I am amazed at how much food waste there is even at a food bank. So many people won't take the time to prep food or sort throw food and pick the good out and feed the rest to the chickens. I worked at a food bank for 2 years and so much got thrown out. I took as much as I could and shared with neighbors. Its not always perfect but its still good. You have to be creative!
I agree 100%! Thank you for sharing your experience!
Your hubby should be so proud of all you do to provide interesting and healthy meals from your food bank hauls. You are very intelligent and creative.
Thank you so much!! He does tell me he is proud of me!! He is a great support system for me!!
I just subscribed to your channel because of the message you are putting out there. I am not currently having trouble with food but there was a time in my life 30+ years ago that I did. I was starving so my baby could eat 3 meals a day. I went to a food pantry once in Florida and was preached to and shamed into never going there again for help. I was also young and didn’t know how to cook a variety of things so I think it’s amazing that you try to help people see the possibilities of food they do get. There also was not utube or internet when I was struggling so I am thankful there are channels like yours to help people out. I have tried to teach my kids what I have learned over the years but if my mom had taught me maybe I wouldn’t have been 5’9 and 90 pounds because I couldn’t buy enough food for myself my husband and baby
Thank you so much! I'm sorry you had to struggle when you were younger. What a tough spot to be in. Thank you for being here and for your support!
Thank you for sharing.
If we each give Carolina $2 we can gift her a good food dehydrator or a freeze drier from us her viewers who like the show
HEY EVERYONE< IF WE EACH SEND $2 WE CAN GIFT CAROLINA A GOOD DEHYDRATOR OR A FREEZE DRIER FROM US HER VIEWERS!!
Years ago I needed to use the food bank. I waited til I was down to little before I went. Almost every time I was told spend your money on your bills , do not wait, we will feed you. Finally, it got through to me and pride fell aside. I was able to start a prep pantry thanks to them. Now, I am able to donate to the foodbank that helped me. Blessings
Love that! Sounds like you have a great food bank who understands the struggles of the average Joe!! So happy for you!
I work for the food bank here in northern California and I think this is good representation. Thank you!
One should feel no shame in going to a food bank. Whether you be on your own, with children, a senior or even trying to feed your beloved pets. The shame is the food being discarded because no one picked it up. Your use of squash and pumpkins to make a yummy and healthy soup is awesome! Remember that any tidbits not used can be given to your chickens and turkey. Any bread you have left over, even stale can make a terrific bread pudding! Thank you for a great video! I just subscribed and liked! I look forward to viewing more! 👍😊❤
Thank you so much!! The chickens enjoyed the pumpkin skins and seeds!! Thank you and welcome to the family!
I watch lots of dumpster diving channels, and the waste in this country is a sin!! No one should be hungry.
I love your videos, they take me bake to my cooking days. I watch you every day. Thanks Carolina
Aw thank you so much Anna!!
I just love your videos. Thank you for normalizing getting help when needed. You are a blessing to so many.
Aw thank you so much!!
Thankyou for encouraging people to get help when needed. I don’t have a problem but years ago I did and have even gotten food stamps when needed. Put your proud aside and get help. I subscribed and am new. Will be watching more of your videos. Your daughter is so sweet and pretty. And helpful. She’s about the same age as one of my granddaughters. God bless.
I'm a new subscriber & I absolutely love your videos on RUclips! I love that you share your time and knowledge with me & other viewers! You're teaching others how to stretch their dollar. Don't let food go to waste & preserving food for the pantry & recipes from food bank items. Thank you!
You are so welcome! Welcome to the family! I'm so happy you are enjoying my channel!
Thank you Mama Bear your a very sweet and caring lady the info on the food bank it really helps us all.
Thank you as well!
I love love that you take the time and explain the purpose of food pantries and to use them. And then you give us the extra bonus of how to use our food and get the most from it. Thank you, really thank you for showing us on how to think outside the box sometimes....I have learned a lot ! 💕
Thank you so much!
