Those little toothpicks are surprisingly strong in a collection, aren’t they? I figured my few fancy ones would get lost in the crowd, but they look as good as the bigger, slabbier knives. Good way to add a series for cheap. I ordered a black Frost sunfish from BM this week. And a few whittlers to keep it company in the box. And some strange parts from the old Schrade factory in NY in case I want to try knife surgery. Gotta love payday. The eagle flies once a month for me. What are you picking up this month, William?
@@skcamerican I have another Case due in tomorrow. A copperlock Wharncliffe this time. And I did another order with SMKW & got a RR celestial Stockman plus a novelty knife coming in.
Good stuff JB !! Love the cinnamon bone stag series !! I want the doctors knife in that series !! That copper swirl canoe is great !! Thanks for the video !! Take care JB
That stag series is really nice looking. It’s hard to stop myself from buying too many knives when they put out a line like this at the price they are!
Wait, the stockman is out of stock? How can a stockman be a stockman without stock? Ha. 4 gorgeous and interesting knives for sure. That celestial is sweet. Thanks.
I like all of them! Don’t have one of the Stag bone ones yet but I will have to correct that in the future. I love the Rough Ryder knives as you well know! I appreciate seeing your reviews on them. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
Very nice RR's JB. I like the copper swirl series very much and yes the cinnamon bone stag is even more beautyfull. The copperheads are a pattern i don't have yet but the canoe oh boy me like! Thank you for showing what is available on new series.
I really like the Celestia, and the Copper swirl. The Cinnamon Bone Stag is great looking but double the price for the Damascus kind of puts it behind the others as I didn't see it being assembled any better. Llike the Acorn sheild as well. Hope you are having a great day off with Nellie. Have a great Labor day.
I tried to order a few of these from SMKW... I spoke with the guys directly and unfortunately they do not send directly to the UK 🇬🇧 but they are working on it... Lovely knifes, great video👍 thanks for sharing brother 🍺
Still not getting notifications for your channel it's crazy just happen to find this video looks like I'll have to do a daily search Thanks for the look at these beautiful knives That stag is sweet tho
Out of those I’m def feeling the bone stag more. Now I’m patiently waiting to see what I missed in the smkw sub box. Had to cancel last month so I could order on NKD. Compromise with wife. 😪
The cinnamon bone is very well done, though I am not that bothered by the damascus, a pity there are no large stockmen available. That main blade on the canoes is really handy, got my black micarta carbon canoe in my pocket.
That upside-down Barlow proves that the big R is a bad idea… lol. I like the look of the celestials, with two different blues and that imbedded metallic mesh stuff. The swirls are cool, too, but I’d have to get that shiny copper patinaed up. Yep, the cinnamon stag is the star. They’ve really got the coloring and jigging down. It’s gorgeous. Isn’t the copperhead pattern awesome? - you get broader blades than a trapper, and a nice little curve to the handle. I’d like to have at least one from each series. Are you going to add any of these to your collection, JB?
LOL....the poor "R"! The Copperhead pattern could quickly become a favorite I think! Nope...these were provided by SMKW and will be given away! Stay tuned!!
That cinnamon bone stag is nice ! Gotta be honest copper just doesn’t cut it for me . Been working my classic carbon bow trapper hard since it came in the mail. Rough Ryders T10 is a great working steel .
I like the looks of the cinnamon stag bone but not the “Damascus” blade. I skipped on it because not a single “ big pattern” I collect. But it has some of the prettiest bone and a great shield. The R is the other way on Barlows in other series. This seems to be an error for the pattern. Copper Swirl looked really nice. I grabbed the little Cub lockback.
I love the cinnamon series, they're gorgeous! What I don't understand is why Rough Rider stockman knives have the sheep's foot ground on the wrong side so it has to bend to the side so it can close. Very strange. All of their stockmans that I have seen and in various aizes are like that.
@@BigRedEDC Not the user bending it, but the manufacturer. Look closely at the sheep's foot blade and see, at its root, by the pivot, it's ground asymetrically to create a little gap so the two blades facing each other can share that space. The RR stockman knives appear to be ground on the wrong side. They get past this quirk by bending the sheep's foot diagonally a bit. Try comparing with another brand's stockman, you might see a difference.
The cut out is reminiscent of the one armed jack which came to existence after the civil war to make it easier for soldiers that lost an arm in the war to open a knife!!
@@BigRedEDC Thanks for the answer, that makes sense. I just received one and it feels as you described, possible to open with one hand, especially against some object like a table edge.
@@BigRedEDC I have culinary knives and a lot of the Damascus ones made in China aren't true Damascus. Damascus is forged in layers and as they grind the shape of the knife, the layers are revealed. True Damascus doesn't have any thickness to it. If you run your finger across it, you wouldn't feel any difference between the polished parts and the Damascus lines. If you look at it closely, you see the Damascus pattern going into the steel. Etched Damascus is on the surface of the blade. Sometimes you can't feel it, but if you hold it at an angle you can see that it is slightly raised or has a different kind of surface than the rest of the blade. True Japanese Damascus is rated by the number of layers... 32 layers or 64 usually. It's the number of times the steel is folded back upon itself... 2, 4, 8, 16. 32 layers. My guess is that this isn't true Damascus. Another way to tell is to look at the pattern etched into the blade and see if you can discern repeated patterns. That indicates that it isn't randomly created by forging layers, but a pattern applied by a stencil. It's like the Cinnamon Bone you show. It is obviously not real stag because the pattern on the back of the knife is exactly the same as the pattern on the front. Natural stuff has randomness to it.
The problem with the Celestial series to me is that, Atleast in video, it doesn’t look dimensional and “glowy” it just looks like blue with swirls in it. There’s no real starry-celestial-bright-layered look to it. The copper swirl is the same thing, but instead of no bright contrast and layering, it just has no dimension. Also the swirls are kinda grainy and weird.
That first one, Celestial Swirl, is my fav of the four. Thanks for showcasing them.
Very good Robert! Thank you very much for watching!!
They did that cinnamon stag bone right. It's one of their best looking series. I only have a small toothpick in it, but I want more.
