Potato soup, cornbread and fried bacon are one of my favorite cold weather meals. Simple and tastes so good.
I seen you for the first time just by accident.and you were making the potato soup I immediately put you on pause so I could write down the recipe. Thank you so much.
With all that is going on in our country, you are a sweet respite to my soul. Thank you for making these videos. You make me feel like I walked in my neighbor's back door and we're going to have a little chat.
SO true....happy channel❤️
I agree. After one of your videos you gave us a short devotional. Thank you for that.
Amen from Louisiana! This is how we southerners feel about REAL homemade soups and foods! The oldest recipes are the best and she keeps it simple and healthy. Its perfect! 10/10
I'm one of your Canadian followers. My wife has Alzheimer's and I find myself doing all the house work as well as the cooking. Thank you for the delicious recipes which are a treat. Easy to make, even for me and so clearly explained. You are an angel!
You are too for looking after your wife. God bless you.
Michael Abbey I Love seeing my fellow Canadians 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 and I’m seeing my heart out because I know how hard it is to see a family member and a loved one going through Alzheimer’s it is absolutely heartbreaking but you are a fabulous individual and a loving husband
What a great man! Love that you take care of her and cook homemade meals. You are what a husband (and wife) should be💖 God bless you
Cassie Miller y thank you ☺️
Yuki
At the higher prices of food, potatoes being among the less expensive, I needed something basic, so thank you. Thank you very much for providing a cream soup that'll help to comfort us through these difficult times. God bless you and yours, and all your subscribers. 🙏😘💖
I like to add celery fresh or seeds. Great for warning up in the winter. Cheese on top is good also.
Cat from Canada. Lately, I've been tiring of the bourgeoise food I've loved and grown accustomed to eating, mainly because the ingredients are harder to find now because of covid. Also, they tend to be complicated and though healthy and tasty, just not "soul-satisfying." How I found you, I'll never know, but am so thankful I did! You are so real... so down to earth, I just wish we were neighbors! Thank you so much for all you do here, you are such a refreshing Light! I am excited to make this soup, cornbread & salad for tonight's meal. Stay blessed.
I have made many “fancy “ potato soups this is wonderful! I used 1/2 whole milk 1/2 heavy cream!👍🏻and 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt ❤️

Hi Becky, this is Amanda from Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺 I just want to let you know that I made your potato soup today and my gosh, it is just amazing! So delicious and it turned out perfectly. Thank you so much for posting.
I made Tater Soup today and it was delicious. I added ham to mine for a little extra nutrition.
I'm from Melbourne, Australia, and my granny used to put leeks in her potato soup, which was delicious.
@@leah1tee367ooooh now that sounds tasty. ❤
Reminded me of my mom's potato soup, with 7 kid mommy and daddy it helped feed us out of the root celler.corn bread or biscuits. Loved it.Thank you and God bless your family. Be safe.
Thanks for sharing!! God Bless You!
Thank you very much for sharing your granny's recipe! Love simple old recipes. Nothing better! Also really enjoy listening and watching you cook. You're a blessing any time; but especially in these trying times. God bless you and your family!
You are so welcome! Thank you so much 😊 God is still in control! God Bless You!
I love your recipes. And l love how you bring God into your videos.
I live in Virginia, and potato soup was one of my favorite things to eat growing up. I hate that it has been complicated over the years. Literally everyone now makes it with cheese and broccoli. I hate that. I love the simplicity of this recipe and will definitely be fixing this. Thank you for keeping it simple. This video is most helpful. God bless you.
This is exactly the kind of “real food” recipe I’ve been looking for - whole, unprocessed ingredients. My mom used to make soup like this with ham in it.
When I was little my mom use to put hot corn bread in a glass for me and cover it with milk which I ate with a spoon.
I was raised on cornbread and milk here in South Carolina. I still like it and sometimes I have it for my supper. I like cornbread and sweet milk but with buttermilk is my favorite. Not fat free milk but whole buttermilk. I put salt and pepper in mine and eat raw onion with it. I usually put a good bit of pepper . It is soooo good.
I was also raised on cornbread and milk. My mama's cornbread was delicious! We also crumbled a biscuit into a cup of coffee, with milk and sugar.
