The only good thing about this game is the combat, that's it. You'll enjoy it for a couple of hours but, like I've always said, the game lacks a soul. I don't know how to enplain it.
Bro this is so true. I can only play this game for like a week to a few days but at the end of the day, such a big world just feels empty. And a lot of the pvp changes take away the previous thrill of just seeing wars pop out in front of you while doing stuff which made the world feel alive
i used to LOVE BDO when i first started playing. Probably one of the most fun games i played in a long while. i remember when i first started playing it, i used to tell myself "omg, i can't wait to get off work to play black desert, it's gonna be great!" A year later, i honestly can't play the game for more than maybe 30 minutes. it feels empty. At least when i first started it actually was fun getting better and understanding the system, there was so much to learn and do. Once you know how to do everything and you become a decent lvl, it just feels so empty and meaningless afterwards. I try to convince myself to play it, maybe i can spend time cooking, and getting money, yknow that might take FOREVER before i can make a decent profit, or maybe spend time fighting mobs that that you need to spend a good hour or two before you can level up again, maybe even longer than that. it just feels like work, and not the meaningful kind either, just work that has no value or real reason to do it. If i wanted to put this much effort into something i would much rather put it into work that matters, but i can no longer convince myself this is really worth my time anymore. It was fun in the beginning but stuff changes and i will never be able to replicate that same feeling i had when i first played it. Gotta move on to different stuff.
This happened to me with another MMO I played. I think, going forward, MMOs need to focus far more on social features than grinding. Grinding in itself is useless & is boring eventually. Social features are what gives the grinding long-term meaning. In MMOs, the reason to stay with the game will be the people you can interact with and what you can do together with them. If the social features and activities are lame, repetitive, and/or boring, people will leave once they've completed enough of the main game.
Everything you said about bdo is from 2022/2023. Don't try and resell this game to something it isn't. There is no reason to grind, there is no end game pvp, there is no pvp, period.
I quit years ago and let me tell you. This guy is right. They never fixed the karma system from what I've heard. They actually punish you for using the pvp system in open world and node wars is just surviving mages blindly throwing out AOE in a laggy hellscape. Then you have lifeskilling which you literally are encouraged not to play the game actively as it's an afk idle simulator. Turn back. Save your hair.
Been playing for a month and now every time I play I can’t play for more than 30 minutes before I ask myself what the hell am I doing all this grind for, I’m not having fun at all and get off.
No. Go play GW2 instead. You can thank me later. If your picking up BDO for it's PVP and open world Combat, you're better off with GW2. It's cheaper, doesn't require a ton of grinding to PVP, and you won't be disappointed every Wednesday Morning to find out the patch sucks.
would you say that playing on a server with 5-10X normal XP and LOOT rates can offset the amount of grind needed? or will it still be super grindy just more bareable
I tried it but not much content to do when you got 3 friends that are wanting to play together, felt way too slow and empty and extremely repetitive. Also the character creation is stupid, I shouldn’t be forced to play a guy or a girl for any specific class, let me make my character how I want or leave character customization out of a game if you’re not going to completely embrace it.
Yeah 2 minutes in and this is already BS. The skill tree "allows for a ton of customization". No it doesnt. It literally doesnt. I dont know why you would straight up lie right at the start lmao. I have 650 hours in the game and I would never describe any of the progression as customizable. There are 2 systems that are "customizable". One where you can choose between 2 skills in 3 branches (There are obvious ones that are better than others that you would be genuinely wrong not to pick) and the Skill addon system that lets you add passive buffs to abilities, which also has obvious choices. Your base "Skill tree" is NOT customizable. You will get more than enough Skill Points to have everything and there are 0 options that change gameplay. Also talking about open world group content. There is barely anything. World bosses once a week. Group grinding zones where you do literally the same thing as solo zones (Running in a circle and kill mobs) but with a couple other people. There are maybe 2 dungeons and one 3 person wave defense game. Every character wears the same gear and they give it out for free, then its on to the boring endgame grind for the ultra rare endgame armor that you have to % chance upgrade (0.5-3% chance btw. BILLIONS of silver per attempt btw) Also the "Large scale wars" are available every what, 2 weeks? "Side quests give a ton of exp" What a joke of a statement lmfao "You need to understand market trends and node investments" What? You dont. What are you even talking about? I dont know why the min max endgame is being shown as if its the base player experience. 7:50 Yeah, you know the game doesnt actually have anything impressive to talk about when youre praising the obviously good visuals. Wow, the visuals are great? How'd you figure that one out? Here is an actual opinion about the visuals: While the game looks good on Remastered mode, youre going to notice a significant performance decrease compared to other MMOs (Obviously). If you arent running very high end hardware, youre not going to have the Remastered mode running during PvP, and will most likely turn down the graphics significantly in order to get decent enough performance to compete in PvP. You can see the particle effects on just your character right? Yeah, now imagine that x20. You cant run it smoothly without a 3080-40 series card or equivalent. So for PvP you will get rid of those "impressive visuals" (Realistic visuals). Now, even out of PvP you might not want the Remastered mode on, because without a high end system youre going to be at 50-90 FPS depending where you are and whats happening. Another thing, which this "Review" doesnt mention is that the game is not optimized for modern hardware well. If you have a multithread CPU youre probably going to have to go into NVidia settings or equivalent to turn on thread optimization to get the game to stop chugging and stuttering. Another thing this "review" didnt mention, despite bringing up customization, is that you will look the same for 90% of the game, and yes I include endgame in that. Only a couple pieces of gear change the way you look, and f2p players get 4 free outfits through questing. Those outfits are a gamble depending on your class. They might all 4 be different, they might all be exactly the same, they might all be mostly the same with minor differences, depends. You MAIN source of customization is from the CASH SHOP. Which this absolute goober of a reviewer COMPLETELY IGNORED despite briefly showing all the weight increase packs he whaled on. I mean, I have 600 hours in this game and even I havent whaled on those. I bought one on sale. Your class is going to have 1-3 or 4 different UNIQUE outfits you can BUY. Depending on release. Older classes have more and newer ones are going to be stuck with one for a long time. Then there are a bunch of generic stuff almost every class could wear. Oh, dont forget the extremely cringe underwear you can buy. I should also mention these outfits, the ones that provide the only customization you can have for your armor? Yeah, 20-40 dollars a piece, and character bound. So lets say you want to buy a costume for your class and wear it on another character of the same class, like a seasonal character. Nope. You cant. You have to spend 20-40 dollars again. Even for functional p2w lifeskill outfits. You bought the farmer outfit and want to wear it on another character? Nope. You have to buy it again. This is the case with a lot. Even FURNITURE FOR YOUR HOUSE. You can buy wallpaper in the cash shop, and that wallpaper, lol, has a ONE TIME USE. So if you decide you want to try another wallpaper, you straight up DELETE THE ITEM YOU PAID FOR FROM EXISTENCE, to replace it. This is all without mentioning how HIGHLY incentivized you are to pay for convenience. Which is why the Goober in the vid whaled on all those weight packs. If you dont BUY weight packs? GOOD LUCK. If you dont buy pets for autolooting? GOOD LUCK. ALL IGNORED IN THE REVIEW. You will run out of weight at a grind spot in 30 minutes, depending on location, without weight increases. You will be extremely inefficient without whaling for Tier 4 pets with the fastest autoloot. I highly recommend finding another reviewer, Im already writing an essay and I have barely scratched the surface. If youre looking to get into BDO FIND ANOTHER REVIEWER. This guy barely scratches the surface and just glazes the bare bones of the game as if it the majority of the experience. ITS NOT. Most of the time youre going to be staring at menus or running in circles.
