    Dentures have gotten so good now. Even the cheaper versions. You cannot tell if someone has dentures or real teeth anymore. So many people that you see with ‘perfect teeth’ for all you know they aren’t real at all.
    I would NEVER be able to tell you have dentures. I would just think you have great teeth.

    I got my first partial when I was seventeen. Had never been to a dentist in my life, but I was so excited. I got four front teeth out, and a partial denture the same day. I don’t remember why pain at al, but from the moment the denture was placed in my mouth I was so happy. I could not stop smiling. That was the best, happiest day in my life to that point😁

    Literally crying right now!! I always took good care of my teeth and my dentist was always commenting on my smile. A few things out of my control happened and my teeth became my worse nightmare. I don’t even want to smile! It’s mortifying! I can’t afford implants, I’m so traumatized by the thought of my teeth being pulled and having dentures. Your video is giving me SO much hope! Your teeth are beautiful and I just want to eat food and smile again without feeling ashamed! I’ve had three infections where my whole face blows up. Heaven help me! Anyway, thank you SO much for this! I’m looking forward to smiling! I’m scared but it will be worth it!!!

      In the same boat as you. My teeth started messing up (majorly) in my teens. Got them all fixed at 17. By about 26 or 27, pretty much didn't have teeth. Have had all of about 3 1/2 teeth in my mouth for 10+ yrs now...
      I go in for extractions and immediates in about 25 hrs. Quite nervous (the shots, the pulling, the swelling, being able to talk, being able to eat... not so much the pain).

      People who cant "afford" it because their country offers virtually no help, I pray for you. I live in the Netherlands where kids are fully insured, adults have the option of (extra) insurance, and if not, dentists will workup a payment plan, so u get care you need and are not left suffering... but its cheaper, too. 2 dentures cost under €500!!

  • @ABadHairDay

    good teeth, bad teeth, great teeth or lack of teeth does not define a person whatsoever, unfortunately some people are ignorant and assume if you wear dentures, have a few "bad" teeth etc that you don't take care of yourself. obviously that is not always the case. you are more beautiful than most people I have seen with perfect teeth! Also, the average person would never be able to tell you have them. God bless and you and your smile are beautiful xo

Don't worry about who should have helped, stop worrying about the clothing on the bed, not your business.Watch the video if you are interested in the journey. BTW it is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that their children have the dental care they need as children. All teeth are not created equally. Brushing alone is not enough.For you people that don't think the parent is responsible for their children's teeth while under age, are you taking your children in for dental care? • @kalinjax
    @kalinjax  11 лет назад +2

    Some dentists do temporary dentures while some prefer you wait. When you leave with temporaries, you typically end up having to get more relines and then have to pay to get them replaced between 6 months and a year. So it costs more and the fit isn't as good, but you never go without teeth. Getting them the way you did costs less, ensures a better fit, but you have to go without teeth.

I'm so so so anxious. August second cannot come fast enough. Wish us luck. Thanks again for this video ...this is what I needed to watch.. my father in law literally just got his dentures days ago and I asked him about start to finish, pain scale, what they do at each visit . But I still need to hear it from others like you. He's so happy with his dentures and they look so good and real. He hasn't had teeth at all for over ten years. So he's getting used to them, but we were waiting to see how his turned out before we made our appts with his dentist.

I turn 40 in a few days time and I am lucky that my parents have insisted that I get my teeth fixed and they will pay for it all, simply because when I was young they didn't have the money to get braces etc and they feel bad about it. I am grateful but also feel funny because I am an adult now and it's something I should be responsible for, not my parents but I do also understand their guilt as parents (I'm a parent of 4 myself). After thinking I would have implants and seeing the xrays, the dentists said implants were next to impossible for me.

I was really nervous about being awake for this but once the dentist had me all numbed up and I also had laughing gas, which helps a lot...it won't of mattered if they used a jack hammer to remove the teeth. Take responsibility of your own and your parents taking out a loan for your dentures. Now they are parents to be very proud of. I hope you take GOOD care of your parents when they are old and need your help. Like they did with lots of repayments on the loan on your lovely looking dentures.

    Actually, a tooth that is rotted all the way down to the gums can often be fixed. You may not want to fix 28 such teeth, but for a single tooth, as long as it has a root or roots that are solidly rooted in bone, you can have the root canals filled, and then various kinds of techniques can be use to attach an artificial crown to the root or roots. This is generally regarded as better than an implant because of the cushioning effect of the peridontal ligaments that surround each root. Also, implants don't have any ability to change position in response to chewing forces and to changes in position, or wear, on adjacent teeth and opposing teeth.