I still eat it like that. Yummy
Elisabeth Seaton I grew up watching my mom eat cornbread and buttermilk. It has never appealed to me, but it sure bring backs my childhood memories!
Nothing better than hot cornbread and buttermilk. Makes a good quick breakfast to.
I just watched my first video. I was raised on a lot of potato soup, which my dad actually made for us. I love how you have a real kitchen, not one of those Hollywood production big kitchens. It's very homey and real like most of us have. Looking forward to being a subscriber. Love all your messages of faith, blessings, and love for our heavenly Father. God bless
PS Love your name, I'm a Becky too.
Simple homemade comfort food. God bless you too. I can't wait to see what else you'll be look'n👍😊
I love your simple, healthy recipes. Perfect for the hard times in front of us. God bless
Thank you very much, God bless you!
My grandmother used to make some soup and I would give anything if o had the recipe. It had small potatoes, onions, and tomatoe juice boy was it so good
Thank you so very very much for everything u do!!!! God Bless you Honey. I thank God Every Day for people like u.......💞🙏
Thank you! Just like Mom used to make. It's chilly today in Michigan. Perfect for it
Your recipe is just like I ate growing up, and I love it. I just found your channel and subscribed. It is so great to find a channel that has the same values as my family. I live in Raleigh, NC. God Bless!!!
Thank you 😊 Welcome to the Hillbilly Kitchen! God Bless You!
I just watched this from Kansas in January, and a bowl of potato soup sounds real good about now. Thank you.
Made this soup for 95 year old sick neighbor. She said it was the best she's ever eaten.
I just want to Praise God for your ministry!
You and Whippoorwill Holler have a lot of good info on healthy cooking. Thanks.
Man...when you said "my granny" and "tater soup"... I knew you were real. Daaaced onions.......subbed.
i love it toooooo...its so homey
My mom made this a lot during the winter with a big iron skillet of cornbread. We always put grated cheese on top after we put it in our bowl🥰 I can remember having this after I’d been outside sledding & playing in the snow!! Great memories♥♥♥♥
I made a big pot for my daddy today. He’s 93 & loves it. 👩🍳😋
Love potato soup....I'm making this tomorrow nite for dinner. Reminds me so much of my Moms soup. Thanks for the recipe...🥰
Looks so good. I had my daughter make me some today without onions or carrots or even milk. I was nauseous and I ate the whole thing! It settled my tummy and I will have it again before winter! lol
Juanita: Sounds like you had boiled potatoes or stewed potatoes.
Being from West Virginia, I relate to the Hillbilly label, even though I was from the "big city." I really appreciate your patriotic wall plaques and your openness about God's presence in our lives. Thank you for your recipes and your open and honest personality.
You are still such a blessing and a kind teacher. Thank you so much!
I really like the details you give like why to wait until the end of cooking to add salt and pepper. I highly recommend your videos for not only beginners but for anyone looking for all time favorites. Thank you for your no-nonsense recipes!
My mom made potato soup when I was a little girl. Going to make some soon I’m from up North where it tasted good in the winter--- we’re in the south now , not too cold here But still sounds good . May God Bless you all.
All I can say is "YUMMY!" Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your cooking wisdom... It's always so much better when it's good Ole fashioned homegrown goodness from our ancestors.... I never knew any of my gparents as they were all gone long before I came along... But I always wished I could stand next to my gma and gpa and soak up their knowledge... I feel like I get to experience just a little of that thru your channel.... God bless you and your family... 🙏🙏🙏🥰
Ohhh Becky, Tater soup is one of my very favorite soups !!!
I just enjoy your channel so very much.. and esep your love for our loving Lord above...
Have a blesses wkend .
Thank you for making the video. I love potato soup and cornbread.
94 degrees today here in South Texas. 🔥 😣 Cant wait for it to be "not so hot" so I can make soups. ❤
Native Texan myself. The humidity is HORRIBLE after Imelda here! Won't be cooking potato soup till we get some cooler weather.... hoping we get a winter this year!
@@fallingup8035
Ikr! I dont remember it being this hot so late in Sept. Ugh. The humidity is pretty high here as well. Forecast calls for upper 90s the next 7 days!!!
