agreed - listens to their points and makes intelligent ones of his own. I'm just gutted Jamie cut him off before he could explain what he really thinks of Hojlund lol
Yeah man. I loved Dimi as a player, and he has always struck me as a thinking man's footballer, so I've always been curious to hear his tactical analysis.
I really liked berbatov rather than the usual neville and carragher because he has a great football brain and understands a lot more, i think about the progressive attacking formations, etc. Plus, he has a bit of style about him and that aura that made him a great player
There hasn't been the usual Neville combo for over a year on MNF - always a guest typically. Think they did one show together at the start of the season.
Gary Neville knows a lot more than Carragher. There is NO way it will work out with Garnacho on the left side. It will be Dalot for sure - or that he and Mazraoui will play there and Amad on the right. I actually think that he won't use Rashford either. He does not fit centrally at all. Both him and Garnacho should be sold
Sure 🙄 if it by ‘killing it’, you mean: (nod)….(silence)…(nod)… ‘I think Shaw IF he’s fit,is gonna be better suited and he can do that as well…🥱. Whatever mate; he’s never gonna be fit ! It baffles me that Shaw is spoken about with such high regard. You’re better off leaving him in the reserves !
Im with Dimitar, Garnacho aint gonn work as a wing-back, not in his current situation. We saw a prime example vs Chelsea, when old-man Casemiro had to sprint back to cover him and Garna was barely at the halfway line... Casemiro was rightly furious afterwards.
As a Sporting CP fan I see Diallo doing that part a lot, he presses while in attack and in Sporting 3 of our wingbacks are former wingers: Geovany Quenda, Geny Catamo and Nuno Santos, we have the midfielders helping in defence when the wide backs are in attack until they get back at position, if he doesn't have cofidence in the players he might implement a RB/LB in one side and a RWB/LWB in the other, to maintain defensive coession, it was his model of defence for 3 of our 4 years together. Wishing him and United luck, always sensed a connection between clubs because of Ronaldo, Nani and now Bruno hoep for the best Saudações Leoninas 💚💚
Garnacho will do something similar to Pote, play as a winger and then moving to the middle as a false number 10, probably sitting rashford or putting bruno back in the midfield
its better to place rashford as full striker... bruno and garnacho behind him.... amad diallo as left wing back...mazaroui as right wing back...rest is good
Some details that may interest United fans: 1. Amorim was coached for many years by Jorge Jesus, one of the best Portuguese managers of all time, known for his tactical qualities and obsession with perfect gameplay, though often criticized for his communication. The apprentice may have surpassed the master, as Amorim’s communication is widely praised. 2. He was also trained by Mourinho (as staff) and Carlos Queiroz (as player on national team) and was a teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo (national team). 3. Amorim has coached three clubs with a 3-4-3 formation, continually adding new dynamics adapted to his squad and well-understood by his players. 4. Although he had already coached three clubs, he served as an assistant coach because he lacked the credentials to be a head coach. He only gained these credentials months after being acquired by Sporting Clube de Portugal from Braga for a fee between 10 and 15 million euros. 5. At Braga, Amorim joined mid-season and started by winning the League Cup. In just a few months, he defeated the three biggest clubs in the league, including away games against Porto (with Luis Diaz) and Benfica (with Ruben Dias), and launched Trincão, who was later sold to Barcelona for a record fee for Braga. 6. In his first year at SCP, he won the league and the League Cup. He showed great skill in creating team cohesion, identifying necessary talent, and communicating with calmness, ambition, and unity. He sold the most expensive players (out of necessity) and focused on cheaper and academy players. The impact of empty stadiums in 2020 and being out of international competitions (eliminated in the Europa League playoffs) is unclear, as rivals lost many points. His football style relied heavily on counterattacks, prioritizing a solid defense, team cooperation, and fighting to the last minute. This counter-attacking style also benefited from opponents’ high pressing against Sporting. After many years, SCP’s gameplay dynamics were well-defined and understood by the players. 7. In his second year, with more respect from opponents and the need to play in international competitions, without the financial ability to expand the squad as needed, he did not win the championship but increased his points tally, improved the quality of play, won the Supercup and League Cup, and reached the Champions League Round of 16 (a record). The Champions League run was possibly less positive due to the inexperience of the squad (and the coaching staff) in this competition. 8. The third year was the worst, with no trophies and a fourth-place finish. Amorim was promised that selling certain key players would allow them to keep Matheus Nunes, a fundamental player in his preseason strategy. Nunes’ last-minute sale, combined with the injury of another midfielder, caused adjustment issues, which Amorim himself admitted took him too long to adapt to. As a result, many points were lost in a difficult start to the league and Champions League, mainly due to inefficiency. He finished fourth but with increasingly better football, defeating Arsenal in the Europa League Round of 16 and narrowly losing to Juventus in the quarters. He announced that if he didn’t win the league the following year, he would leave SCP at no cost. 9. In the fourth year, management redeemed itself with greater financial capacity, focusing on a select few targeted signings (including Gyokeres) and attempting to retain the main players. Amorim and his young coaching staff (ages 28 and 29) improved their play. They continued developing new dynamics, starting attacks from the goalkeeper, but with more offensive wingers and a 4-man press (one wingback pushing up), instead of a 3-man press, which had shown inefficiencies in certain games (Ajax, Marseille, City, Atalanta). The new dynamics and improved roster have led to some of the best football Sporting has played in decades, dominating most games, including big matches (even those they lost). In the Europa League, they were eliminated in a close Round of 16 match by Atalanta, who went on to win the tournament. 