@@nagilumx6715 The problem with the idea of psychic energy is that there's no identifiable energy to match such a phenomenon, and in fact our ability to identify what energy is doing exactly what doesn't leave much room for such a thing to exist. We know that the brain is a bunch of electro-chemical impulses, and those impulses, even if we don't really understand the minutia of it, are well accounted for in terms of energy economy. In other words, there isn't, for instance, a bunch of electrical energy that just seems to be disappearing into the void in an unexplained manner, to which one could suggest is powering some kind of psychic phenomenon. There is the absolutely tangential _possibility_ of some kind of dualistic existence, wherein there's more reality that exists in parallel with our own reality, with some kind of unexploited potential, but that still requires... Y'know... Proof. You'd need some kind of definitive demonstration that there are fundamental forces of nature as of yet completely unseen by us, and discovering such would be a discovery on a level even more extreme than that of the Higgs Boson. That isn't to say that reality manipulation is out of the question, but a species that advances to that point would likely do it through a method we're already familiar with: Tool use, augmentation, etc. I do think the sort of stuff you're suggesting might be possible, I. E. figuring out how to "pinch" the fabric of space and create matter from "nothing," but it wont be done by some kind of bogus "psychic" energy. But rather some unfathomably advanced technology based off an understanding of physics we're not even close to yet. On a side note: Something people forget is that biological life is really just a machine made out of flesh anyway. We have servos, computing clusters, lubrication, etc... All within our body already, it's maybe just not the most efficient design. Hell, every cell in our body contains a miniature power plant. Who's to say we couldn't engineer biotechnology that straddles the line between machine and lifeform with all the strengths of both and almost none of the weaknesses? I question the idea that an advanced species ever needs to truly give up its primordial uniqueness to advance into the stars. It just needs to be... Tempered, a bit. Tweaked, improved, upgraded, bugs ironed out.
This is my favorite channel. This channel motivated me to create content. Thank you so much for inspiring others and bringing quality education and theory to RUclips.
Perfect and concise, awesome as always John! Also just wanted to point out that a "Louver Arrangement", "Shkadov Thruster", and a "Nicoll Dyson Beam" could easily be all incorporated into an energy collecting Dyson Swarm. Dyson Swarms really are a multi-tool of usefulness in space engineering, and why so many scientist think we should see them. Its also estimated that you would only need a 10 percent Dyson Swarm on our star to get the energy needed to produce endless amounts of "Kugelblitz Black Holes" which are more efficient Dyson Swarms if "Hawking Radiation" is correct. So we need the ability to detect 10 percent complete Dyson Swarms and up to know there arn't any in our galaxy or others.
Excellent, well throughout video. Transition from a biological civilization to a cyborg, and then to a self-replicating von Neumann probe, or nano-cyberconscious civilization seems highly likely from our perspective. But our modern science and technology are barely a century or two old, and as we progress, the crystal ball's revelations become largely unpredictable.
Przybylski's star is such a fascinating enigma. Even if it's nothing to do with extraterrestrial intelligence, something really weird is going on with it.
The problem SETI has is they're looking for extraterrestrial communications via radio waves. Which is the stellar communication equivalent of a 94 year old woman driving 35 miles an hour down the highway with her blinker on.
I love what you say at the end here. Indeed, it sums up the arrogance of many scientists. A smart person in Medieval Europe would have had ideas/imaginings of life in the future, but no real clue as to how we would be living today. Thus, judging other interstellar civilizations; indeed, our own future from the narrow understandings and viewpoints of where we are at this moment in time, brings into question the pretentious, ignorant, wankers, who say things like replicator and teleportation technology will never be possible. Heck, I'm no science major, but I'll go one better, and say one day these technologies might be outdated, or unnecessary.
Assuming we don't detect (or are visited by) alien civilisations over the next century, I wonder how our criteria for "other civilisations" might have changed?
Videos like this will be laughed upon and seeing that thousands of people or possibly millions would have viewed them, they would consider us gullible and possibly time wasters.
I fear as long as the indicators are rather subtle that an observation will always be explainable by some new obscure natural explanation. It might actually take a rebroadcasted Hitler speech from Vega to convince the scientific community. Maybe.
I've always had a problem with the concept of self-replicating machines. I'm reminded of the old saying, the only machine that can make itself is a lathe. (Yes, I'm a fitter/machinist) For my money, scientists always seem to forget the precision needed to make some components & the fact that virtually every complex machine on the planet has at least one component made by a lathe which could not be printed with a 3-D printer unless you were laying down not much more than molecules at a time. Or am I missing something?

On point nr 3. Imagine if earth was meant for another civilization as a backup plan for their world, and because of circumstances we arose to steal it from them.. What would they do if the came back to find us. Cool video I really enjoy your stuff!
I feel like until intelligent life walks up and shakes our hand, even if we detected anything like this, it would just be explained away as some freak natural occurrence.
