New steels and tougher steels are always great but something can be said for a knife you can replace and not feel that hurt over replacing. Remember back to when we were younger and knives like this would fill our pockets and steel wasn't a huge issue. Great video brother! P.S. in a world where there are so many new and crazy knives we are blessed to have a company that allows us (and not to mention our young new knife nuts) the look and feel of the wonderful old school! Much love!

I appreciate that you let the knife just lay there, so I can look at it. It is hard to resist the temptation to fidgit with them, whirling, twirling, and waving, but a still shot gives me time to really examine the knife details and esthetics. This puts you ahead of many other knife videos.

I might try to pick my top five RR's. Surprisingly, none of yours made the list. At least I don't think so. Nice to see that you have picked up every version of the Tadpole. For me that is one of the cool things about the Rough Ryders. I know you're doing something similar to with a Finch Pattern. But you have to admit, when if come to "Bang for your buck" or in the of the tadpole, "just plain fun for your money" ; those little guys are much easier on your wallet. Thanks for the run down, JB. Really enjoyed it.

I like RR a lot, here in France they're not as cheap as they are oversea but still they're affordable.
Some models disappointed me (especially because of blade play) but most of them are quite good and reliable.
I am looking for one of the Nick Zombie serie, probably the Large Toenail.
I also need to find a model that has a maximum of 6cm length blade (approx. 2.4 inches) to carry everywhere, even in plane (in Europe non locking knives with 6cm blade max are tolerated in cabin, so I could travel with a useful tool).
    Blessings, great video!

I almost always have a RR or other cheap traditional dropped into my pocket as a back up to my modern folders. I don't care if they have some cosmetic flaws, they are daily users. They get beat, dropped, scratched, stained, gunked up with whatever, and occasionally lost or broken. I'd have a seriously bad day if that happened to a high end GEC or Jack Wolf, but a $10-20 dollar knife? Big deal, I'll buy another one for less than what I spent on dinner last night.

Happy Friday Big Red the blue black RR2181 denim micarta Wharncliffe is my No:1 favorite Rough Ryder knife & on mine the back spring is super strong with no blade wiggle at all . My 2nd favorite RR knife is the RR1890 the Easy Money large canoe, 3rd Favorite is the Black Bone Coal Miner Lockback RR761 clip point blade, 4th favorite the Blue Smooth Bone Copperhead RR2288 & No: 5 is the brown Jigged Bone Handles Lockback RR193 Clip Point Blade knife. I have half a dozen other Rough Ryders but there are the most well made & value for money ones I own and the RR2181 & RR1890 are the two in my EDC rotation more frequently than the other Rough Ryders that I own & the RR761 sits on my desk at home next to my computer

Rough Ryders are a lot of knife for a little money. Most under $20 and the Apta(VG10, titanium and micarta) for $26, forget about it. Letting AA get away probably not the smartest move but every party ends sometime. Carry a classic carbon bow trapper daily, love it.

I have one of the glow in the dark rough rider knives that is very hard to open. I have cleaned it with caned air and oil as well as oiling it, without much difference. Do you have any ideas on what would improve the opening of the knife? Thanks 👍❤️🔪

Rough Ryders fill a niche a reasonably high quality knife for the price.if you break or damage it your out maybe 20 dollars. they work there decent knives for the money

How do you pick just five? I’ve dragged out about 50, and it’s hard! Yes on the work knife. Upswept bow trapper. RR1044, boxcar whittler. Dog bone jack. RR1029, dog leg trapper in honey bark bone. Cub in bolster stripes. Blackwood sodbuster. Medium folding hunter in RJB. Do I have to stop? Lol.

From what I’ve heard Case knives are hit or miss. You either get them defect free or with major fitment problems like the ones you have. Nothing in between. I guess I’ve been lucky because the 3 that I own have no problems with them. Next time that happens to you, I’d recommend sending it back and buying a new one. I wouldn’t bother with the warranty.
