and asking a million questions about my new appearance. I have already VOWED to NEVER EVER remove them in front of others, and I think it's rude for people to think that you

I am with you on the not taking my teeth out. I am about to get dentures and am accepting the fact that I won't have teeth. I still won't be taking them out to show the world. Why pay good money for dentures if you have to go around flashing your gums. By the way your teeth are beautiful.

You are incredibly brave to make these videos! Your beautiful inside as well as on the outside. I started my journey earlier this year at 34. I had my top teeth removed in Feb. and had the temporary teeth put in. Last week I went and had my bottom teeth pulled and temporary bottom teeth put in the day before my 35th birthday. I had to split up my procedures due to health issues. Any way, I have never shown anyone what I look like without them and don't plan to! My husband and I have been married for 12 years and I haven't even shown him! I know he wouldn't care and I know he loves me regardless, but it's something about how I feel about myself. It's hard enough going through this and I think you should do whatever makes you comfortable! Thank you so much for your videos! They are helping me more than you could possibly know!!!!

I go for my extractions in a week and I'm so nervous. Your videos and several other brave women with denture videos are the number one thing pushing me thru to be able to do this! After my extractions I'm staying with my mother for a few days because she's the ONLY person I feel like I'll be ok with seeing me without teeth. I have three kids at home and a husband I've been with for 20 years. My husband feels hurt that I don't feel comfortable with him seeing me toothless because he says he loves me for me and not my teeth. While I appreciate that he said that probably more than he realizes and 100% believe him, it's just something I have to be able to accept myself before I can show anyone. I don't even want my kids to see! It's almost like being naked in front of people! There's no way I would be brave enough to get on here and talk about this like you have! You're helping people get thru something that ultimately makes them healthier AND boosts their confidence! I could never thank you enough!❤

I know this is an older video but thank you so much! My sentiments exactly on everything you said. Getting ready to take the plunge because as you said, my whole life has been one hellish nightmare of teeth! From a gap to almost a mouth full of crowns and root canals to recurrent infections, cellulitis in my face which led to a bone infection in my neck multiple removals and a partial now back to infections. I am done done done! Ready for a final E day and hopefully a somewhat permanent smile.

Thank you so much for doing these videos. I've had full dentures since I was 18 because my teeth just would not stop rotting and abscessing and it is nearly debilitating to not have my teeth in. Some people make jokes like "Oh, just say you took a hockey puck to the mouth, you'll be fine." And it isn't fine. I'm glad that you do these.

It just really hit me (while watching your videos) that I really need to get dentures. I am 23 years old and I am tired of the pain and suffering and not being able to sleep. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and it causes your teeth to crumble and fall out especially after having a child. I can't wait to get dentures.. I already had all my back teeth pulled but now my front ones are starting to break and fall apart and that's where I draw the line. It's time for dentures. I just fear it because I'm afraid I won't adjust to them. I can't stand looking in the mirror... I will never let anyone see me without my teeth, definately not my husband or my son. I won't take mine out and I don't blame you.

  • @MusicInMotion67

Don't worry about what anyone says, they look beautiful. I won't go without mine either after not having them for 20 + years other than in front of my granddaughter who's five and like you it was pretty funny except for when she went to a wedding or birthday party or some type of event like that on maternal side of the family and announced to everyone that her other grandma's teeth come out lol. Thanks little mama.
Anyway, I also happen to have naturally curly hair which has grown slow all my life and I've never had waist length hair because it grows so dang slow and although I keep it straight most of the time I also leave it curly at times and have accepted it just as you have, but on that note, try putting pure unrefined organic coconut oil in your hair. What normally would have taken three years just to get it to the length it's currently at once I started using coconut oil it was back to this length after only about six to eight months after I got it chopped off up to the bottom of my earlobes so it works great and helps keep it healthy also. Put about a tablespoon (just one out of your drawer, a heaping spoonful) or two in a small bowl or cup and allow that to sit in a sink full of hot water till it melts and is slightly warm and put that in. Leave in over night and wash out in the morning. I do this two to three times a week. You'll see a difference in how fast your hair grows.

