Great video once again. One of the interesting things about this last 4 years facing Ruben's Sporting was that even though they always played in a 343/3421, they never played the same way 2 years in a row. He kept trying to find ways to reinvent the system. In the past, they would sit back a lot more, then they played with a false 9 a lot of games two seasons ago. Finally they bought Gyokeres and became even more direct and explosive, without losing the flair that Pote and Trincão bring to the game. In the middle, they have had different duos, and the profiles slightly changed throughout the seasons (palhinha -> ugarte -> huljmand. João Mário -> Matheus Nunes -> Morita/Bragança). So even though he seems to be very strict about his (theoritical) setup, he seems capable to find ways to adjust the dynamics to the players at his disposal. As a side note, he brought Sporting back to the top, so, in a way, he will find a similar situation (to be clear, I'm definitely not comparing coaching a big team in Portugal to coaching a big team in England, I'm just saying...).
Mason mount made his career playing in a 343 for Tuchel if he was to stay injury free Amorim could potentially revitalise his career because he’d suit this system
Great video. I actually think Dalot will thrive in the wingback role under Amorim. Less reliance on his defensive contribution and he's got the ability to beat players 1v1 on the outside. Probably needs to work more to get his final ball to an elite level but he seems like a player who is willing to put in extra work to improve.
@@faisalstudios10 cos he missed the sitter? He's not the first that will miss and definitely won't be the last. Dalot has been one of our most consistent and better players under Erik. I see that continuing under Amorim as well

Great breakdown. The 2 inside forwards are gonna be key to beat high pressing teams, their ability to get a good touch in and rotate and dribble out with the ball is extremely important.
Broke down the Sporting side very well, but I think you've mis-profiled some of the United players. Mazraoui has really impressed in the build up play this year so think he would be a better option in any position than Dalot. I can't believe you used Garnacho and hard working in the same sentence 😅 he seems to be the player who will be the least to benifit from this managerial switch, wouldn't surprise me if he's sold. And I can't believe anyone could think Eze is an improvement on Bruno. United have Rashford Bruno Mount Amad possibly Eriksen (but not really) to play as the 10s Zirkzee would work well in 1 of these roles in an attacking sense but agree he will struggle with the mobility when pressing
One thing i really dont agree is manager will always adapt to their best player and Amorim will definitely will adapt to Bruno not the other way around

Appreciate the work done here lots... however we have seen with the Man Utd that learning new systems takes a bit of time and INEOS already stated that they will be getting managers in the same mold or who subscribe to the same game model. Changing what we have to suit Amorim's supposed favorite 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 mid-season wouldn't make sense. The scenario I see is what has happened at Liverpool Arne Slot came in kept the major facets of Klopp's latest game model and reduced the speed of play, that way allowing a smooth transition and avoiding chaos. Most people speak of Amorim as tactically flexible and then head straight to explaining only the 3 at the back formation which I see as narrow-minded. I read that last season he did play 4 at the back and they went unbeaten for half of the season + Man Utd has always played with explosive wingers and not wing backs.(something people seem to have forgotten coz Ruben is the new toy). Can we please see some more analyses of how he can use the players we have at Man Utd in a 4 at the back formation becoz the Jan window wont see us dashing for new players. Key things I believe he has been briefed on is team and individual consistency, team work and cohesion for 90mins, cohesive pressing and scoring goals.
I also have in mind that with the new sporting structure in place we wanted to have the same style of play throughout the youth ranks. And going with ten Hag in the first place was a decision towards a back 4. If Amorim would go to a 3-4-2-1 with the first team, this would mean we have to change it for the u21 and u18 as well. That's why I could imagine that Amorim was asked to stay with our current formation and only shall look for the right adjustments/style of play to make this set up work.
Screw our explosive wingers. They are a major factor why this club has not adapted to modern football. We currently have selfish explosive wingers that create almost nothing for their strikers and are still extremely wasteful on top of it. Garnacho for eg wouldn't be allowed to play the way he does for us at any well run club. So wasteful, selfish and narrow minded in his way of play while the fanbase delude themselves and say he's got world class potential. The "united way" is another term that irks me. Explosive wingers always relying on transition nonsense at the expense of actual control in games. No wonder none of our fergie ex players became a world class manager. Even fergie started to alter thar style of play when he built his last great side. I for one would be extremely relieved when we ditch the explosive winger nonsense for more cultured wide creators that give us better balance and a more compact midfield.
