    Since the speedo isn't working it might be preventing the computer to see speed for the input to shift. It could also be a solenoid or trans computer problem.

    I had a powder blue base model '93 Dynasty with the 3.3L back in '02 with like 130k miles and it was a tank. It was only 9 years old and looked COMPLETELY outdated even in 2002 lol... But I only paid like $600-$700 for it I think, and it was one of the most reliable hoopties I had as a teenager, surprisingly quick too. I remember only having to replace a fuel pump, water pump, and headlight bulb while I had it. Oh and the blower motor for the heat/air stopped working, that's when I sold it to my cousin who dogged it out for another 2 or 3 years and it still ran when he got it impounded and never picked it up lol.

    My Mom had a Dynasty just like that back in 1991,they kept it until 2005 ! It was their 3rd car they had 2 new cars every other year but kept the Dynasty because it ran good and they let family members visiting to drive it also..They bought the dynasty in 91,new Grand Cherokee in 93 kept the Dynasty when they bought a new Mercedes 190 in 1996..The Dynasty was driven by my sister from 1997-2000 then returned to my parents..and they drove it still,they liked it.
    Dynasty had the 3.3 V6 never an issue car had 250,000 miles when they sold it for $2100 in 2005 ,car looked new in/out everything worked..Only the idler pulleys needed replacement and water pump and of course my shop did the repairs !
    Might not be a bad trans ! Check it out like you did,lots of parts and cheap for those cars !

  • @gosportjamie

    I suspect that Century has a bent lower wishbone in the suspension, it looks like wheel is slightly back in the wheel arch and that could certainly be causing the wheel alignment problems but it should be a pretty straightforward fix. I suspect you're right with the Dynasty having issues with the sensor units on the transmission, though it would be nice if it was just down to low transmission fluid...

    That DY-NASTY brings back memories of riding in my grandmothers 89 DY-NASTY she used to have. Rode in it many a time. I never really cared for Dodges or their cars like that but, I would of loved to had my grandmothers it would of been more of a sentimental thing. Someone one day at church pulled out of the space beside her and hit it. It did not do that much damage obviously and, was still drivable but, where it was so old it was declared totaled.

    Keep the videos coming. The Century was a steal. I admit to laughing about the Dodge Dynasty. You should hold out for an Chrysler Imperial or New Yorker Fifth Avenue from that era. You have a knack for getting the GM cars. I would have passed on the Seville because of the Northstar system alone. I wonder what year they fixed those engines and got them right... You have some cars with some interesting noises and issues on them. I hope you get them working. Yes, those speed sensors can be an issue.

  • @NickMyers1

    The Century is a great car - that body style always had good build quality/fit & finish, rode well, handled well. It was a good sized car for old farts who felt the LeSabre/Park Avenue was too big of a car. My Granddad has an 06 LaCrosse he bought new - base model with a console shifter. Car doesn't have the same character as Century or the LeSabres.
    Even with some bolt on replacement suspension/steering pieces for the Century to fix whatever is tweaked - that car is fantastic buy. You could drive it another decade and still be ahead $ wise.
    A Dynasty with a moonroof - is it a factory or aftermarket one? I cannot recall seeing one. Hopefully replacing the sensors will fix the speedometer and gain you some additional forward gears lol

    Buick llooks like it needs a control arm , i think its hit a high kerb, poss strut too, the Dynasty wow for such a low mileage car the gearbox shouldnt really fail, but listening to the video i would say its not a major issue theres no slipping , so i reckon once you replace all the sensors and give it a good drive itll be a very nice car

  • @chrisgentile3530

    Change out the input and output speed sensors. This has the a604/41te trans which is in limp in mode right now because the trans computer can’t tell how fast it is going. Once you replace the sensors the trans will start shifting properly.

    • @bigalsbikeandauto
      @bigalsbikeandauto  6 лет назад

      Chris Gentile already have the input/outputs haven’t installed yet. Although I think the third speed sensor is the one for the speedometer?

    • @chrisgentile3530
      @chrisgentile3530 6 лет назад

      Big Al's Bike & Auto once you replace the input and out put the Speedo should start working again. I may be mistaken but the really early dynasty had a cable driven Speedo but it is really rare and usually with the 2.5/a413 combo (3 speed auto) which maybe where you are getting that third sensor from. I had an 91 Plymouth acclaim with the same transmission and once the output sensor goes the Speedo goes nuts. The input usually controls the shifting as it measures rpm from the engine. What you experienced was a design feature called limp in mode.
      Also look for bad ground straps and make sure you use only atf4. They can be very reliable if you change the fluid every 30k

    • @bigalsbikeandauto
      @bigalsbikeandauto  6 лет назад

      Chris Gentile this is what I’ve seen in the forums about there being 3 sensors that need to be replaced:
      “You have a total of 3 Sensors that help with shifting of your transmission. 2 of them are called speed sensors or "Turbine" sensors. They are input and output sensors. The other is also a speed sensor. It has gear in which you will have to take off to put on the new part. It controls the speedometer and the shifting of the transmission like the other 2 do. This one is located on the back side of the transmission. It is easy to get to if the vehicle is on car ramps. All together the parts will run under 100.00 bucks and you do not have to take it to a place and pay for a diagnoses.”
      Thoughts?