    Thanks, great video. I had all my molars out two weeks ago and the rest are getting pulled in two days when my dentures are ready. I am not looking forward to it, so your talk has chilled me out a bit. I was planning to get implants when my gums have settled down but if the dentures are as good as yours (yours look really nice btw) I might not even bother.
    Like you my parents didn't stand over me as a child making sure I brushed properly, and they didn't stop me eating candy and washing it down with soda either, but I'm not really blaming them, plus I'm British and I'm sure you know our reputation for taking care of our teeth. haha. Too late to do anything about that now.
    I'm shocked at the amount of money you had to pay though! Luckily for me, where I live a large percentage of the cost of dentures is covered by obligatory national health care insurance, or there is no way I could have afforded it.

    Hi Kalinjax I live in Australia and we have a Medicare system that every citizen pays a small amount into to cover medical costs. I had an appointment with the government dentists to have all my upper teeth removed and a set of dentures made. The first appointment only cost 47.00 Australian dollars. The second visit to have all my upper teeth removed still only cost me 47.00 Australian dollars. I waited for 3 months for my gums to shrink and then I had my denture made. The denture plus 2 more visits to adjust the denture only cost me 280.00 Australian dollars.

      That’s true, that’s what they do in some other countries; They pay an allotted amount of money and everyone has the same costs for dental care and medical care costs also, I know that I have a friend in Sweden and they also have Medical and Dental care for everyone ( the same costs for everyone and they pay a percentage of their paychecks or something so that this is possible for their country and I think it’s an amazing idea.) No two countries are exactly the same & just because the person was able to get teeth removed and for that cost, that’s amazing for them, I believe it bc I know that in Sweden they have a similar setup for medical care and Dental care. It’s really too bad that there’s nothing like that here in the United States bc My husband has paid for Dental insurance for 11 years and we have a big family so it helped a little but nothing compared to what the cost was for what wasn’t covered and he lost his job in July 2018 and we have 9 children between the two of us that we have had to put through braces, and dental work through the years and still have 3 children 10,8,& 6 years old... and listening to this woman’s story on another video last night , literally I could have told that story verbatim and it was exactly the same thing that happened to me, I had no idea that pregnancy was destroying my teeth ( the enamel was already so broken and my mouth was so sensitive and it just happened exactly the way hers did.) I am happy that this young woman was able to get her teeth fixed and get her smile and confidence back and that she’s using her own story to help others to educate them and show them how to get through this situation the way that she has done and she has been an amazing help to me with so much information and the strangest thing is that we both are from Florida. Jacksonville, Florida is exactly where I am going to the dentist and I am starting my journey and like Kalin, I’m scared to death but her videos have helped me with the anxiety and a lot of questions that I had , I’m so happy for her that she ended up winning a smile makeover contest and then she was offered What she had been dreaming of getting ,which I am right there with her on that too, It is amazing that she was able to get the 20k smile makeover and then have a dentist reach out to her and offer her the 4 n 1 implants, that is truly the best gift that she could have ever asked for, I am literally going through the exact experience and my mouth is in such bad shape that I was hopeless and she is taking time out of her life and sharing her story and paying it forward and I appreciate that and I love her videos they are insightful and they full of information. I’m truly happy that you received the beautiful smile that you dreamed of @Kalinjax 🥰

      @@gregbarrett5139 It is not BS Greg that is all I payed. I have payed into MediCare which is our Government medical insurance all my working life and I get to see doctors for free and I only had to pay a small amount to have my teeth extracted and to have my new denture made. Every body from the moment that they start working just pays a levy into MediCare which is deducted from there weekly pay and they are covered for most medical expenses. I have to have a 3 joint ankle fusion soon but I am not worried. My operation and my stay in hospital will be payed for by MediCare in full. I will receive no bills. I am 66 years old now and am on the old age pension so I do not have to pay any levies to MediCare any more. When you go on the old age pension there is no costs for most things medical. We have a wonderful system that was bought in by our Labor Government many years ago. I just have to go to the Government Dental Service and the Public Hospitals to get these things done. No matter what a prescription costs all I have ever had to pay was $6.50 so Greg I do not know where you live but if you can not get the same deal as we get here in Australia then perhaps it is time that you moved down under. The sun shines most of the time and we have great beaches and friendly people.

    They could have been made wrong, I'm not counting that out.... but i've not talked to very many people that didn't experience pain and difficulty eating in the beginning. Sore spots are very common, it's actually uncommon to *not* get them. For the first two weeks, it was a challenge. This is a totally new thing for you and it will take some getting used to. Your gums will continue to shrink, the dentures will become loose and you will get a reline.

