    That 1st App Sauron is awesome. I’ve been chasing that book for years and never found one at the price point I felt comfortable with. An idea for a video may be to show the most valuable comics found in dollar bins since you almost always go through dollar bins. Great content!!

      Yeah, that X-Men 60 was a nice bonus, even with the marker.
      That’s a good idea you suggest. I’ll have to give it some thought. I’ve definitely found some fun surprises in the dollar bins. Thanks!

    Congrats on the collection purchase! Thats an awesome and fun bunch of books!
    Knowing your love for that "Marvel Comics Group" banner it was probably worth the purchase just to get those lol
    Couldn't agree more with your philosophy on collecting. Keys are great but they sure dont tell the whole story. That's one reason I have trouble spending big money on books. As a nostalgic collector a non-key holds nearly as much value as a key book does!
    Sounds like you got a great deal on the collection and that last book is a great little bonus.

    • @northgardencomics
      @northgardencomics  Год назад

      I totally agree!! Keys are called that for an appearance, a cover, or other significant occurrence but it doesn’t mean you’ll love the story or art. My favorite books are either because of stories or art I love or they are books that are sentimental for some reason (usually something nostalgic from when I started collecting). Those are my personal “keys”.

    Those issue numbers on the 100 page giants are title issue numbers. No such thing as a 100 page giant stand alone series.

  • @dngillikin
    @dngillikin Год назад +1

    No, that 15¢ issue of Incredible Hulk never had a Marvel Value Stamp to cut out. It's a few years too early for the value stamp program. He cut something else out of that book.

    • @northgardencomics
      @northgardencomics  Год назад

      oh! good to know, thanks. now I'm kinda curious what exactly he was cutting out there!

      @dngillikin Год назад +1

      Me, too. I don't have that iisue. I didn't start buying comics until the summer of '74. I did buy quite a few of the ones you acquired, but not all. :-)

      @@northgardencomics Your wish is my command! I just looked at my copy of Hulk #121 to see which coupon was missing. It is a coupon for Precise Publications. Apparently, if you sent in this coupon with $1.98, they would send you a copy of SUPER KARATE BOOK and a life-like Karate Dummy (to beat up, I assume). And, although you're not an "investor" or a "speculator" (you're a true collector, like I am!), I will mention something about Marvel Values Stamps. Basically, it's good to have an understanding of when they were published because those issues are more likely to have a cut-out in the comic (and any cut-out drops any comic all the way down to a grade of 1.0 according to Overstreet's guide). Thus, as you're browsing through Bronze Age issues, it's handy to have an easy indicator that a Marvel Value Stamp is in that issue, and thus it may have been cut out by a previous owner. Anyway, here's the easy trick so that you (and your listeners) always remember when to look inside the bag for this serious bit of damage (i.e., a missing Marvel Value Stamp). This program began in comics published in March 1974 (when they were 20 cents). Series A, reprinted images of characters from previously published comics, ran until the end of 1975. Then Series B began in December 1975 and included stamps that collectively were parts of ten "mini-posters" (each made up of 10 stamps). This series ended in comics published in August 1976 (cover priced at 25 cents; the next month saw a price increase to 30 cents each). So, basically, if you're holding a Bronze Age comic with a cover price of 20 or 25 cents, be on guard for missing Marvel Value Stamps! (And yes, there was another series in 2006, and another series in Marvel Spotlight Vol. 3, and another series in Spidey Super Stories, but this reply is already way too long to detail those stamps!) Thanks for reading (if you're still with me, Chris)!

    I don't understand. You own a store and have a ton of 50 cent books but You never bought a collection?

    • @northgardencomics
      @northgardencomics  Год назад

      I can explain. It’s true I’ve never bought a collection before. Everything I’ve ever purchased has been from a store or at a sale or comic show. I also try to buy comics cheap. I love boxes of 50 cent and dollar books. But I don’t own a store. Nicole has some shelves in a vintage shop where she sells vintage items and I have put some boxes of comics there to sell.
