Had full extractions and immediate top denture yesterday. 41 years and wish I would have done this years ago! The pain isn’t as a bad as a toothache. I’ve taken them out to rinse and haven’t stopped eating (soft food). I was terrified. Had twighlight sedation. I’m a pessimistic rather than optimistic person. Maybe I’m still high but this is the best thing I’ve done for myself ever! I’ve smiled more today than I have in my whole life.

It’s been 4 days and I am miserable!!! My dentist didn’t do many of the things you said they should. He did not prepare me for what I was in for!! Should my gums still be bleeding? The pain is terrible, luckily I take pain meds for my neck. The dentist was doing multiple things while he was working on me! He took calls, did a filling on someone else. Was vague with after care, I was so overwhelmed I couldn’t remember everything!!! I only got the top dentures but he pulled the back bottom teeth because he feels I need implants in the lower denture and this would give it time to heal. They have no 24 phone line, so you have to wait until the next day or Monday!! I have no support, I am alone. 61 years young, I have never been through such a nightmare!!! Can you suggest anything? I have had a very bad experience with everyone in this office, including the Dr. I don’t want to go back but I know I have to. But I am not getting my bottom teeth done there!!! They have lied to me, said one thing and done another. I am so sad and mad!!!!! I wish I had a friend like YOU!!!!!
Thank you for this important information. God bless you 🙏❤️🙏

@@marilynbelcher8171 Im having the same experience as you. Did you go to Dental Care in Acworth? Worst place ever! My uppers are so far out of whack. If I take them out and place on the table you can clearly see how off center, off balance, just plain off they are. The front part was way higher on the left side to the point where they werent even seated all the way up. Ive already taken my Dremel to them. I cant believe they actually charged me for these. Horrible! But my smile is better and when I take them out my mouth is pain free after many many years. I guess thats something.

@@marilynbelcher8171How are you faring now? I'm about two weeks since I got mine. Still quite hard to eat as the fit is getting more loose since the swelling has gone down, and the top plate shifts around as I chew. It gets better with adhesive. Due to go in for a check up in a couple days so hopefully they can adjust the fit to be tighter. I bled a LOT the first day. I was biting down on gauze and it would be soaked through in minutes.

I am an 83 yr old veteran (not disabled -- VA not involved). I decided to go to the School of Dentistry (Univ of Alabama because that's where I live). I am in love with my dentist and with the whole program! The cost has been surprisingly manageable and I appreciate knowing that every step of the way, my situation is being guided and monitored by a faculty dental professor.
I had 18 extractions in a single afternoon with minimal pain followed by weeks of healing. Some people get immediate dentures, but the program we agreed on was that I would heal and then be fitted for both upper and lower dentures. I am about two weeks from having teeth again -- and being able to smile!
Your state medical college surely has a School of Dentistry, and perhaps you would benefit from a consultation. My dentist here is a fourth year dental student, and I could not be more pleased. Her faculty advisor sees me at every visit and reviews all her work. Plus, a variety of other students, residents, and adjunct faculty help and look in and advise frequently.
I'm not trying to put regular dentists out of work, but you might consider the SoD path.

I’ve just completed week number one of total extractions with temporary dentures. I feel so depressed right now! 😭😭😭😭😭
I went to the dentist yesterday to have my dentures adjusted because with the healing of my gums, the sore spots, and the areas that the dentures cut my gum, I cried in the dental chair.
I’m supposed to go out tonight but I don’t know if I should. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️
I don’t want to be in pain or looking like I’m hurting all night.
These videos help me to understand that I’m not the only one going thru the same stages in this dental journey.

I had the remainder of my teeth (18) pulled on Nov. 1, 2022 and am now contending with immediate dentures. I've had a long history of dental issues and many were related to inept dentists/periodontists and parents who were indifferent to some of my more serious dental issues. That having been said (yes, I will have some cheese with that whine), I'm very grateful that my husband and I could afford to pay for a full set of dentures. I'm less than one week into this process and am having my regrets (normal), discomfort and some times pain (also normal), but I'm comforted by "Kalinjax's" videos and the feedback from so many others who are in the same dental boat. Thank you for sharing your journey and thank you to all who've been so open and direct with their own feedback. 🙂

I understand that it could be redundant for you, but you are the full package of knowledge. The entire process and the different sets of dentures and processes you had to go through. Even if you have to repeat and post about what you did 10-11 years ago, your feelings and views may be different now. I am different now. Even that helps me and I am sure others. There are people out there with so many negative comments and sadness in their soul but never that affect you! You are on the journey that God intended you to be on, a huge reason for being here. Yes I am a man that has cried several times over this past week. I pray to God this is not going to be my final look. My denture dentist keeps assuring me this will not be the end result. I do have a problem with being patient. LoL I am not even sure if you take time to read these comments but here from Tulsa Oklahoma.. THANK YOU!