    I have great dental insurance but my portion of extractions thru permanent (upper only) is $4100! My dentist shaved off about $400 from the cost of extractions. The treatment plan has 2 implants(snaps) included. I have been ok'd by Care Credit and have 6 months to pay it off for 0% interest. I'm just praying that my other medical issues will be figured out without much more medical tests, etc. I took in a roommate to lessen the financial strain. I've had my impression done and am waiting for my E-day to be set. I'm very thankful for all the information I have gotten from RUclips. I have all the supplies I may need...or not. I am TYJ...trusting my journey, after a lot of crying. I am putting my teethe in the hands of my new dentist/oral surgeon...just waiting for the call to really get started on this long journey.

    I think that is great that her parents helped her out with her dental problems. I myself had to ask my elder parents to help me out with a dental and jaw billd that my insurance wouldn't cover because they don't cover TMJ problems. My bill came to over 100K for teeth and jaw treatment. I'm blessed that my parents were able to help me because not everyone has that kind of money laying around but they were there for me and I do have to pay them back, this is not a free ride, by no means.

I currently have 6 bottom teeth that need to be pulled out before I get fitted for the bottom. I have a blood disorder where my blood dont clot so I cant get all my teeth pulled out the same day because I could bleed to death! But, I'm very nervous and have high anxiety about going through the denture process again. I really dont want to go without any bottom teeth so I need to discuss this with my dentist. Anyway, thank you for all your help this video answered a lot of my questions. It's been 7 years since I got my top set of dentures so I dont really remember the process.

    I wish my dentures looked so amazingly natural, I like you wasn't taught to look after my teeth as a youngster in fact I can't really remember ever being shown how to brush my teeth ever, can't remember clearly having a toothbrush till I was able to buy my own as soon as I got a part time job so like you as I got older my teeth deteriorated and lack of good dental meant I ended up having to wear full dentures, my biggest problem is that obviously I am older and as you get older your gums shrink and I struggle keeping the bottom ones in place, also mine just are really heavy and thick, in the US are the plates thinner, your really suit you and I realise that teeth or no teeth it's your personality that's important but looking good helps.

    It definitely makes all the difference to have an amazing dental office/dentist. I told them the same thing. I actually also told them I'd have to let my teeth fall out on their own. Mine actually gave me a name of an insurance to call. I switched insurance because they'll cover 💯% extractions and 💯% dentures. An oral surgeon wanted $1,400 for only four extractions. That didn't include pain meds before, during or after the extractions.

    Hey Kathy, well, the dentist decided to keep my teeth and repair them. He restored about 10 of them, pulled 4 and did a root canal on 5 of them! It sucked, but I have my teeth, they look new, and he is making a partial denture for the 4 he pulled. It was slightly more expensive than the denture quote..not a lot, and he thought it would be better for me considering my age and the condition of remaining teeth. I think dentures would have been easier! haha but at least the hard part is over.

    Obviously, Kalin received her dentures at a very young age. Suggestion : I'm in the profession - It is in your best interests to hang onto as many natural teeth as you possibly can. You see, that where the teeth have been extracted, over time, the bone support under the appliance will wear away (erode) due to the wear and tear created by the denture. The sooner you receive an upper or lower appliance or both, the more bone erosion as you age. More bone erosion, in return, creates looseness. A new costly denture will pick up the void created. Or if you you have no choice due to cost, loading up with polygrip/fixodent adhesive would become a 2nd option. ( I just sat yuck to the 2nd option ) Even if you can save a couple stubs, then save them and go for an "over denture". These stubs, if salvageable, can act as anchors in helping stabilizing the denture that goes over it and help in saving some of the bone. But if you go this route, you should find a dentist that is capable and perhaps specializes in dentistry of this nature. My daughter is a dentist/orthodontist. She seconds this advice. If you are at a crossroad, I hope this helps in your decision making.

      ValentineDayTwin ValentineDayTwin can you explain what an overdenture ? First let me explain my situation. I have MS . And for the better part of six years I have been on high doses of prednisone and other immunosuppressants . I have been off of them for a year now with no complications (yay go me! ) but now my teeth are terrible . There is periodontal disease , and infection. (I didn't go to the dentist for about three years - as I was going through a divorce and could not afford that- I chose dental for my children over myself ) I work for a university that has a teaching dental clinic as a "volunteer " for the students . The professor who is an actual dentist recommended dentures because I have MS , and the medications necessary to treat MS , put me at a high risk of infection. He said to try to save my natural teeth, would be very painful and very costly, and while dentures certainly aren't fun, he stated that this may be best for my health and also more cost effective . I was wondering if you could offer your opinion on this , and whether or not it is common for dentists to recommend full dentures to people who have autoimmune diseases and frequently take immunosuppressants ? Or was he full of it ?

