I finished watching Fallout earlier in the week and I can easily say it's my favourite show in recent memory and possibly the best video game adaptation to date.

This show is proof of two things. Don't fix what isn't broken when adapting source material, and there is no replacement for practical set design and effects.

That's right. They fixed source material with ghouls, lore, power armor, brotherhood, China with such a perfect adaptation they managed not only to erase the original's lore, but to retcon even bethesda's own fallouts (with the exception of kid in the fridge of course, finally a vindication for the "best quest ever")

I'm having great difficulty finding evidence that would disagree with you. It's really is a great adaptation. I remember many years ago, mentioning to people that it would make a great TV show or movie and received such hatred for that statement. Here we are today!!! I win!

What makes no sense for me in the show is why would Moldaver go to the vault and murder innocent vault dwellers. She is friends (or lover) with Lucy's mom which herself comes from this vault. So Moldaver should know that the people there have nothing to do with Vault-Tec and are just innocent people who have no clue what is going on in the world. Another thing that makes no sense for me is the fight betwen Maximus and the Ghoul in Filly. Why did the Ghoul not shoot in the weak spot of the armor like in the last episode?
Yeah they are both very valid points and I agree with you 100% - The Moldaver plot in general does seems to bring a lot of questions. 🤔
Maximus and ghoul fight…I definitely smell plot armour, otherwise the ghoul would have just finished him there and then like in the finale.
Definitely some inconsistencies with the writing on reflection
The Ghoul didn’t have any armor piercing bullets at that time, seems like. The show makes a point of showing the Ghoul loading special ammo while he’s distracting the BOS with his speech, and the shells are a different color than his previous slugs.
With the level of detail the show has, it seems like that’s not something they would overlook.
Not only does Goggins portray Coop, and the Ghoul. He is also the original Pip Boy. The chads at the B-day party keep asking him to do the famous thumbs up thing.
Oh yeah very good point 👌 It’s easy to forget that, what with the flash backs showing different time periods. Nice spot 👍

Ive watched the full series twice now and im still so surprised at how good it is. After 76 i just expected the worst. It actually feels like the target demographic was fallout players and didnt just sell its soul trying to get more eyes on it. Still plenty of questions for the next series too. Very impressed with it all tbh

@@JacksonM91 yeah that's one of the biggest questions so far. We saw he took his daughter when the bombs dropped and he's divorced from his wife at the time, so for him to not know where his daughter is is a huge unanswerable question.. we have to wait until 2026 to find out
I also love that the karma system is back in place; Lucy good karma, max neutral, ghoul bad. So many things they done right
Lucy is strong without being too strong. The Ghoul is broken without being too broken. etc. An excellent and compelling story set in the Fallout Universe. Because most of the science is not real, try to remember that it is Science Fantasy like Star Trek. Fallout has both aliens and ancient elder gods (aka also aliens), so keep an eye out for if they go there.
You make some good points there and I’m glad you enjoyed it as well! It will be interesting what angle they go with in Season 2 😄
Literally only issue I had was the plot hole of Cooper knowing about the t 60 weakness in ep 8 but didn't exploit it in ep 2 against max that is Literally my only complaint and it's a minor one. The muldaver part of not knowing how she survived 200 years it's easy to just assume like the vault tech management that she also froze herself for some time

Yeah that’s a valid point as well. I thought that was definite plot armour but if what Yannick says is true then that’s a cool spot. I’m going to have to go back and watch it now haha.
Yea... I think he had different ammo. But from my personal experience I can tell that several times if I came to a problem I was perfectly knowledgeable about but did not deal with that kind of a problem for a longer period of time I usually was a bit flat footed and after a while I realized what I could have done to solve it faster. And I think it is plausible he realized he had a solution for that fight a bit later. So he prepared in advance for the next encounter. Like... people tend to forget things and sometimes they remember with afterthoughts...
Oh, I agree. It's rather rare to see a good gem like this to be excellent video game adaption. Of course, it's not perfect as it has a minor issue (I strongly emphasize minor term) such as Sandy Shores being re-located to Los Angeles Boneyard instead of Fallout 1/2's putting it at the desert area near Sierra Nevada Mountain Range and within vicinity of Death Valley. That's it, really.
Rest of them are perfectly spot on in terms of lore fluff and aesthetics plus characters.
Main issues created by people who screamed foul at the show is due to two things: 1.) Nuking of Shady Sands which that has been solved nicely by direct statement by Todd Howard who made it clear that city was nuked after Fallout: New Vegas. 2.) Destruction of NCR, that, is where people did not bother to pay attention at all, as Maximillian never said that NCR was gone, he merely said Shady Sands was gone plus Todd Howard confirming that NCR is still alive, they merely lost one city to madman from Vault Tec.
You know what, i completely overlooked the moving of Sandy Shores so you make some great points here.
Yeah I’m glad Todd Howard has come out with a statement now and put that whole debate to bed. The show is making me want to go back and play the games, but my gamimg backlog is already insane as it is lol!!