10. This year, they lost the Supercup after leading Porto 3-0 in a match where they were the superior team. Since then, they have been unbeaten, winning all ten league matches convincingly, including against Porto, winning in the domestic cups, and drawing only one Champions League game against fellow unbeaten PSV. They were missing a key player (Pote) in that match and initially tried an alternate strategy, which proved ineffective. Once corrected, SCP improved and nearly mounted a comeback. It was also an unusual match, with SCP players slipping often, including on a clear goal-scoring chance. They have otherwise beaten Lille (who defeated Real Madrid) and recently defeated City. He arrived in 2020 at a 'graveyard for managers' - a club that hadn’t won the league in 19 years, that usually lost to its direct rivals, and was in a climate of total instability between fans and management, financially drained due to player resignations following fans' invasion of the academy. Now, he leaves celebrated and applauded by all, including fans and rivals. He’s adored by all players, from regular starters to less-used ones, and communicates assertively and calmly. On press conferences, he always avoided discussing referees decisions, focusing on the technical side of the game, sharing credit for victories with the coaching staff and taking responsibility for defeats. For example, on corners and free kicks, he sits on the bench, and his young assistant gives instructions. He’s never been hesitant to replicate and acknowledge strategies from other coaches, like including corners in warm-ups, a practice adopted by FC Porto’s Sérgio Conceição. He’s not perfect. Some experiments and requested players didn’t go so well. He’s strict about maintaining the 3-4-3 formation. For example, if he needs to be more offensive, he prefers to place a traditional full-back as a center-back rather than change the tactical setup to two center-backs. On the other hand, if he needs to be more defensive, he places a typical full-back or even a center-back in the wing-back position. For this reason, he has players in the squad with different characteristics that allow him to prepare and manage each game according to the opponent. Sometimes, when the team has a player sent off, it becomes frustrating that he doesn’t break up the line of three center-backs. He leaves us, Sporting fans, with a championship-winning club, with money, and leading in all competitions. FU Man United XD.
@@slicklol Thank you, I'm glad you agree. This was translated on ChatGPT, so it might not be entirely accurate. It may also be incomplete. As a Sporting fan, what I observed was a coaching team with a lot of potential and continuous evolution, but one that needs time to show its worth. At SCP, they benefited from an extended preseason, which included the end of the 2019/2020 season (where they lost third place to Braga), and a first season with a lot of training time, as they were eliminated in the Europa League qualifying playoffs. If it's similar, United fans should be patient and evaluate Rúben based on what he accomplishes in the 2025/2026 season, rather than this season. It’s only next season that he will have the time to instill his processes (such as the pressing style and the offside line), will have the right players suited to his approach and will know his players' characteristics better. I believe that in that season, Manchester United will win almost every game at Old Trafford.
And don't forget about the portuguese corruption. No one takes the portuguese league seriusly. At least not me that's why i watch the Premier League, Bundesliga or la liga. But of course that's just me.
Im from Portugal and also a Sporting supporter. One of the things i like most of Ruben Amorin´s way of coaching is the way the team pressures after losing the ball. Usually it takes only 4 or 5 seconds until the oposite player has 1 or 2 on top of him to take the ball back. That earned us many wins even when we were not playing so well. Man Utd players better learn how to put the effort on that aspect quickly otherwise they wont play. Ruben doenst mess around on that.
@myowntolisten2824 i think United has a very mid range team. You guys need a revamp on the squad. I think Ruben is the right man for the job. He doesn't care for names. He cares for hard work.
@@myowntolisten2824 Rashford was told by Ten Hag to be the last man for the counter threat. Digging him out for his workrate is unfair even if he's not switched on defensively. Plenty of other culprits who are worse imo
@@ANGELOFDARKificationIt's not unfair at all he's on 300k a week. Move your ass, that's the first thing you can get good at. If he gets booted coz he can't hack it so be it
saying de ligt cant cover the wide areas is a horrible take against Real madrid last season he was marking Vinicius and did really well to keep him quiet majority of the game.
These pundits dont watch football, just highlights. they still think De Ligt and Maguire are the same players. Meanwhile one is 25 and nimble while the other is 31 and is nicknamed slabhead. De Ligt reads the game well which is why his defensive numbers are at a high level (% duels wons, tackles and interceptions) but because he isnt rapid i guess that means he is slow? I would bet my bottom dollar De Ligt is faster than Martinez, yet Jaime has no issues with Martinez at LCB but De Ligt would be a problem due to pace? Rdiculous.
there's also Amass who will find life a lot easier as a wing back than a full back on the left right is completely covered with Dalot (who's weakness really is just defending) and Mazraoui left is the only iffy part and even there we've got a few options for Amorim
Feels like all the people hyping up Amorim because of his success in Portugal completely forget that Eric Ten Hag took over an Ajax side that had lost the previous god knows how many titles to PSV and Feyenoord and took them to 4 consecutive league titles in his 4 years there and a Champions League semi final, destroying title holders Real Madrid in the process. Talk about domestic success. And he still failed miserably at United.
