I'm in the insurance business, so I'm very familiar with policy. Auto insurance does not cover mechanical breakdown such as blown engine, head gasket, etc. Either the owner somehow had a collision or the car was flooded, or they pulled a fast one on Allstate and made up some kind of story. There is definitely more than meets the eye on this one! I'm curious to see what you find!
@@bigalsbikeandauto it would have to be the result of a covered loss. A covered loss would be collision or comprehensive, such as flood, theft, fire, etcetera. I would check the date of loss on that sticker to see if it coincides with any weather events. In rare cases it might be the result of a botched oil change at a Quick Lube type of place. The policy would cover third-party negligence if they forgot to fill the oil after they drained it. You never know!
Obviously they pulled a fast one. Probably paid $9800 for the car cuz "its an eldo, its b*e*a*u*t*i*f*u*l". Literally every ad since 1998 says that. I only drive a Deville from 1995 with the ht 4900. I havent found any recently. These eldos are cancer.
Sounds as if you're compressing coolant... perhaps, pull the plugs and spin dry... add Marvel oil, cover car and wait for that lift , a cradle drop and a 3 part rebuild video. That car is beautiful.
Beautiful Eldorado. It’s cool to see someone that still has a love and respect for the Northstar Engines. Al, you may be the only Car RUclipsr that deals with them. Awesome video, can’t wait for Part 2.
My 2002 Eldorado ETC has been sitting in my garage since 2019. Bought from a Copart in Oregon for $225. I plan to have the Northstar Performance work done in a few months.
It's hydrolocking because the head gaskets blew, someone got it H O T and now the heads are warped so water is just going in, and hydrolocking. Thats why the starter is so unhappy and why it just jambs, cranks a little, jambs. This engine is badly damaged, honestly, no bullshit, it needs an engine. If you want to see if it can kinda run, drain it. No water, don't give it anything to lock up on. But this engine is not going to be worth repairing, sadly.
Funny….the stuff he likes is the stuff I can’t stand. The guady gold trim, the grill, the Vogue tires….guess they are a Florida thing. Top all of that up with a Northstar engine and that’s a car I would RUN from! Salvage Title tops it all off!
As I’m pretty sure you already know, you’re literally building compression in the engine with each crank and that’s why it will sometimes very briefly start. I remember exactly this, from my first Deville DTS, the 2001 (not the white 2002). To move that Bronzemist 01, it would take many many attempts to get it to start due to having to literally build some semblance of compression in order to run long enough to move it. This Eldorado is doing the exact same thing my 2001 did. And with that being said, mine was started and driven many many times (not by me) with bad gaskets and with yours doing the same thing, I wouldn’t be surprised if that block is cracked or well on its way to being cracked. You’re right about the usual symptoms, but the cars that will still start are exhibiting early symptoms. This Eldorado is a car that has been known to have this issue for quite some time based on how it refuses to stay running. Proceed with caution and prepare for engine replacement instead of repair!
Dude that is an absolutely beautiful Eldo and I love the grill and I remember many back in the day with that grille. I also love the color man and if you know what you're doing the Northstar V8 is a great engine and you will not have any issues as long as you maintain the coolant can use Dexcool. And another solution for N*s before 2004 was the head stud kit from N* performance. I used to have a 00 crystal red pearl ETC and i had the same grille. No landau top on mine
As someone in the insurance industry, a car with pretty much no market value in a large insurance companies eye, such as a 90s Cadillac, they will pretty much total it for anything above scrap money. They consider the car’s value quite a lot under wholesale value, what we call liquidation value, pretty much the price at which a car can be gotten rid of immediately.
Use a coolant pressure tester on the cooling system let it sit for a few hours pull the plugs out see if it shoots coolant out of a plug hole while cranking
that is a nice Cadillac! Someone clearly garaged that car for most of it's life until whatever happened to it to be sent to a salvage auction but I doubt it was sent for mechanical damage..primary damage may have been flood and Copart put mechanical because they could not get it started? I don't see any signs of a flood or even any body damage from what little I did see in the video so this car is a mystery! I can still remember when these cars was new on the lot in the 90's but they did not impress me like the Fleetwood...hopefully you will get this one sorted out eventually..