You can also give the pumpkins and squash to the chickens
I gave them the scrapes! They were very happy!
If you use a canning lid to scrape the inside of squash and pumpkins, it will clean all the strings and seeds out great.
Pumpkins/ squash is IMO one of the EASIEST things to grow and because of the massive size they get and the huge leaves it’s also one of the most gratifying. Also, you could do a pot pie with your canned vegetables, potatoes, and biscuits.. like instead of pie crust add the biscuits on top.
Love Butternut Squash soup. Going to make some this weak yet . Got to tat the food bank . Thankful for that. Even if we don't get as much as you do it helps with budget .Thanks for being you want showing us different ways to cook the food we have . Love your videos. You kids are so adorable. I like how you k we t them help you in the kitchen .
Good for you teaching your daughter how to cook. A life skill that many have lost.
Thank you so much 😊
Awesome score on the squash/ pumpkins! swooning here, I love butternut! I bake and freeze for easy meals, its just a little wet when thawed, just need to strain, I prefer it plain with no sugar etc added, thats how I do it for the holidays and have converted everyone to having plain with no sweet toppings LOL! people have actually asked me what I put on it because it tastes so good, im like umm nothing LOL! ... I also cube and freeze flat on trays and then bag up and just pull out what I need and throw in the oven to bake with other veggies, its like one of my favorite vegetables
I was raised with eating squash with butter and salt/pepper. My mom has a big garden and she cuts them in half, cleans out seeds and bakes them. My 5 babies always had squash from gma’s garden and loved it. She always plants buttercup and they are so good! In fact, I have 8 buttercup staring at me to bake them and freeze. She delivered a box of them on thanksgiving. One plant in the garden produces so many😄
We use to raise lamb for market. I have a suggestion for you. Bake your lamb with your desired spices. Cut it up in small pieces. Put it in spaghetti sauce and serve over rice. I used plenty of garlic and Rosemary is great to use with lamb. My kids loved this and it will stretch a little lamb into a meal.
Thank you for that tip! I'll give it a go!
I live in California. Dave's 21 grains and seeds Killer bread is my mom's favorite. It is now $8.00 per LOAF at my local Safeway. This was a tremendous score. I have downloaded a knock-off recipe to try and duplicate it. Wish I was in Montana for many reasons. You are doing great!
Bread's highway robbery here too. Even Sweetheart brand bread in N.East, MT was almost $4 recently. Specialty & raisin breads are $5 - 9 and our bread aisle in my tiny town looks like a hurricane came through. Food pantry's low on basic breads as well.
I am blessed to have an outlet where I can purchase Daves Killer Bread thin slice $1.59 thick slice is $3.00. It is a great savings over purchasing it at a grocery store. COUNTRY kitchen is the distributor in my area. You could check to see who distributes in your area and ask if they have an outlet store
@@jillgott6567 I wish we had such a place here. Only the larger cities in MT have that luxury. That's why our food pantries our crucial in smaller towns.
@@jillgott6567 A secondary retail union busted the last bakery goods outlet in NorCal as far as I know. Santa Rosa CA is one of the most expensive cities in the USA and just getting worse. You are indeed blessed! May you and your family prosper in 2023.
Pumpkin seeds are natural de-wormer for chickens. Also you can heat up your squash in the microwave for two to three minutes before peeling and cutting up. It makes it easier. Great video!
I had no idea pumpkin seeds dewormed chickens! Thank you for the info! My girls need worming. It is hard to find poultry wormer these days.
Mama Baird you cook like I do take what you have and make a good nutritional meal to feed your family. You choose the foods that'll give you the best meals also teaching the littles to help at a early age I am in my 80s and I got to the food bank for my food so I say Thank God for the food banks
I am glad you are enjoying your wood utensils 🥰 This was another wonderful video! I'd add some sour cream or plain Greek yogurt to the top of the soup, or like you said maybe stir in some coconut cream or coconut milk .
That was such a sweet and thoughtful thing to do!