I am so excited to start my denture journey, at the moment only two people know that I am doing this but your videos have helped me hugely to prepare mentally! you are awesome thank you!
One thing that I always think of when i experience something physically & emotionally challenging and i need to work myself into pushing through is nursing the worst hangover I've ever experienced. Take it one step at a time. We Don't rush into trying to fix ourselves in 1 hour, you wake up, maybe stay in bed a little while, take a shower, maybe some pain killers, drink water, eat something even when you feel nauseous, go for a short walk and sleep again. Its one little baby step at a time, despite feeling the horrible anxiety and a near death feeling, this feeling (mentally and physically) passes and by the end of the day you are finally recovered, and some effects might last a couple of days but you get through it. I always think "I've had a worse hangover than this!!" and it works wonders.

I'm almost three weeks into my full dentures. I have to admit having had doubts, especially the first week, even the second. At first I wondered if I was ever going to be able to eat right again. I'm still learning, haven't tried many difficult foods yet, but after two adjustments I'm able to start eating better, and expand my horizons.
speech was likewise difficult. reading aloud to myself helped immensely. OUT LOUD! Pretend your recording an audio book. annunciate, with expression. Starting with something familiar, then switch to something completely foreign, perhaps technical, so that you have to tackle words unfamiliar to you. Really helps you focus. 2 days in I was terrified I would never talk right again. 4 days in I was at 90%+. Now, a few words might trip me up when talking fast, but no problems.
I just found your videos. Thank You!! I actually had not been prepared for the drawbacks, or the learning curve with my dentures. I didn't actually regret the choice, as I was at a point where something had to be done, but it was very overwhelming. Your videos relating your experiences, and your advice , have helped immensely. Thank You again.

The comment you made about having the conversation about pain management is hugely important! I was not informed about pain management or pain medicine prior to my extractions. It was only discussed moments before my teeth were pulled by my oral surgeon. She told me that I should’ve consulted my primary doctor before the extractions for pain management. I was awake for the whole procedure, general anesthesia was not offered to me. Se sent me on my way after pulling all my teeth, telling me to just take Tylenol. My follow up the next day was with my dentist and he was shocked that she did not prescribe pain medication. I was clearly in severe pain and hadn’t slept. He made sure I did not leave without a prescription for meds.
I wish I had found your videos sooner! I had my extractions on Thursday May 12, and immediate dentures. Thank you for the super helpful information!

I just got all 30 teeth pulled out under anteisa 4/13/2023 at a cost of $9,280.00 as I'm retired and my medical insurance does not cover dental. My surgen was good, but I still was not walking straight when I left their office, so make sure you have a good person to drive you home. I blead heavy (thick heavy black blood and some dark red) for two days straight, finally gauze wrapped in tea bags help stop it. It is now 4/16/2023 and I sill have a resadue of light red blood, but is to be expected. My lips feel twice their size, and the inside of my mouth feels like I ate a porkypine, even my throat is a bit sore. I'm about 6 weeks until I even begin to go to the dentist that meassures you and finally supplies dentures. This is no easy deal to do for first few days, but like the host here, my teeth were so bad, no choice but to have them all out. Even my caps were falling off as the teeth under them rotted, and the rest of my teeth were full of holes from years of repair as I'm 69 years old. However, I was down to chewing painfully on one side of my mouth, so not having teeth at all I think already is an improvement. I go back to the surgen in two weeks from now for post surgery mouth check up as quite a few of my gum sockets had self disolving stiches. A day before my dental surgery, i went to the store and loaded up on box pudding, jellow, instant mashed potatoes, oat meal, milk, orange juice, and those important ready made pudding and apple sauce cups. This part is really important as you are not going to feel like going out and shopping for a few days or feel like cooking. I'll try to keep you posted as time goes by. BTW, the ice did little for me, however the surgen dentist will tell you probably 1/2 hour of ice, 1/2 hour of warm compress. BTW, please forgive my spelling errors, I wrote this fairly fast. Thanks host for your imput too, very good to know how dentures will feel and not to be alarmed. Also, do not fall asleep with gauze in your mouth as it does not digest. If you are at rest, keep head elevated such as in a longe chair, and take the gauze out, but the latter is my opinion.

