Went to JHB last Saturday to test drive one. There was only one Prado 2.8GD VX-R available with a price tag of 1.8m, asked the sales guy what happened to the 1.45m listing price on the website, he said there`s a 350k markup due to the shortage and high demand and a 1-2 year waiting list 😅
You have to be joking. So ugly it looks like a Lego car then look at the price. You also get a reduction in fuel capacity. I will certainly not be upgrading from the current model.
No it does not. Sorry i needed to check first, which i why i took a while to respond. Toyota says Ad-Blu is not a regualtion yet in SA, so none of their models have it.
Thank you for the review Greg as always...you give lots of details, please give us a review of the Land Cruiser 76 top of the line and compare with this Prado. How durable is this one compared to the 76?
Nice review Greg. Everything brand new but the engine? A lot of money for the same 150 kw engine you can find in a Fortuner. No sunroof on the VXR? I think its overpriced. If you go and search prices are actually between 1,6 and R 1.8 mil
Yeah a lot of the feedback is about the engine and that it should have been new too. I do agree. But there is a sunroof in the VXR 👍🏼 you can see it in the video above me.
@GregDennisReviews entry level has rear lock and basic interior stuff for other countries. The version the Philippines is getting has all the plush interior upgrades. Seems like they've judged the market to be mostly mall crawlers.
….now we know why everyone was rushing to release their car before Toyota released this here vehicle….Well done ,now I can sell my Fortuner for this Prado. One question though…are we getting the heritage blue Color here in Afrika South….?
People knew Toyota was bringing the heat! Regarding the blue. I don’t think so, it’s not even on the website as an option. We only get white, greys, bronze, silver and black
Government in Australia fine you for using a phone when driving and rightly so yet they allow vehicles to have screens which you have to navigate to carry out functions that vehicles use to just a knob. Good on you Toyota for seeing how much more sense in having a knob that you can use without looking down so you don't have to take your eyes off the road.
Hi, thanks for the video! @15:47 it seems like the flip up cargo window is right at your headline. How tall are you and isnt that irritating? Would you be able to retract towbar or is it fixed, seems low to ground. Thanks again
Yeah it was quite close to me head, but I think it’s a mix of the car being on a slight gradient , me being 1.87m tall and the window angle not being wider. A tough higher would have been great. I’m not too sure about a retractable towbar, all I know if that the one on that Prado was fixed.
R1.5 bar well spent. Honestly didnt see anything that I disliked. Even the slightly choppy ride is not deal breaker. Will age well and not depreciate heavily. They should release a V6 even if its a special edition.
The fact that they reduced fuel tank capacity and didn’t improve fuel consumption on this car is a total negative. Other SUVs with six cylinder engines out perform this both on performance and fuel consumption. Besides the engine this car is superb
I feel like this should have been the new Fortuner instead. Looks more suburbanised rather than an off-road-focused vehicle like the old Prado. Most importantly for proper off-roading, lacks the rear door-mounted spare wheel which greatly increases fuel capacity. If this was the new Fortuner I wouldn't mind gladly buying it, but Prado....... In terms of looks, its okay. Did prefer the later models of the older one though.
Hopefully the Lexus GX550 coming to SA, will pack the punch that is missing from this new Prado. Everything on this new Prado looks perfect - but the dated "bakkie" (not a "bakkie" - a hilux) engine is a real sad - especially at the R1,8m price tag you will get to pay, if you want and can find one now...
It’s has a cheap version of the LC 300 chassis. The 2.8 is a pretty average engine too. I heard they’ve now added an adblue tank?. I Wouldn’t touch one with a barge pole , do yourself a favour and buy the last of the 3.0 prado !
I think the 150 kw motor is a deal breaker for many. Loaded up it will be underpowered which is a pity as I think it looks great. A split tailgate and at least 180 kw would make it the almost perfect vehicle
Though you were gonna say "it's a South African favorite, not a day went past without someone trying to steal it or stick a gun in my face at the robot." Nice car, but way toooo much money for a Toyota.
Of course, Fanboyz will swoon. But, once bitten, twice shy. Currently equipping my entire group of companies with other brands, where warranties get honoured. 😊
Nice review, I was really looking forward to the new prado but the car looks absolutely ugly, god knows what Toyota design engineers were thinking here in Australia pricing is $10k more then previous generation prado across the range but with the same gutless 2.8 diesel and no other option. Ford Everest is smashing it here with sales.
Car's face - Yes Side - Yes Bum - No Interior - okayish There's better out there. And by that I also mean there's cars that you can drive without worrying about getting hijacked. Toyota Prado is not one of them. And what with thr huge bezels surrounding the screen? This isn't 2012.
Massive 10 out of 10 for this Prado, well done Toyota 😎😅🔥👏
It definitely deserves a 10/10 🙌
Bring them all. Chinese, Germans or Americans. This Toyota Prado is all vehicle you will need.
Not with that tractor engine
@@josh3221ifyTractor engine is Mahindra cars
Great review as usual. Thanks G. Can't afford it but it was good to dream
Thanks for watching!! 🙏🏼
This new Prado leaves every Defender broken down in the dust. Hands down best in class vehicle.
Thank you 🙏🙏I have been waiting for this review.
It’s a pleasure! 🙌

