Sloppy Mechanics . Hey Matt. I have a built 468 BBC. It has pop up pistons with iron 781 ported heads. Since discovering YOUR awesome works, I now have the LS bug. I've obtained an 03 4.8 & an 07 5.3 from a "classic" 07. I really want to explore the little engines but i have an Amazon gt 45 kit & can't decide if it should go on the big block or build one of the truck engines. Right off the bat, I would need to buy new pistons for the big block. Any thoughts?
Matthew Neuforth . Ok ok! The saying has always been "no replacement for displacement "! Just checking. Everyone here will forget more than I'll ever learn. So I'm just tapping into tge knowledge! Thanks a ton.
I love your videos. You give true accurate information, I would love to see more videos on HP Tuners. On how to use and what to tune. Where to start tuning. This would be fantastic, thanks for taking the time to read this.
Just got done watching basically the whole no bs series (minus the cellphone clips). My brain is melting from the info i have absorbed, but I now truly see why people love the boosted ls.
You are one of the very few that actually gives unbiased clean comparison videos of modifications on cars. It’s pretty awesome to have information that isn’t just a clickbait waste of time. Thanks for all your videos. “Boost killer ... where did the boost go? You lost boost with the manifold?!?!” “ I can has boost pressure”
I've had that same problem. It's the converter getting tight and unloading sending vibrations through the motor. The tune is doing its job saving the motor from bending a rod when the converter does that.
Currently crying at the intro , I felt like I was watching the beginning of a James Bond movie then a saw “bewst” on the charge pipping. Love this Chanel. Also he needs to make “struggle street” shirts
I understand, being a budget build, a new $1000 converter was not in the budget, but what converter should I be looking at for a similar weight vehicle? (with a 4.8L stock flywheel/LS1 intake/truck decap inj./ "sloppy stage 2" cam and Pac1218 valvesprings/VS billet 7875/pump premium) Thanks for all your research and information!
I skip all commercials on RUclips except on your channel. I watch them in hopes that it'll make you more money off of them so you can buy more parts. Keep up the good work.
I'm currently looking for a Colorado to slap my LS in. Question for you...did yours already have a V8 in it or was this a complete swap? Just curious how tough it will be to pull off. Thanks for any insight.
Should i buy the Ebay sheet aluminum intake? Its like 650$CAD comes with fuel rails and 92mm throttlebody and look pretty good. Wonder how they flow and if it will kill power in a boosted app :/
Those are pump gas boost levels and making 600 to the tire on a mini motor. There's a reason people are knocking on the 7s on gen4 4.8s in a light car. In this combo with the boost levels you're running increasing the gas ratio may be desirable to make the fuel system go farther. The boost levels you're running aren't really that high before you hit the limits of the converter. Camming up and bringing in the power higher up is possibly part of the formula that lets the engine live the way it does. It's kind of walking a line between rotational forces vs compressive ones.
Hey Matt, how do you and Jamie like the red truck? I have a 1990 K5 blazer with a 350 sbc, 700 R4, 10 bolt, and I was thinking about swapping in a mild 4.8 with a turbo and just bolting it on to the 700 r4 and go for like 4 psi, or go all out and swap in a 4l80e with a 14 bolt and shoot for like 500hp, but that would require new driveshafts as well.
This is some great stuff and the future testing on various injectors, is hugely needed as there is NO WHERE else to get this information. You receive a dougbert's thumbs UP! BTW, what is the GM part number for that intake??? I keep finding "fits Trailblazer SS" ones, with PNs 12580420 and 12620308. Found 25383922 for a part number
I know you have a few videos of hp tuning but would you be able to give us a 5 or 10 minute one on how your running with the boost? Just curious if you still add more to PE or where you make you large fuel adjustments. Thanks again for all you do!
Matt, thanks a lot for all that you share with us and preemptive congrats on 60k subscribers. When you do the injector video can you talk a little about idle characteristics of each? With such a comically low pulse width on the 210s, I am curious to know idle pulse width and how well you can control idle AFRs
You killed me with the music that started out. Sounded like the truck should be in a dig in friggin India or something. The growth in your cinematic abilities is noted and appreciated :)
Matt, have you ever had someone press the gas pedal all the way while you look to see if the throttle body blade opens all the way? Just curious as I have a similar 92 mm tb and it doesn't open fully despite an adjusted foxbody throttle cable (opens the stock 78 mm tb fully).
What was ambient temps on dyno runs? My guess not enough to make such a big jump, but may make up some of that power IF it was cooler less humidity on trail intake.
I’m replacing my (bad) 317 heads on my 6.0 next week, and installing a set of reman 799’s.... I wonder if it’s worth the $140 to swap intakes to gain a little hp? Does the fuel rails and all the sensors swap over with no issues? Any other issues swapping intakes vs the truck intake? TIA👍
Matt, Great vid as usual! Quick question. I currently have one walbro 255 inline on my early ls1 with twins. I am about to tune to about 10-12 psi and expect to run out of fuel or get close. You usually use it tank pumps. I have a fuel cell and prefer to keep inline pump. Any recommendations aside from adding another 255 or is that my best direction?
18:39 awesome i was hoping you was going to test the throttle bodies in seeing how it effects the power on that intake. I look forward to that. That bewst always gets me.
I mean boost is just a measure of restriction. It would be interesting to see logs of both the 16lb vs 19lb making similar power. Would the airflow (lbs/m) and injector duty cycle reflect the power output regardless of boost if the afr was the same? I guess air temp and the turbo going to a different part of its compressor map are a variable.
It could be fine for most but my speaker setup sucks and I can barely hear you talking. Probably just my setup but I could hear the dyno pulls great so I thought maybe the vocals could get a little gain on the next video? Thanks as always
I have an 03 4.8 & an 07 (classic) 5.3. I've ordered a GT 45 kit from Amazon to put in my 88 Chev 1/2 ton. I'd like to do the 4.8 but with better parts in the 5.3 should I consider it before the 4.8? I'm only really looking for 4-600 hp. Just for street playing. Anybody?
Daniel's Speed and Performance They both have 706 heads. Super Chevy just compared stock heads & even tho they didn't flow as much, the 706s made 20 more HP. I read somewhere that 05 & newer have Gen III rods. Does that mean the Gen II in my 07 Classic?
At what power level do u think it’s worth it to port my stock Tb? Right now it’s a stock ls6 intake and stock Tb. Looking for 1200wheel with a 370” vsr488 and trickflows
Hello Matt! Firstly let me introduce myself my name is Aaron from Australia. I've only been following your channel for the last 6 months and have found all your vids entertaining and educational. Through all your hard work you have opened my eyes and have showed me the true potential of the Ls family of engines. A believer in turbo charging and how important the ability to tune correctly is, up until now turbo charging was a pipe dream for myself mainly because of the cost. Anyway enough rambling keep up the great work.
In "Dont BS me ep3" Matt referenced the Elgin E1839P as his stage 2 cam. On his wiki page he references the Elgin E1840P CAM with 228/230 duration as his stage 2. The Elgin E1839P has 220/224 duration, and is cheaper than the E1840p