I understand your situation. Men are a little different than women though when it comes to pride and self confidence. I'm about to get partials and I will not hold back on telling my family I had to have them done but I won't pull them out to show them either. Ok maybe after a dozen shots lol! If I were married it's just a fact of life. Your spouse accepts you as a person regardless. It's almost impossible to hide it from them for 40 years. This video was 5 years ago but I'm sure your views haven't changed if not a little bit. You know, I have no need to see you without your teeth because it's not who you are and your glow comes from the smile you have and enjoy. Your husband is one lucky man to have such a courageous woman by his side.

She can take her teeth out, and I agree, she's found this helpful for herself, and for those of us going through this.
Like you, I also don't let my spouse see me w/o. And d'uh, never thought of doing the denture bath daytime. How did that escape me. I also prefer nights together with my face intact.

I am just like you. I have a partial and not a full denture because I'm an worried in the process I'll have to go in public or work with no teeth and I'm unwilling to do that. The only people I've intentionally let see me without my partial are my dentist and her dental assistants. I did forget to where it to work one day and realized it and got up and pretty much ran out and went home to get it. I'm Healy for the people that are okay with others seeing them without theirs but I can't and won't do that.

@mygalmo I look HORRIBLE without teeth and I truly mean that. I do not let anyone see me without my teeth- only my kids, not even my husband LOL. But I would rather not look great only parts of the day than ALL the time, ya know? Rotten teeth is NOT better than no teeth, contrary to what some would think. Just the decay in my mouth really brought my appearance down dramatically. I looked worn out and always felt dirty!

No one has seen me without my dentures yet except myself. I don't like the way i look without them however i can't have them in all the time because they still hurt my gums. So i was told i could take them out at night yesterday. So i only took my bottoms out last night but my husband was already sleeping. I have no idea what I'm going to do later on. I don't want anyone to ever see me without them so i don't know if i will take them both out at the same time or not. Thank you for your videos and all of information.

I look at what you wrote about nerdgirlsm and cherrylips333 and just as they inspired you to share your feelings and experiences on video, there is a person who has not only inspired me but encouraged me to over come my feelings of shame and guilt she goes by the nickname of kalinjax. I have had my full upper and lower dentures for a year and a half now my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I will be starting my own video's soon, It is my hope that together we can educate other's =^_^=

Mine got very uncomfortable in the first two weeks. I had a lot of sore spots and a bone spur that made wearing them excruciating.....but, being young and stupid I suffered through it and wore them anyways. When I got my first reline I felt like a million bucks! You may want to get them relined. After the swelling of extractions goes down the dentures won't fit right and they'll shift and feel uncomfortable. A reline should correct that. Go back and ask them to make it right!

3 years ago I was hospitalized for sepsis from rotten teeth in back lower right. I was in the hospital for 5 days with drains running out of my neck. I was told that if I would have waited another 24 hours the conversation with my family would have been a much different one and they probably would have been planning a funeral instead of a home coming. I have sever osteoporosis and was on a drug for 15 yrs that I thought was saving my bone and it was later revealed to cause sever bone loss of the jaw. I was the first person to have teeth removed in my hospitals 90 year history. After being released I went to 7-8 Dentists that would not touch me because of the medication use history.
Fast forward 3 years I had just given up. I was sitting at my 12 yr old grandsons first swimming meet and I was cheering him on and all the sudden one of my remaining front teeth (root and all) fell out of my mouth, from under my COVID mask(BTW I was relieved for the mask mandate cuz I could avoid the stares at my teeth) the tooth landed on the person infant of me and then on the bench right next to him. To say I was embarrassed is an understatement! I immediately rushed out and sat in the car crying! At that point I was done!! The oral surgeon that did my surgery had moved out of the location but his partner still was in practice much closer to me. I called his office in his new location(out of state) he remembered me. He made a deal with his old partner and came from 3 states away and performed my surgery. It was extremely painful and do to the the extensive worse.
8 weeks ago I had to have major oral surgery. Bone grafting just to give me a ridge for dentures to sit on. I also had to have palatial and mandibular tori removal. Because of extensive work I was not a candidate for immediate dentures and then with other complications I will not have dentures until June 2023!! I am totally embarrassed to be seen by anyone esp husband of 39 years. After all he married a former Beauty Pageant Queen…Now he is looking at an old granny! I will not leave my home without a COVID mask!!!
It’s kinda like my wig 😂 I 110% understand you refusing to not take them out!!!!!! Lengthy comment I know! I do have a question…WHAT do you do at night? That’s my hardest time and all I think about! I don’t want him to wake up, roll over and look at Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies 😂 Do you wear your teeth at night?
I know this is an old video and you may not see my story or question. I want you to know I binge watch all of your video’s and you helped this old (60) Granny so much!!

