Thank you Elizabeth! That's so kind of you, I appreciate that very much. Hope you're having a good day over there😊💕
A good loaf of bread makes a good meal
I have been watching for months but I do not usually comment. I am from Ontario Canada and as a child we had to use a food pantry. Thank you for helping take the stigma out of needing help with feeding families. We are fourtunate enough currently to just budget but still get enough variety (just nothing fancy and definitely no eating takeaways), but it wasn't always the case.
G'day over there! Yes there's sadly still a stigma attached to using food banks and pantries when there shouldn't be. Many people suffer in silence. I'm glad if my videos in any little way may encourage others to get the help they need. Thanks so much for watching my friend I really appreciate it😊💕
@@makingendsmeet you made me realize I needed to do it. Thank You again
Hello from Oregon, I have spinach on my dehydrator today I pile it on. I store it in a half gallon jar for pasta and other dishes so if you get lot's free store it. I dehydrate everything I can being season changes with use so we can't grow in the snow. Ok maybe if your good with a green house. We now have 8 forest fires going on.
Hey Sandy! Dehydrating spinach is a great idea, it wouldn't take long too. I used to have a dehydrator but I sold it a few years back when we were moving house. It was handy, wish I hadn't got rid of it, especially now, I'll have to keep a look out for a new second-hand one! Hope you're okay over there with all the forest fires. Stay safe my friend😊
nice buys
Thank you!
I think you did great!
Thanks Janice😊 I was very happy with everything I managed to get too, it'll be a big help to my family.
What is nice about your food pantry is that you are able to provide a weekly stable of foods that the children are able to eat a stable diet each week. They eat very healthy for lunches and dinner along with breakfast. To pay for tuition and school supplies, that robs the budget for meals and snacks. Thank goodness for food pantries that charge little to nothing for food in your area.
Hey Aiden! Yes it's definitely a wonderful help. Being able to get what we do each week makes all the difference at the moment. It especially helps me provide more fresh fruit and veggies for the kids. We're very thankful that these food banks and pantries operate in our area.
What a wonderful amount for 10.00 !!!!! I agree I think that bag would make a great stir fry !!! Oh you could cut up a piece of chicken into small pieces add to it !!! God bless !
Thanks Melissa, it's all a big help. Yes good suggestion, chicken stir fry might feature on the menu shortly! God bless you too😊
You got some very useful items. I know your children appreciate the nice things for their lunch boxes. I love avacados. I eat mine with just lemon and salt. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Take care.
Thanks, yes my kids always love to see what I get when they know it's a food bank day - when they come home from school there's usually much excitement!
Avocados are the best, aren't they?! I love when we get some. I like to squash them on toasted sourdough (like that olive sourdough I get sometimes from the food bank) and eat with sea salt and a little bit of chopped sweet red onion... mmm so good! Have a good weekend too😊
A bit jealous of all the breads & baked goods you get. 😉
Our pantries used to give mainly that kind of goods plus cheese, hot dogs, also canned food. They never froze anything and the baked items would sometimes be moldy or gross.
At some point, an overseer of the pantries decided that wasn't healthy. So we get LOADS of produce now and no baked goods. For every bread item you get, we seem to get 5 pounds of potatoes or cabbage. Lol. I'm grateful for the produce, but sometimes I get really sick of all this "healthy" food and would just like some bread...lol. Donuts would be AMAZING!!! 😍😍😍
Hey Sarah! Yes it's nice to have a treat like donuts sometimes I agree and when you're on a limited budget these seem to be the first things to go. Here's hoping you get some yummy bread and baked goods next time you go to your food pantry my friend😊
Hi, lots of great cold items. Smoked Trout is very expensive here, enjoy. Yes you were right by not buying the fruit and vegetables bag. You got lots of free fruits and vegetables. 😊
Thanks Wanda😊 Yes getting smoked trout was a first! I think in the end it worked out pretty good with all the wonderful fruit and veggies I received from the new food pantry.
I thought I would mention the smoked trout makes a beautiful pasta dinner. It will make something that will remind you of chicken piccata except with trout. When you make your pasta at the very end stir in som spinach for color. With the fresh lemon flavor you will feel like a gourmet chef. It’s fresh and lovely. Secondly,, the reason that many people steer clear of the grapefruit is because your medication will be negatively effective if it’s heart medication or it’s high blood pressure medication. If you have a family background of breast cancer ,including men the sweet potatoes are a negative and there have been studies showing it will crank up hormone problems with sweet potatoes. They actually make me very I’ll.
Hey Judy😊 Getting the smoked trout was a real treat. I ended up using it on sandwiches and toasted sourdough but you're right it would go so good in pasta, thanks for the idea... lets hope I get some more another time, will have to remember to try it like that! I've heard about grapefruit interfering with meds... and that's interesting to hear that about sweet potatoes, I wasn't aware of that. That's good to know.
Very good selection of food. And of course you got your junior mints 😊
Thanks Rosemarie😊 Yes lucky we love them haha!