The funny thing is, a back 4 usually turns into a 3 man defense in buildup, so nothing will change much. Ten has adopts that, our academy adopts that as well, most of the other coaches who play 4 at the back adopts that

We’ll just have to wait and see, but I’m a little more optimistic. I have doubts about Mainoo in the more defensive midfield role. I could honestly see him in the inside forward position. Awesome video. Earned a subscriber now. I think it’s good that Zirkzee is quite different from Hojlund. Hojlund is most likely going to run the channels and played when one on one whereas Zirkzee can drop deep and play the inside forwards through as a different tactical option. I don’t think it will be 100% copy and paste. I also think we will go with more defensive wingbacks first. I can also see De Ligt instead of Yoyo who is coming back from injury and young. Yoro would likely be RCB in the short turn.
Great video, I think Amorim seems like a step in the right direction but will need replacing within 3/4 years... which isn't great. I would be interested in whether Zirkzee could fit as one of those inside forwards. I think we'll go and take back Alvaro Fernandez ASAP and Garnacho can pivot into an impact sub for the time being. I imagine our striking options will be Hojlund, Rashford as an emergency option, and it could accelerate Chido Obi-Martin's progress in the squad.
Chido is a good option for this system. Zirksee could be one of the inside forwards yes, but would need to work harder off the ball to create passing options to receive.
Thanks for this great analysis. Really good work. I think the current Team deserves a fair Chance under Amorim before looking out for new, probably expensive Players
@@davidublin for his sake, I can only hope so. I really want to see him back at his best and not a meme. I mean, it's funny and all but I'm not sure he feels the same
Very interesting and insightful video, your pressing analysis was really enlightening! I would specifically push back on using Garnacho at the WB position, I don't think he's best suited there. My idea would be that you have Garnacho at the left forward position and Bruno/Mount on the right. I would also expect de Ligt to fill the CCB position as well, and Yoro at RCB with Dalot pushing up to RWB.
Amorim has a very strong base structure, but he's very open to what players individual characteristics bring to a specific position. Catamo plays as an inverted wing back because at his side he has Trincão, a winger playing on the inside attacking position. So when Catamo drives inside, Trincão takes his place on the wing to give width to the attack. On the other side Santos plays with Gonçalves who is an offensive central midfielder, more comfortable playing between the lines and who will not take the wing so often. What I mean is, Amorim will not just copy what he has done in Sporting and transfer it to the United. He will look at each player and will figure out what each set of qualities can bring to that structure and how it can be paired in the squad, so that the better characteristics are enhanced and the worst mitigated. He is very adaptable on the players despite the strong structure.
Great insight to Amorim, I hope that he has the confidence to drop the big name players he needs to and that we can get the players in he needs for his system. ETH had same excitement around him but after a few months said he wasn't going to bring Ajax football to united. Fingers crossed the gloomy days are at an end.
Your videos are awesome. Thank you - you’re really good at this. Personally, I think we need Garnacho closer to goal - he’s one of our few goal threats, don’t think we can afford for him to get shuffled to WB. Hope we play Bruno & Garnacho playing off Hojlund - at least that way there’s some goal threat in our front 3. If wingers need to become hard working shuttlers - then hope it’s Diallo or Anthony. Neither are top class wingers, so this could be a chance for them to reinvent themselves in finding a meaningful role at the top level. I recall Conte did something similar with Victor Moses when he was playing 3/5 at the back with Chelsea - take a less talented, but hard working winger, and let them be a big contributor from WB Finally… CM remains our biggest weakness - and Mainoo is awesome, but you’ve rightly questioned his engine before - hope Reuben can coach / educate him on perpetual movement needed in his role…!
Not sure I fully agree with Mazraoui playing CB, but one player you left out that i believe could thrive based on your analysis of the press is Mason Mount (probably in the role shown by Amad in your video). Very much enjoyed the breakdown!
Really good analysis, thanks. Thiugh one thing - I'm pretty sure rest defense refers to how the team set up in possession to nullify the risk of counter attacks, not how they set up out of possession.
Hi all! I get the questions around my use of “rest defending,” so I wanted to share my take on it. For me, “rest defending” reflects a team’s choice to sit deeper with a clear purpose: conserving energy while staying compact and organized. Instead of pressing high and chasing the ball, the team holds a disciplined shape, ready to absorb pressure and launch forward when the chance comes. It’s about controlled defense rather than passive play-an approach that balances solid structure with energy conservation. Thanks for the feedback, and always open to the conversation!