Even out dogs don't want to stay outside, they run out, do their business and are immediately at the back door wanting in! They don't like the humidity either! High 80s to 90s here all week, and humidity is 59% right now. We've had a few rain showers pass though coming off the gulf too, nothing major. Thank the lord!
Never understood the whole too hot for soup concept.
EVERY DAY IS A SOUP DAY that's my motto.
I don't care if it's 100° and 70% humidity, I'll eat soups and chilis.
@@rumplestiltskin3814 too hot meaning the kitchen gets so hot, im hot, I get crabby. I make chili in summer but my tiny house gets so hot. BUT! A cold front blew in this morning: rain, windy and 58 degrees. Yesterday it was 93!
Love your show. You are just adorable.❤️
THANK YOU FOR BLESSING US WITH SKILLS AND INFORMATION THAT SO MANY NEW COOKS NEVER GOT FROM MOTHERS WHO WORKED.
So nice of you. Thank you and God bless you!
😊Thank you Becky, God bless you and your family xxxx
Thank you for making something delicious and something non-intimidating! God bless you for sharing your gift of cooking!
My Dad ate this almost day during the depression
when i was a kid we ate potato soup all winter and I loved it then and i love it now!!!!!!!!
I have replaced my white salt with Himalayan pink salt it's a must, the white salt they have removed the minerals
Agree. Himalayan pink salt is not equal to table white salt. Go with other salts rather than table white salt. 70 of the 91 minerals u need is in himalyan salt. Table salt causes high blood pressure.
@Tony Ashford No, its the opposite way around
Himalayan salt is a must. It does not cause hi BP. White table salt causes hi BP.
@@LGAussie I learned they bleach it first. There is iodized and uniodized. They had to add iodine or not. Iodine is good for the body, but are they adding the good stuff or crap stuff? In himalayan salt you get 70 of the 91 minersal you need daily. Your choice so you decide to eat it or not. Table salt doesnt even look like real salt cause its been chemicalized.
Yes!!! I agree!!! I just bought some Himalayan, and it makes the soup taste so delicious!!!
Just like Mom used to make! And now I do it. Sometimes I add various things like mushrooms or ham or chicken, but it’s just as good without! May God bless you.
This morning when I woke up I was thinking about potato soup! It must be a sign from God for me to make this recipe. Hope you have a wonderful day I will definitely be trying this recipe. Thank you and god bless. 😊
We never made potato soup in our family but made bean and smoked ham soup. This sounds awesome. I love your channel and you are so loving and kind. We have to pray for our country.
There are possibly some new world order things being planned and maneuvered by and through the new cabinet as well bv as with the help of others who want to have one world religion, no cash, and control over us. I realize I sound extreme but we are a country For God and good and God does not want us to be oppressed by a dictatorship. I pray for our freedom and safety.
potato soup is one of our favorites! this recipe is like mine except I've never put carrots in mine, but I am going to try it next time I make it...love your recipes..& with corn bread it is so good💕
Mother always used canned milk...I love it.😍
I always keep it on hand and use it often
I will definitely try this one! I wish that you would do scalloped potatoes.
Toss some pork chops over the top of the scalloped potatoes while they're cooking and make a side vegetable like green bean casserole to get the kids to sit down to dinner.

So happy to find your lovely channel. God bless you 🙏❤️
So good, except for carrots, my Mom made this during cold winter months for the family after a busy day along with sandwiches.....comfort food for sure, and good nights sleep after.......!!!!!!
I’m enjoying your recipes and comments.
I really enjoy the old handed-down recipies.
It just seems like 'real'
food.
Always Wondering that’s because it IS real food.
Amen as this woman has the most calming effect on me as well and I thank God for her during these trying times as it makes me forget all the troubles going on in the world . God bless you ma'am and stay safe
I was raised on food like this. Thank you.
@@mildredlipschitz6541 you put into words exactly how I feel while watching this channel. Sweet and calming like Jesus.
Lol, "is" real food.
