@@larryandpaul I'm an author on psychology in the collapse of civilisations - yes the UK is screwed and no Labour can not save it. The UK has reached a point called interconnected cascading systems failure. OR - everything is broken and everything you need to fix. It is also broken.
America has also reached this point, but the sheer scale of America and the momentum that carries means the decline will be much slower in America than it is in the UK
But what it's important to remember is that this happens to countries all the time and people live through it. The vast majority of people in the vast majority of collapsing civilisations, never even knew it was happening. The reason we know is we have TV and social media. It really is a kind of "the only thing to fear is fear itself" situation.
This is the list of contributing factors to societal collapse:
Plague / disease Yes
Environmental change Y
Massive wealth inequality Y
Loss of the administrative class Y
The government stops governing Y
Attack from the outside - now includes cyber attack Y
Loss of faith in the political system Y
Economic collapse Y
Exposed obvious corruption Y
Crumbling infrastructure Y
Mismanagement of a crisis Y
Societal division Y
Loss of belief in the unity of the society Y
Restriction of international trade / loss of trade agreements Y
Increased isolationism Y
Rising internal violence Not yet
Excessive spending on military / arms race Yes - starting
Inability to maintain the currency - hoarding / devaluation / inflation Y
If a majority of things on the list happen to a civilisation simultaneously, it is invariably the end for that civilisation. If all happen at the same time, it's guaranteed to be the end. The USSR collapsed with 9 out of the 18.

The UK will have a very hard 20 years followed by 20 years of rebirth followed by 20 years of boom. It's just what happens in the UK just happens to be at the bad bit.

In my previous job I used to keep a list of some of the names of applicants i dealt with.
P.S. These are all real. Enjoy!
Solicitors:
- Green & Gaunt.
- Wright Hassle.
- Bodget, Blewitt & Blunder.
Applicants:
- John Thomas (there were lots of these).
- Mr Schitz
- Mr. W. Anchor
- Wayne Kerr
- Dick Cheeseman
- Two brothers Chris Peacock & Drew peacock (say them quickly)
- Mrs Fuk Hin Hoa (Best said in a Geordie accent)
- A couple called Neal & Sukme
My two favourites;
1) Mrs Anal.
When she rang and her name popped up on her screen I asked her to confirm her name, D.O.B, etc 'for security reasons' but really to check how she pronounced her name and that someone hadn't changed it on the system as a joke. She pronounced it like canal. Thinking I'd dodged a bullet I then asked what her query was:
"It''s about my retention..."
How I didn't lose it at that point I've no idea.
2) Urike Hund
I can tell you it's very hard to stay professional on the phone to someone with that name, especially when all your colleagues are crying with laughter! He was a brummie with German parents. Fantastic name made even better by his strong accent and the fact he worked in a customer complaints department. I used to imagine him answering the phone:
"Customer Complaints, Urike Hund. How may I help you?"🤣🤣🤣

I had a teacher once called Joyce De 'ath. We often thought she had simply added the comma and space so she wouldn't get it so mercilessly off the kids!

Horribly accurate
As a geography teacher, I basically cry myself to sleep at night seeing 'pretend to care about the climate' listed 9th on prospective PMs to-do lists. There's no BUPA for climate change.
It's just another fear to tax your existence. Sleep well, but please stop banging that drum at every opportunity.
Also spending billions on people who never paid and never will pay tax to live here.
Yes we know billionaires always hide their money in tax havens and we need to concentrate on getting these real leeches paying some tax.