@BearsDarkAngel First off, THANK YOU for your service in Iraq. I sincerely mean that. My brother is over in Bahrain right now, I come from a family with a long history of military service so I respect your efforts. How long have you had your dentures? I eat much better with mine and I haven't even had a reline in like 5 months. Do you think they were made properly? Have you ever been able to properly function with them? I'd go back and tell them I want a do-over....

I actually don't mind taking my dentures out but I'm 74 and retired and not spending much time on image. I actually feel better with them in so a lot of times I go some where and forgot to put them in and I kind of see it like decoration. I also can't talk as well with them out so.....

Please never let someone make you feel ashamed where there is no shame , my teeth were destroyed due to a IED explosion in Iraq. The best thing I did was ask my dentist straight out "Enough they are all going to eventually brake" the bridges would be a waste just pull them give me dentures. Granted right now its hard to wear them they hurt, they need adjustment which is no longer covered, as long as I don't eat or talk they still work great :) best choice I ever made DO IT NOW and smile

@jpdlable Yes pretty much all dentists recommend taking them out to soak at night but I enjoy my nights with my hubby too much to go toothless LOL so I just soak them at different periods through out the day when he is at work- typically when I am bathing and shaving my legs, getting ready like doing my hair and makeup or like after I eat or something. I personally don't see a problem in doing it that way but always do what you feel comfortable doing!

  • @kalinjax

Michael- totally. Because it is shocking. I love watching things about extreme makeovers and all but that involves willing participants. Its sooooo rude and inappropriate to pressure someone into doing something they have stated they.are not comfortable with.

    • @kalinjax
      @kalinjax  7 лет назад +7

kin_dame I think at a personal choice. My opinion has sort of changed over the years. I think I would want to get it out of the way as soon as possible so as to not waste my time if the person can't handle it. I wouldn't be all serious about it and make a big deal. I'd probably wait until we are sharing life stories and backgrounds and casually bring it up in a joking manner. Be confident about it. If you act like something is wrong with you they might believe it. Nothing is wrong with you. Just remember, you don't want to be with anyone who can't accept your dentures so if they can't deal with it, keep it moving. Someone will.

I just had my upper denture done abt three weeks ago and im.still getting used to.seeing myself without em. very scary lol but Ty for this video. I got.u.girl lol. I have watched a few of ur.videos and I plan on watching more. you give me.hope. cuz. right now I'm struggling with eating it's very hard as I guess everything is still shrinking cuz it's only been 3 weeks and I just know there's hope out there so thank you for helping me I'm also a mother of four children and my teeth kind of just rotted out really bad after my 4th son so I knew it was time to do something about it so this is my journey now and I like the way my dentures look on top, perfect!!! it's just the palate and eating that really bugs me. I'm still getting them adjusted. I hate not tasting food because of that pallet on the top. I heard it goes back to normal. do you feel that it does too?!? like how long till you started tasting food the same way again with the palate on the roof of your mouth?
