I appreciate that you let the knife just lay there, so I can look at it. It is hard to resist the temptation to fidgit with them, whirling, twirling, and waving, but a still shot gives me time to really examine the knife details and esthetics. This puts you ahead of many other knife videos.
Thanks for checking them out! I'm not here for flash, glitz and glamour! Not trying to be James Cameron or Oliver Stone. Just want to give straight forward info to help someone make an informed decision
New steels and tougher steels are always great but something can be said for a knife you can replace and not feel that hurt over replacing. Remember back to when we were younger and knives like this would fill our pockets and steel wasn't a huge issue. Great video brother! P.S. in a world where there are so many new and crazy knives we are blessed to have a company that allows us (and not to mention our young new knife nuts) the look and feel of the wonderful old school! Much love!
I'm looking forward to my first rough rider. They are some nice looking knives and for the money you can't go wrong. #1 on your list really appeals to me. I love that blade.
Just got the denim apta Wharncliffe, I absolutely love the shape of the handle, it feels perfect in my hand,, and that Wharncliffe is one of the best blade shapes going,. Imho.. It's a strong robust knife, just made for whittling,, and to top it all off, it's VG10,,, a truly great knife for the money,, Thanks for showing us these ones.. 👍👍
I might try to pick my top five RR's. Surprisingly, none of yours made the list. At least I don't think so. Nice to see that you have picked up every version of the Tadpole. For me that is one of the cool things about the Rough Ryders. I know you're doing something similar to with a Finch Pattern. But you have to admit, when if come to "Bang for your buck" or in the of the tadpole, "just plain fun for your money" ; those little guys are much easier on your wallet. Thanks for the run down, JB. Really enjoyed it.
I just started to collect knives at the beginning of the year. I only have 1 rough ryder so far but I dig it. Titanium Apta 3 was free in 1 of my monthly club boxes. Solid made and sharp blade.
Great look at some great knives. Thanks! I still need to pick up an Apta or two. I plan to visit the store when the weather is less treacherous. I think I can wait until then. Maybe.
Very good. I enjoyed this. I am scouring the catalogs at smkw and amazon, lokking for rough ryder knives! I know im buying a sod buster. And i have a fascination with barlows. A hold over interest from my youth. Thank you!
I really wish I could get into these rough ryders, but for some reason I just like having my traditional knives either made in America or Europe, don’t get me wrong I have plenty of modern folders that are made in china, and I’d say Reate makes some of the finest quality production knives in the world, it’s just something about a traditional knife I want it to be made in America or Europe
I don’t shop for slip joints but came across a Rough Ryder on AK’s website and had to get it for my father and now ordered a second one for me. The knife I had to have for under 20 was the Leg Knife. Dads a huge fan of Christmas Story. It is a gimmick but actually looks real nice so the second one is ordered. You really should get one to carry with or alternate with that sweet tadpole!
I have one of the glow in the dark rough rider knives that is very hard to open. I have cleaned it with caned air and oil as well as oiling it, without much difference. Do you have any ideas on what would improve the opening of the knife? Thanks 👍❤️🔪
Those are all great RR choices. I have all but the original black micarta work knife. I missed out on that one. I do have the denim one though. I can't decide which one of the Apta series that I like the best. The shipwrecked one that I have is so cool but heavy. I like them all.
Thanks for your information, found a 304 on Amazon, tadpole as well, pulled the trigger on both, I don't mind spending $$on a decent blade but with all of the Q C issues that Case seems to be experiencing, I'm a little leary unless I can see one in person. Once again thanks, yes, I subscribed 😊
Great list. Thank you for sharing. I would go in no particular order. RR Highland Bowie, VG-10 trapper, Bow Trapper, Stoneworx Congress and Buckshot Bone Cotton Sampler ( I could've made my top 5 all cotton samplers haha).
I totally agree with all of these comments. I really like Rough Ryder as well. I have plenty of knives with super steels and they are rarely needed. A good budget steel works for almost all of your every day tasks. They are also fun to collect
Got my Little Riverbend Skinner using your discount code yesterday. This one i'm gonna save and do the full unboxing on camera so people can see all the SWAG that comes from Blue Creek..
In our current world of $500+ BM , companies like RR ,rosecraft, cjrb etc are gonna take off w some sweeet blades--- great vid man, always a big fan of RR n RRR
The denim micarta work knife is the only RR I have but it's a very good one, and I like that Apta-series a lot too! Like you said, RR always offers great value for money 💯👍

Solid list, buddy! RR makes so many neat patterns, but if I had to pick some absolute favorites they would be the half hawk and the teardrop jack. And to round out the five, I would include anything with the name trapper, stockman, or sod buster attached to it because I really like carrying those patterns. Cheers, buddy!

#ANGRYWATERMELON! The bowtrapper, the apta, ofcourse the workknife and i'm a sucker for canoe's, luckily for me RR makes quite awesome ones. Thank you JB.
Rough Ryders are a lot of knife for a little money. Most under $20 and the Apta(VG10, titanium and micarta) for $26, forget about it. Letting AA get away probably not the smartest move but every party ends sometime. Carry a classic carbon bow trapper daily, love it.
Rough Ryders fill a niche a reasonably high quality knife for the price.if you break or damage it your out maybe 20 dollars. they work there decent knives for the money

Wonderfully said. As a "young new knife nut" myself, I absolutely prefer traditionals. I mean hey, look at my collection! It's mostly slipjoints!
If I had a dollar for every knife I’ve lost, or broken, I’d have enough to replace one of them.
@BigRedEDC I don't think case knives are that much better..

those tadpole ones look very cool
