    Robbe, I see from other comments that you’re feeling better now which is awesome but wanted to say that everything you said about running and your reaction to the flare up of your Achilles tendon really resonated with me. I’m 36 and finding my days of simply running without the cross training, warmups, and cooldowns are over. It just results in setbacks. I’ve found that a shift in perspective has helped me a lot. If strength training and warmups allow me to continue to do what I love (running) then it’s worth it.
    As always, a great podcast. I really enjoy watching you all. I have already decided that I am definitely doing summer grit this year!

    I think I had this kind of injury I few years ago, soleus pain that goes all the way down the Achilles. Stopped running for like 2 weeks. But the next time it happened to me on the other leg, I tried massaging it and stretching it and I got back earlier. Hope you get better soon, just don’t go all out if you feel fine.

    I get it Robbe. 6 weeks before the 2019 CIM, I tore my hamstring during an interval session. I rehabbed and rested, started the race out really slow and still DNF'd at mile 12. I'm 67 and have raced for more than 50 years and it's the only DNF I've ever gotten. Just thinking about still pisses me off.

    NCR for instance if you park at the White Hall lot head south down to Blue Mount Rd. left on McComas then Vernon up to White Hall turn left on White Hall (there are speeding cars) back to parking. There are so many great runs utilizing the NCR trail partially and the back roads as the meat of the run.
    It is impressive the gradual gradient of the old railroad line.

    Acute phase? Robbie avoid dorsiflexion as much as you can. Get some heel lifts to put in your shoes to deload the tendon.

    Wicked trophies! came no where near this time (kind of stuck in MCR training , so could not put the distance in ) but it is fun, if I can keep my age percentile >85 I shall be happy 🙂. In the 70's I lived in a single parent household , in 1980 I lived on Lombard street not in an apartment not far from what was the presidio ..anyway summer holidays my mom had to work (down in the embarcadero) and I was left to my own devices .. sometime got up to no good , but often just taking the bmx to over the hills to Golden gate park , or the Golden gate , Ghirardelli.. Think twice from 75-80) I had issues with weirdo's once I was 6 and I got lucky , second time I was 11 knew what was what and ensured I remained in a safe environment. Found out where the dude worked (Chevron near by) and had my mom's boyfriend kick his head in .. part of growing up.

    First time watching, love the podcast! An unrelated question for you guys - if a shoe is “good for 10km pace” or “for marathon pace”, does that mean it is good for everyone at their 10km pace regardless of what that pace is or if the reviewers marathon pace was 8min/m it would be good for my 10km pace sessions not marathon pace sessions?

    • @Believeintherun
      @Believeintherun  Год назад +1

      Generally speaking, yes... but there are a few shoes that seem to work at actual faster paces, not perceived effort. Thanks for watching!

    Why do so many runners hate lifting 😂

    • @daddyV88
      @daddyV88 Год назад +2

      Probably because they’re doing hiit and lifting till they’re sore, which putting them off. It’s like asking someone who’s never run to do 10k for their first run - they’re not going to have a good time. I think the experience will be a lot better if they lift with moderate-low intensity until the body adapts before pushing. My guidance to weight lifting beginners is to feel the pump but never push yourself to extreme soreness for the first month or so

    • @Believeintherun
      @Believeintherun  Год назад +2

      You're probably right, it's that getting past the first stage part, or i guess establishing a habit. I think for me, it's more like... there's no tangible goal to reach towards, it's just... you're more fit, and that doesn't move the needle for me - R

      @@Believeintherun I feel like if you examine what "more fit" means for you, maybe you could find more incentive. For example, if you're "more fit" you can run faster and even further based on the added muscular endurance. Even if you're running on a training plan, you're more fit in terms of the benefits running provide! You're also going to greatly decrease the potential for injury and the longevity of the body so you can continue to enjoy running as you get older. Just like the benefits of running, lifting (I'm not big on HIIT personally but I do it sometimes) allows your overall performance potential to grow. Plus, there are so many disciplines in lifting, you can kinda shop around and find what you enjoy the most. Just food for thought