It was not effective, particularly at the beginning. As to not be the guy that's just bitching about it with no solution, are there any moderately priced trinkets on Amazon that can help you with this task? The Sloppy mail bag has been pretty grim lately and I can pull an oar if it helps the channel.
I bought a gen3 intake with a return rail and injectors for like 70 bucks on eBay. I also bought a Gen4 truck intake (4 bolt tb, returnless rail with injectors for $100 on eBay). I was able to swap the rail from gen3 to the gen 4 intake no problem essentially making the best of both worlds.

After doing more research, this is the intake I have. ruclips.net/video/vehSQMudKHc/видео.html It came with a stainless returnless system so I put a return rail from the gen 3 intake on it. It has the larger 4bolt tb but I think its the same as the gen 3 intake. Sorry about that. I definitely flopped on this one.
old vid, but still very interesting data analysis
Get ready for TBSS intakes listed on eBay for $450 now. #sloppytax
Jess Neal you can by a acdelco original replacement intake for $150 free shipping on eBay just looked.
lol i think your right
$140 on rock auto
Part number please? What intake is he using?
David Denman 12580420 in Rock Auto. It's a bare manifold, no rails.
80hp gain on low bewst between the intake, tb and Heads is some nice efficiency gains.
Hell yeah buddy
Sloppy Mechanics .

What size injectors on this?
I've had that same problem. It's the converter getting tight and unloading sending vibrations through the motor. The tune is doing its job saving the motor from bending a rod when the converter does that.

that dramatic movie intro though...all the feels
Can we get a full rundown on what is needed for a tbss/nnbs intake to work on gen 3s
Your work is so underrated. Thank you
Working man’s hero!!!!!!!! Wooooooo!!!
sorry but 8 counts consistent KR on DL, you got somethign makin noise in the engine, it may not have been pre-det, but something wasn't happy.
It has no knock sensors, LOL
@@SloppyMechanics then that is quite the conundrum, in guessing you removed the fore and aft sensors under the intake in the valley plate.
So is it just a direct swap? I have a 03 2500hd with a 5.3l dbw in it all stock.
Thanks again Matt, great setup, look forward to the new project..
Matt, Thank you for a great video. I do appreciate the inclusion of RPM data and the conversation around it.
Someone send this man a fast 102 for testing!
I was able to weld up a return style return rail with the TBSS you just need to extend the passenger side tube to ththe rail by about 2 inches.
Great vid Matt!!!! Love my 5.3 with TBSS intake. Shoulda got them yesterday guys. Price just doubled.