I remember Ajax fans at the time not being too bothered when Ten Hag left them. On the other hand, I've seen plenty of Sporting fans saying they don't want Amorim to leave! It might mean nothing, but let's see.
Well said mate. This guy is nothing more than a prospect. I hope I am wrong and he is the man to lead them forward and I will be the first to admit I was wrong but I can only see more hard times for utd.
ten hag failed because he was a coward and abandoned his principles that brought him glory at ajax and tried to coach a different style. think of it as ten hag playing the ajax way rather than him making ajax play his way
@@nehalcm 'coward' is a bit strong - he was just trying to work with what he had to steady the ship, probably was slightly overwhelmed by the size of the job, and things went south a miserable end but we won a couple trophies along the way so it wasn't all bad
Ajax also tripled their wage bill between 2018 and 2021 which went from 3rd highest in the league in 2017 to the highest with double the amount of the 2nd place team and dwarfed everyone else in the league. It can't be compared to what Amorim did at Sporting.
Its unfortunate. Shaw is a good player when he plays. But its better to cut ties now. He plays for 1 month is injured for the rest 11 months and that sums up his season. Its been the same story for like 5-6 years now. Unfortunate but all parties should move on. We need someone like Evra who can play 50-60 games a season at top intensity.
Yep, Amass had a good pre season, He should get a chance to show what he can do otherwise best to cash in. Luke shaw is a ghost, no point bringing his name up.
Yes. He's been written off as a one trick pony and fairly so but his work ethic when tracking back is immense. If the lad can put balls into the box on the left, he'd be incredible. By no means as good as him but I'm thinking Marcelo at Madrid. Anthony has that trickery and is decent enough with short passing.
Love to see Berba coming out and appearing on public media more these days. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience there to hear from. Personally, as a United fan from before the Fergie era, I'm ok with writing this season off so long as we don't get dragged into a relegation battle. Qualifying for Europe, even if it's the Conference League, would be a bonus for me. But but but......the big but, for writing this season off to be acceptable and profitable, Amorim's style and ideas must be fully ingrained in the players and the team by the end of the season so that come next season, maybe with a couple of additions that the head coach wants, we can see the full benefits and potential of Amorim's style and clearly see his fingerprints on the way United play.
you havent got a clue if you think Ten Hag had no style or ideas. The players were too poor to do them effectively. Stop parotting everything you hear from clowns like Neville and Ferdinand
As a Liverpool fan, I agree with you. Liverpool signed Klopp in October 2015. The club finished in 8th place at the end of the season. But, he'd impacted his style, and it was reinforced when he started making new signings. And they adapted quickly to his playing style. Manchester United players need that to improve.
One of the most interesting things about this line-up from Jamie is having Rashford and Garnacho playing together on the left wing. Because both of them prefer the left wing and it's been a sticking point for ages as to which one of them plays there. And thinking about it now, I seem to remember seeing both of them on the same side for a few minutes here and there in the last one or two games... Maybe it's just a coincidence, or maybe it's a tweak Ruud made, but it is an ingenious solution to the "problem".
Honestly speaking one player that will be perfect for either of the wing back positions would be Anthony and this is why he is the only winger ive seen with a weird combo of high defensive work rate and a mid attacking work rate. He has the energy to go up and down the pitch he has the speed i really think he would be good for this system
@@melvinost8272 Dalot is more of a wingback than Mazraoi. 100% Garnacho shouldn't be playing wingback. Maguire should start over De Light in the center role. Jamie knows what a 3-4-2-1 looks like, but does he know how the coach likes to play. From what I understand, Amorim changes roles according to the players he has.
@@melvinost8272Why do people think he will absolutely play 3-4-3. It is like analyzing conte's tactics before he joined napoli and he ended up playing 4-3-3
Why appoint a manager if you are going to have him play a different system/style that he's not been using? Conte has primarily used a 343 or 352 formation throughout his career. While it's true that you can only work with the players available to you, Manchester United needs an identity they can implement and build upon. Under Amorim, this seems to be the approach INEOS favours. It also looks like this has been in the works, hence the signings of Ugarte, De Ligt, Yoro and links of Davies
Catamo and Pedro Gonçalves are both right footers on the left side so I don't think that's really a problem, but we also have Nuno Santos and now maxi who are left footers. Flexibility is key
@@DodgyDezexactly but people keep thinking Rashford and Garnacho can miraculously play as AMFs beinfmd the striker. Garnacho can learn but Rashford either CF or sell him
12:46 - 13:41 The most important point in this video. Ruben has GOT to stick to his principles. I've had enough of this adapting to the players thing. There's got to be enough versatility in this squad and these players, to be able to coach them into a new system. From what I can see, we already have a descent squad and interesting player profiles to fit Ruben's way of playing. Yes there's work to do, also in the upcoming windows, but i think we've got something interesting and a good match here. GGMU
dont think sticking to principles means he has to stick to that exact formation though. pep has changed formations many many times throughout the years but his principles always remained the same
@@nehalcm Never said he have to. As you say, ground principles can remain the same in different formations. I am not a master tactician, so it's not for me to answer if he should stick to something like the 3-4-2-1 etc. That is for Ruben Amorim to figure out. But the point stands, for me he's got to stick to HIS principles. I think we agree on that tho.
yeah and tbf in his press conferences he talks about being able to do things his way due to the state the club is in right now so hopefully that’s a good sign
2 losses in a row and you get the media hounding the manager like when Neville and Carragher drove up to Manchester to interrogate Ten Hag. Doesn't happen to any other team.
