2:55 The "Baby Vykkers" shown in Concept Artwork aren't actually supposed to be babies at all. There supposed to be young adult Vykkers that are yet to be affected by self-inflicted experimentation. Basically these are Vykkers in their natural state.
I think the reason why we see vykkers being brutal in their seen on screen operations is we are either seeing experiments or organ extraction where the victim isn't expected to survive anyway so no care is given. But for those operations where the patient is meant to live like Lady Margaret's lung transplant I think Vykkers would show more precision and care.
FUN FACT! Everytime I go to the dentist or orthodontist, I always think of the scene where the Vykkers do horrific surgery on Munch. Considering how messed up my mouth used to be, I thought about this scene a lot.
The Vykkers are one of my favorite Oddworld races alongside Sligs, though it's no wonder to me why I like them so much. There's a faction in Warhammer 40k that has very big Vykker energy and that's the Haemonculus Covens of the Drukhari, they're sadistic mad doctors who love inflicting pain and making masterpieces out of victims. I collect miniatures of them and they're great fun to put together and paint ^^
Yeah, it wasn't intentional, just a mistake while recording that I thought created a funny concept (what the heck is a drug-inducing-drug) so I left it in.
Dude, the chant suppressor seen at the top right of your outro could also be created by the Vykkers! It has a lot of "tentacles ???" robotic under it and is even more violent in shocking Abe with lightning, in fact in SoulStorm, they do not always shock you, they can also only strike the Ch'i sphere, this is another thing about the Vykker philosophy that says, "If you can do it violently do it violently!" Also the Vykkers nails are already like surgery tools as long as they are lol, then if you see the Vykkers probably put one mirror on top of the other in the second level cutscene to create more heat and actually make Munch suffer more, I always knew they were violent, but before this video I had never paused to see how violent they were! Let's say, not a very kind creature here .... Oh and .. Happy new year, pal! ; D
LOL "If you can do it violently do it violently!" I hadn't heard that one, I love that! Very hilarious. I suppose it must be very 'handy' to have such sharp and strong claws. It could be quite nice and useful I think. And (apologies for a week late, haven't logged in for a while) Happy new year David! You are a very kind and knowledgeable person and I appreciate your comments! :)
5:00 this part about Vykkers hands/claws reminds me of a story; when I was younger (I think in my tweens/early teens) I was visiting my grandmother at a nursing home and there was this one old guy in an electric wheelchair with a pork pie hat and a blue jumper who had some kind of paralysis or something. He was also kind of mute. Anyway, I remember hanging out in the garden of the home and the old guy rolled up to me and reached out his hand. I figured he wanted to give me a friendly handshake, so to be nice, I put my hand in his... ...And he squeezed it so, so tight! And it was so painful!! It was like the bones in his hand were made of metal and clamped down hard on my fingers! I actually went down on my knees because it hurt so much! Eventually, one of the nurses saw this and broke it up. She explained to me that apparently the old man pulled this kind of thing all the time just to mess with people. Anyway, for some reason the idea of the Vykkers being strong and capable of inflicting a world of pain even without their tools despite their frail looking bodies reminded me of that. I guess without the cushioning of fat and muscle, the Vykkers grips or hits are much more hard and painful. Like that old man crushing my hand... 😭
That's a really good point, looks can be very deceiving! It's surprising how someone can seem so weak, yet in reality be able to inflict damage and paint like that. It's also interesting how some people do that just for fun lol. Reading that reminded me of when I was in high school there was a girl that would pinch me VERY hard as she was seemingly intrigued by the fact that I wouldn't react to it. It hurt A LOT though lol, I remember she left massive bruises.
Idk if this even make since but maybe it’s too induce fear on the critters they catch who are commonly hunted by sligs so they’d fear them. Tho idk what scaring a patient would really do for them except morbid pleasure of torture that vykers seem too like
@@lucydrop9674 That's actually a really great theory! I was about to say 'I wonder if Oddworld Inhabitants purposefully made it look like a slig' but wasn't sure what purpose that'd serve, but your idea would be a really perfect explanation and suits the Vykkers sadistic tendencies brilliantly! It seems like they surely must've known it looked like a slig, so that'd be a fantastic reason why.