You are the Hero we doesn't deserve, but the one we need ;)
Surprising to say the least, makes sense why the ported heads were so disappointing. That means the 1K 6.0 was done the hard way...
Would be cool to see if a FAST or Holley intake can make as good numbers.
Hey Matt, how do you and Jamie like the red truck? I have a 1990 K5 blazer with a 350 sbc, 700 R4, 10 bolt, and I was thinking about swapping in a mild 4.8 with a turbo and just bolting it on to the 700 r4 and go for like 4 psi, or go all out and swap in a 4l80e

I don’t recall seeing an ls1,2,6 manifold comparison like this to the lq manifold from you. Great info and video. Love the channel.
Charley H send him said intakes and he will make it happen lol
I was expecting to see some camels running across the desert with the music lol
iron is, that track is called "desert caravan" in youtubes free audio library
I'm a simple man. I see a sloppy video, I click like.
Looking forward to decapped flex injector results.
Hey Matt, your music introduction was a nice touch. Can you share any information about the artists name or title. Thanks.

It goes 0-100 easily with a stock blazer throttle cable
What was ambient temps on dyno runs? My guess not enough to make such a big jump, but may make up some of that power IF it was cooler less humidity on trail intake.
Dyno has weather station and does corrections, I can Dyno a car all year round and it makes the same power
For plumbing fuel lines do you use fuel injection hose clamps or do you use the actually push lock fittings in the fairmonts
Push lock
I didn’t realize that i clicked on a pewdiepie video..
Very interested in the TB test as I have same intake with smaller OEM TB vs. China TB.
TIA👍

Gas or ethanol? AEM 380 is 150~ dollars and flows close to 700hp worth or you can get a 4303 and it’ll flow 2000 HP for 500$
Sloppy Mechanics gas
Sloppy Mechanics I wonder if the 3/8 return would be enough for the 4303??
18:39 awesome i was hoping you was going to test the throttle bodies in seeing how it effects the power on that intake. I look forward to that.

Lots of variables if you make a motor more efficient sometimes you use less injector to make more power
Kind of same question. If you have meet your HP goal is there an advantage to making the same power with less boost?
russellbroadwell less restriction means less heat, it will help with engine temps and prolong turbo life
Nice tests, great results. Very interested in your next round of injector testing.
Great result. Would be great it you could turn up the volume for your speaking parts as I can't hear you at work! lol
Fk really? Audio again I can re-edit and upload I’ll watch it and maybe re upkoad
It could be fine for most but my speaker setup sucks and I can barely hear you talking. Probably just my setup but I could hear the dyno pulls great so I thought maybe the vocals could get a little gain on the next video? Thanks as always
One day this would be neat to see with v6s. I have a 96 POS Gmc Jimmy with a vortec which I might experiment with eventually.
Ranger Jay dont bother I just put a 70mm on mine. Unless you have a marine intake swap your never gunna have enough injector

Thank you for all of your research . Is it possible to show on a graph the gains from the stock heads & intake to the tbss & ported heads ?
At what power level do u think it’s worth it to port my stock Tb? Right now it’s a stock ls6 intake and stock Tb. Looking for 1200wheel with a 370” vsr488 and trickflows

Depending on the video I did stock 862’s and ported 706’s stock casting truck heads
Looks like it's time for a better converter!
Lets get this comment to the top! I want to see 800hp!
Send it!
Where did you get the grille
Super interesting stuff Matt! I am excited to find out about the throttle body contribution when you do that test.
Wonder what the gains for us N/A guys would be...
Dear sir,
Would you like a four bolt truck intake to use with your 92mm throttle body to see what it'll do?
I like that! "Bewst goez Here"!
this is great and all but I'm ready for another massive rolling burnout
Hey Matt could the random Knock be from a failing lifter?
it sure is possible any noise up top could flag it
Are you still using the o2 sensor that you modified with two outputs/plugs?

Can u compare a Holly ram vs tbss intake
That's a pretty good result. I'm pretty impressed
These intros are too nice, I thought MotorTrend was back on youtube
So excited wee came out 😀
Test a LS6 Intake !!!!! PLEASE
I'm a simple man I see sloppy I like then I watch
What did you lose down low?
I wonder if it would be worth swapping one into my 5.3 na Silverado that I daily just for a little more power
bore to 5.7 for "just a little more power"
Check and see if your video editor has some kind of audio normalization during encoding. Lots of loud and quiet parts mashed together bruh
How much hp gain without the portef heads

This is with the ported heads?
Correct mild ported 706’s
Sloppy Mechanics awesome, thank you!
I love this format of video for comparison!
The China TB and SS intake may not make such a big difference with bone stock heads.
Stock Gen 3 intake may not be as much of a restriction in that combination.
jmo
100% proof that the leas restriction through the air pump the more power potential we get EVEN under boost.
Lower boost/More power FTW
What stall is the converter
I blame your intro music for the overly long Pantene commercial featuring Priyanka Chopra
So would you think this wold be worth the cost to do the swap on a NA 4.8?
Darin Henningsgard gm started putting them on the later model 4.8 and 5.3 for a reason. The power was rated higher in those years too. Just saying.
Guy in Houston wants $200 for a TBSS intake with fuel rails. Another $50 with injectors.