Amorim will used 3-4-3, the players will adopt to his system, like he did in other teams. don't worry about wing players, he will pick up young kids that will embrace the challenge to running all over defence and attack. He knows that position is very demanding, for that will try to have 4 good wings with a lot of speed and dribbling skills and substituted them during the games.
You’re worried he will struggle without possession? Go watch 20/21 Sporting (Rubens first full season btw) and see how we played. Solid and compact defense, allowing the least chances possible and then charging forward in the counter attack. We were champions that year. Ruben basically proved he can win it with or without the ball. He adapts his style of play depending on the players he has available. Believe me, he’ll never change the system. He may adapt it, changing how he plays, but the 3 CBs will always be there. Also, he usually uses an attacking wing back on one side, almost like a winger, and a defensive one on the other. Also, the two “wide” players in the attack are not wingers, they are like 10s, drifting inside either to create chances to put the striker in front of goal, or to create spaces for the wing backs/striker to go wide and make runs. From what I have seen at Sporting for the last 5 years, I believe this is how he’ll set up Man U: Onana (GK) Dalot (RCB) De Ligt (CCB) Lisandro (LCB) Amad (RWB) Ugarte (CDM) Mainoo (CM) Shaw (LWB) Rashford (10) Bruno (10) Hojlund (ST) The only position where I have some doubts is Striker, because Amorim loved Paulinho, who was a striker very similar to Zirkzee, however Hojlund is closer to Gyokeres, who proved to be more effective last year.
9:15 out of possession it’s still 3-4-3 or more commonly a 3-5-2 with one of the 10s dropping in. If u play one Fb and one winger you could switch to a 4 in defence quite easily as well, but anyways that’s ruben’s job to find what will suit us best with the players available.
That's what's he has done a lot of times, one defesive minded wing back and a winger on the ohter side, you go to a 4 4 2 defending into a 3 2 5 atacking
For the rival fans: This system can be very dangerous because with most PL teams pressing high up the pitch and this system cutting out long balls, there might be very little in terms of getting away. They might concede possession a lot till these players learn to control the ball under pressure.
I don't think Amorim will use these tactics at United, at least not in the first few matches. Ten Hag couldn't successfully coach a second or third tactical plan once the other 19 managers figured out the best way to nullify his primary tactics, and that's why he failed at United. If Amorim is as flexible as he's talented, he will be a roaring success.
There are so many parallels with the Chelsea team of Conte that can be made here 1. Fabregas - Bruno conundrum 2. Victor Moses transitioning to a wing back
Absolutely love these new segments of Carragher explaining in detail certain topics. Really shows off his knowledge and i believe deserves a coaching spot somewhere
Listen the back 3 idea is really bad. If he doesn't get instant results, toxic media and fans will call him out. Ten hag tried his Ajax possession style with the counter attack players he inherited from ole and Jose and it completely backfired. Most managers after Sir Alex have come with their own philosophy, but end up reverting back to counter attack.
I don't think Garnacho can and will even want to play wingback. He lacks the discipline and has no defensive nous. The only other option(given that Shaw and Malacia are always on the treatment table) would be to play Dalot as RWB and Garnacho as LWB.
especially given his inflated ego as of late, the guy sulked for 20 mins straight playing RW against chelsea so that he could get moved back to the left
@@nehalcm typical of Man Utd - the attitudes of those players stinks. Casemiro has only started showing up again cus he's heard he's not in Amorim's plans
ETH was our last manager. He did say eras end. I was not expecting it to be the end of the Manchester United Manager title along with him Again, thank you Erik for setting up the foundation for RA
DON'T PUT GARNACHO as defender. Instead, Ruben Amorim will bring a player that he knows very well to that position. His name is ESGAIO, an amazing right back defender that can be a gamechanger for Manchester United🔥🔥
Ragnick had a style of play. It lasted 45 minutes against Palace. Ten Hag had a style of play. It lasted 2 games after losing 0-4 to Brentford. Amorim will try a 3-4-3 then realise Bruno won’t work in it, Garnacho won’t track back (see Chelsea last Sunday). Cue the videos from “pundits” bemoaning Amorim’s lack of a style of play
really like berbatov here! i think his attacking expertise really helps and shows, seems to be a perfect balance for punditry to have at least one previous defender and attacker each
I am. Seeing Carragher say it takes specialists on wide positions makes me laugh. Amorim used defenders on that position from the start, but then progressively he started to use 1 more offensive and today against City we had 2 wingers. The 2 guys that Carragher put in here: one is winger from Mozambique and was on a loan at the start and then he tested it and guess what...scored two against Benfica playing on the right and being a left footed player and gave us the last championship. The other one who Carragher had and also played today is Quenda who is...17 and is the biggest attacking prospect Sporting had for a lot of years. He started the first game of the season and scored despite having a lot of defensive runs. He is still learning but Amorim trusts him enough to play him against City. The wingers need to know how to play there and they need to be humble enough to know that position, run a lot (something Sporting did more then City today) and have their chances when they attack. This tactic takes time but it crazy good when is settled and the players embrace the coaches ideas. Good scouting makes the rest.
