The trick play totally worked. It just tricked the wrong team.
😂
Exactly
I’m crying bro… the more & more homie explains it… I’m dying fam LMFAO!!!😂🤣😂
@peterconley
Do you even know what a trick play is you simpleton?
The worst play in NFL history is marshawn lynch not running the ball
No, it isn't.
He wouldn't have made it like he never made a few that game!
ECCENTRICERIC69 I want want your smoking.
@@ECCENTRICERIC69 bro I'm a pats fan and I fully believe Marshawn Lynch wanted it enough to make that run real fucking quick
ECCENTRICERIC69 Hightower dislocated his shoulder on the play before the INT he would’ve ran in donte Hightower even said he was worried they would run it again cuz he knew there was no way they’d be able to stop him
That's the worst play call, but the fake punt was definitely a worse play.
It was a good thing Troy Polamalu wasnt in the C gap on that play
Fernando Bahena he would have shaved years off pat’s life😂
Had to make that an even 200
Did we ever find out which game that was? I know he said it was the Steelers in Pittsburgh on SNF, but I can't find that clip anywhere. I NEED to see that before I die
Troy Po-lamb-a-loo
Us real Pat McAfee fans knows this.
For some reason, he explained it well enough for me to actually understand what the purpose of this play was
Fax
Doesn’t change the fact that, for as much practice as they did for this play, the team still lined up wrong and were penalized.
So even if they snapped the ball and caught them with too many men on the field, it would have been negating penalties. So execution error on multiple parts not just on snapper.
It wasn't that hard. They did a fake formation to try and get the patriots to sub different personnel and they could possibly draw a penalty for too many men. But the Patriots called their bluff. And I think the formation was illegal anyways.
@@ManhattanProject9 You're wrong. I know this is old but if the refs catch a team with 12 man on the field and that extra player isn't trying to get out they'll throw the flag before the snap. So Colts would get the 1st down. Problem was the coach adding more tidbits to the trick play without telling everyone involved.
It depends on if refs call it though. If they are running off then it takes the snap to create the penalty.
As this story progresses Griff Whalen goes from 5''8" to 5'4". He's 5'11". 😂
McAfee really thinks he's a comic...whoever's gassing him up, please stop! Let him go back to computer virusing or whatever else punters don't do.
Field Keeling but he is funny, you tried though.
Mikel Denslow no this guys comment made me laugh more than pat did so basically u suck

Worst play in NFL history: *exists.*
Giants running on a qb sneak on 3&9: Allow us to introduce ourselves.
Still not worse than Dak running it up the middle
jets: butt fumble exists
Definitely one of the dumbest but not the worst
Danny Dimes on a golden breakaway run: Happy worst play to the ground!
@@selltheteam4448 and the Cowboys said I got one more in me
It's pretty awesome that Pat McAfee was both on that team when that happened and then later had the perfect platform to actually explain it to everyone. I like how he stood up and did it so formally too like "The people deserve to know the truth."
Standup comedy bit...
@@carrite The contrast against how he's usually behind the desk says, "I'm not hiding from this."

Ok thanks for letting us know that😂
Damn, you don't like your grandfather?
I was at this game and even my 12 year old son was dumbfounded
"Dad you said we were at the colts game, why are the jets on the field?" Lol
Haha he was happy? Dumbfounded is what that means right?