18:55 Putting aside the wildly different outlooks and philosophies that any alien civilization would have compared to us, I think alien civilizations each comprise of a vastly diverse set of individuals: some ambitious, some nihilistic, some nice, some cruel, some smart, some dumb, some who wish to learn and explore, some who think they have all the answers. And a number who are perverted or outright insane. So in that sense, they would be a lot like us I think.
Good ideas, John Michael. My only quibble? It's not appropriate to throw the cost of a procedure into the equation. A civilization that can build a Dyson Sphere has enough machines working for them to afford anything they want. One does not have to pay a robot.

Trying to imagine what that could look like, assuming atmosphere/gravity compatibility, similar enough ideas about what constitutes a party, agreement on choice of intoxicants, availability of caterers... The list is endless. Thanks for stretching my brain some more!
Aliens can: -Make giant objects orbiting their stars. -Make gigantic planetary shield -Fill up stars with plutonium -Move their home world. -Move their star. But they just can't achieve faster than light space travel because that's clearly far fetched.
Its also very frightening that some AlienColonies would build a MegaStructure around OUR Own star the sun in space, its perfectly possible if there very big!
Either there's a cap on how advanced technology can get within what is reasonable for a civilization to do (even if they want to do more), intelligent life is rare, and/or life is rare. Those are my 3 favorite solutions (or some combination thereof) to the Fermi paradox. Also idk why I'm not subscribed.....Fixed!
Even if there were a civilization comparable to our own as near as the Alpha Centauri system, could we even detect them? Even at that relatively short cosmic distance, would even a single radio transmission be detectable from there?
The thing with level 3 civilizations is, if they managed to encase the vast majority of stars in their galaxy within dyson spheres before we built hubble, we wouldnt even notice them because their galaxy would be very dark now. There could be thousands of them out in the universe and we cant see them at this distance.
I don't believe that they would be making a dyson sphere as they may have found a better way to create energy which may violate rules of energy. who knows, anything is possible.

The problem with the idea of psychic energy is that there's no identifiable energy to match such a phenomenon, and in fact our ability to identify what energy is doing exactly what doesn't leave much room for such a thing to exist.
Fry once moved the stars for Leela so I think that one can come of the list as being a sign of alien life 😁
Terrific, very interesting video. Thanks.
This is my favorite channel. This channel motivated me to create content. Thank you so much for inspiring others and bringing quality education and theory to RUclips.
Thanks, John! You just made my Saturday night!
JohnnyJohn116 he made my Sunday evening.
My Sunday morning!
My early monday morning :D
Appreciate these medium length videos!
This is the good content I listen to especially during sleep. Continue these great videos.
Thanks. I needed one of your videos today.
Absolutely fascinating channel. Thanks for your dedication.
It would be less of a transition than a replacement, though.
Przybylski's star is such a fascinating enigma. Even if it's nothing to do with extraterrestrial intelligence, something really weird is going on with it.
It'd be so incredible to see your ideas put into a movie/show about theoretical advanced civilization(s). I really enjoyed this, thank you!
Yeah I agree, anyway he does write. 2 books so far I think. You could check em out if you haven't 😉
The problem SETI has is they're looking for extraterrestrial communications via radio waves. Which is the stellar communication equivalent of a 94 year old woman driving 35 miles an hour down the highway with her blinker on.
It also takes for granted that aliens even use sound waves to communicate.
You sir, are amazing. Another top notch video with that soothing voice. Thanks for all your work!
Excellent video. They keep getting better and better. Keep it up.👍
Great video again ,always a treat
Another Great Video
Woke up with a new video notification from John Michael Godier. Best weekend ever!
My favorite thing about these videos is how replayable they are
I love what you say at the end here.
Luv your videos, you always start my more intellectual thought process. As well, the voice is so mind soothing.
Have you read the Revolutinary phenotype
Merry christmas
Assuming we don't detect (or are visited by) alien civilisations over the next century, I wonder how our criteria for "other civilisations" might have changed?
And this kind of video still exist and watched by future humans they will probably LOLed because we're ridiculous
Maybe.
Both your channels are on point and absolutely lovely. Keep up the good work!
I've always had a problem with the concept of self-replicating machines. I'm reminded of the old saying, the only machine that can make itself is a lathe. (Yes, I'm a fitter/machinist)
For my money, scientists always seem to forget the precision needed to make some components & the fact that virtually every complex machine on the planet has at least one component made by a lathe which could not be printed with a 3-D printer unless you were laying down not much more than molecules at a time.
Or am I missing something?
Man.. you make videos about things I actually wonder about. I'm a pretty deep thinker, and I'm curious about things most others aren't. I like how you word the title exactly how a person might ask.. it really catches my attention. Thanks!
Good job, sir big-ego
5 minute video on Event Horizon, 20 minute video on JMG. The world is becoming undone.
Yes been waiting for a video like this again !
Love you dude, loving the long videos!!!
Great video length! Not too short, not too long. I hope the 15 - 20 minute duration will persist into the future.