Yes!! Thank you again my friend!! I will think of your kindness every time I use them!!
Hi, Valerie.... I'd like to purchase the set. Would you please let me know how to search for it on Amazon so I can find it? Thank you!
Breakfast burritos with the liquid eggs. You pre-cook everything you make them you freeze them and then all you got to do is just pop them in the oven for breakfast
If you put a paper towel in your bread packs before you put them in the freezer it will keep the ice off the bread and keep the edges from getting hard when you thaw it out. And Dave's bread is delicious. Take good care
Works great for freezing ahrooms broccoli brussels celery onions
@@tammyjones8102 thank you I will try that.
I am going to be using paper towels now when freezing these items. Thank you both for sharing the information. I didn’t know about doing this💛🎄
@@jensherman2771 your welcome glad we both could help. Take good care
Great tip!! Thank you!
I like all your nature intros. I really loved this one. Thank you for sharing 🙏☺️
Ty for making it ok to get us help, at the food banks. You are a dear.blessings always
I know the first time l ever went to a food bank it bothered me and l thought l was taking from someone who needed it more than me. It took me time to get over that feeling. But it really helped me out.
Hi, I just found your channel and love it. I live in Australia and we use pumpkin more as a vegetable than for sweet things. When I have a roast my roast veggies always include pumpkin. Potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrot, parsnip, squash, zucchini, the list goes on. Now I’m getting hungry!
Oh that does sound good! I love pumpkin in a savory dish! Welcome!
We call that squash with the knot, a turban squash. My squash- lentil soup also uses coconut milk, grated carrot & grated apple. Sometimes I don’t have all of those ingredients on hand, but it still turns green delicious. I use chicken, turkey or onion broth. Recently I found an ethnic grocery store that usually has beef bones on hand so I will make it soon. I made 10 qt. of turkey broth today. I have never heard of corn cob broth so I will be checking out your recipe. There is a small food back in my small town so while I don’t need the food I think will check it out & see if they need volunteers. Thanks for the inspiration.
Your family is blessed to have you. All the unique meals you come up with and they always look amazing!!!
Thank you so much!
I love seeing how you use your food bank treasure trove.
I love, love, love your Chopped comment!! I do that too when trying to use leftovers.
The stuffing could be used as a topper for a simple chicken/turkey pot pie. It's a great way to use thanksgiving leftovers.
The fish sauce is so versatile. It can be added to so many things for a umami salty kick. I've used it in spaghetti sauce, soups, stews, and of course Asian recipes.
The bagels are also good for mini pizzas. A good tip is to cover the hole with some pepperoni 😉
Oh that is a good tip! Thank you! I love Chopped so much!!
The kodiak pancake and waffle mix is high protein and expensive! Just mix with water to desired consistency. Great haul!
Awesome! Glad to know it just needs water! Thank you!
@@mamabairds Carolina I have my kodiak box here. For flapjacks (Pancakes) 1 C mix to 3/4 C water. For waffles same mixture plus 1 T oil. You can also make chocolate chip cookies with it. 3/4 C butter 1 C brown sugar, 1 egg, 1 t vanilla, 1 1/2 C mix, 1 C oats, 3/4 C chocolate chips. bake 350 9-11 minutes. makes 24 cookies
I love butternut squash. They are hard to cut, but worth it. I put it in a stew instead of carrots. Yummy!
Hey Carolina! You got some really awesome things at your food pantry! Looking forward to seeing how you utilize everything...and that huge box of squash! Haha knowing you though I'm sure you'll create something wonderful for your family to enjoy.
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your taking the time to tell people about the importance of food waste and that being one of the many reasons we shouldn't feel a certain way about going to your local food banks. I tell ya...I've been on both sides of fence...I've lived comfortably and I've struggled tremendously so I completely understand what it's like. Food waste is a huge problem in this country. Seeing all that produce and food not being thrown out and knowing that your family will benefit warms my heart.