Wow that’s so hectic! Surely that can’t be allowed… but I guess it is? A price on a website should be the price tho?
@ Very disappointed to be honest . I was hoping to get a Prado but with 1.8m price tag it’s competing with defender 110 hse. I’m changing my mind.
@@chaoxuereport the dealer to Toyota

10/10 well done TOYOTA
They absolute nailed it 👍🏼
Good review, watching from Kenya
Thanks for watching! Send Kenya my love ♥️
The only Toyota👌🏽
Another day, another Greg Dennis Review 😎🔥
That’s right!! Thanks for tuning in! 🙏🏼
Great review, thanks. Does it require Adblue?
No it does not. Sorry i needed to check first, which i why i took a while to respond. Toyota says Ad-Blu is not a regualtion yet in SA, so none of their models have it.

Thanks for the feedback! I don’t think you can really compare them… that 76 is barebones
This is the car to take overloading. The Everest platinum, as much as it is a 4x4, looks more like a roadtrip car.
It's a beautiful machine......well done TOYOTA 👏👏👏
We’re all loving the Prado!!!
Nice review Greg. Everything brand new but the engine? A lot of money for the same 150 kw engine you can find in a Fortuner. No sunroof on the VXR? I think its overpriced. If you go and search prices are actually between 1,6 and R 1.8 mil

i love that brown and black color
The Philippines is just getting one variant, Prado Luxury Mall Crawler spec, no sway bar disconnect, no rear lock 🙄
Sounds like an entry level version
@GregDennisReviews entry level has rear lock and basic interior stuff for other countries.
The version the Philippines is getting has all the plush interior upgrades.
Seems like they've judged the market to be mostly mall crawlers.

I completely agree! Knobs and buttons on cars should be a legal standard
Great review and always been my dream car but can’t be offered with the same engine as hilux and fortuner - that’s a big let down
Thank you 🙏🏼 and yeah, a lot of people think the same thing
It is very nice but l would go for a ford everest platinum for 1 million that has features that this Prado have
That Everest is very compelling
@GregDennisReviews true 👍
Plus that v6 engine
And how long do you wanna drive that ford? Coz I believe you will bury 3 fords before one toyota dies.
@linxthebrand6389 so what about that price it looks cheap to you
Hi, thanks for the video!

how tall are you? for sitting in a back row idea.
Why does this not get the mild hybrid engine that the Hilux and Fortuner gets?
That would have been a good update for a car like this
Toyota can take my money 💰
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
R1.5 bar well spent. Honestly didnt see anything that I disliked. Even the slightly choppy ride is not deal breaker. Will age well and not depreciate heavily. They should release a V6 even if its a special edition.
We only get the hybrid version here in NZ..
Same here in Aus, mild hybrid so I’m told.
The fact that they reduced fuel tank capacity and didn’t improve fuel consumption on this car is a total negative. Other SUVs with six cylinder engines out perform this both on performance and fuel consumption. Besides the engine this car is superb
0- 100 time ?

I think that Lexus is going to overshadow this
@@GregDennisReviews Yes - but it will be much more expensive
I believe it needs another 50 horsepower, great review though
I agree, a jump up in power would be ideal

Five Stars! Thank you 🙏🏼
If you think about it this was wayyyy over due😮 and this is worth jt.
Now Toyota will change it again in 20 years 😂
Toyota really did well hey 😮
Yeah get used to seeing until 2040 🤣

Thank you
Prado 150 was a very soft suspension vehicle. Not sure why Toyota needed to change this?
Of course, Fanboyz will swoon. But, once bitten, twice shy. Currently equipping my entire group of companies with other brands, where warranties get honoured. 😊
Damn… I’m sorry to hear that
Can you please give me one..I want to experience that☺️
I'm worried about that power for that weight, you should have done 0-100 just to show how it handles,in not saying it's a performance car
Debating on Getting this or the Crown for Mom
Americans call these a Landcruiser. Nobody in Australia ever regards the Prado as a Landcruiser😅
It’s still very much known as the Prado 😂
He said he drives a Landcruiser, but he picked me up in a Prado. Aussie humour 🤣😂
Why are you not comparing it to the Everest Platinum and the Tank 500?
Awesome, but imagine how much better the new Ford Everest platinum is..
Nice but eish GWM TANK 500
Yeah that tank has a lot to offer too!
Styling and interior, just like the 300, already looks dated. Weak driveline and extremely overpriced makes the Lexus version more attractive.
Piss weak engine for a vehicle of this size
2.8L on a big car = 😂😂😂😂😂😂
2,4L petrrol =😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😊😂😂😂🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲😩😩😩😎😎😎😂😂
I love Toyota SUV’s….. problem is one…… you gonna get hijacked
The engine is a joke - should of been the 6 cylinder from the 300

Tank 500 !
3.3 v6 diesel engine please Toyota
To be fair, it's just catching up to other vehicles in the class, it's not really revolutionary
Car's face - Yes

Bum - No
Interior - okayish