My fiance is a primary care physician and has to do this. He ignored his dental health and he the victim of some poorly done dentistry. He just can't deal with the fact that they all have to go. It's driving me crazy because when we started dating I told him what was going to happen. He went to a dentist that made him a lower partial. I told him that he would never be able to wear it. He wasn't. I told him if the dentist didn't warn him, he was a crook. The dentist retired soon after.
I had my front teeth extracted, didn't hesitate. I looked like Cindy Lou Who for 5 days, then my lower face was yellow for at least a week. I had sutures all over my palate, parts are permanently numb from the tissue grafts that were taken from there. Everything I ate for a year had to be cut with a knife because I couldn't bite with my prosthetic. The day of that surgery , extractions, bone grafts and tissue. Three hours of surgery (mind you, palatal injections hurt like hell) I wore a white turtleneck and it was pink from my blood watered down with the irrigation. Well in the end, l have a beautiful hybrid bridge, I now can bite into anything hard that I want, apples, corn on the cob, no problem. I have 4 implants that I KNOW must be maintained. They were a big investment in money, pain and time but worth it. It started with a bad root canal, and lead to this disaster, but you have to face that a journey starts with one step. This isn't a cake walk but when you're done it's so worth the pain. Don't think that you can find an easier way, face the facts that this isn't a cake walk. Great things aren't always easy.

21 teeth extracted without any sedation (didn’t work but cost $200)
I have 2 black eyes and entire left side is black blue yellow and green on day 3!! Blood and water was drenched on my friend holding my hand
She cut many out so I had a ton of stitches. They alllll fell out on day 2! Loose on day 1 that night after surgery!! Dentist leaned on my right ribs so freaking hard for leverage that I have a stress fracture in my 9th rib!! Absolutely NO narcotic meds were offered… I have been absolutely devastated and miserable!!!!
If it wasn’t for this channel I would have been in emerge room yesterday when stitches fell out with every tongue movement and caused me to bleed like crazy for hours. I can’t breathe through my nose bc it’s swollen shut.
My sinuses are full of blood too
I can see the hematomas!! I so wish I could post a picture.
Just wanna say thank you so much for the education and support you’re providing….
Oh yeah? I’m also starving and stomach is screaming…
I can’t move my mouth…. I can’t live like this… I do not know what to do!! I’m stuck there bc they are the only ones around me that takes my Medicaid….
I could go on but my head is pounding
    Good luck everyone!!
I wish this on no one!!

I've been following this channel in preparation for dentures. A week ago, I had all my teeth (except for 3 lower teeth) extracted. I got an immediate set of dentures, & was told to keep them in for 24 hrs. I kept them in overnight, but took them out the next morning & called the dentist because they didn't seem to fit well. The uppers felt HUGE, & my bite felt "off". They told me to keep them out & come back in a week. I go tomorrow, & I'm afraid the impressions weren't done right; & basically just overwhelmed about the whole process. I'm crying as I write this, & know I need to stay positive, but it's a struggle. I don't want to leave the office only to feel hopeless. They gave me fixodent, but I don't even know how or where to apply it. I guess I'm sounding like a crybaby, but I didn't expect to have such ill-fitting teeth.

Hi!! I just had my procedure done yesterday and literally cried. Only had my uppers extracted with aveoplasty and bone grafting all over upper due to really bad infection and so much soft bone. I also had a sinus lift and 6 implants. First and foremost I had a overbite and gummy smile and now I don’t have a overbite and dentist made my denture to not show so much gum. Hope that makes sense so hard to explain. I explained to doctor I do not like my smile and he said if I can wait 4 more months and he will make new dentures with a slight over bite and longer teeth. Not sure if I’m just so swollen but My upper lip looks sunken in even with dentures. Can’t stop crying. I can not even look in the mirror without crying. Very frustrated.I’m 50 yrs old and now I look even older. 😭😭😭

I can’t believe what a nightmare this has been already!!!! My dentist showed my daughter and I what the finished dentures looked like, they were beautiful! There was nothing covering the palate. He said I would have to get periodic adjustments but I was fine with that. When I went in 4 days ago for my procedure I asked the girl to show me the temporary denture. It completely covered my palate!!!! I swear to God above those WERE NOT what he sayI was getting!!! But stupid me went through with it and I have been living in hell ever since! My daughter called that day and they said oh no, you can’t have those dentures unless you need implants!!!! I am still crying!!! I haven’t had a life in 2 years because of my teeth and now I feel it will never end!!!! My gums are still bleeding, I have had a migraine since I had it done. Looks like horse teeth, I still can’t go out in public because I can barely talk, I feel like I am gagging constantly 😭😭😭.
God bless you and I pray you start feeling better very soon!! I try to stay positive, but this situation makes it very difficult 💔. Take care of yourself!!! I am praying for you 💞💖💞🙏

The worst part for me is having stupid nightmares (hello dental anxiety) about the sounds and getting multiple shots in extremely painful places.. Also if they have to cut your tongue and/or lip tie, brace yourself for that to be a long healing period. For me that has been the most annoying/painful part since I started trying to eat and talk.