Much love from Tennessee,
Dayna 💖
Aw thank you Dayna! You always say the nicest things! I appreciate that! I think some people see it as me taking from less fortunate instead of preventing food waste. I guess it's all in one's perceptive! Thank you for the support and love!
I love your content and your kindness you have a beautiful family thank you for putting so much out there. i cook right along side while I watch your videos.
Awesome! Thank you for taking the time to tell me that! Happy cooking my friend!
@@mamabairds Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to comments ...much appreciated.. cant wait to see what you cook up next ...
It's nice you get to pick what you want. My food pantry is a drive through. It is already boxed up & they just put it in the trunk of your car. Thanks for sharing your haul with us.
Those are kinda nice too, because it's always a surprise what you will get!
Mine was like this too. I’d be sure to hit the foodbank before grocery shopping to balance out what I got. Most of the times I was pleasantly surprised every week. One week I got a gallon jug of chocolate ice cream mix though lol. I couldn’t figure out what to do with it before it expired.
@@melandolive1647 you can make ice cream in the freezer. Put ice cream mix or recipe in a steel bowl or metal coffee can. Freezer for 45 minutes, take out and whip well with a mixer Put back into freezer and keep alternating freezing for 30 minutes and whipping with a mixer until you have ice cream. It does take all day so Pick a day you will be home all day.😊❣️
@@melandolive1647 or you could mix half ice cream mix and half milk(Even if it's made up powder milk), warm up in microwave or stove to make Hot Chocolate. Edit: or don't heat for chocolate milk.
Super excited for you !!! I would say the biscuits were from a damaged pallet. My son worked for us foods. You would be surprised what gets tossed. I had a case of grits that was rejected lol . We ate a lot of grits for awhile🤣! ❤️❤️
Oh I didn't think of that! That could have been what happened!
My uncle donates damaged crates on his routes too. And he once brought home an entire pallet of bacon 🥓 😋
I'm 68 when I was growing up my dad worked at a warehouse in Central Illinois sometimes the boxes were damaged and they would let the guys take home some of the food
You can actually pull quite a bit of meat off those turkey necks. Either incorporate it into the stuffing and serve with gravy or make turkey soup or salad. Or coursed you get yummy turkey broth from them too. The easy way is to pressure cook them.
Great to know! Thank you!
I like to cook lentils with rice and add caramelized onions. We love it. I want to thy the butternut squash and lentil soup a have a bunch of squash grow my garden this year.
Oh that does sound good! Thanks for sharing!
We use fish sauce in any kind of Asian stir fry. We love it in a chicken or egg fried rice with whatever veggies we have left over. Adds a lot of flavor. It can also be added to lime juice & rice vinegar for Vietnamese flavors- makes an amazing dressing or dipping sauce. If you're not used to it a little can go a long way so I'd start slowly ;)
Thank you for that information!! I'm excited to start giving it a try!
Fried rice with anything is my go too. So good and versatile.
If I’m not mistaken, I think the fish sauce ingredients are pretty much the same as Worcestershire sauce? Could probably use it similarly with meats/soups…
We have a food bank here locally that I go to once a week. You drive through and they put stuff in your trunk. you dont get to choose it. after you get your stuff there are a few wooden bins in the parking lot. You can pull over and go through what you were given. If you have things you wont use you can place them in the bins and you can take things out of the bins that you will use. Going through the bins is my favorite part. I am amazed at what I get in them. Peanut butter. Powdered milk, dry rice beans and lentils, canned beans, canned fruits and veggies, canned tuna, canned salmon, canned beef, canned chicken, pasta, spaghetti sauce, I am just amazed at what gets put back.
Oh that would be fun for me too! I would be surprised too. I think people are just really unfamiliar with a lot of ingredients now a days.
Your kitty is pretty I love all animal's❣
No one should ever feel bad about going to a food bank. Mama B is amazing at getting the most use of what she gets for her family. The squash and lentil soup would be so good on a cold winter day. Maybe a swirl of sour cream on top? Thank you so much for your sweet words of kindness and for just being you💛💛
Thanks Jen!!
