Currently using Mediclay, had some poorly fish after treat for fluke and Tric, a couple was really sulking and I was very worried so thought I’d apply the double dose (as per subscribed). Checked on the fish a couple of hours later and thought I’d chuck some food in to entice them and boom the sulky fish came up to feed and had been on the food ever since. As James would say “Happy Days”. Mixing has not been a problem but I only have to apply 88 grams for my pond, use a fork and 2 litres of water to mix not a problem. The cloudiness has almost gone in my pond after 4 hour which I bet some people would say money down the drain, but after added Mediclay the fish have defo got mote of a appetite...

Nice video Andy. I use the KUSURI clay in my pond and at 25g per 500 gallons (my pond is 1300 gallons), I get around 15 doses for £17. It also mixes very well and only clouds the water for an hour or so. It also helps with the fines in the water, so when I put it in, I turn off my filters to let the finds settle, then switch the filters back on. Water clarity is better after a dose than before. Just subscribed, so will keep an eye out for your clay updates.

Great review of clay. I used clay for around 2 years. As you have found it definitely helps with the beneficial bacteria. It’s the calcium in the clay that the bacteria consume which helps them to multiply. The only downside is that you will find the PH will creep up as you continually put it in. With that in mind, I have recently started an experiment in the opposite direction that you are carrying out. A month ago, I watched a Rasta Koi video where Raab Hussain swore that a lower PH level of around 7.2 and low KH of around 2 improves Koi health. They never check mineral levels which can be found using a GH test for calcium and magnesium etc. Bear in mind that calcium is in the clay which at the end of the day is calcium bentonite or montmorillonite. Calcium will react with you water which in turn produces carbonates if my memory is correct. Carbonates then raise the waters PH which according to Rasta and Raab is not what koi particularly like. After a month my pond of not using clay my pond water is stabilising at a PH of 7.5. As it made any difference to the fish? It’s probably to early to say. The only thing I do know is that the nitrite and nitrate levels have gone up, although the fish have not reacted to that just yet. So I will leave the clay out for another month and go from there.

Hi thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video. Plenty more to come!
You certainly know about clay! You had some really good points there. As in the video my supplier said I only have to add it every 2-3 weeks. Alot of people add it weekly every week so I am planned to start to add every other week soon and see how PH etc levels go then adjust from there. Cheers...

Im considering using it again, just to hopefully bind up some of the algae 'haze' and help it get removed by my drum. If you need some help on your water clarity, maybe post up a bit about the pond, and your system in general. Admittedly everyone will tell you their pond system is best, but you may gleam some good advice perhaps? In fairness, i think most people are struggling with water quality at the moment, with the heat and bright sun. Interesting.....I use mediclay, it does polish up the water ( it combines all the suspended heaveys and pulls them down into your filter) i use it more as a way to inhance the fish health in the pond and increase appetite BUT yes it does cloud the pond for a day or so. I like the way the F O K doesn't cloud up the pond too much and looking at other sellers it can be put into the pond or straight into the filter system. Cant see anything about it clearing larvae from your pipes but I've always seen that as food for my fish when it washes down. Looking at the long term benefits of F O K don't look bad as a alternative clay.

Interesting to compare after watching a James and Devonkoi. Think I may try clay in my pond just to see for myself. On the point of not clouding as much as mediclay could it be because you are using less than 50% in the mix? If you increased to double the suggested dosage would it increase the density of of the mix therefore clouding the pond similar to the mediclay? Just a thought.

Hello mate, new subscriber. Just found you when researching the Mediclay. It’s all to do with your koi’s Health ect it’s also a time thing and mixing a product has been no worry’s to me I don’t get what some people are on about when mixing a product lol
But all clays are very much the same some are better then others like anything in life
But in the long term if you keep useing any clay it will help your koi ,water clarity will take time I use the medically nt labs as it’s easy 4 me to get hold of and I like it
But like I said in the video I made there are loads of different clays treatments product brands available it’s just down to preference I only show people what I do!!!
But not to say I would not try this FOK my self 👍👌
The koi masters is a very good product as well I only stoped useing that as I couldn’t get hold of it when we had the start of lock down
Going to sub to keep a eye on how you get on when the bag is gone
But if you can tell your fish are eating more ect allready only means one thing they are happy and healthy would they be the same with out clay ?

Nt labs medically caused irritation on mine so i moved to Koi Masters Advantage and never looked back it isn't a clay therefore does not cause irritation to koi gill filaments it rematerialises and replaces trace elements in pond water creating the perfect conditions for your koi to thrive. also acts like a sponge and flocculates impurities, moving them to the filtration chambers for biological and mechanical disposal and removes toxins you should see improvements in water clarity, koi colour, skin lustre and sumi develops and thickens. It also contains a bio stimulant to boost your filtration performance. It is formulated to stabilise pH and boost kH whilst in suspension creating perfect koi water. Can't beat it! 5kg does mine for quite a while.

    3) water clarifying. it bond with small organic matters together to sink to bottom for BD. therefore it increases efficiency of mechanical filter.

Hi Carol. I take it you found the instructions I posted. I've not tested it KH assistance but did find it helps with the PH. It will take a few doses to start to see it's difference as it is a plug and play treatment. I found it helped with Fish appetite, water clarity, reduction of fly larvae, beneficial bactieria etc. As with all Clay's it does leave a residue as it is a floculant. I found it took a few doses before I started to see some differences.. 😉👍

Videos can be found on RUclips. So in conclusion I think clay is very important for good koi health. Regards Mark

In my opinion fok is useless, I went through 2 bags over the recommended time period and fount no difference in every aspect before and after, In the last year I’ve used NT Labs Mediclay and the results are unbelievable for the water and the fish, The water clarity is gives a marble effect and the apatite the fish have is mad there like Puranas! I have noticed more colour clarity on the fish but not a big difference to be fair, Stop wasting money on fok and other overpriced products like that and stick to the tried and tested methods, I’ve heard Kushui clay is also good but haven’t tried it myself, The only thing Fok is good for is the bank balance of the owner of you’re local aquarium shop, Don’t buy what they recommend buy what you no to be good and if you don’t no what to use do a little research first you’ll save a lot of money!
