Thank you for taking the time to make the video. My exhaust solenoid failed on my Malibu at 82K miles. It started sounding like I had jake brakes or a custom air cleaner when the CEL came on. Dealer quoted $287. You also gave specific instructions on how to disconnect the wiring connector (3:15). Cleared code with OBD2 Scanner. Fuel mileage shot back up immediately. Thanks again, sir!
You can also disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes and the check engine light should go off if you have already changed the solenoid. 👍 Worked for me anyway.
This is a great and helpful video! Took the malibu in and got a quote, mechanic said $1300 to fix this issue 🤣 part was $55 and took 15 min to change. Thanks!
Well is recommended to replace both as they get dirty as well, other wise if you replace one shortly after you will have to replace the other one. I have a 2014 Chevy malibu and pretty much replaced almost all the sensors. If you have any questions, shoot me a text, and I'll be more than happy to help
I totally agree with you. However Be careful as to not to drop anything(accidentally) in that oil filler while you are working on it. Dirt can easily get in. Good luck!
You are welcome! I hope this helps! I leaned that sometimes the same check engine code comes up for different issues. Here is an alternative fix: ruclips.net/video/gbACkPvNyrY/видео.html
I thought your diagnostics said it was the rocker arm oil control solenoid? What you changed are the VVT solenoids. And the Rocker Arm Oil Control solenoids had a special coverage "warranty" from GM under certain circumstances. FYI
My car is doing a very small skip/shudder in 3rd and 4th gear. The ONLY code that keeps coming up is P2646 (15’ Malibu LT 2.5). I changed the oil and it started driving a little better, but it’s still doing that random skip/shudder (it’s ugly). Any suggestions? Again, no other code comes up and when i turn the car off, the engine light goes away and the car is fine. Not sure what to do.
Hey there, sorry to hear about your car. So 1st thing I suggest is to check the related fuses, some of these cars have a fuse for related oxygen sensors, rocker arm actuator system, and related sensors. Just pull you owner's manual and start checking every single fuse or just related fuses. If any related fuse is bad, replace it. Also replace your Air filter if it is bad or dirty. If you had the Air filter for more than 10-12K miles just go ahead and replace it. It only costs $10-$20 or so. Since it ran little bit better after oil change, the problem seems to be the dirty, or clogged solenoids, valves, and sensors. So I would also pour in about 5 ounces of Seafoam or Gumout into the engine run it for 20-30 highway miles or so and then do another fresh SYNTHETIC oil change. This might help, but you have to spend $30-$50 on this one. Here is one video where it helped my car after I changed the "Oil Control Valve" on the engine. So here it is: ruclips.net/video/gbACkPvNyrY/видео.html How many miles do you have on your Malibu? I hope this helps, let me know how it goes. Good Luck!!!
Wow! My 14 Malibu has a stall issue that the dealership had to contact GM over. They said the problem was the "intake camshaft actuator". The dealership told me it costs $330 for parts, labor and tax!
@Rich A ours ran fine until we got to a redlight and autostop kicked in. Then it would try to restart the engine and shut down completely. We replaced the intake and exhaust solenoid, worked great (until my wife totaled it 4 months later 🤣)
That’s strange because that part is a ENGINE VARIABLE TIMING SOLENOID. The CAMSHAFT SENORS A/B BANKS are small plastic plug looking. Codes P0016/P0017 is the manufacturer’s EU ID#. No not growl or noise. It was fine after I fixed the code and replaced the intake solenoid valve. However 2 months later same code re-appeared. This time I had to replace an “Oil Pressure Control Valve” and it fixed the shakiness at 35-60 mph speed. The oil pressure valve part coast around $98. There 2 fixes that I found out so far. Replacing the oil pressure control valve helps too. And please people use synthetic oil now. These modern cars the conventional oil is messing up all the valves and tiny engine components from my personal experience. And do change oil frequently without delays....
Maybe so. But the problem with synthetic blend is we don’t know how much of it has synthetic oil in it. So most mechanics suggest using synthetic oil on these modern cars. I personally switched to Royal Purple premium Synthetic oil a year ago for ALL my cars. I can go 10-12K miles on Royal Purple. I love it. So my opinion is using synthetic oil is better than using synthetic blend. Good Luck!
Hello Bruce. Any local Chevy Dealership will have that connector at their Parts department. If they don’t have it they can order one for you.