Such a nice show, I used to make something very similar to what you're making here, I took this to my late wife in the nursing home, she liked shredded parmesan cheese on hers
"A-walla-go"..... A true southern😍
I really love the simplicity of your cooking. Can't wait to make your grandma's wonderful full potato soup, 💛
I made this soup last week and again today. I feel good saying this recipe is good. Try it folks. My family loves it. Thank you for sharing this recipe.. 🥰
Looks so good. My Mother did not use carrots but used celery. That's how my Granny taught her. Either way will be delish.
Thank you for sharing! Looks great 😊
My mom used to make brown potato soup. She browned her butter until it was a deep golden brown and then added flour to make a roux. She added it to the cooked potatoes, diced onions, and the potatoes water. She seasoned it well with salt and pepper and it was delicious
I live in the mountains of North Georgia so I'm considered a HIllbilly. My grandmama and my mama cooked many things similar to you, but since I was a boy I didn't think to ask or think to get their recipes. Thank you for posting these videos because now I'm an old bachelor and I cook for myself. Thank you Becky and God Bless You.
I'm from the mountains of North Georgia, a wide spot in the road called (Young Harris) or Gum Log, Ga. Thanks for watching. God Bless You!
@@TheHillbillyKitchen I live in Blairsville, which is about 9 miles from Young Harris. My grandparents lived in Young Harris on Crane Creek Road. I know exactly where Gum Log is!
@@7hoopdawg hey Tim!! My mom did the same thing as we were growing up snd then over the years, I had been trying to get her recipes and over the last year or so, her potato soup recipe was one I’ve been having a craving for but I kept forgetting to ask her for the recipe and I’m may she got her vaccine and a week after she had the second dose she went downhill over night. She lost her battle to what was supposed to protect her June 28th and we laid her to rest July 3rd. I never did get my tater soup recipe or her cabbage rolls recipe that was the best in the world, and I’m sure there’s more that will pop up as time goes and it’s just me that I’m cooking for so this is perfect for me.
This recipe looks a lot like what mom made, but i think her recipe was milk based, not water, I swear she used milk which is probly why I’ve never found a bowl of tater soup that ever remotely tasted as good as hers. I’ll try this recipe but swap milk for the water and see what I get, never know buddy!
I’m just north of ya a bit up here in NC. I can’t wait to try this recipe, I’ve been wanting a bowl of moms tater soup for a good while now! Take care my friend and be safe out there!
@@1982MCI Hi, so sorry for your loss of your dear Mother, that breaks my heart! ♥️

Yummy that looks amazing thank you for sharing...
Your the blessing Becky
OH MY WORD!!!!
I just made this for when my husband gets home from work. I just tasted it and it is FABULOUS! I can't believe I've been ruining tater soup all these years by overdoing it with bullion. I left bullion out and made it exactly how you did and it's SO MUCH BETTER when you just keep it simple.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING!🤗
Glad you liked it!! Thanks and God Bless You!
Love it! So simple and you make me feel like cooking can be fun and easy, too. Thank you.

I’ve been looking for a good potato soup recipe and now I’ve finally found it. It’s exactly what I was looking for, simple and clean. Thank you so much! ⚡️💖⚡️
You are so welcome! Thank you and God Bless You!
As I have watched some of your videos I see your kitchen has changed and I like your new island extension island. Gives you so much more work space.
That's one of my favorite soups!!
I really love this recipe!
I woke up this morning thinking about potato soup, and since you’re my (go to) person, I wanted to make yours. So trying it today. Thanks for all the great recipes you share. I’ve made your chicken and dumplings recipe a few times already. Keep God in your heart
I make mine almost the same. My Grandma always used celery instead of carrots. But I'm sure both are fantastic. I was born & raised in West Virginia. I live in Wisconsin now & I've gotten many a compliment on my potato soup. Definitely no need for added broth. Thanks for sharing. ❤
Thanks for the basic potato soup. I had done various potato soups over the years and actually forgot how to get back to just plain simple. You had some really good tips in this video. One thing I do like though is chopped green onions on top after it has cooked. I do like the idea of adding dried potato flakes if I get it too runny like I did the last time I made it. I must remember that.
