  • Now that Logic Pro for iPad has been out for about a week, I'm getting more and more curious about what practical uses I would have for it in my studio. In this video I'm putting the new app to the test tracking and mixing horns for the first time. What do you think about the workflow? Let me know what you think in the comments.

I think this is the way logic is supposed to be
I hope all the other DAWS follow 😄

Great video, Kris! I'm always blown away by your playing and arranging, and now I'm amazed at your process. I was wondering if it was possible to use Logic on my iPad when I'm working on a recording project at a hall (with an M2 Mac Studio on the way) and this just answered that it is possible and very doable. Thanks for the video!

Nice video, Kris! Recording on the iPad is very different. I found myself needing to do it in 2020 because I had an old computer that finally died. In the video, you mentioned missing shortcuts that you'd normally use on the desktop version of Logic Pro. I'm wondering what the process would be like on iPad if you used a bluetooth keyboard & mouse. Talk with you soon and thanks again!

That’s a GREAT question. I have a nice keyboard to go along with my iPad, would be awesome to utilize it in that way. Next video? 🤔

  • @TheClevelandUppercut

Just recording on the IPad gives everyone an opportunity to have a quiet place to record. No fan noise and all the great small audio interfaces paired with a nice microphone. What else can you ask for. Yeah subscriptions are horrible but we all have GarageBand and it can easily be placed into Logic when your back behind the IMac.

I will say hook up a keyboard to it and those keyboard shortcuts are still there, the important ones anyway

    • @KrisJohnsonMusic

Thanks for the suggestion! Definitely my next step in this journey. The idea of being fully functional with just the touch screen is interesting in theory, but I’m pretty hard wired to shortcuts.

@@KrisJohnsonMusic yeah, it is a all in one package, the touch screen but take it from me. Manual keyboard on ipad is a game changer, mouse support works equally as well. Whenever you’ve exhausted your patience with the touch screen

Came here to say the same thing. Definitely worth connecting a Smart keyboard and trackpad and seeing if that helps your workflow. I found it a lot faster when using them. They are also not a lot of extra gear to carry if you are travelling.

Here’s what apple says on their website. Not sure what chip the iPad 9 has:
“Logic Pro for iPad is available on the App Store. Requires iPadOS 16.4 or later and an iPad with Apple A12 Bionic chip or later. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID. To subscribe to Logic Pro for iPad you must have an internet connection.”

As someone who switched to doing everything on an iPad a while ago, you’ll get use to using your fingers on the screen very quickly and I have fat fingers. Also nice playing, it’s so nice to watch one of these from a fellow brass player (never mind the user name). Best video for how to record on logic fit iPad out there. First time coming across your channel, looking forward to seeing more
