This is 10x better that people claiming to be artists but do not know what is actually important to artists. Such a great video. Really need the difference between layers.
Exactly what I was thinking! Much better than all the videos by tech bros who just collect electronics. This was so helpful in breaking everything down
Of course my 6th gen IPad is put in F tier 😂 It served me well for the past 5 years and it still works just fine. I got it because the price was perfect as an intro to digital drawing but now I’m looking for something with more Ram to support my excessive layers. Your ranking insights have been helpful :)
Great video! I recently upgraded from my 3rd gen (2018) 256GB iPad Pro 12.9. I went with the 5th generation iPad Pro 12.9” with 1TB because I use a lot of layers in my work, wanted to work in a larger canvas, really don’t care about hover and I got it on sale around Black Friday for $550 less than the 6th generation. I am super happy with it so far!
I'm upgrading from a 2018 iPad Pro 11 inch, and I'm really struggling trying to decide between the 2022 11 inch or the 2021 12.9 inch. I have arthritis, im worried about the 12.9 hurting my hand- but also I do art, photo editing and video editing. ugh I just can't decide. thoughts?
this is probably the first video on choosing an ipad for digital drawing that I've seen that mentions the amount of layers you can use (never heard of that before). thank you sm for such an informative video!
I've viewed numerous iPad-related videos, but this one stood out for its exceptional practicality, concise delivery, and professionalism. I sincerely appreciate your outstanding content.
I got the iPad 9th gen with 256 gigs last week and I really like it so far. But I also have never had an iPad of my own in my life and am just excited to have such a useful and convenient piece of technology :) it runs very smooth and the 1st gen Apple Pencil is so so nice to use. Perfect weight and the pressure sensitivity is so impressive.
@@sol5261 as someone who has never had my own iPad, I love it ! Great entryway. I also make artwork on Clip studio which is a heavier software and it’s ran smooth on the iPad for me :) screen size is very large compared to any tablet I’ve used before and so it feels almost luxurious for me lol. I recommend !
Wonderful video! Still a tough call... oh man, if only there was a 128g Air 5. The 64 gig makes me nervous, and the 256g is so close in cost to an iPad Pro w 128g.
Ohmygooooodddddd I literally just bought my new iPad and I was heavily referencing your previous video. I first watched it in 2021 and it helped tremendously, but in 2022 with the new models I was thinking how awesome it would be to have your opinion on these. I ended up buying the Air 5 with 256GB and I'm so glad we agree on its amazing value lol. I decided to spend more on storage than a fancy camera and a 120Hz that I won't even notice. It is an absolute beast and I love it so much.
Hi I'm an artist too and I'm thinking of getting an iPad air 5 but question is iPad air 6 might be a thing at the end of the year so and I'm really indecisive rn since I'm thinking of getting iPad air 5 but what if the iPad air 6 will have the hover feature that feature is really helpful! So what do u recommend I'd love to hear ur opinion! Also how much more expensive would the new air 6 be than air 5 just a question and thanks a have a great day!^^❤
@@giratinalight hi there! No idea if there's going to be an iPad Air 6 by the end of the year. What I know is that the hover option is only available for the iPad Pro with the M2 chip, and I think it will remain thay way (for the pro line). So if you want it, your best option would be an 11 inch iPad Pro M2 128 GB. It's not much more expensive than the iPad Air 5 and it will be a better choice for you than waiting for an iPad 6. Regarding the price, I want to believe that it will be more or less the same as the iPad Air 5 but you know how Apple is lol they charge for everything. I ultimately chose the iPad Air 5 because I needed more storage (I work with video) and didn't want to pay the Pro price tag. If you're a digital artist and only paint and draw or even work with vectors, you can totally get away with 128GB of storage and you will enjoy the hover function and the 120Hz refresh rate. If you need more storage and feel like 256GB is enough and are not bothered by the 60Hz, I would get the iPad Air 5. Even if they come out with an iPad Air 6 I would reckon it will be essentially the same but with a slightly higher price tag and maybe an M2 chip. I have yet to use the M1 to it's full potential, I haven't even gotten close. The M1 is a massive beast of a chip and totally overkill. Even the iPad Air 4 is still a beast. I just really wanted the perks that came with the M1 chip hehhehheh. But yeah, tldr, consider how much storage you actually need because I think you could get away with an 11 inch Ipad Pro 128GB with the M2 chip. It has the hover functionality you want and it's only like 100-150 bucks more, and you get all the perks of the Pro.
Something worth noting is if you are not planning on printing your art, e.g it's for digital use only, DPI doesn't matter. So you will get a huge number of layers at 2048x2048 resolution for example I tested this on an ipad 10th gen and got over 100 layers.
THANK YOU, Brooke! You are by far the BEST in delivering the most COMPREHENSIBLE INFORMATION and INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN and in ART and CHOICE! I am so grateful. xxx

Same. Time will tell though, the potential of Apple Pencil hover is exciting! But it might be that by the time it’s potential is realized… Apple will have a new iPad available.

I currently do not have an iPad right now but i might me getting one. In my opinion the iPad Air 3 is the most affordable and best for me ! Thank you this helped alot!
If the amount of layers you get its about having them at once like 20 layers at once its alot and then you can merge them to your picture then you can make new ones so whats the point in getting an expensive ipad just for that? If you ask me the best for drawing would be an ipad with large screen then with good ram and good cpu even if you have 64gb or less it doesn't matter you can always send your work to your personal site or in instagram or wherever you want so you dont really need big storage like more than 64gb etc correct me if im wrong

The capability of the software to handle or not the different number of layers doesn't have anything to do with the size of the storage of the device, but with the RAM and CPU. So what's the deal?