*I just got my dentures very recently because I have heart problems, and I already had 1 major open heart surgery and had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical on-x valve. That was over 15 years ago I'm now 41 and when I was 40 I was getting blood clots from the valve because the cardiologist refused to let me in the office because of covid and I ended up without my blood thinners for 6 months until I decided to move to Florida and when the old doctor suddenly just decided to give me my Coumadin I took it not thinking anything was going to happen but it did and I got several blood clots all throughout my body requiring emergency surgery and a fasciotomy to my left leg from no blood flow however I never had a problem with my teeth and they were still good for being 40 years old but the hospital said they needed to do another emergency surgery and crack my chest open again because the top of my heart where the aortic valve is has unfortunately expanded past 5cm and its called an aneurysm and the doctors wanted my teeth emergently removed because they said it contributes to more heart problems after a major surgery of that type so I let them remove them but then after they removed them they decided to change their mind and NOT do the surgery so they took my teeth for basically nothing and to say I'm pissed off and depressed over it is an understatement and I recently got the dentures but it feels like my mouth is FULL and I don't know if that'll go away or what and they're definitely causing some pain in some spots and I also really dislike that my saliva keeps getting underneath them causing me to have to try to suck it out from under them and then swallow constantly.. I really hope this will get better. Otherwise, I made a huge mistake letting them take my perfectly fine teeth, ughh..*

@@algodcan1algodcan196 dentures are made of acrylic and stuff like that sticks to them. When teeth are extracted often medication is put in the socket or your body forms a blood clot, it's like a scab that you form on your body. Sticky food can dislodge it, your body is trying to heal. A "dry socket" hurts like hell. You'll land up having to go back to the dentist (good luck if its midnight) to get medication put in the socket. Most dentists will give you a sheet of after surgery instructions. Read it carefully. I have to say that dentists joke about "Sugar Babies " candy for Halloween, crap like that will stick to a healthy tooth and cause decay like you wouldn't believe. Love your videos! Ok, I had all my upper & lower teeth pulled and immediate top & lower dentures shoved in right after! It took about 2-3 days for me to come out of shock and back to reality. I absolutely can't stand the immediate dentures but hey it's better than walking around with no teeth. I went back to work 4 days after and the girls in the office tried to say they looked great, I knew better. They altered my looks around the mouth, they are too big, killing my gums, I went back to the dentist a week later after I examined the difference of the immediate denture, one side was way bigger than the other, the girl that adjusted them for me had an attitude, like I was bothering her to do so, I showed her how the right side was much bigger than the left on my bottoms that was causing the unbearable pain she was resistant in cutting that portion off but I was firm, she did but didn't smooth it out, oh well, they felt better afterwards so I really didn't care about her attitude. I'm coming on my one month, go in next Tuesday for the soft liners, can't wait! Still eating soft foods which of course the bottoms get loose while eating, I actually have to put Fixodent on them at least 4 times a day to keep them in place. My uppers are OK although it pokes my upper lip out, I've lost 10 pounds so far and I'm sure I'll lose more before I get my implants. I'm praying hard that I won't have to wait 5 more months for the implants, I'm so over these immediate dentures, again, I absolutely hate them and can't wait to take them out at night. Come on implants, it can't happen sooner for me. Wishing all well.... this is a journey & surely not for the weak.

Tell your audience how the first couple of weeks in dentures is simply god damn painful especially with the lower denture. Lower ridge even hurt from being touched Abrasions that actually became little scabs that formed along the lingual sides and even swollen salivary glands were apparent because of these. It wasn't until after a couple of soft relines did they even approach being usable and these were my final dentures. But low and behold the gums finally do adjust and one day after about a month of practice and resting your gums from this torment, you'll find you can even chew peanuts with them in. (along with Fixodent) But NOONE tells you this hellish gauntlet awaits you . It's the painful truth...though eventually it does get better...much better in fact.

Thank you. I needed to hear this. I had what was left of my lower teeth out two weeks ago (8 teeth) and haven’t been able to wear my lower denture because of how sore my gums still are. Glad to know it gets better!