    • @chrisgentile3530
      @chrisgentile3530 6 лет назад

      Big Al's Bike & Auto the third sensor they are telling you about is to keep the odometer accurate on older cable driven systems. It’s actually a gear that is tuned to different tire sizes. So if you change from 14 inch tires to 17 inch tires it keeps your Speedo or odometer accurate.
      The a604/41te uses a transmission controller to drive the Speedo. That’s where the output turbine sensor or speed sensor comes into play. It sends the pulses to the computer which drives the Speedo.
      The input sensor works in conjunction with the engine controller to set the shift points. When that goes the car sits in second gear all day long. Even if you set the shifter into L it will never go into first. It’s just a fail safe to get you to the dealer.
      Yes they are really really easy to change especially with the 41te. Get it on ramps.. unplug sensor... unscrew sensor.. put new one in.. repeat for second... take for drive.. I have done them in about 35 to an hour. Repack the connectors with electric grease since you are up north

    Al!😳 I can’t believe you don’t have a K-Car in your fleet! 😳 I know you’re a GM guy (same here) but Chrysler is a close-second imo. Good buy on the Dynasty; hopefully it’s just a sensor like you’re thinking, keep us posted.
    My one & only K-car I had was the top-of-the-line 1985 Chrysler New Yorker back in the mid-90s. Bought it from an elderly family friend with 47k miles on it. Turd-brown color with matching carriage top, & velour interior. Certainly not a lot of HP but you were surrounded by luxury! Hell the thing even “talked to you” in a robot voice telling you things like “Your door is ajar.”🤣😂. Car served me very well up until I accidentally rear-ended a ‘78 Buick at about 20mph. All the plastics & the front end were no match for that solid steel rear bumper of that Buick!! Just about totaled the New Yorker while the Buick had about a 1” ding on the bumper! 🤣😂 👍👍

    I always thought the Dodge Dynasty and Chrysler New Yorker was poor competition for the Olds 88 and 98 or the Buicks models. Four cylinders with bad turbos/poor v6s vs GMs largely dependable v6 and stretched K platform vs. the larger GM platforms made the Chryslers feel cheap. I wish you the best with it, but I think your going to find it to be much less of a car than the GMs you have of the same generation. The best part of Chrysler back then was the Lee Iacocca tv commercials! I recall my aunt trading in an ‘89 New Yorker with 25,000 miles for a new ‘92 Grand Am. The Chrysler had a mile long list of problems, one of them was a transmission shift problem. It was her last Chrysler.

    I thought I was gonna' be the only commentor liking the Dynasty, but reading below, lots of ppl like it, too. The first rental car I ever drove was a Dynasty. Then, my job right outta' high school was at a rental car company that was real heavy into Chrysler products. Lots of Dynastys and NYers. My next job (for the next dozen years) was at a Dodge dealership in Sarasota. We sold tons of Dynastys to the old folks. My first thought when I saw yours was 1) love the color, 2) I hope it doesn't have the Mitsu built 3.0 V6 that blows blue smoke all over the place (valve guides. I see yours has the better 3.3), and 3) hope there isn't a problem with the Ultradrive transmission that loves to go into limp dick mode. I've seen those brand new off the truck stuck in limp dick. And don't replace the door on the Century. It'll never match and it'll look worse that having a dent guy professionally pop it out.

It was their last car :( so i have many memories of driving it. I did keep it for about 10 years after they gave it to me and i really had nothing go wrong with it with the exception of the air suspension and i don't think the model you have has that. they were built pretty strong, but the styling was love it or hate it and i think that's one reason you didn't see many of them even back in the day.

      Alright well I was gonna ask if you'd take me to the auction with you (not the public one) and I'll pick the car and pay for it and give you a few hundred bux for using your licence to get me in and bid. Then you make out and I make out. As it is I gotta find cars on craigslist then pay sales tax to get a title and wait a month for it to show up and sit on the car. I could flip a car once a week with your help

    There’s a certain types of. People that always go to these auctions and are sooooooooo obnoxious loud and just act like total assholes . Not to mention the the people that think they run the place . That right front tire looked like it was bent maybe was hit in the tire ... no speedometer in the dodge might mean the speed sensor is bad and causing the no shift issue
