  • Modified fire by ranks. It is similar to historical firing method called 'niederfallen' and used by Saxon, Austrian and Russian infantry at the beginning of the century.

    In my opinion, Empire had great graphics, specially sea warfare and it had a great campaign map with a lot of options. But the guy they hired for the AI? He should be banned from earth

      @@santiagobenedini1415 it's funny that the AI for sea combat wasn't bad at all but land battles? Basically the AI charging with cavalry and standing still to get shot... Such a waste

      @@thiagorodrigues5211 I literally won a siege battle defense with a cannon and canister shots.
      The ai just stood on the occupied walls after they took care of my line infantry and let me thin there numbers enough to make them flee, didn’t even attempt to fire a shot at my cannons

      @@VioletMilks Imagine if it had a multiplayer campaign. So a friend could actually use the AI properly instead... Damn, such a good game wasted

      Considering the leaps they went through from Shogun to Medieval 2 to Empire, they worked very hard on it. It just happens to be an imperfect product of the effort.

      @@freddawson6803 warhammer actually have Reload animation framework built. Thats why firing rate cant exceed "non existent" reload animation. I guess they use that as placeholder but never work on the animation.

      @@chance6296 I made little mod. It is not really for playing. I just added a couple of units from Imperial Splendour for custom battles with some modified animations.

    This tactic was also used by Ming Dynasty musketeer since the late 16th century.

      In Europe, it was probably devised by French in the seventies of the 17th century.

      The still used spears and bows furing this era tho, the japanese trounced koreans and chineese with european shot , it was in the cavalry department where the chinesse stil managed to salvage many situations, that and a far better artillery train.

      @@marlborotheman1222 You mean rows kneeling after (and/or before) giving a volley? Actually, it was introduced even earlier. Stefan Batory introduced this tactic to Polish infantry in his military reforms after being elected to the Polish throne. So this tactic alredy saw use in the Polish-Russian war 1577-1582.

      @@kamilszadkowski8864 The most simplest yet deadly tactic used by Japan, Korea, China and the rest of European countries since the earliest days of gunpowder warfare was the "All rank salvo fire". "All rank salvo fire" is all ranks would discharge their guns in one very large salvo, especially when the enemy was at moderately close range. This is because muskets had longer range than bows and Arrows but also less accurate, however the musket accuracy will greatly improve if you close in the distance.
      The British took "All rank salvo fire" to the extreme during 18th century, the Red Coats would march under fire until they were within 30 meters to unleash the deadly salvo fires, finally followed with a devastating bayonet charge.(The Patriot movie did depict this very well).

Yeah, actually I meant firing with fall of the ranks. There were different variations.     Hi, do you think it is possible to make them use actual volley fire like first rank will kneel and second, third will stand normally and fire all at once or at least make first rank kneel when they use rank fire? Thanks for answer

      Hi, unfortunatelly, this is not possible or at least I dont know how to do it yet. Actually, that is the first thing i wanted to make. There is such ability in Shogun 2 FotS - when you press the button first rank kneeled and unit cann't move. Then they make volley. I really want to have such ability in Empire.

      @@marlborotheman1222 yeah I know that there is this ability in Shogun 2. So maybe there is way how to modify square formation into the straight line because in square formation they actual kneel and fire at once.

      @@ladislavtausner6618 Trust me, I tried to do something with square as well. I even tried to modify pike wall formation. Unfortunately, soldiers dont like to shoot from it like from the pike square. The only thing remains is to wait for Empire 2 where proffesional developers will take proper care about all of those mechanics:(.

Well rank fire is best we got, btw I would recommend you to download empire realism and find entity_training_levels using pack file manager, copy into your mod you can have soldiers standing shoulder to shoulder in almost perfect straight line as it should be. :)

      This is literally in game. Put a unit behind wall (must be close formation) and you get this formation. This fortification is avaiable if you defend a city and you will most likely use it in city defence. Also you can station troops in buildings, but they are vurnable to artillery, so only do that inside a city.

      @@aleksapetrovic6519 i think russian way of Shooting was unussualy. They were in neeling posycion only stood up when shooting. In vanilla they neel after shot not before it like clearly third rank did

      programm is needed github.com/Frodo45127/rpfm/releases/tag/v2.5.1
      1. Find the table you want to modify. Basicaly, you need to find newest one, so start looking for it in the patches. For this mod its called unit_abilities.
      Pack file -> Open pack file then find required pack in the game data folder. Here, it will be the main.pack
      2. Find the table in the main.pack: db/unit_abilities_table/unit_abilities and extract it (rmb, Extract), eg on desktop.
      3. Then Pack file -> New pack file. Rmb on the pack name and then Add -> Add Folder. Chose just extracted folder.
      4. Make your changes in the table. Columns are clearly titled. Here, remove the ticks from abilities like earthwork etc.
      5. Pack file -> Change pack file type -> Movie. This will allow to run the mod without writing its name into the script.
      6. Pack file -> Save pack file
      7. Then just put your pack into the game data folder.
      I made this mod like a sample drive.google.com/file/d/1y5ltA_w5XncpKk7qff8L79fGwUvtYNTS/view?usp=sharing
      It enables all defenses normally available after one turn idling in custom battles but also, unfortunately, in the campaign. So, before playing campaign you may remove it.

      I made small mod myself. It includes a few units for custom battles only, some with new animation (well, not exactly new but changed). Just for some experiments and fun. The unit models, however, are from Imperial Splendour mod.