@@kcjones89Garnacho might be quality in a few years but right now he’s dead average. Give him 10 chances (like Bruno does every fking game) and he’ll score 1 at most, has no killer instinct in front of goal.
Berbatov did a really good job here. Carragher had made a good stab at predicting what Amorim will do. Bottom line will be that United don't seem to have good enough players in some key positions. Full/wing backs are average at best when you compare with top European sides. You could easily see a coaching switching to 3-4-3 at Liverpool for example and it working perfectly with Robertson and TAA.
Truly love Berbatov's insight. For me he's a breath of fresh air. Hopefully we'll see far more of him giving his views on here. Makes a nice refreshing change to hear someone else's opinion rather than the usual pundits. For me personally I'd like to see this line up under Amorim Onana Yoro De Ligt Martinez Amad Ugarte Mainoo Mazraoui Bruno Rashford/Garnacho Hojlund
Jamie is absolutely spot on here by the way I’ve seen flow balance in Amorim since Braga he will not use a fixed approach he will put on a player if the player next to him completes him so if he has an attacking winger he ll have a more defensive midfield , get excited united fans 🇵🇹
Being a 40 year old-man and a Benfica fan i still remember how good Ruben played in that midfield! He was by far one of the intelligent players i've ever seen in a football pitch! Why? Because he could do (and did) 4 or 5 positions on and around that midfield and always deliver a consistent and impactful performance. If not for his injuries he would've been one of the very best portuguese players for a long time! As a coach? What can i say? He's just the same! A brilliant guy that knows what is needed to be done and understand how it can be done! A true professional and an overall great loss for the Portuguese League!... I'm just sad he coached Sporting instead of Benfica🤣 If there is one advice i can give to Manchester United is to please give him time and control. This is the time when Manchester United has to chose between just keep living on their past history, or build a new project upon that history with a new one, where egos and past glory are put aside for a reality-check that i'm sure will bring a much brighter future with new titles. Either the bosses of the club want to win titles (and Ruben is more than capable of delivering that eventually) or they chose mediocrity.
That's what they are saying will he turn up like eth and rip up his plans and tactics that got him the job and have no style of play at all or will be force his style of play on the players and figure out who can and can't play it and buy and sell accordingly because that worked with pep conte mourinho klopp etc who all came from different leagues they was dominating in with a specific style of play
Hard to judge him in terms of his energy and pace because that midfield has been wide open and he has been asked to cover huge spaces since he's been in the team. Every midfielder played in there over the last 18 months has looked slow and leggy if you think about it.
If we analyze Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Sporting in 2019, we can first observe that he changed the team’s formation to a back five, which significantly improved the team defensively. We also noticed that they conceded very few goals, meaning he started with the defensive process. Over the following seasons, he has made changes over time until reaching this season, where he maintained the defensive level but aims to score many goals and apply high pressure, something he did not do in his first season at Sporting. That said, I think he will approach Manchester United in the same way. First, he will seek to stabilize the squad and, over time, improve while maintaining the defensive process but with a focus on goals and pressure. PLEASE ANALYZE Sporting in the first season and the following seasons (despite finishing 4th in one of the seasons), he has been improving and rectifying certain aspects of the football played.
Eth did an amazing job CONSIDERING the situation around him. From players to media he had to deal still managed a 3rd league finish and carabao cup. Next season with a injury crisis yet a fa cup And the comparison in 0:12. How can they compare pl with Portugal league ? Both league have different mix of teams, one having liverpool, arsenal, man city and one having Porto etc. It may be easy to have 1st place in easy league than pl. And in defense of Eth, I want to say that look at man utd place on the chart specially the chances made( xG) and goals scored. My question is does chances just appears simply? Doesn't tactics have a role in making chances ? Then who's tactics were they ? And now look at goals scored. No matter how professional the tactics are, scoring is as basic as it is. If players don't score, attacking tactics will be wasted. Players have to score in the end. The chart says much about the situation. In the mixes of good teams, the utd standing on chart is actually some-what impressing besides goals scored. Specially the xG and xG against(which i think is expected goals againt utd which is a defensive stat)
He was giving a solution to getting garnacho on the pitch. I dont hate the 11 and formation against weaker sides where Man U would have more possession. Against tough opponents though would need a real defender there.
@@BezzyyBezzUnited have good players, in the system that Jamie set up, you need to replace Rashford with Garnacho and get a left winger on the market that can (and is willing to) do the LWB role.