Moldaver was a brilliant, charismatic, and resourceful scientist/businesswoman. She has the ability to pull off like Mr House, just smaller scale.
Moldaver as a synth is what I thought while watching the show. Cryosleep is possibly more likely (since we've already seen cryosleep used) but being a synth means we can get the Institute in the second season.
6:10 my impression was that she was with vault 31, and was the early ones to be awaken..

@@JacksonM91 2 option, been capture by vault tech and made prisioner to make her watch the burned world as punishment for been opposition, or then she belong to vault tech since beg and didnt agree with what they doing and made a revolution party, since that didnt work out came along with the intent of helping the new civalizaction as someone who could go against vault tech in the new world
@@andrealmeida738 My feeling is that since her research created cold fusion, when Vaultec bought it, she went into cryo sleep and created a pod of her own so she could see her dream realized in the future.

That is a good one, but it's a crime to compare to this pile of junk. Edgerunners did the opposite: completely different aesthetic with a great story, this one made great aesthetic but a retarded story (I would give it a pass if it was treated as an Austin power parody)
If there is one movie or series i would love to see is the Half-Life universe come to life. Perhaps a 7 Hour war movie and then a series which let's you see from the perspective of the Rebels before Gordon's arrival or during the events of Half-Life 2 episodes. Fallout is just proof that it can work if the right director gets to do it.
Now that is a shout and a great idea! It’s about time the Half-Life IP gets some love again

I was hoping Kingdom Come: Deliverance. All the history nerds and HEMA group will praise the name of Henry.
The Norm storyline is the best arc tbh. You think he’s a useless coward, but he shows how brave and talented he is, and is part of his story arc through all 8 episodes, and links heavily with Coopers. Also, the end is the typical cliff hanger ending at the end of a series.
It’s actually fun how all the characters are archetypes. You can almost see the special stats of them, and their Karma.

I had high hopes for Netflix's "The Witcher" to be a superior adaptation, and season 1 was pretty close, but what has followed has definitely deviated and I'm no longer following it.
Yeah it was a real shame what happened with the Witcher, especially as Henry Cavill loved the franchise and wanted the best for it.
they did really well with HALO adaptation also... but I think Fallout will be the top spot for the foreseeable.

Yeah maybe I was a bit harsh on Prince of Persia. It was either that, MK or Lara Croft and Prince of Persia pulled the short straw. I think the newer adaptations we’ve received in the last 5 years or so have really upped their games (for the most part)

I enjoyed most of the show especially the vibe and enviroments, i think the made a great job on capturing the spirit of the games. However they change too much lore from the games to ignore for hardcore fans of the games. Last episode was the weakest, the plot for how the Nuclear war started and why was just nonsensical. Sentry tower sene in episode two was poorly constructed.
Yeah I think they did a great job with bringing the world to life.
Interesting takes though and I have seen others complain about both points. I sit somewhere in the middle when it comes to fandom for the franchise so for me, I’m okay with some of the lore changes as the franchise isn’t up there on a pedestal for me.
For a game adaptation I genuinely believe they did a good job though