I just realized the flying things they are using in the cutscene were munch gets captured looked like a ufo even the giant vykkers labs looks like a giant ufo
I belive that drill is more like a Lobotomy or screwguts tool..Interesting how sadistic and creative are the Vikkers, I always consider them more as simple emaciated doctors, but their profession is amplified in their craft and engineering development. I also think that it is a recent sketch of the anatomy of its claw, it could be an evolutionary memory of some biological ancestor. It would be epic for that CyborgVykker to be a final boss in future installments.
I use to be afraid of the Vykkers thanks to that bad ending but now I'm starting to admire them. Their fear inducing experiments and actually relatable to me because I have a fear of hospitals and injections, especially injections. They're like the Reaper Nurses from indie horror game Dark Deception due to their obsession with syringes and just wanting to see the mortals suffer. The Reaper Nurses though only do this to males due to said nurses originally being souls of those who were force to go through controversial harassment by men. Meanwhile, the Vykkers do such things to any creature just for the fun of it. I'd recommend checking out Dark Deception- if you're not afraid of bellhop monkeys with knives for hands, large rubber ducks with human legs and three animal mascots popular because of FNAF.
Vykkers are based on grey aliens with thier large heads tendency to abduct and perform surgery. Hell the airship and personal crafts are shaped like saucers. *Also Sawbones is a slang term for a medical doctor in particular a surgeon.
I wonder if the Vykkers are really the ones calling the shots and the Glukkons were just down on their luck and a perfect race to bait with fancy technological trinkets in exchange for... Well, everything.
Makes me wonder if the so called crater on the Mudukon Moon is a Vykker creation... Fly over to the planet and conduct a gigantic psyop to destabilize the religious and political structures.
Well, I suppose Munch's lung will keep her going for quite a bit longer, but if his lung fails then there's no hope for her. The good ending where Munch saves the Gabbits almost, in the long term, seems to have better prospects for Glukkons in terms of more Gabbit lungs to harvest....
Steam power isn't as archaic as you'd think, back in the day I used to think that such a thing was so old and useless seeing how you need two fuels to work a machine, one being coal for the furnace and the other being water that is then boiled into steam to work a machine, but to my surprise nuclear ships and subs work on on the same principle except instead of coal it's uranium. The problem I see with this being used anywhere else is that water is not as plentiful on land as it is in the sea. However,Vyykers Labs is in the air so maybe they collect the water through the clouds and power their airship with hydrogen based energy.
That's a good idea. I wouldn't be surprised if Oddworld Inhabitants have done concepts like that in their archives going in-depth about how the Vykkers power their ships and machines. It sounds like it'd be a really plausible idea considering there's so much art of their steam power.
O sents you seem really focused on the vykkers right no what about doc from strangers wrath he’s an unusually eithical Vykker providing medicine to the fronters and keeps strangers secret for him even in spite of the massive reward

Oh yeah, thanks to Fives for inspiration on the title.

Happy I’m not the only one that had odd world traumatize their life 😂😂😂
The Vykkers certainly are creative when it comes to creating tools of violence.

Cool to see that my Proposition of vid name got through
Happy new year 2022!
Happy new year to all of you
Happy new years to you
I appreciate your efforts. Keep up the good work:3!
The rusted equipment probably fuels their sadist nature
The rust means it’s harder to cut flesh witch means the “patient” stays alive a litter longer

Ha it sounds like quite an interesting universe.
Happy New Year, pupbenny.
Speaking of weapons, you should do a video on the guns of oddworld specifically the ones the outlaws and wolvarks use.
That's true, I'll have to find out and see if there's anything particularly specific about their weapons I can talk about!

Fun Fact: every time I step outside in the woods I think there’s a beeping bear trap somewhere.
Pls I need more content I keep coming back to the same videos hoping you make a new one 😢

I don't remember seeing these maps in Munchys oddysee. Where was there a dorm full of vikers?
The level with the dorms is Vykkers Suites, it’s one of the last levels in the game.
How do you rate Queen Margret's survival odds after the Munch's Oddysee Bad end?