    • @ashleyhodgins2229
      @ashleyhodgins2229 7 лет назад

      ValentineDayTwin he also stated the immunosuppressants combined with lack of preventative care (though I rush my teeth , floss and use mouthwash twice per day ) were the cause . He explained that immunosuppressant slowed my immune system to the point of not being able to fight off bad bacteria in my mouth like my body would under normal conditions . This was just a week ago, so I have not yet had a chance to consult my neuro.

      +Girlatticus 12170123 hello girlatticus this is valentine day twin. In response to your question as to what is an overdenture - that is where the remaining natural teeth in one's mouth is used as the anchoring supports for a denture . it could be on upper or lower. the main purpose of it predominantly used to stabilize lower dentures ( as they have a tendency to be loose due to tongue muscle resistance and that is why people use adhesive to stabilize it ). some things have to be taken into consideration though - bone support around the root has to be strong and enough of the tooth structure has to be intact - preferrably above gum level and then there should be at least 2 good tooth structures, preferrably one on each side of the arch. An attachment is then incorporated over the tooth structure and another snap in attachment incorporated into the denture. this whole assembly acts as stabilizing fixtures. the two tooth structures are nubs with the other teeth on arch missing. of course there could be additional nubs also for additional support areas. but then the more support areas the more the appliance is going to cost. hopefully I explained it to your liking and you have a better vision of what it is all about. good luck if you decide to go this route

    I have started the process on my bottom row of teeth . In March my dentist took one bottom tooth out . An put no replacement tooth in for me I'm at the point were I have to go back to get 2nd impression. The first I had done 2 weeks after I got the firts tooth pulled on the bottom I will have a bridge done on the bottom I have 2 back side teeth that we can save. So on April 3 I'm going in to have the 2nd impression done then I get to make my appointment to have 5 teeth pulled and get my bridge. So what I did was I got a kit off if Amazon and made a tooth the only thing is it's tough to drink and you cant eat with it in so I'm gonna pick up a small tube of pladent and use a tiny little bead on the fake tooth so I can eat when I'm with the grandkids .

    I enjoy your videos and they have been helpful to me but honestly when you said that your parents "owed it to you" to pay for your dentures because they didn't take care of your teeth as a child, or make you take care of your teeth properly (a.k.a. continue brushing after your gums started bleeding, regular check-ups, etc.) I kind of got a little annoyed with you.
    I get it - you're angry or upset. My mom never made sure I brushed my teeth and I never saw the inside of a dentist's office the entire time I was growing up but I would never think she "owes me" - especially if they aren't doing well financially now when I am an adult. I would never expect my parents to take out a second mortgage on their home or even a loan of any kind for $20,000 when I have a perfectly good set of dentures in my mouth that my grandmother paid the majority of! Implants are an option, a luxury, not a necessity. I would say that teeth...like dentures, is a necessity but not implants and I sure as hell wouldn't expect my parents to pay for them or risk losing their home because I wanted them.
    I realize that you won a contest and got them free of charge and then upgraded them with a new set...that is a once in a lifetime opportunity for sure! I just wouldn't want your viewers to think that their parents owe them their smile. I mean parents do the absolute best they can and sometimes their best just isn't that great - are we going to go around beating them over the head for their failures all their lives??

    • @catherinenelson4162
      @catherinenelson4162 5 лет назад +3

      Oh, boy! You say that parents do their absolute best.
      In actuality, SOME parents do their best. Some couldn't care less.
      Look up child abuse. It's not all about beating your kids. Child abuse takes different forms. Did you know NEGLECT is a form of child abuse?
      There are parents who work, spend the majority of their money on things they want - Not need. Or on bad habits, etc.
      Someone close to me was forced to sleep in a crib in a fetal position until the age of 7 1/2, because money was being spent on cigarettes, new clothes for the mom, anything the oldest daughter wanted, ski trips for the oldest son, etc.
      The neglect also culminated in lack of medical care, and when a doctor spotted this problem, he called the mother out on it. The result? That child was never again allowed medical care.
      Both parents worked full time.
      The lesson here? Don't assume anything about this young mom's situation with her parents. She may, or may not be within her rights. It's likely she is within her rights, because kids that grow up with proper dental care shouldn't need dentures in their 20s or early 30s.

      I had proper dental care and still needed dentures in my 20s. 🤷‍♀️

      Obviously you have no idea of what it's like to HAVE to eat with no teeth.

      Dentures didn't work for me...had gum line issues. Only option is implant supported dentures.