I’m really looking forward to Ruben’s style of play at our club, but one thing I’m not sure if his system is prepared for is playing against a low block. I know they play a lot of weaker Portuguese clubs at Sporting, but there are really structured, capable, low-block clubs in the Prem against the big boys. With that said, Ruben is still an extremely young manager/coach. He’s coming to the best league in the world. He’s going to learn a lot about himself & his structure being here. I think he’ll figure out how to adopt in due time.
I agree with several of your concerns about Ruben Amorim's potential impact on Manchester United. For example, the defensive demands on the wing-backs, as they are expected to be both offensively and defensively competent, also the effectiveness of Ugarte and Maino, in defending the number 10 space. I believe that the attacking midfielders currently at Manchester United are not suited to Amorim's style of play, which requires quick, direct passing and intelligent movement. My main concern is about the overall chaotic nature of Amorim's system, which may not be conducive to winning major trophies in Europe except very technical and exceptional players are brought in.
Really good analysis. The only thing I disagree with is Garnacho at the wide left. For me Garnacho should only be used there if we're behind and he comes off the bench to bring more attacking options in the game. But I think the standard should be a proper left wing back like Grimaldo, Davies, Dimarco, Theo or even Ait nouri.
Great video! I'm quite concerened with the Mainoo perspective in that setup, I think he is not dynamic enough for this style of play. I also think, mu will struggle physically, especially in the air with the type of squad you've shown, especially playing amad on the right wing. Someone like De Light will be crucial for the balance
Thanks for this content, you put it so much work and it’s clear to see:) One thing though, I could be mistaken but at about 5:00 or so, I think you’re using “rest defence” to mean “off the ball shape” whereas rest defence is your shape when you’re actually attacking I just thought I’d let you know in case anyone got confused

@@PythagorasinBoots no I completely understand why you would use the term that way, intuitively it makes more sense as we hear the word “rest” and think “Relaxation” - and that makes us think of not having the ball, so I’m with you there! HOWEVER, the term “rest defence” is a direct translation of the German word “restverteidigung” which means “remaining defence” or “left over defence” -> the “rest of the defence” We think of defence as when we don’t have the ball, however the idea with restverteidigung is that you look at the shape you take in possession to minimise the issues you’d have when you lose the ball. I.e, Pep inverting his fullbacks to midfield to make it more difficult for teams to play the ball through them in transition:) Like I said, I understand why you use that phrasing, it’s separating pressing from settling into a block if the first "active defensive phase" is unsuccessful. It makes complete sense in english. I just wanted to point out why its called that, where it came from, and if people who watch your content also watch the Tifo stuff, for example, or listen to other analytical football content, then rest defence will be used in a completely different context. If you want a random person's internet advice, id either 1) make it clear that you're using a different definition whenever you use the term, or 2) use a different term for your idea of rest-defence, like 'settled defence' for instance? Thanks for engaging in the conversation, its great that more people are interested in this sort of content, we need more fans like you and the ones in this community!

I don’t think it will be 100% copy and paste. I also think we will go with more defensive wingbacks first. I can also see De Ligt instead of Yoyo who is coming back from injury and young. Yoro would likely be RCB in the short turn.
Please do a recap on Amorim first game vs this vid as a reassessment as well!
Really enjoyed this breakdown. Great work and thorough analysis.
This is great mate absolute respect for all that
No worries
This is an outstanding analysis dude. Well done!
Appreciate it bud
Great video! Big thanks for your great analysis!
Best breakdown I have seen, this is awesome 👏
Wonderful Job well done. Very insightful and concise. I just subscribed to your channel. Really good work👍
Great vid, learned a lot, you're analysis are on another level ❤👌
The thought of Wirtz and Frimpong on the right...
Much appreciated!
This is fantastic work. They need you on sky sports analysis. 😎
Appreciate it
Good video there... I think mount would also be good as a inside forward he very hard working/pressing
Prime Mount yes
You are by far the best football analyst I’ve ever seen 🙌🏼🙌🏼 incredible work
Wow, thanks!
Great analysis as always. You has just earned yourself a patreon supporter.
Much appreciated!
Thanks for this great analysis. Really good work. I think the current Team deserves a fair Chance under Amorim before looking out for new, probably expensive Players
That was the best 30 minutes analysis of utd I've watched
That lineup at 17:00 would be very intriguing to see no bias just pure common sense. Amazing video man!
Great video very in depth and informative, only analysis i seen who gave a level positive and negative of the system top work my man
Antony seems like a good wingback option on the left
Just sell and get a proper left back goodness me
@@theusu7178 It's not fifa, they will struggle to find a buyer who will match his wages. He has already turned down opportunities to leave.