Fantastic haul!!😊
Thanks Natasha, it'll be a big help to my family. Thanks so much for watching😊
good useful items and i have used the asian salad in a stir fry we have similar here in belfast i also would add some of the leaf salad items as well we all love stir frys here and love the the amount of sourdough you got its very expensive here its my treat with heaps of butter toasted have a lovely week ahead
Hi Shona! Yes we're big fans of stir fry in our house too. Definitely think I'll use the asian salad mix for that. Toasted sourdough is so yummy like that isn't it?! It's expensive to buy here too, so was so nice to get. Hope you have a good week too😊
That all looks wonderful. I've never eaten persimmon nor avocado so wouldn't know what to do with them! I love bread though and you get a lovely variety each week. The chicken was a very good price too. I noticed this morning that a whole chicken was on the shelf in the supermarket priced at over £11.00 😱 Unsurprisingly, I didn't buy it! Well done you x 😊
Thanks Angie😊
A good selection of food. For many people rent rises has pushed food off of the table. There are recipes online to make a casserole with the butterflied chicken. Persimmons do need to be ripe and quite soft. Salad greens will keep in the fridge for a bit longer. Good eating.
Thanks, yes it'll all be such a big help to my family. I agree, so many are doing it tough now. There is more people struggling than some may realise. The fact that there is people having to choose between having food to eat or a roof over their heads is so sad to me. A casserole with the chicken sounds like a good idea, I might have to look into that, thanks😊
Looks delicious. Those breads are a good variety.
Thanks Jane😊 Yes was so nice to get the bread, especially the yummy sourdough. They'll be very much appreciated!
Great choices!!
Thanks Rhonda😊
We have a Bank holiday this weekend, bacon sandwiches always go down well, hope you enjoyed yours. Nice to see you had a few different things like the Trout and bagged salad, look after yourself and have a good weekend.
Hey Al! Thanks, yes it was nice to get a few different things this Thursday, a bit of variety in the food is always good. Hope you have lovely weekend too😊💕
I love those 7 seed rolls !! I haven't been able to afford them of late ...Im glad you managed to get some .Have a great weekend 😊
Thanks. They're nice aren't they?! Have a good weekend too😊💕
If any of the Avocados need using squash them up with lemon or lime juice (fake ones work fine to) & they’ll freeze for ages.
Thanks for the tip😊
You got so much food for only 5.00. And all the free bread products is amazing. Have a blessed week 😊
Hey Sally! Yes it worked out to be amazing value and a huge help what we received on these visits. Have a great week too😊
What sorts of sandwiches do you make for your kids' lunches on all those yummy rolls?
I like to freeze yogurts and put them in lunches to keep everything cold; they thaw out by lunch and are quite tasty.
That's a good idea with the yoghurts. Sandwiches are very varied, just depends on what I have on hand... it could be a simple vegemite sandwich or peanut butter/nut spread/tahini with jam combo. Many times it's things like hummus/avocado and tomato with greens/salad or leftovers like curries, dahls from the night before. Sometimes it's even banana with or without peanut butter or fried up things like mushrooms!
The bacon you received would have been over $5 on sale. Have you ever tried Apples & Onions? Cooked apples, onions in bacon fat with a bit of bacon for flavoring.
Hi Roberta! Yes the bacon alone is worth the $5 for sure. I've never tried cooking apple and onions together before, sounds interesting. I can imagine that they would go good together, would be good as a side dish. Thanks for the suggestion.
Lot of good stuffs. Love the idea of stir fry. Could use leftover chicken and always noodles. Have s good weekend. Its Memorial Day here on Monday. Many blessings to you. As my Southern heritage would come back when you can. 😊😊😊
Hi Judy! Lots of useful stuffs for sure! That's a good idea to use some of the chicken to make the stir fry with, that would work well. Have a good weekend and blessings to you too😊
Great haul for $5! I love how you can go weekly and get fresh fruit and veggies. We utilize the food pantry also but we can only go once per month. We get a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables but it’s near the end of its life and I have to cook or freeze it right away. Trust me I’m not being critical, I appreciate all the help we get but it would be nice if we could just pick up fruit and veg every week instead of all at once.
Agree!! But...
We have monthly, bi-monthly, and weekly options here. The monthly/bi-monthly ones are wonderful. Nothing old or off or nasty. The one time I went to a weekly one, it was all clearance/past date stuff, damaged, or otherwise inedible. It was extremely disappointing.
Her pantries seem wonderful and well run.
Thanks😊 Yes this new food pantry that I only discovered recently is wonderful, wish I knew about it sooner! You can go everyday (if you need to) Monday to Friday and get free fruit, vegetables and bread items. Some of the produce is marked or very ripe but you do get the choice to pick out what you want which is good. Most of is donated from nearby supermarkets I believe. They also have other heavily discounted items on shelves that you can buy. Being able to go to it about once a week will really help us out.
I know what you mean, sometimes getting a large amount of produce is a lot to process and deal with. Sometimes just getting a bit of what you need and can manage at a time works out better.
You got some amazing items this week. Wow, smoked trout! One of my favorites. Definitely worth $5! 😊❤
Thanks😊 Yes I think it's the first time I've ever received smoked trout... it alone was worth more than $5!
