I have a 2011 with a V6 AWD. Bought her with 40k on the clock. My trans. engages right away in drive with about a 2-3 second delay engaging reverse. Hard shift to 2nd gear when cold. She now has 270k and no change in the trans...better or worse. Been this way since day one. Overall has been a great and reliable vehicle.
wrench light means major drivetrain problem and the drive by wire throttle thats controlled by the computer will no longer respond and only limp to safety.
This was a fun video. I am glad you went on a longer test drive. To us inexperienced guys, we would have thought to take it on a longer ride. It also teaches us to not go alone in case you have to push it. I wouldnt sell that car so dirty inside. Go to the dollar store, get some cleaner, get some magic eraser and clean away. Then i would still take to to a detailer after that. Get a steering wheel cover at Autozone. Try to at least make it appear in good shape. $500 is too much. I wonder if there is a follow up video. BTW, I think the mold comes from the car being closed for a long time the humidity if Florida and a closed car is bad for interiors if not aired out.

I can't believe he offered $500 for that trash can. He clearly would be in over his head mechanically, I'd be surprised if he could identify a socket wrench in a tool box! Why would you buy a car that dies on the test-drive if you have no means of fixing it yourself?? Auto repairs are expensive enough here in the Mid-West, I am sure in Miami they are out of sight! I feel sorry for him if he bought this, I really think he would be throwing his money away. Then again maybe it was a simple chewed wire and he could flip it for $2,500 if he really cleaned it up.
That's a chance worth taking if the price was right, but as mentioned I think 500 was very reasonable considering it could equally need engine, trans rebuild too, on top of the fact that it definitely needs full interior and a lot of bodywork. I'd look at something like that as a set of good used rubber and some other parts for ebay, no more tbh
My grandparents bought a 03 Windstar van from a car lot once. They just needed it to keep at the house in Florida. It was carpet interior and my grandma took a water hose and cleaned the thing out, and my grandpa closed it up way to early before it dried out completely. They drove it from Kentucky to Florida and parked it in the garage with the windows up and it sat in the humid heat down there for months. When we went down for vacation it had molded and had mildew all over the seats, all over the dash, turned the AC on and shit blew out of the air vents. I got a headache every time I rode in it. So they sold it to my dad for cheap, and even when he had it it stunk.
I bought a 2001 Expedition with all the ashtrays and most of the interior full of cigarette ash. Oh and a deer was gutted then transported in the back. I only confirmed it was a deer because of the short coarse hair that was stuck under some interior pieces. But at the end of the day I got the donor part's I needed for my own vehicle. It now sits in my back yard with all the windows open and a gutted interior. Still smells lol!

A 2010 escape is "way better than the older ones"? No way dude. An 01-02 with with a v6 and full time 4x4 switch can actually get somewhere in extreme weather and off road conditions. Ford's worst mistake was not further engineering these with Mazda. Now they are unreliable rattle traps without a real 4x4 option. My 01 had 280K on it with original engine/trans when my family outgrew it, and minus some suspension work and coil packs here and there, never had a single issue. To say the 06-12 models are in any way mechanically superior to the 01-05 models is kind of silly,

Here is a tip. On all Ford cars and trucks if the yellow wrench light pops up it idicates that you have a transmission failure.