Alright, this gives me a lot of clarification
First comment
How did you manage to make an 11 minute video about a 10 second football play, and not show the play once?
thank you!! wtf
Dude this was ridiculous.
NFL has really strict copyright rules for game footage, I've noticed this on a lot of social media
You have to pay (a lot) to show it.
Copyrights make that expensive to do. But any serious football fan has seen it a dozen or more times, so most people don't need it.
What is particularly great about this play is that the Colts decided to try it against the Patriots. A team that had not called a time out with 1 minute left in the Superbowl the year before, backed up on their own 1-yard-line. They thought they might get THAT team to panic and call timeout or jump. If this play had been run against about 26 other teams, it would have succeeded.
Also, a hat tip to the fact that Edelman, who had been back to receive the punt 50 yards downfield, is about 7 steps away from making the tackle, because the play took THAT long.
Only Pat McAfee knows how to be part of both the worst play in NFL history and the greatest onside kick of all time! What an absolute legend!
I’ll never forget this play. The best.
I was lucky enough to watch it live. I thought someone had put something in my beer lol
This play needs its own spot in the HoF
I always wondered what the hell was going on
How would this play ever work if they were line up illegally? So if New England were to substitute wouldn’t it just be off setting penalties?
He tells this story like he’s a stand up comedian. I love it.
He did do some stand up comedy so i guess it makes sense lol
Quote of the year
"Please don't kill a man on the internet" Colts PR guy 😂
“Illegal formation. The whole right side was not on the line of scrimmage. Offense. This penalty is declined the result is first down for New England”
- The referee in the game.
Incredible Jake
That is what I’m confused about how would this play ever work if they were line up illegally? So if New England were to substitute wouldn’t it just be off setting penalties?
Formations are not illegal until the snap of the ball.
@@connoruzlik4793 because the play got messed up on field. The guys who ran to the left were supposed to line their front 5 on the ball, instead they all lined up off the ball.
This isn’t a illegal formation
Chuck Door yes it is an illegal formation based on the fact that 7 people need to be on the line of scrimmage for it to be legal and if you can count there are not 7 people on the line, you’re just an idiot saying it’s legal when you don’t even know what a legal formation is supposed to be hahah
So basically it was Chuck Pagano's fault
What’s new
The ball wasnt supposed to be snapped though, take the penalty
AsTheWorldSpinsAgain yeah but chuck was also the one to tell the qb to do a hard count. so, in the end, chuck pagano’s fault.
And you know, without telling the emergency fake-center(who’s a WR) to NOT snap the ball even after the hard count
@@nicolesimpsonsdog4442 it was all circumstantial from start to finish, a bit of everybody's fault
That cowboys last play against the nines just topped this
This will probably get lost in the sea of comments, but i absolutely love this show, I watch it every single day, i love learning more about the nfl especially from a previous players perspective! this show is a hilarious way to get the facts and learn more about this amazing sport and its players!
Not a player, a punter. Some would even say, a person
@Prick Flair dude. What do you think I was saying?
That’s how i feel about Danger Talk, Russell Wilson’s show. Like he was saying how that 2 point conversion to Luke Wilson in the 2014 NFC Championship wasn’t what was originally planned at all
You have top comment now. You didn’t get lost in the sea of comments! Congrats!
@@thejam7129 lol
No longer the worst play. Patriots just topped it vs the Raiders. Last play lateral picked by Chandler Jones with only Mac there to defend.
I still think this is the dumbest play. He says they practiced the play and it worked but everyone forgets not only did the play not work but they got a penelty for illegal formation so how did the play work in practice. Still the dumbest play in NFL history.
@MegaTravioli
The Colts play wasn’t even legal so you can’t put that bad lateral ahead of the Colts play. The Colts actually put the horrible play in practice. The Patriots play actually had a chance of succeeding, if the pass is caught by Mac Jones, there is a 1% chance that it works, while the Colts play had 0% chance of working. There were two guys right next to Colt Anderson. The Colts didn’t even attempt to run a play. The Patriots at least tried to run a play. It failed miserably, but you can’t put say that the play is as bad as the Colts play. The guy got tackled immediately.
I'll still go with the Giants only needing one kneel-down for the win against the Eagles, but Bob Gibson called for a run, Pisarcik objected, Csonka tells Pisarcik "Don't give me the ball." Then Pisarcik, not knowing that Csonks really meant it, turns around to give it to him and it gets knocked from his hands, scooped by Edwards, and they get a loss. In Vegas the Pats only turned an overtime game into a loss.
I don't believe the Raiders Patriots play was by design that was merely the result of poor on the spot decision making.
@@DekalbNIU2013 I disagree. If you have followed ex Belichick players, you know they dont fart, w/o his approval.

any play that takes 11 minutes to explain is probably bound to fail.
The Patriots probably watched more Colts practice film than Griff Whalen
They needed a few laughs.

Really? Because it sounds to me he is trying to throw him under the bus. Even though they were lied up illegally, and there is literally no possible way this trick could work. Pagano should have been fired that day.
Brian Cobbett He explained what happened. The why, how, what, when and who. No one was thrown under the bus. If anybody was throwing anyone under the bus. It’s you. Asking for a man to be fired after the play. No even at the end of the season or the game. That moment it happened. To me, seems kinda harsh.

I think Dallas may have de-throned you with the final play in the 2023 Divisional playoffs against the 49ers. They had an ineligible man downfield that wasn't called because their formation was so bizarre even the officials were confused.
I love that they throw up a random image, and he’s like “Yea that was a completely different play” and names what happened in said play
The best thing was you standing up for your team mate. That's awesome man!

Pat McAfee is a national treasure.
This story is a lesson for everyone:
1. Communication matters. Get everybody on the same page at all times.
2. Don't try too hard to be clever.
McAfee is a modern Grandpa Simpson when it comes to storytelling.
Yeah I think the Patriots just 1-upped this play today.
It's 2022 and I literally just rewatch this to remind myself on how clean Pats desk used to be.

I still remember watching with a friend and him quoting the water boy in disbelief, “that leads me to my next point, don’t smoke crack” 😂
But I remember someone throwing the ball on the 1 yard line to lose a superbowl
Edit* 2nd worst play
There was also the field goal that straight up lost the game when a touchdown was the only way to win. I’d say that’s the worst play because there is no scenario in which that play works. There’s at least a plan behind the play that could’ve worked.
The Pats were selling out to stop the run, even Marshawn Lynch could have been stuffed at the goal line
@@WMDistraction I know that play, it actually made their win probability decrease.
Matt Derro haha lol nice one. Yes agreed worst play call. but yah, it was a solid play. just amazing defense. that's all. no mistake like this fake punt deal.

Oh come on... I knew in real time it was an attempt to confuse and get a penalty. The details about botched execution are meaningless...
@@jamesbarrick3403 hey james, i respectfully disagree. the details (at least for me) were the whole point.
As a Freshman football player in High School and we used this play once we called it the Colts Confusion and we got a touchdown with it.
How’d you get touchdown running a play where there is no play called?! There literally was no play. No receivers went out. No blockers. You didn’t run THIS play.
Andy Sanders Actually we did. We just changed it a little. There was me the snapper who has to protect the one guy behind me. The other line moved to the other side of the field. Then the WRs stood beside them. Mind you This is high school so they got confused and boom wide open WR went in

"The worst play" is referring to the actual play in the playbook.
It wasnt scripted for him to run the wrong way.
Amazing. Intriguing that the amount of relative interest (very little) I had and the sport media’s obsession (very much) to talk about it on every show, but their lack of interest to explain it, that it took me four & a half years to get an answer.