Inside forward could also work
Anthony looks similar style to Edwards, Anthony was a top prospect in brazil, there's a very slim chance for Anthony
@@davidublin for his sake, I can only hope so. I really want to see him back at his best and not a meme. I mean, it's funny and all but I'm not sure he feels the same
wow, amazing analysis, thank you!!!
No worries
I just found your channel. Absolutely top notch content!
Deserve a sub, great video.
This is some top stuff. Really energetic🤸♂
👔
Overall great video and insight. Keep up the good work👏🏾
I was overjoyed when I heard the words "all about servicing the CF" 😁
That strength of character and commitment to his system is so key
Your videos are awesome. Thank you - you’re really good at this.
Personally, I think we need Garnacho closer to goal - he’s one of our few goal threats, don’t think we can afford for him to get shuffled to WB.
Hope we play Bruno & Garnacho playing off Hojlund - at least that way there’s some goal threat in our front 3.
If wingers need to become hard working shuttlers - then hope it’s Diallo or Anthony. Neither are top class wingers, so this could be a chance for them to reinvent themselves in finding a meaningful role at the top level. I recall Conte did something similar with Victor Moses when he was playing 3/5 at the back with Chelsea - take a less talented, but hard working winger, and let them be a big contributor from WB
Finally… CM remains our biggest weakness - and Mainoo is awesome, but you’ve rightly questioned his engine before - hope Reuben can coach / educate him on perpetual movement needed in his role…!
Not sure I fully agree with Mazraoui playing CB, but one player you left out that i believe could thrive based on your analysis of the press is Mason Mount (probably in the role shown by Amad in your video). Very much enjoyed the breakdown!
Prime Mount would've been perfect!
Brilliant analysis as usual
Appreciate it
Simply the best breakdown on RUclips.
I appreciate that!
Pythag with a banger!
Well organized video.
Thank you 🙂
Great video ❤. You know your shit
Brilliant analysis.
Tremendous work
This video is so good that I think even Ruben Amorim should give it a quick watch.
Thanks for the feedback, and always open to the conversation!
great work..... you earned my subscription
Welcome aboard!
Great analysis. Would be interesting to see a player centered video, who will struggle and who will thrive in this system and why
Great analysis, I would love to see that first 11.
Excellent analysis. 😊
Thank you kindly!
Great content bro. Keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
We don't deserve you, man!, your work is top tier!🔥🔥🔥
I appreciate that!
Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video!
I'm quite concerened with the Mainoo perspective in that setup, I think he is not dynamic enough for this style of play. I also think, mu will struggle physically, especially in the air with the type of squad you've shown, especially playing amad on the right wing. Someone like De Light will be crucial for the balance
Mainoo is a very naturally physical player so idk what you’re talking about. Might struggle in the air but it’s not like he can’t improve
Good point!
This one is top class nobody comes close this even after 5 minutes
Appreciate it bud
This is be a great opportunity to see if the players can play a demanding system or same old same old.
Agreed
It's interesting to bring Reijnders to "How good is" the perfomance against Madrid was surreal
Thanks for this content, you put it so much work and it’s clear to see:)
One thing though, I could be mistaken but at about 5:00 or so, I think you’re using “rest defence” to mean “off the ball shape” whereas rest defence is your shape when you’re actually attacking
I just thought I’d let you know in case anyone got confused

@@PythagorasinBoots no I completely understand why you would use the term that way, intuitively it makes more sense as we hear the word “rest” and think “Relaxation” - and that makes us think of not having the ball, so I’m with you there!
HOWEVER, the term “rest defence” is a direct translation of the German word “restverteidigung” which means “remaining defence” or “left over defence” -> the “rest of the defence”
We think of defence as when we don’t have the ball, however the idea with restverteidigung is that you look at the shape you take in possession to minimise the issues you’d have when you lose the ball. I.e, Pep inverting his fullbacks to midfield to make it more difficult for teams to play the ball through them in transition:)
Like I said, I understand why you use that phrasing, it’s separating pressing from settling into a block if the first "active defensive phase" is unsuccessful.
I think some players will benefit from Amorim- Bruno should enjoy playing in that half winger half 10 role, but equally it will be interesting to see how Garnacho or Diallo fit in
best amorim's tactical guide.Genuis stuff
You're the best, Pythagoras, keep up the great work!😀
Are these unique tactics, or are they copied from e.g. Mourinho?
Thanks, will do!