I only feel embarrassed for going cause the only pantry I can get to is at my church and it's ran by our church members and I get embarrassed
Don’t be embarrassed Lisa. I have a feeling it makes your church members feel happy to help one of their own. There are so many wonderful people left in our world.
I used to feel so embarrassed too, so I started volunteering at a few bank days a month. I was able to offer some help in suggesting ways to cook the items. We even started making a lunch out of the box items that everyone was welcome to enjoy. It really created a nice community for people to have a free meal and good conversation. I never felt judged for being there even from the beginning, and judged in a positive light when I helped out. I am physically unable to help now and it makes me sad. 💛
That's a good point I've asked numerous times to help they always say they enough help. We used to have a clothing pantry and I helped with that but sadly they quit having it
Well the important thing is you tried and you did help! Maybe you can start up a clothing pantry on the food pantry days too?! Or a church community open letter on a bulletin board. One where people can put down what they need and/or are looking for and one where people put down what they have to give away. Those are always well received 💛💛
I so appreciate your advocacy for the food banks - especially the fact that too much food goes to the landfill that could feed hungry people. I do not need to use the food bank and I am grateful for that. But I do contribute monthly to the local food bank in the form of cash so that they may help others. I truly do not have any freezer space at all, and that means that I have been blessed over these past few years in spite of the health crisis.
I am beyond delighted at your food bank largesse because I know that your family will benefit abundantly from it. Blessings to you and yours.
Found you by accident I’ve only watched this video and one other, but really enjoyed them As for the butternut squash in our family we love 😃 butternut squash pie I just follow Pumpkin pie recipe and substitute butternut squash for the pumpkin
Oh I'll be giving that pie a try! Thank you and welcome to the family!
I saw the bananas and was like "girl, not again!" Lollol. Loved the banana video and how you used EVERY part of the banana. Impressive. Also giggled at the part where you had to clarify the chicken were outside, not your children. I appreciate what you do!! (About to start canning pickled veggies for Christmas presents. Wish me luck!)
Haha!! The kids already at that bunch! They each eat two a day that kills it! Haha. You can do it!! I'm so proud of you! People will love that as a gift!
Our food banks in Chicago are exhausted, so I don't like going, I budget and use the envelope method, shop sales, coupons, and just use what I have. My youngest and I have a lot of food issues, so I have to save and buy, it's like heck but well, it's life. I got some formula during the shortage I donated to my food bank , I was happy to help, next on my list is kids Tylenol since, theirs a shortage in IL. With prices so high, I am thankful for the food banks, and I am happy it helps you and your family so much. The Daves bread is so good, I have to eat it after a stomach flare. it's like 9.00 in Costco for 2 bags of bread so I just freeze it
I know I"m just coming across this video and it's 3 months old but you asked if anyone had ever had Dave's Killer Bread before....OMG!!! YES!!! It is FANTASTIC! I hope you enjoyed it!
Oh I really did!! I made a club sandwich! Oh yeah!!
Really awesome haul.God bless🤩
Don't be afraid to go to a food bank 🏦 f you need it and have trouble feeding your family. Just be glad there Is help out there for you and others how need it . I foince a month and we can go a second time with a paper we fill out 1nd get according how many in our family . I appreciate ever but we can get . Love your videos and you. Thanks for all your ideas ..
Yes agreed! Thank you so much!
I absolutely love how you put this. So many times i have struggled and have not gone. I may rethink this
Thank you and you should totally go! What does it hurt to go and see??!!
I am almost embarrassed to say that I thought those bumpy pumpkins and butternut squash were for decorating and jack-a-lanterns. That soup looked sooo good - and easy to make! You are an endless source of ideas - thank you!!