Come again!? In the context of negatives or whatever I probably had some tunnel vision at the time of watching as I binge watched it and loved my time with the show.
I appreciate the writing isn’t the greatest in places and there are some changes made to the lore that some fans have not liked but I won’t deny that I really enjoyed this show and look forward to season 2 😄
I wanted to like this show, but 5 episodes in, I just had to stop watching. I don't have the time or patience to point out places it fails. On the plus side, great sets, while I don't like the character the actor plays in the Brotherhood, but I thought all of the actors (most especially the veterans) did a very good job. This show fosters a huge list of misconceptions.
Ah that’s a shame, especially as you got beyond half way but I’m a big believer in watching what you like and enjoying what you like, irrespective of mass opinion and if you didn’t like it then I respect stopping when you did.
I started Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix today and I got half way through episode 3 and I think I’m going to tap out of that show. I normally try and see them through but I’m having a hard time with it.
Back to Fallout, on reflection it is definitely flawed in a few areas but when I binge watched it I absolutely loved it and I overlooked some of the shortfalls. My biggest problem remains Moldaver’s narrative though. There were a few others in the comments that had quite a few problems with the show when replying to comments
@@JacksonM91 watched e01 of Dead boy - still on the fence... BTW IMHO binge watching is the best approach to getting the most outta a series. Maybe one day I'll finish it - regardless of flaws, though I doubt it will change my IDMB rating ;)
I over all liked the show, but it suffers from 100s of cuts that if they keep adding to them, can kill it for alot of people in season 2.
From the tired reveal that Muldaver was just another misunderstood girl boss, to white dad being the REAL villain, to why Hank didnt recognize the woman who his wife and kids had run off, that he retrieved from to the power armor functioning like an Ironman suit with wrist jets, to the BoS steel being portrayed as a cult of "toxic masculinity" instead of the remnants of the US Military that they were, to Maximus just failing upward (which I can only assume he is an idiot savaant with a 10 in luck) because an Aspirant on probation declares him Knight after he didnt kill Muldaver... do Aspirants have that authority?
These are all nit picks... but they absolutely start adding upto frustration. The choice of the song "It's a Man" when Maximus was flexing in the power armor instead of a more obvious choice like "Mighty Mighty Man," these things just left me feeling like "come on..."
But yes the acting was good, the costumes good, the world setting was good. The plot was anticlimatic. Why did the people in Vault 32 go ape shit and kill themselves?
Why did Vault Tec think nuking the world would help their bottom line? So many stupid choices.
6-7/10 at best. I hope they get better writers for season 2, pretty much everything else was fine. But Hollywood has had a real problem in the creative writing deparement the last 10 years.
Its almost like all their good writers happened to be the preverts thrown out with Weinstien.
To be fair you make some good points when reflecting back on the show. I had some issues with the writing myself and it definitely feels like they were banking on there being a season 2 with some of the unanswered plot points.
I agree about Hollywood and the overall creativity slump. They’ve relied on too many sequels/remakes and adaptations to get them by. There hasn’t been many original shows/movies in recent years with them betting on “sure things” That’s why I gave Zack Snyder some credit for creating a new IP in Rebel Moon, even though I didn’t think it was good.
@@JacksonM91 lol yeah... I didn't even hit it all. Who did the scientist from the enclave know all about Lucy? I mean yeah she has the Vault number on he back and he could have looked up info on it and it's attributes, but how did he know who Lucy was... thay was never answered and since he died it hardly matters now.
Mostly I liked they way Lucy interacted with the wasteland and the Ghoul and his back story. Maximus was ok... a very human character with real problems... ego, pettiness, lack of commitment. These things can be developed, but that is relying on the writers being good at their job. All I can say is we shall see.
Yes. Its brutally beautiful. Also they maintained the canon of the game and no bs woke stuff stuffed to our throat.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has a better story and ambient than Fallout! It would be, if followed the LORE, a much better history!

That's cool, but crappy writing (abundance of plot holes, bad dialogue and jokes, to name a few) and mediocre acting (Maximus, in particular, was awful) make this a decent show. 5/10.
Each to their own brother. I completely get what you’re saying though and I agree about Maximus.
When I watched Fallout and subsequently made the video, I had just finished binge watching it and it was my favourite show I had watched in a long while, hitting all the right notes for me.
I think sometimes this can be a problem with shows where all episodes are released at the same time. It’s very easy to get wrapped up in the moment, in comparison to weekly releases as you don’t have the same kind of time to process what you’re watching and bias can form.

all MC does is run around for 8 hours looking for daddy.. as for the "best video game adaptation" all video games adaptations released so far are all outright terrible

When showrunners write the show its obvious that the material in the game wont fit the 60 mins per episode hence they had to improvise. most of the time those writers does not hold well compared to the writers of the game makers. we're watching like 2 different writing styles people do realise that most of the time, writers of the show were not as good as the ones in game.
i do get why people liking new vegas hates the show and fallout 3 and 4 because fallout 3 and 4 has different writing style compared to the OG 1,2 and NV. obsidian is interplay and interplay is fallout, people who fall in love with OG fallout would most likely like NV than fo3 and 4
people who loved fo3 and 4 would most likely like the show because the writing style is similar.
you know why anime is well loved and generally is more successful when adapted from manga? its because they stick true to the story made by the artist whom the fans loved this is very difficult to pull off game adaptation wise because games are mostly not made to adapt the standard tv show format