The 343 of Sporting in the field is more like an 325 in disguise. You don't need too many in the back if you press well in the front, they'll lose the ball even before going to the second part of their counter. And if they succeed in the counter, they still need to face 2 midfielders and 3 defenders, that's the 5 biggest fellas in the back. Now for this you need versatile players like Pote who can work as shadow forward, but #8 as well and close in the midfield area. Then, you need one tank in the midfield - Hjulmand/Ugarte - and one who carries the ball - Bragança/Morita. I can see Amorim swapping the full backs, a left foot on the right and a right foot on the left. It depends on the opponents at the time. We won the 2020/21 title because we basically had two beasts on the wings: Pedro Porro and Nuno Santos. They could go up and down for 90' without blinking. In this season each one played on their own side, right foot on the right, and vice-versa, the idea of switching full backs came later because Amorim started to give inside playing the attention it needed as well. Just watch the first Sporting goal against Man City, it's the right full back with the left foot who passes through the defense, that would be much more difficult for a right foot player. Not sure if I see Bruno Fernandes has one of the three forwards, as he's too slow. I see him right beside Ugarte dominating the midfield and have two faster wingers in the front - Rashford and another (both with goals). ps: Antony will be the new Trincão
I like Amorim as a coach, he's tactical, I'm really excited to see him get started. What I'm not ready for? To see which of my favourite players hit the bench with this new system. 😂
At around 11:53 the European fixture graphic is wrong. It's under the green Europa Conference League symbol and not the orange one for the Europa League
I've a lot of analysis videos of Amorin tactics and not one has suggested Bruno in the 8 and have Ugarte in the back 3 since one of them inverts into midfield anyways. Then you could have you normal back 4 in a ways, and you can still play your attackers in their positions because we can't have 5 or 6 wingers and have only 1 of them start
Ruben should Get Manchester United to Play in a 4-3-3 Formation. Promote Young Players like Amass, Jackson, Baumann, Tyler (Fletcher), Jack (Fletcher), Lacey and Biancheri into the Squad and get rid of Onana, De Ligt, Martinez, Antony, Dalot, Eriksen, Fernandes, Zirkzee, Lindelof and Maguire.
as a Sporting CP fan, I think Rúben in the middle want a player o got a good possession with a ball, like Erikson, Fernandes to, in the defensive Bruno can't do well, but offensive is the best in the team, so what I can see is Onana Lindelof, De Ligt and Martinez Mazraoui Ugarte and Bruno Dalot Garnacho Hojlund and Rashford
Utd should consider going back in for Chilwell. Wondering if Casemiro, or Diallo can play at wing back until they can sign a new player. Amorim also played with Marcus Edwards in his front 3 and uses wingers in his front 3 as well as notoriously gives young players a chance over underperforming senior players so I’m quite sure we’re all wrong on what he will do.
@ I’m a Chelsea fan :) In fairness Chilly is fully fit for months now that he isn’t doing Pochetinos training. That’s why we had players injured in double figures most of last season and now we have only 1. Chilly would be a good squad player for Utd when fit but most teams now play with inverted fullbacks instead of wingbacks. You could get 20 games a season out of him if you don’t play him 3-4 games in a row and rotate him like Chelsea do with Reece James and Fofana. They only play premier league games and nothing else.
The answer to berbatov. As a Sporting Fan, the wingbacks are a major role in amorims system. In sporting, at right wing back, he always puts a right footed player to play as "inverted winger" there who is attacking minded, good on the ball and 1x1... of course he does have to defens but compared to the otherside, at Left wing back, he uses a an actual LWB, not inverted, and what tens to happen is, when the other team is in transition what happens is, That LWB tends to join the and create a back 4. The Inverted RWB can also often do that depending which wide the opposition is attacking.
I think from what I’ve seen Amorim prefers his full backs to be more like wingers but the main issue is that garnacho is right footed so he would more likely play on the right wing back role for crosses rather than cutting inside but we will see
Bloody hell they are milking this. Even as a United fan, can we just shut up and let him get on with it

😮casemiro shown up as super slow Scott would have got that ball
Garnacho will do something similar to Pote, play as a winger and then moving to the middle as a false number 10, probably sitting rashford or putting bruno back in the midfield
its better to place rashford as full striker... bruno and garnacho behind him.... amad diallo as left wing back...mazaroui as right wing back...rest is good
Signing this coach this season for me is an error
Let's see what good will come out of him
Some details that may interest United fans:
This is such a good comment…

Rdiculous.

Ajax also tripled their wage bill between 2018 and 2021 which went from 3rd highest in the league in 2017 to the highest with double the amount of the 2nd place team and dwarfed everyone else in the league. It can't be compared to what Amorim did at Sporting.
Amass may be better at LWB than any other player. Shaw is always injured
Shaw is done. Better to forget him
Its unfortunate.

@@HappyBob701 Bob doesn’t sound very happy.
Couple of additions? You're having a laugh. The whole squad needs to see the door
I agree. I think the biggest miracle amorim can do isn't qualifying for Europe or winning a cup.. it's making this lot run during an actual match 😂

My god you really are milking this considering you know absolutely zilch about Amorim, his tactics or the Portuguese league
Jamie's analysis seemed pretty astute. What did he get wrong exactly?