They can be for decorating! But just eat them when you are done! haha
I never really go to food banks. I was able to get chicken breasts, biscuits, watermelon, salad mix, mangos, and that’s it. We don’t have many food banks locally where we live. But this was huge help for me. This is a lifesaver with money being tight lately. I never go because I feel other people really need it more. Thanks for the wonderful intro on this video
You are welcome! Please go!
The only person who should decide if they NEED food is that person themselves. The rest of us should count our blessings. Never be embarrassed if you need help.
Agreed!! Thank you!!
Your truly are blessed ❤️ you live in beautiful state. Thank you for posting and doing there's videos.
You are so welcome!! Thank you for watching and commenting!!
Great video. Love seeing the kids helping in the kitchen. Start them young and they will be as great of a cook as you are. Chuckled when you poured water out for the various fowl In Your coop. That little duck just jumped right in. I see a lot of your future dinner with a side of warm biscuits and homemade jelly/jam. Yum
Happy Easter to you all Have a Great and Safe Day!!!!
Thank you! Hope you had a great day as well!
I love butternut squash soup so good!
I finally started asking for help at the food banks because like what you said in the video I thought there were people there were worse off than me but I run realizing now that it's okay to ask for help. And the food banks in my area are helping a lot. The only thing I wish they would do is put instructions on bags to have like nothing on them I nearly gave us food poisoning from one of the packages I had no instructions or any information about the what was inside. so I strongly advise everybody carefully inspect everything they've got from the food banks. Appreciate you sharing your content with us because it gives others like myself more ideas.
The sight of all those squash makes me sooooo happy! We grew a lot this year and have loved having so many on hand. I recently made some Brown Butter Squash with a few for my family, and it was a HUGE hit.
Well....where's the recipe?!!!
Yes, recipe please🙂
@@mamabairds and if you want to be lazy.... pile everything in a casserole dish and bake at 400 until the squash is super tender. Give it a good toss at the end to make sure everything is coated. The butter and brown sugar are a match made in heaven with the Squash!

So much wisdom was shared at the beginning of this video. There should be no shame associated with getting help that one's family needs.
Thank you! I agree!
Such a beautiful video

Lucky for you to go so often. We can only go once a month and not a lot at times. We do not get to chose for already sacked but helps.
Yes we are very lucky that there is no limit on how much you can go! We have some good programs set up here with getting all the expired food from the local stores. Crazy to see how much would have been tossed if not for donating to the food bank!
I am in Canada and we can not go to the food bank unless you make under a certain income, I am in Victoria BC our rent is more then 50% of of income. We are working poor. I love you channel your message you are so blessed to be able to have the ability to get help, I am so so happy they understand there are working poor. It boggles my mind how much food waste there is, stores have raised the prices to unfortunately and people are not buying products especially meat, but they would rather though it then reduce the price. Milk alone is 4.69 at Costco for a 4 l that is 1.057 gallons, and price changes from store to store as high as 8.00 in the New Year it’s going up by 2.2% parents are watering down their children’s milk that’s heart breaking.
What a great haul, blessings ❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦
Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. It's definitely getting rough out there no matter where you are in the world! So many are struggling. Big hugs to you!
I don't usually add to much to the videos, but you just seem so homey. I enjoy your videos immensely. Your kids are adorable, I also live to see you in the kitchen with the kids. A fond memory for me. I would have never thought of adding squash to lentils. We usually just cook the lentils with onion and add tomato near the end of cooking time. Anyway, I love your videos as I said, you keep up the good work. Thanks Donna

Awesome! Thank you! Welcome to the family!!
I would have taken the eggs n dehydrated them but you do you❤
That is a good idea!
Thank you so much for this message. I do not use food banks unless I am donating BECAUSE I have people who bring me food all the time. These generous donations are mostly what my large food prep consists of. IF I am donated something I personally will NOT be able to use (I have 3 special needs girls with special dietary needs and I am a diabetic) I make up a box for different families that I know THEY can use. I do not drive nor do I own a vehicle so my going to an actual food bank is truly not an option. So much food is thrown away and WASTED by the people who live in my low-income house complex simply because they do not know how to use it. If I find it (they usually put it in a box by the dumpster) I take it into our community building and we add it to the community food bank here. I am new to your channel and I really appreciate your message and what you are doing to teach and help others. YOU my dear are a breath of fresh air!
