There is only one watch that takes the 1st prize, and that is the Citizen. All the others are runners up. I would rate that Citizen against any watch. Beautifully made, super accurate and only out by 4 seconds a month.

The Citizen Pro Masters with the crown at 3 instead of 4 are my preference. But I agree with the general point. I love quartz watches and solar watches are so much the better. There are an infinite sum of good options in other watch styles in Quartz or solar, but not that many good ones in true divers. Citizen is really a good pick in that sense

Love my Duro, it's a daily and over 2yrs old
I'm very hard on watches, have NO scratches on the crystal, and it's in very good shape. The lume is not great, have no issues with the crown, and the second hand hitting the markers is hit or miss(no pun intended). It appears to get better with time, btw(mine is very good).
As for how it wears is subjective, on my Average size wrist (17-18cm)
I've spent more on straps then on the watch and Love it... Spends most of its time on a StrapCode 22mm Super-J Louis JUB Watch Band Straight End, 316L Stainless Steel Solid V-Clasp Button Double Lock. And on that it really punches above it's weight.

I have the Citizen in blue and it’s a heckuva deal at around $200-250. It’s one of two watches in my daily wear rotation. The only complaint is the strap is gaudy - I replaced it with an Island Watch bracelet pretty quickly. I will say the Orient is a beautiful watch, especially at the price. Christopher Ward is also killing it right now.

No.9 you've mixed up 2 watches there - the Orient Kamasu 2 (the one with the patina lume) and the Orient Mako 3 (which has arabics at 6, 9 and 12). The case is the same but the new Mako 3 has finally solved the issue with the crown that was impossible to unscrew/ screw in. I've owned both, for less that £250 its unbeatable value from a mainstream brand for the specs.

Never been so glad when someone outbid me! :D Out of the ones in your selection, it would be either the Baltic, or the Seiko for me. The Baltic for it's classic Blancpain looks, and the Seiko purely for it being the reliable and trustworthy Seiko (Ignoring recent QC issues regarding alignment of bezel/chapter ring etc. !).

Some pro divers say that sapphire is not an ideal crystal material for dive watches - too brittle they say. Better to go for mineral or **gasp** acrylic!
With that in mind, may I recommend the Citizen Promaster Diver NY0040-17L (the blue one). Mineral crystal, in house auto movement, 42mm steel case, all for less than £200.
After wearing it for a few years, what endears me to it is how comfortable it is to wear. The crown is in the most sensible place and the case is sculpted with very smooth curves wherever it touches the skin.
The dial is good, too, with a sunburst finish that is attarctive without being too gaudy. Practical enough for one version to be chosen by the Italian Navy for military purposes.
You really have to try it on to appreciate what it is - a good looking practical tool with no unnecessary frills for a very low price.

    • @stupidocanerosa
      @stupidocanerosa Год назад

Too brittle? A sapphire crystal is less resistant to knocks than a mineral one? A sintetic material second in hardness only to diamond? 😂😂😂
That's totally nonsense. Tell you fella scuba divers they are totally wrong. It's crystal, yes, but not that wine flute crystal. That's really brittle.
You can hammer a nail into the wood with a sapphire crystal. Try to do it with mineral or plastic ones...

The Kamasu II is just brilliant. It's obviously a Sub/SMP type watch, but they've dialled it in to be it's own thing. The Ray-type round indices look more timeless and readable than the version 1 of the watch. If they could only figure out a way to do their notched bezels in ceramic; the aftermarket SKX bezels make Orients look more chunky than the original bezel.

The meter ratings are NOT a true indicator that the watches can go to those depth. Recreational divers generally dont go beyond 130 ft. Commercial divers no more than 300. Both of them would be crazy to dive them as a life support system, For the past several decades divers rely on dive computers and bottom timers. All dive watches no matter how good they are, are really a tool of the past. No different than chronograph’s.
I love to see them and perhaps use them as daily drivers, but never for diving.

You don't have to be 'dench ' to wear the Seiko turtle as it's only 47 mm lug to lug. If you're thinking about buying one of the Seiko 5 srpd diver style watches that keep getting recommended, try the turtle on first. A proper watch.

"Faux lume" on the Baltic, "beads of rice" bracelet on the mido.
Try faux patina (fauxtina) and shark mesh (thick Milanese) next time.