Thanks! Trying to do two 15-20 minute vids per month these days. Won't all be that long, of course, but I want to do more longer content.
@@JohnMichaelGodier I really feel like this is you at your best stride. Although, I personally quite enjoy longer videos, I know that many do not. This feels like you have enough time to deliver your insight without overwhelming a new sub.
PS. Congrats on your 100K subscriber milestone. I'm very glad to see your channel seems to be picking up momentum. I look forward to seeing this trend continue!
Very good video, John
Now, this video I can actually hear everything. ;) thumbs up...
What is the city at the start of this video?
18:55 Putting aside the wildly different outlooks and philosophies that any alien civilization would have compared to us, I think alien civilizations each comprise of a vastly diverse set of individuals: some ambitious, some nihilistic, some nice, some cruel, some smart, some dumb, some who wish to learn and explore, some who think they have all the answers. And a number who are perverted or outright insane. So in that sense, they would be a lot like us I think.
Another great, thought-provoking video, John! Thank you!
Long time, no see! But this video is worth the wait :-)
Approved.
I love johns videos so much
Good ideas, John Michael. My only quibble? It's not appropriate to throw the cost of a procedure into the equation. A civilization that can build a Dyson Sphere has enough machines working for them to afford anything they want. One does not have to pay a robot.
Fascinating thoughts, John. Great video. Thanks.
Your videos are excellent brain-food. And your voice is perfect spice. Keep cooking. 😄
So glad to see that sub count! I have been griping (since you were under 2k) that you deserved much more. (Still do, but they're coming!)
I just wanted to say that I love your channels and whenever one comes out, I watch it that night. I want to watch the event horizon channel, but I don’t have time usually to watch videos that long. Have you considered releasing them in pieces? Maybe split it into 4 parts and release them the same day? I think that channel would get a lot more views. I don’t want to criticize you, though. Just an idea.
Another awesome video! Love your work
Very interesting. Food for thought for sure.
Thank you JMG.. I'm on all day marathon, yr video's/voice are just so right😂🍻💜🇱🇷✝️
I like the idea of putting a sunlight absorbing object in orbit around the sun... For study.
Also I always enjoy your videos thank you for the upload I always look forward to the next one
How informative - and with such an appealing voice...
Excellent video !!
I definitely hear you, it's about mind boggling, but very plausible!i!
very good thinking material as always.
good stuff John
never read one of your books, no offence i never encountered them. but i gotta say your insight and depth of concideration of the possible unknown is refreshing to say the least
How far away would we have be to not detect ourselves?
10 light years?
I think 150 ly
"the life of the party in the Milky Way" Aliens and humans whooping it up together! Trying to imagine what that could look like, assuming atmosphere/gravity compatibility, similar enough ideas about what constitutes a party, agreement on choice of intoxicants, availability of caterers... The list is endless. Thanks for stretching my brain some more!
One hopes the commonalities are enough to be able to party!
Love your videos!
Aliens can:
-Make giant objects orbiting their stars.
-Make gigantic planetary shield
-Fill up stars with plutonium
-Move their home world.
-Move their star.
But they just can't achieve faster than light space travel because that's clearly far fetched.
To go faster than light you have to go faster than causality. That's a big problem in my understanding.
ruclips.net/video/msVuCEs8Ydo/видео.html
Yes it is because it violates physics while the rest on the list do not.
@@inkoalawetrust it violates our current understanding of physics.
Its also very frightening that some AlienColonies would build a MegaStructure around OUR
Own star the sun in space, its perfectly possible if there very big!
I felt a disturbance in the force, and sure enough, JMG posted another great video!
And still, another great video. Thanks again.
Love these videos keep them coming
Either there's a cap on how advanced technology can get within what is reasonable for a civilization to do (even if they want to do more), intelligent life is rare, and/or life is rare. Those are my 3 favorite solutions (or some combination thereof) to the Fermi paradox. Also idk why I'm not subscribed.....Fixed!
Even if there were a civilization comparable to our own as near as the Alpha Centauri system, could we even detect them? Even at that relatively short cosmic distance, would even a single radio transmission be detectable from there?
Great show - Thanks
What a good time to be alive
Thank you John.
Awesome video great job !
Fascinating ! Now answer this question .Is knowledge unlimited or is it possible to know everything? I mean you have an unfathomably power computer will it reach the end of knowledge?
JMG you're my hero :)
Been meaning to ask you, have you ever read Accelerando?
Hello I love your videos !
I love your videos!!! As a lover of sci-fi, I like how you connect the so called "fiction" to reality. Also you should do more crossovers with Isaac Arthur, I adored the video you two did together!!! Much love my dude! ^_^
"....along with cute pictures of pets that would be DEADLY to HUMANS should we ever try to 'pet' them." It's notions like this that make me curious about Mr. Godier's writing. 👍
Only certain planetary systems may be colonised for alien-mining expeditions, why not?