This is me, having learned my lesson, coming to watch the video before I follow the recipe in your Verses & Vittles
I am making this for my church community; and I like that you mention how to substitute milk for other kinds of diary. You explain so well the function of each ingredient so it makes sense to me whether to add it or omitted. Thank you for keeping it real
Thank you for this channel. 🙏🏻😀😃😄
It’s getting cold here. I’ll be making this soon. I love the simplicity of this recipe. Thank you Becky ❤️🙏
Definitely going to make this potato soup! Thank you, Becky. God Bless You & Yours. ❤️🙏 From a New Jersey Fan❤️🙏
Love me some tater soup with cornbread
This city girl can't wait to try this!
5months pregnant ... this soup looks like exactly what I have been craving . Can’t wait to make this
Q
So is every thumbs up on this comment pregnant too?
Sarah Sanchez I think it's just people being nice and acknowledging her happy event.
Use pink Himalayan or Meterainan salt. It cuts back on sodium and adds minerals, (maco and trace), that our bodies are missing in this western diet.

Heyyyy, I'm a brand new subscriber! I saw the video for your 4-ingredient cast-iron skillet bread recipe, and how wonderful it is that you can vary the milk, AND the oil/fat/lard/butter!
Ever since I starting driving at 16, (about 1979), I was prepper-minded and always had a survival pack in the trunk of the car. There were granola bars, can of soda, sm. bottle of juice, maybe a can of beans, canned peaches & mandarins, a blanket, tiny car pillow, t.p., etc. I suppose I'm survival-minded because my mother was born in 1934, was raised on a dairy farm, and all of the depression-era recipes & kitchen tips from her and her mother that she felt were important to teach to us kids...those old world traditions in the kitchen that I value so much. So many good things to be made from an endless combination of good wholesome basic ingredients that I've always stocked in my kitchen, thanks to my mother, who is still alive n kicking at 88. She actually turns 88 today, Sept. 12.
But your recipes and your wonderful personality are a gift from God, my dear! I look forward to watching many more of your videos.
In the 40ies, my mother used Pet evaporated milk
Haha! I was just dreading a second trip to the store today, for milk for my potato soup when I read your post and recalled that I had a can of Pet in the pantry! Thanks...
I use can evaporated milk too. I sautee my onions n carrots in a stick of butter too
Also bag of frozen corn
Thank you! I have 2 big baked potatoes in the fridge that will be perfect for this. Lunch will be potato soup. Yum! Makes me hungry watching you. And cornbread like yours.
I am a new subscriber as of about two weeks ago. Your recipes are fantastic! Your family is very blessed to have you and I know they enjoy all your cooking.
I love your content I find you very entertaining. God bless and prayers to you and your family.
My condolences for your precious darlin husband, I'm from California.
I love potato soup! Just subbed, & looking forward to seeing more of your videos.🙂
Thanks for subbing! God Bless You!
THANK YOU! This is the ultimate comfort food I remember from my childhood. My mama always cooked it for me when I was sick. I've never added carrots, but otherwise, this is exactly how I make my mama's recipe.
Good word on the MSG. That stuff was exposed more than 25 years ago with some at least three hour-long TV programs. Asian restaurants quit using it and put signs up stating "No MSG." Your tater soup sure looks good.
Already tried chicken and biscuit casserole - loved it - saving this one- thank you for preserving and sharing these gems - you're a blessing as well
I Love You!!! I will be making your Potatoes Soup recipe and cornbread today as it is freezing cold with lots of snow here in Frederick, Oklahoma. Hoping the electricity homes out. Lots of people in Texas and Oklahoma are suffering in this crazy weather. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way God shines through you onto us. Blessings, barb
Thank you for your kind words. I will pray that you and your family stay warm. God bless you!
My mom grated all the ingredients and boiled them in the water. Then when the veggies were tender she would blend the ingredients with a blender. I use a Braun emulsion hand blender..then we bring the soup off the boil, don’t boil the milk, add butter salt and pepper to taste and that’s it and it’s delicious..add sour cream, bacon , cheddar cheese and chives as a topping to the soup and enjoy it also makes the soup thick and creamy this way.we also use canned evaporated milk, you can use reg milk, but this works better..
You can never go wrong with a 100 year old recipe. This one is awesome! Thanks, Becky!
