Hi Jon, A few years ago I got one of the Aldi version that links to my iphone. They are invaluable, I’ve used it for putting LAN cables between floors and wall cavities. Also been used to check for a shower tray leak upstairs by drilling a 10mm hole in the ceiling downstairs to prevent ripping up floorboards to investigate. For the price they’re a no brainer!😊👍
I've got a whole mountain of Tronic batteries, mostly included with Lidl goods. I could understand there might be an EEC battery mountain which needs work to manage, but didn't the UK _leave_ the EEC a while ago?... 🔋💨🙃
That image quality is better than some of the £100k industrial video probes I was using back in 1989 and a damn sight more portable too. The main difference was we had four-way articulating heads and the umbilical was 25 metres long.
Right in, I’m just off to Lidl, though I may walk as their receipt scanner for the car park wouldn’t scan a couple of weeks ago and I received a £90.00 fine in the post!
I can't think of any useful purpose for me right now, so I'll be getting one at the earliest opportunity. Mind you, I probably wouldn't poke anything electrical into a fuel tank if it wasn't intrinsically safe/ATEX certified. I'm sure the tank is empty and clean 😉.
As an aside, I have quite a lot of Tronic low self discharge (ready to use) AA/AAA/9v batteries in use in my house, some of the 9v PP3s are over a decade old. Tronics are okay if you don't need high current drain.
My main use for AA size cells is in wall clocks (Current draw around 0,5µA) and for this reason I tend to use Zinc Chloride types, which are better for long-term, low draw applications. I also have a large pile of Tronic AA cells lying around. 🔋 Are these likely to be suitable for use in clocks too, or will the very low current draw kill the cell before it's served the best of its useful life? 😇
@@dieseldragon6756 Low current draw never killed any battery. If those Tronics You have are the low self discharge NIMH type, go for it. I use the 9v ones primarily in smoke alarms. If they're not the low self discharge type (sold as ready to use rechargeable) you will lose more power in self discharge than your clocks will use. In either case the lifespan of the cell will be measured in "years" not "charge cycles". Like You i use Zinc cells for some things, mostly stuff that doesn't like the lower nominal voltage of rechargeables. For me, this tends to be stuff with old school mono LCD display like calculator, cheap kitchen scales etc.
@@JonCoupland I like your dad. He looks like a good man and funny 👍 I was told that proper blokes were called Colin, they wore bell bottom, and uber Colins had beefy sideboards. Please ask your dad 😆
As the instructions say _„Do not insert into any orifice“_ I probably can't have one in my toolbox - As that does double-duty as my first aid kit (Hey! Gaffa tape fixes *everything!* 😉) - But looking at the device itself and how its set up I can see some interesting alternative uses for it. Definitely going to keep my eyes on the _Sonderanbgebote_ shelf for the next few weeks for a cheaper hackable! 😁 Actually; Given I also speak German, I could simply observe the instructions in Deutsch and completely disregard what the English instructions say about orifices... 💡🇩🇪😉
interesting, as I was sure the listings explicitly say "does not do video".....but from the manua l5.9 Capturing videos Press and hold the Record button [3] for about 2 seconds to record a video. Video recording starts and the length of the video is shown on the display [1]. Briefly press the Record button [3] to stop recording. So I guess RTFM to me 😂
Great clip there, I'm looking to pick one up I've never had one, so this would be a great addition to the toolkit, you could use your phone's camera to record a video if need be, although it might not be the best of quality it would probably do?
What's the resolution of that thing? I bet for such a cheap little thing it'll most likely be only about 320 by 240 pixels, the usual figure for such cheap basic digi cameras, just like the really crap little cameras they fit on basic "simple to use" mobile phones now when they used to have really good cameras fitted, but now only "smart" phones have anything like decent cameras on. And does that endoscope have an AV output connector so you can plug it into a larger screen portable TV? I bet it doesn't, that's one thing I hate about those little inspection cameras, very few of them have any external video output.
Well I finally got my hands one the very last one in my local store. My verdict, yes, they are really good and totally worth the £39.99. I've used mine several times with great results.
@@JonCoupland I ask as I need to replace the Volvo V70 P3 intecooler sensor and it’s so hidden I can’t even see it. So I would like to get one to aid my “remove by feel alone” working method. And obvs Lidl are now out of them. Aldi’s version is £50 but has a much smaller screen. And the resolution is only something like 1280x720.
These things need a frame to hold your mobile phone a fixed position , I have a camera on a pole ( reversing camera) for roof and chimney inspections ( I live in a no fly zone for drones)
I had an identical Triumph 955i 2006 in blue. A really great bike if a little top heavy. I sold it not too l😂ong ago a bought a newer 2023 Triumph 850 Sport . While the jury is out on funny firing order-it’s ok! I put R& G bar end weights to stop some of the vibes the digital mileage screen is a bit strange too - who needs two tachos???- it is overly complex in digital form In my opinion That aside the 850 has a lower centre of gravity and doesn’t need “hustling” so much when manoeuvring on the garage floor / driveway. I don’t have a use for an Endoscope….Yet!!! But great video thank you.
Just bought one about 3 days ago so I’m wondering about the coincidence of this vid showing up, perhaps something is listening to me?! One of my TTs snapped a timing belt. I’ve got a new head and water pump etc but I need to check for any piston damage before I pay £400 to have it all fitted and timed. Strikes me that even if it doesn’t do everything at £40 it’s a bargain when you can easily spend £200-£500.
Impressive, just ordered one. Spent hours earlier this week feeding a wire through a wall with a void in the middle. One of these would have saved hours.
I have one that has to be used with my phone. However I do like this Lidl one, as it has its own screen. However Jon, I will boast that my is longer so I can stick it further into things than yours :P
The park unit will last longer I'd reckon .....I only bought the cheap one when I was replacing my astra1.6 cdti thermostat and water pump .....what a palaver that was especially as I was only working from above 👌🤣
So...can you use this to diagnose the health of your Ford 1.0 ecoboost wet belt? Drain oil, poke through drain plug hole, manoeuvre to oil strainer to see if there is debris from disintegrating wet belt....???
Why pay £40 for an endoscope camera when you can get one that plugs into an android smartphone or iphone from about £18 to £25 though of course more expensive models are available.
Almost identical to my bosch. Which is crap. Far too narrow FOV, difficult to align the camera the correct way and not worth the 80 quid i paid for it.

@@JonCoupland Even more bonkers than that, the Welch Allyn video probes we used had a black & white CCD chip but produced a colour image.
Great device, I'm glad dad is happy 😂 btw Tronic is Lidl brand batteries they also sell separately and they are pretty good 👍
I will check it out
I bought a 3m endoscope of Ebay for £7.50 and it connects through Bluetooth to my phone and has all the features of the lidle one. I can recomend it.
Ah brill - sadly Dad isnt as tech savvy and so i dont think he would get on with one you had to BT etc - thanks for watching :)

Tronic is a brand name exclusive to Lidl, the batteries are almost certainly made by a major manufacturer and branded for Lidl.