About 2 years ago I went to an emergency dental clinic for an extraction. I got x-rays and the dentist told me that I had bone and gum loss and some of my other teeth needed to come out, and I could have a denture made to go around the teeth I had left. That sounded reasonable. But I had to find a different dentist to do that work. The next dentist I saw told me all my teeth needed to come out, which was too overwhelming to handle. She didn't explain anything kept contradicting herself and totally freaked me out. Needless to say I was too scared to see a dentist again for another year. But a few months ago, I got on a plan and had to see one of the 'approved' dentists. I was told I needed 5 teeth removed and I could have a denture made if I wanted one, and if I did, one more tooth could be removed for cosmetic reasons. That all happened yesterday and today I'm wondering how I'm ever going to get used to this lump of plastic in my mouth. But my point here is, be careful with what some dentists tell you. If it doesn't seem right, get another opinion. I could have had all my teeth removed for no reason and now be struggling with two plates rather than one. I'm currently surviving day 1, looking forward to hearing what the next few weeks are going to be like.

I was devastated but didn't have issues wearing my teeth. Just had to get used to all the "extra" in my mouth. I still hate them years later but they don't hurt and I don't have to wear an adhesive.

Oh, I hate hearing that you still hate them. I was under the hopes that in time... I have not made the decision yet but don't want to feel like I have two hockey pucks in my mouth for the rest of my days. Sad.

I'm on week #3 of total mouth extractions and immediate dentures. I still can't eat with my bottom denture in., it breaks loose and floats around, causing pain. Not sure what to do here.

So I'm going to get everything extracted soon. Maybe a silly question but I'm always concerned about dental hygiene. Right now it's hard to keep my mouth feeling clean. When I just have gums and no teeth, is it easier to keep the mouth clean? Does bad breath go away or do you continue to brush, but just your gums and tongue, etc? Thanks. Your channel is giving me courage.

    • @kalinjax
      @kalinjax  Год назад +2

It is easier but still very important to be meticulous. Gums and tongue do have to be brushed and the dentures have to be cleaned properly to prevent bad breath and infections. I have a few cleaning videos on my channel for if/when you decide to get dentures. Best of luck to you!

@kalinjax So I haven't been able to eat anything crunchy or crispy for months. I'm getting immediate dentures next month. Whenever I ask whether I will be able to eat crunchy stuff again, I just get vague answers like, "It is different." Would you describe it please? Will I wake up in massive pain and how long until I can talk or eat? Thanks so much for your help.
I got new insurance with humana and went to their network dentist for the first time. First visit they recommended total extractions and immediate dentures. Within an hour they took casting and digital whatever, and I left the office owing over $5,000. I began to think that I'd been conned. Then the insurance denied everything, but I'm still on the hook for everything out of pocket, even though no procedure has even started. Dentist ssys don't worry. Lol

To me, the worst part is the change in my talking and trying to get used to the denture (immediate), it's as embarrassing, if not more, than having decaying teeth. I'm 10 days post op and I sound and look like a chipmunk

I just had 10 teeth taken out at the front of my mouth, the dentist put the partials in right away, after the freezing came out it was very difficult, not because of pain but because of all the plastic in my mouth...and then when I took them out for the first time and saw the gapping hole in the front of my mouth I stayed in bed all day and cried full of regret, is it possible for the denturist to shave some of that plastic down, I have a very small mouth and not only did they give me new front teeth but also added back teeth on the bottom which I have not had in over 40 yrs, so having all that added plastic my tongue feels like it has no room in my mouth, how long is this going to last, I like the new smile but at what cost, I wish I had done more research before getting this done, but now I just need some support to get me through this transition!!

@SaaayUNCLE In some ways I like it and in other ways I can't stand it... I don't like dentures I can't even enjoy a meal... I have lost over eighty pounds since getting this done... I have a better fitting pair ready right now. I just have to wait for my appointment but it's still the same thing... I really want to get implants... It bothers me a lot the way my face looks when I take these out... But I am happy that they look better. And I don't feel shy to smile anymore... I don't want it to be completely negative I see this as a step... And the weight loss was a nice thing... I needed that so I look in to feel a whole lot better overall

I am in the 3rd week. I am sore, mainly sores in my mouth from the dentures. I can not talk at all without a lisp. I don't have a job, but I tell my friends I have had major dental work done. I have immediate dentures and I am going to work up to snap-in dentures with 6 implants. I have gone back to the dentist, and they tried to file the dentures down, I still have stitches, could that be the problem? Can someone please help me.

I am just embarking on this journey. Two people at work know. I am just telling everyone else straight implants. There is one arse who is always making denture remarks. My spouse is talking about playing banjo music. I am just not ready to joke. I do not have enough bone on top even with most of my teeth up there, which freaks me out, so I have to go a regular upper. I am scared, but scared to stay where I am at.
