i have a 2001 grand marquis with 143k on it still runs like new i got for a $1000 i love it these and the crown victoria are awesome cars they last forever its a shame ford quit making them
@D-MAXX _"90% of the time it will be a previous police interceptor that is ragged out with very high mileage"_ Another one may be a CVPI that has relatively low mileage but a lot of idling hours. That's another one to watch out for because, as you know, excessive idling is also not good for a car.
I have one the same year, 122k miles on it got it with 106k, I run it hard with the FD on emergency responses, the car takes an ass kicking but just keeps on trucking
Hey Al. I own and operate a taxi company with 8 cars. I have 4 Marquis 2 town cars and 2 crown vic police interceptors. I just added car 9 A 2011 Marquis LS one owner. 60k miles. This will be my business car. I've had nothing but good luck with all above mentioned cars. Jan 2017 I bought another 2011 Marquis LS one owner fleet vehicle well maintained and in superb condition 209k put in service late Feb 2017 current mileage 306k all original.
Keep it!!!!! I bought min with 165k miles and is still running strong at 223k.... 1 year later. Those 4.6l run 1million Mike's easy if you take care of it
There's a good chance it's the same problem that mine just developed. The hot/cold blend door stopped working properly and apparently that's a common problem. When I change temperature from hot to cold or vice/versa sometimes the door won't move. The actuators go bad and are kind of a bitch to get to under the dash.
Just found ur channel. I bought a $500 04 marquis with roasted forward clutch. $250 for parts and oil and so far it’s been good. It was a ton of work getting it out and putting it in but pulling the 4r70w apart was really cool.
Error Code P1299 is defined as Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor Detected Engine Overheating Condition. This means there’s an overheat condition, which is caused by multiple factors, such as a faulty thermostat, and low engine coolant. This error code is a manufacturer-specific trouble code, meaning it does not apply to all vehicles equipped with OBD-II system or vehicles made since 1996 up to present. Rather, it applies to select manufacturers, such as Ford and Lincoln. Specifications on the definition, troubleshooting, and repairs still vary from one manufacturer to another. Definition The Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge works by obviously, indicating 1drivers the engine coolant temperature. For normal operating temperature, the needle will be in the normal range. If the needle enters the red section that means the engine is starting to overheat. Common Symptoms As with other codes, this P1299 activates the Check Engine light and registers the error code. It doesn’t usually come with drivability issues. Possible Causes There are many possible causes for this error code to arise. Some of the most common causes are: Defective thermostat Low engine coolant Defective cylinder head temperature sensor Open or shorted cylinder head temperature sensor Poor electrical connection in the cylinder head temperature sensor circuit How to Check If you notice the needle entering the red section of the temperature gauge, stop the vehicle as soon as possible and switch off the engine to let it cool down. If the needle enters the red section and the Check Engine light is activated on the dashboard, then refer to your How Fail Safe Cooling Works in Coolant from your Maintenance guide book. How to Fix Repairs for this code are pretty easy and straightforward, which could only be made possible by a thorough diagnosis of course. Some of the possible fixes are: Thermostat replacement Refilling of engine coolant Replacement of cylinder head temperature sensor Repair or replacement of open or shorted cylinder head temperature sensor Repair or replacement of poor electrical connection in cylinder head temperature sensor Though in many cases this code does not show drivability problems, it is important to have overheat condition to be fixed the soonest time possible, as it may dramatically increase the chance of engine damage. Make sure you take your vehicle to service facility as soon as possible.
The danger with low mile cars that have been sitting is potential engine gasket oil leaks, sometimes it's better to buy a car with a few more miles on it if maintenance has been done, great deal though.
These cars were mostly owned by elderly people, you can usually run a car fax and see the service history, which generally will tell you if it’s been driven.
Up here in the salt belt I wish I could find a clean car like that for $500, pretty much anything that's rust-free is worth dumping $ into around here. Engine or transmission even. New York sucks
I believe pre-2003 or 2002 the intake manifold(s) are prone to failure on all panther body’s, due to Ford using plastic instead of aluminum. On rock auto u can snatch one up for about $80 or O’reillys has one for $151. Big $ difference
Same problem with my ‘98. Bucking transmission, check engine light going on/off. I had 3 misfires. Changed all plugs/packs. Must have been an issue with the early TPI/Coil Pack V-8’s.
Just subscribed. I'm surprised you don't have a Scan tool to avoid surprises. My Harbor Freight one works well and code reader can be a negotiating tool or you know if seller has cleared codes (not ready) too.
My '02 was also acting sluggish at about 35-40 MPH when at 2/3 throttle and I thought it was a tranny overdrive issue but, then I decided to change coil packs that had over 125K miles on them and ss soon as I changed them my car drove perfectly. Now I found I get the same symptoms when the car overheats. When the temp gauge goes over half way it seems to go into limp mode and runs through the gears and loses quite a bit of power. As soon as temp goes back below half way all power comes back.
@@bigalsbikeandauto Thanks bro. I'll try that! Just bought a 2010 Mercury GM with about 80K miles. In great shape so far but headlights are foggy and the interior is a bit rough. Still, hoping it will last me a while!
These r easy to do just make sure u drain all the coolant from the res and the coolant plug drivers side lower block closest to firewall. Make sure u got all fluid and not drip any.
Intake manifold leak is a common problem for the Ford 4.6 engine for the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis. My Crown Vic P71 had the same issue and I replaced the intake manifold. They’re made out of plastic and they crack over time. Mine went 150,000 miles before it needed replacing but I didn’t realize it soon enough so I ended up having to replace both catalytic converters on the car.
I have a 2002 now. Same color and insides. This is my 2nd exact same one🤦 But I love them! I first get my deck,15s, amp installed, that's a must. I get pretty for the day and ride out, you can't tell me nuthn😂💋
Enjoy your show. Love to learn about repairing cars even if I have no mechanical aptitude. I've had three Grand Marquis. My current is an 07 GS with about 50k miles. Very reliable and comfortable cars, but I hate driving them in slick conditions. Major issues with these cars appear to be the blend door actuators. Labor intensive and expensive. The rear coolant hose you mention is another. My paint seems to be starting to flake. Common issue due to poor quality control. I had a 2000 with an archaic front end using a Pittman arm design. This one seems to handle better. Again, I enjoy your show. Will keep watching! Joe
I have a 1996 marquie I bought for 250 bucks put some money in it now it has 260 thousand miles miles they r a great cars runs like new serviced everything works great . dude change your fuel filter
Flashing check engine light obd2 means continuing driving could damage the catalyst. More or less it means it's misfiring causing raw fuel to head into the catalytic converter which could damage it. Coil packs going bad on these 4.6 are common. Buy a few extra from RockAuto to have spares if you're not going to replace them all.

