As a banker, I saw family members of dead customers with huge balances struggling to survive. Some of them even struggled to give their dead a befitting burial while the dead had a fat, inaccessible account balance. Terrible!

Wow this video has been very informative! My whole life I always thought next of kins can easily access a deceased person’s money without stress! Wow my mind is blown! But neze why does the bank not educate its customers about the concept of next of kin cos so many Nigerians while opening their account are of the opinion that their next of kin can access their money in the case of their demise. More education needs to be given by bankers to customers about Next of kin. I can’t begin to imagine the amount of money languishing in the accounts of lots of deceased people without anyone going to claim the money all because they didn’t want their spouses to have access to their accounts smh. A lot of people do not even have the patience to go through all the legal hassle to claim the money of their deceased relative especially when it’s not such a huge amount. The money just automatically goes to the bank. Chai!!🙆♀️

Well here in the Uk our properties has both names as owners and we are considering including our kids because we heard that here in the Uk if your children are not listed as next of kin when the parents are no more the govt takes over your properties how sad that can be. I’m just starting this video. I haven’t even watched 5mins but I want to thank you for taking the time to enlighten people because many don’t know. I knew NOK title was rubbish when my mum passed. Our eyes saw shege. Thank God I was working in my professional field and my dad well to do so we could support my mum’s pharmacy after her demise because if we were waiting for funds from her bank , that pharmacy would be closed by now. I had advice those closest to me to atleast have another trusted person signatory to their account. So I’m happy your followers get hear this info and spread the awareness. Well done 👏

Death Certificate
Probate registry to get Bank certificate for the bank to use(lists of bank account & amounts in them).
High court for letter of Administration (at least two persons goes for it)
Valid I.D Card (Drivers license, International passport etc)
Utility Bill
References(Current Account)
Passport photograph.
Bank will confirm the authenticity of the letter.
Bank will open a new account in the name of the deceased and the family will be withdrawing from it.
It will take some time,,& involves some amount of money. Thanks for the informations,, worth listening often.

A Cameroonian. After watching this video I regret buying a property with my husband but my name is not added to the documents as a co-owner. I asked about it and my husband ignorantly said it's not needed. But learning here now I regret taking his answer without finding out clearly if it should have no effect or if he is right because even here in Europe once you are a couple , you MUST purchase a property as both owners. You submit documents of both of you before a property is sold to you

In South Africa next of kin gets the money from funeral policy but the one at the ban normally goes to the wife or his children I've never really heard of the next of kin getting the money from the bank but I'm here to hear more about how other counties operate

In Canada, you put the names of your beneficiaries. Whoever is listed as your beneficiary gets the monies in your accounts (life insurance, RRSP, bank account, brokerage account). Even if you stated a different name in your will, the monies go to whoever is listed as your beneficiary
Some people write names of sons and daughters as next of kin, not the names of their spouses.
I suppose these children will go through the process you described. Obtain a Death Certificate, a Bank Certificate and Letters of Administration.

Thanks for this video. I think it is selfish for the bank to only call next of kin when the person defaulta in loans, but will allow a huge sum of money to be dormant for years without makingbeffort to at least ask next of kin of the whereabouts of the customer. This is very bad.