By experience sometimes a very dead battery could be internally shorted and actually cause terrible electrical issues even if you can boost it with a jumper park. Great video as always love that Eldo
I know used cars are hard to come by and these old Caddys were very cheap for a while but lately, I've seen older ones going for thousands. I would never pay those prices for anything with a Northstar in it just a ticking time bomb even though they may look great.
Its in great shape still ! From what i have seen Cadillacs can turn into money pits really quick with repairs! Im not into gold accents an tan interiors much though on cars ! lol
They can indeed be money pits if you pay a professional mechanic to repair them but if you can work on them yourself you can pick up a bargain because of their reputation. Everyone has different tastes one person may find it unattractive then the next person might find it gorgeous.
It is a nice looking car. i will admit, i am not the biggest fan of this generation of Eldo. I think somebody connected with the design making process at GM/ Cadillac must have rented a 10th generation (89-97) Ford T-Bird or 7th generation (89-97) Mercury Cougar as this generation Eldo has a resemblance to them. I am impressed about the driver' side plastic seat trim with the switches being intact. Usually that plastic is so brittle that ether age or folks constantly sliding their butts over it cracks it. It took 2 years to find a nice set for my 1995 Deville and those were not even the same color (blue colored) as the interior (tan colored) but I did not care. Until I got rid of my Deville if a passenger slide into the seat, I barked at them about it. Good luck with reviving that Eldo. Also it has been ages since I have seen any Chevy Cavalier let alone a convertible one.
Al that car doesn’t have individual coils right? What is the cables are on the wrong firing order? That’s the sound most similar to what it did. If it’s locked up it won’t even do that
The way it backfires through the intake leads me to believe it has a timing issue, perhaps it jumped timing in addition to a blown head gasket? it cranked evenly given the low voltages
That’s what I was thinking as well. The backfires could have been from me flooding it with gas by continuously cranking with low voltage, but then it backfired later after having sat for hours/cleared flood.
Copart puts “Mechanical” on anything they can’t start, and on cars that knock/smoke/misfire terribly etc that do….. so if it was listed as a no start you can usually ignore the mechanical tag…. Usually….’ish
I know that and I usually do ignore it, but remember this car has no body or water damage. It’s being sold by an insurance company with a salvage title. That only leaves mechanically totaled as a possibility.
@@bigalsbikeandauto I would agree, BUT…. How is that an insurance issue?? Mechanical damage is not covered unless caused by an accident. IE oil change shop not adding oil, debris in the road taking out a radiator or oil pan… that kinda thing… if Northstar head gaskets could be covered by insurance they would have gone BK lol 😂

I’m excited my grandma had a all white 95 Eldorado white white interior dark tinted windows my dad loved the car so much that he went to an auction in lowa from Chicago and found a green 96 Eldorado with the gold package they had them both at the same time I was about 10 maybe I loved them
Instead of adding on to my last comment I'm just going to start this one but I do know 100% that your head gaskets are blown as soon as you showed the green coolant and the water these things have to run on red Dexcool or orange Dexcool compatible as with any GM car and especially the Northstar V8 Cadillacs because without it with the green Universal they shoot up to 300 degrees and blow the head gaskets you cannot use green Universal you got to use red Dex Cool with any GM car after 1990 starting 1991. I would definitely put a motor in her
I remember them well when I worked for a Chevy store. The owner sold his Pontiac store and I had to take all the left overs and a few ere Fieros.@@bigalsbikeandauto
In all honesty some of the worse engines to come out of GM has been Cadillac engines. GM is best with simple push rod engines which are usually bulletproof. Add any technology and junk. And that is the worse sounding starter I’ve heard, Kia starters sound more refined.
God i hate the cheesy chrome shit and grill...just looks gaudy and cheap. Even on a caddy. The vogues are sweet but I'd take all that crap off. Also dude, water in the cooling system is NOT bad as long as it's in warm weather, which Florida is...so saying that is kinda wrong. Only time water is bad is in the winter...im not paying for jug after jug of coolant. Water is free most places.