What’s better to get a grand marquis or the crown Vic ?

SuperBigSlurpee there both literally the same car, however if I had I choice I’d go with the Vic just for the cop car reputation
I bought a 2002 LS for $1000 love it

Just got one last month in Dec. A 2005 with 40k miles. I hope it will be reliable.
I paid 1500 for a 2000 grand Marquis best running vehicle I ever owned. I see alot of grand Marquis on the road.
Paid $1,550 for a 2003, luv it!
Keep it!!!!! I bought min with 165k miles and is still running strong at 223k.... 1 year later. Those 4.6l run 1million Mike's easy if you take care of it
Amazing Deal!!!! It's the compressor and Acummulator you can get new for 145$. Car had ALOT OF LIFE. GOOD FOR YOU!!! CONGRATS BUDDY

Actually it's pre-2001 models that have the issues; the 2001 and newer models have the improved intake manifold with an aluminum crossover tube...
how are you guys finding these cars for so cheap? I cant find one like this for less than 2,500

what was the oil restoration trick that you did on the front head lights?
Just pour a little motor oil on a rag and wipe the headlights

The intake manifolds on the 4.6 liters are notorious to go bad.....got a 2004 Lincoln Town Car that had one replaced when the previous owner had it
$150 for a new one on eBay and you can do it yourself I’ve done 2
What year is your vehicle . June .26 . 2022.
For the price it is still a cracking deal.
still not a bad buy for $500 even if you have to spend anothr grand to make it right i never see anything that clean for under 1500
Flashing check engine light means misfire
intake manifold on that car
Is that what it is mines came on after changing the spark plugs

Why would a sub-100k mile Grand Marquis have a rebuilt transmission? And resell prices fave skyrocketed the last two years.
Ikr i was suprised that the car didnt have the original transmission

How does a used Grand Marquis stack up against a used Park Ave for reliability?
s. fitz in my opinion equally.
Maybe an intake manifold
I got a grand marquis LS I'm loving it need another one getting one soon
great video! showed me what I needed to know on my town car!
This would sell for 4k in florida today with working AC...
What year is she
Very nice buy for $500
Man I miss my red 01...Honestly I'll take me another Gm vs this damn 14 Taurus sel I have now.
I can understand, the new ford seats aren’t wide enough to be comfortable, I’m not fat, but bench seats are awesome
Cool car 😀 I have a 2002 great cars!
I just bought a Grand marquis with 150k miles but I love it.2005
bought an 07 with 100k miles for 2k
You got a steal
It's plugs plug wires and coil packs
That's not a bad deal for 500 bucks dude I know I'm late
This brings back bad memories
Cooling system needs flushed and filled with 50/50 green. Coolant is not cooling cylinder head.
D4x4Bronc nope. Coolant was just flushed prior to the code, that code can be thrown for a number of reasons.
Lol says the body is perfect ..... red impact on the bumper and all the sides of the doors are messed up the trim is falling off
I love the grand marquis
I was thinking about getting one
You have no idea what you have. Those 4.6L is bulletproof
I bought 110k mile for 500!! 1999
I think it is a good deal.
What u don't know is if u detail and fix it.properly that's a $5k car on ebay. s Florida has many low mile Panthers, rest of the USA doesn't.
D4x4Bronc definitely not a $5000 car, maybe if it was a mid to late 2000s panther, but I sold it for $2000 locally. Time is money!
Needs a good tune up
Cool
Flashing check engine light= bad cats