Why milking pundits? Let them do their jobs. And what's your analysis then?
@@melvinost8272 Dalot is more of a wingback than Mazraoi. 100% Garnacho shouldn't be playing wingback. Maguire should start over De Light in the center role.

But the point stands, for me he's got to stick to HIS principles. I think we agree on that tho.
yeah and tbf in his press conferences he talks about being able to do things his way due to the state the club is in right now so hopefully that’s a good sign
@@nehalcm Yes exactly. Fingers crossed.
From what I have seen at Sporting for the last 5 years, I believe this is how he’ll set up Man U:
Onana (GK)
Dalot (RCB) De Ligt (CCB) Lisandro (LCB)
Amad (RWB) Ugarte (CDM) Mainoo (CM) Shaw (LWB)
Rashford (10) Bruno (10)
Hojlund (ST)
The only position where I have some doubts is Striker, because Amorim loved Paulinho, who was a striker very similar to Zirkzee, however Hojlund is closer to Gyokeres, who proved to be more effective last year.
For more context, Man utd's top scorer in this season,
is Garnacho with 2 goals.
And that penalty goal from Bruno was his first of many.

Antony knows how to track back 🔥
9:15 out of possession it’s still 3-4-3 or more commonly a 3-5-2 with one of the 10s dropping in.
Bulgarian Berbatov speaks better English than British Carragher 😂
No he doesn’t
No he doesn't
Just because you can't understand Carragher's accent, that doesn't make his English worse. Stay in school.
There are so many parallels with the Chelsea team of Conte that can be made here
1. Fabregas - Bruno conundrum
2. Victor Moses transitioning to a wing back
If we play a winger at LWB then Antony - high work rate & left footed - maybe he could improve
Such a vibe, great atmosphere in this vid!

Nice to see cool legend Berbatov, giving intelligent analysis and insights …oh I love his McQueen shoes too
Absolutely love these new segments of Carragher explaining in detail certain topics. Really shows off his knowledge and i believe deserves a coaching spot somewhere
On top off that,i think he needs to call players back from international duty for assessment.
The only other option(given that Shaw and Malacia are always on the treatment table) would be to play Dalot as RWB and Garnacho as LWB.

ahah boa piada
I cried every time Berba mentioned Shaw. Like we can’t still be having serious conversations and mentioning Shaw.
Best 11 when all fully fit for a 3-4-3 - Onana, Martinez, De Ligt, Yoro, Shaw, Ugarte, Mainoo, Mazraoui, Mount, Hoijland, Bruno
💯💯💯 We need to move away from selfish wingers
Onana - Yoro Deligt Shaw - Dalot Ugarte Bruno Antony - Mount Amad Hojlund
Dalot is crap compared to Maz
Finally somebody appreciating Mount
very slow team
Ragnick had a style of play. It lasted 45 minutes against Palace. Ten Hag had a style of play. It lasted 2 games after losing 0-4 to Brentford. Amorim will try a 3-4-3 then realise Bruno won’t work in it, Garnacho won’t track back (see Chelsea last Sunday). Cue the videos from “pundits” bemoaning Amorim’s lack of a style of play
Can you get Hazard to the MNF studio?
They tried but he got injured walking out his front door
But he still got the label of being "too good for playing in the Premier League"..
@@Ched241😂😂😂
really like berbatov here! i think his attacking expertise really helps and shows, seems to be a perfect balance for punditry to have at least one previous defender and attacker each
I agree with Berbatov bring Victor from sporting
Who’s here after sporting defeating Man City
Good scouting makes the rest.
lately Casemiro and even Onana giving better passes than Fernandez
Would be interesting to see those league comparisons along with Ten Hag's when he was at Ajax though.
they seriously need to replace Garnacho and Rashford
Garnacho is quality what are you on about
@@kcjones89Garnacho might be quality in a few years but right now he’s dead average. Give him 10 chances (like Bruno does every fking game) and he’ll score 1 at most, has no killer instinct in front of goal.
@@martinhoferreira4502actually blows my mind how people can watch 90mins of football every week and think Bruno fernandes is a good footballer.

You guys keep on forgetting it’s a different league all together
Same sport though 🤷
Not a Farmers League@@patrickmullins7981
🤡
Dolot is perfect for the wingback position - up and down, no problem - pace for recovery - has a decent touch and loves to get forward
The four keys players are Quenda,Catamo,Trincao,Pote. The way they atack and defend too, similar to Man United, who they are,, from a sporting fan.
Do you want a medal for being a sporting fan or something? What a weird way to end a message

Truly love Berbatov's insight. For me he's a breath of fresh air. Hopefully we'll see far more of him giving his views on here. Makes a nice refreshing change to hear someone else's opinion rather than the usual pundits. For me personally I'd like to see this line up under Amorim
Onana
Yoro De Ligt Martinez
Amad Ugarte Mainoo Mazraoui
Bruno Rashford/Garnacho
Hojlund
They did not talk about the diamond passing system. What is the point of this analysis?