@@makingendsmeet Sure was! Smoked trout is $34.99 US per pound!! I cannot afford that. You were so blessed. I’m still in awe….
The prices are crazy aren't they!! I just looked and the original price tag (before it was marked down) on the trout was $7.80 AUS for the 100gram packet... which means it was $78.00 AUS per kilogram! Whoa!! What a blessing indeed, I didn't realize it was so expensive!
@@makingendsmeet I’m happy for you. Enjoy!!
Being nearly winter if we get those stir fry pack I use them to make soup, just add some red lentils, barley or mixed dry beans water some stock cubes and soup is made.
That's a really great idea, thanks for sharing Gail😊 I do have some red lentils in the cupboard, that would be tasty!
I've never tried a persimmon but i might give it a go. I think I may be the only vegetarian on earth who hates avacado...lol
Definitely worth trying, the persimmons I ate as a kid (the type where you have to make sure that they're super soft and ripe before eating) were so good. 🥑Avo good day my friend hehe! 😄
Had a funeral on Thursday, he was 51 and an amazing man so talented in glass engraving and supporting cap charity. Cap is Christian’s against poverty and help people with debt etc.he is and will be missed.
Sorry for your loss🙏🏻
Hi Rebecca, I'm so sorry to hear that. Sending my condolences xx
Nice haul and breads looked so yummy😊
Thanks my friend😊
Hi from Melbourne, love watching your foodbank/pantry hauls. Would you be able to show us some of the meals you make or even what a weekly meal plan would look like on paper, based on what you get? Thank you Susanna
Hi Susanna! Glad you enjoy the videos. That's a good suggestion... I hope to share some cooking/recipes in the near future hopefully. Thanks so much for watching😊
Thank you. 🙂
Wow that’s amazing food 🍱
Thanks so much😊 Yes it's an amazing help to us indeed!
Thats good 2 banks in one day
Yes it worked out best to go to both the same day with the logistics, open hours etc.
I love spreading avocado on crusty bread with a bit of salt.
Me too, yum!
Great variety and haul! I’m seeing smashed avo and feta on that sourdough 😋 Hope you have a great week ❤
Thanks Jo. Haha how did you know! Yes avocado and the fetta I got earlier in the week is so yummy on the sourdough. Hope you have a great week too😊💕
Great minds.. 😂😂
And pizza for the sourdough minis. You can do so much with all the food etc.
The sourdough minis would be great as pizzas, good idea😊
Looks good
Thanks Virginia😊
Back
😊
Awesome job! What is rocket?
Hi Missy! Thanks😊 I think you guys might call it arugula over there in the US instead of rocket perhaps?
Looks great but I wish they gave you more meat for free
Yes we don't seem to get much meat at times... sometimes there's sausages or chicken pieces given at the Friday food bank I go to and of course whatever meat is in the frozen ready meals. Anything we get though is a help and we're most grateful for.
this video is helpful. Do they have any requirement for this?
Hi Steven😊 Thanks, glad you found it helpful. The first food bank is open to anyone in my local community needing a helping hand. The second food bank I went to is income tested and you first have to qualify to attend.
@@makingendsmeet I see. Turns out there are requirements. where can I see the requirements and information and schedules about this activity?
The best thing to do would be to get in contact with local food banks directly in your area and find out their requirements as they're all different. Most of the food banks I go to local to where I am in Queensland are open to anyone who could use the help, only one of them is income tested. Not sure if you're in Australia or overseas, but here's some links to help you find one hopefully where you are:
Australia: Click the "Find Food" button on www.foodbank.org.au or try secondbite.org/food-finder/ and www.ozharvest.org/food/receive-food-individuals/
America: www.feedingamerica.org/need-help-find-food and www.foodpantries.org/
Canada: foodbankscanada.ca/find-a-foo...
United Kingdom: www.trusselltrust.org/get-hel... and www.foodaidnetwork.org.uk/our-members also low cost food parcels through www.breadandbutterthing.org/
Hope that helps😊
@@makingendsmeet love it. I will make sure come to visit. Thank you for the information.❤❤❤
If you don't mind my asking what is a concession card if you prefer not to answer that's okay
Hi Debbie, I have a Low Income Health Care Concession Card... which entitles you to cheaper prescription medicines under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) here in Australia and has other benefits such as 'bulk billed' (no out of pocket cost) for some GP visits and gives discounts sometimes on dental, eye care and public transport too.
@@makingendsmeet ,
Thank you for your answer
That's no worries Debbie. Have a good weekend😊
What is a food bank
Food banks are places where charitable non-profit organisations including churches offer people access to food for either free or a low cost. Many times the food has been donated. There is some food banks that are open to anyone in need in the local community, others may have income requirements you need to meet before you can access. I have left some links in the description box of this video where you can search with your zip/post code to find one close to you if you're looking for a food bank in your area. Hope that helps Jackie😊
Do you and your husband have jobs?
Hi Linda, My husband is not working at the moment and is doing further studies to assist his job opportunities in the future. I'm a stay at home mother currently to our young family. Thanks for your question and for watching😊