Don't even do that anymore... one of the midfielders drops to form a back 4
Jamie is absolutely spot on here by the way I’ve seen flow balance in Amorim since Braga he will not use a fixed approach he will put on a player if the player next to him completes him so if he has an attacking winger he ll have a more defensive midfield , get excited united fans 🇵🇹
This soundtrack slaps, good pick!
Buzzing over these Amorim updates.❤
Why this myth that De Ligt is slow, he can hold his own against anyone. He’s a powerful runner.
Honestly the fact that they broke it down in pie charts for a mainstream audience is hilarious and ballsy.
United still the biggest club in the League no ones arsed about the rest 😂 always on their minds even when we are shite....weren't even playing.
Straight facts bro💯
Amazing high level analysis and insight from Jamie Carragher .. certainly one of the best !!! Ecila you too are excellent !!!
Carra’s United 11 is spot on. I think it’s going to be this
Onana
Yoro, De Ligt, Martinez
Mazraoui, Ugarte, Mainoo, Garnacho
Amad, Fernandes
Hojlund
Bayindir
Evans, Maguire, Shaw
Dalot, Casemiro, Eriksen, Malacia
Mount, Rashford
Zirkzee
Heaton, Lindeflop, Amass, Collyer, Gore, Antony, Wheatley
Why do we keep looking at the stats u saw what happened with ten hag his Ajax had 1st it's a different system and a different league it doesn't matter
That's what they are saying will he turn up like eth and rip up his plans and tactics that got him the job and have no style of play at all or will be force his style of play on the players and figure out who can and can't play it and buy and sell accordingly because that worked with pep conte mourinho klopp etc who all came from different leagues they was dominating in with a specific style of play
possible left back alternatives to Shaw: Dalot, Diallo. Possible 10 options: Zirkzee, Mount. Really good one touch stuff to be seen with these guys.
Try to learn this once and for all!! It is NOT Sporting Lisbon. It IS Sporting Club of PORTUGAL.
He's going to Madchester Rovers.
Proud to see mu countryman Geny Catamo on this starting team.
Mainoo is good on the ball but energy? Pace? No no no. Sign Alfie Doughty. Brilliant LWB.
Hard to judge him in terms of his energy and pace because that midfield has been wide open and he has been asked to cover huge spaces since he's been in the team. Every midfielder played in there over the last 18 months has looked slow and leggy if you think about it.
Mainoo has decent pace and ‘energy’ but I’m not sure his game is mature enough to be playing week in week out for Man Utd.
Why are they acting like United are like 15 points off Europe? There's 6 points separating 4th and 12th.
6 points off Europe. 7 points off the Championship.
Eth did an amazing job CONSIDERING the situation around him. From players to media he had to deal still managed a 3rd league finish and carabao cup. Next season with a injury crisis yet a fa cup
And the comparison in 0:12.
Jamie stick to Liverpool and leave my club alone....how the heck should Garnancho play as a wing-back. His talent should not be wasted.
jamie is one of the best pundits in football…
@@iss1675I think so but he dear not make a rubbish decision on my team
@@Premier7768 As if the decisions for United so far aint rubbish
Why is Dalot not in this team?
Complete oversight quite embarrassing
jamie needs to stick as a pundit and not try to manage like rooney lol
I was impressed with Jody Morris' analysis when he was a guest on Rio's show. He'd be great on a Monday night football show.
To me I will have ugerte and Fernandez in midfield
Mount and Anthony as wing
Gernacho also out for Shaw
Ruben should Get Manchester United to Play in a 4-3-3 Formation.
Promote Young Players like Amass, Jackson, Baumann, Tyler (Fletcher), Jack (Fletcher), Lacey and Biancheri into the Squad and get rid of Onana, De Ligt, Martinez, Antony, Dalot, Eriksen, Fernandes, Zirkzee, Lindelof and Maguire.
Its not about formation but character, attitude, organization, discipline and consistency.
He puts Catamo LWB yet it’s actually Nuno Santos who has played the most games for Amorim more than anyone else over 180 games and he plays there
That's a huge problem in the midfield area cuz Mainoo and Ugarte lack pace big time
Funny how he didn't say anything about how Man Utd is top 3 in the league for final third tackles this season
as a Sporting CP fan, I think Rúben in the middle want a player o got a good possession with a ball, like Erikson, Fernandes to, in the defensive Bruno can't do well, but offensive is the best in the team, so
what I can see is
Onana
Lindelof, De Ligt and Martinez
Mazraoui Ugarte and Bruno Dalot
Garnacho Hojlund and Rashford
victor Moses did it at chelsea playing wingback and he was really really good
Utd should consider going back in for Chilwell.
Chilly?
You know you are getting 3 games out of 38 bro
@ I’m a Chelsea fan :) In fairness Chilly is fully fit for months now that he isn’t doing Pochetinos training. That’s why we had players injured in double figures most of last season and now we have only 1. Chilly would be a good squad player for Utd when fit but most teams now play with inverted fullbacks instead of wingbacks. You could get 20 games a season out of him if you don’t play him 3-4 games in a row and rotate him like Chelsea do with Reece James and Fofana. They only play premier league games and nothing else.
Chilwell?!! Gtfo 😂😂😂😂