Thank you so much! Sounds like you are doing a wonderful thing yourself! Thanks for sharing your experience!

Great job!!! All the seeds that you don’t use are good for your chickens. They are a natural dewormer for all animals. That funny looking squash is a Turban squash
Our bread store has Dave's Killer Bread. It's still not cheap, but they have it on sale sometimes. It's really good, especially for ham or turkey sandwiches.
New subscriber. I use fish sauce when I make fried rice. The oil at the top of the peanut butter is how natural peanut butter is. You could use it and the fish oil in fried rice. I also use english muffins as hamburger buns. If you've never tried it highly recommend it. So yummy! The buttermilk biscuits 😋 sausage (or hamburger, chipped beef) gravy, stuffing, bread pudding, overnight breakfast casseroles, strawberry shortcake (like Roy Rogers fast food makes). The list of uses IMO is endless. Your chickens are going to love the squash and pumpkin scraps. Thanks for sharing!🙏🏼🤩✌🏼
Hey there! Welcome! You have some great ideas on how I can use the fish oil and biscuits! I'm glad you found me too! Have you joined my facebook group?
Your channel showed up as a recommendation to me and I’ve only seen this video but I love it. I agree with you so much about using food banks available. People and families are having a hard time lately and there shouldn’t be shame about utilizing the help that’s offered. That’s why it’s there! I love your chickens and wish I was in an area that allowed them. ❤
Thank you so much!!
Hi Carolina! 👋🏻 Great haul! Love how you use “unwanted” foods. Your daughter is beautiful and so is Yoda. 😻❤️😀
Aw thank you so much!
Hey Carolina🤗, just wanted to let you know that I made some sausage and gravy with biscuits (I used gluten free flour)yesterday, some eggs, and I took a few baked russet potatoes, chopped them up and fried them in the pan with a little oil and butter. They were so yummy!! Thanks for the great breakfast ideas.😊
Oh yay!!! That sounds so good! Great job!!
Did you know fresh pumpkin is a great supplement to a kittys food. No salt is best. Most cats, including my boy, love fresh puréed pumpkin.
I didn't know that! Thank you for telling me!
You are awsome! & thoughtful. You have a great imagination for cooking. There are some strange type squashes too.🤗❄☃️💮🌲💙
Thank you so much!
Great haul. Love to see what you get.
I'm glad your bank is so accessible, you are lucky! Hopefully they are nice too. Sometimes they are not very nice here in California.
Yes everyone is really nice here! I'm sorry that's your experience. Some people are just mean...
Pumpkin seeds are good dewormer for your chickens
Ok.. so .. I just found that my old college (basically across the street from me) has a community pantry day TOMORROW! I'm going there tomorrow :D
Yay!! That's great news!!
awesome video, for the topping I toast the seeds its tasty you know crunch...
That's a good idea! Thank you!
To make squash easier to peel microwave for a little bit. My vegan daughter uses lentils for curried dishes with coconut milk.
Thank you for that tip! I was struggling there for a min!
i really appreciate the fact you salvaged what you could out of what you got so many especially your age would just chunk it kudos to u
Thank you!
I tried daal recipes for the lentils, came out really good. Daal is Indian cuisine and I served it with white rice.
I'll add that to my list!
I would've gotten the biscuits too cuz I also have chickens. Im only getting about 3 a day atm but its more than enough for me n my husband. We're able to give to immediate family as well sometimes too.
You Said it that is so true. You can use spelt in place of regular flour. It's a tournament squash.
You can pressure can butternut squash. Cut into cubes add boiling water and pressure can it. U tube instructions
You are so lovely. I make a butternut / nut butter soup. I use peanut butter and it is delicious. especially with a little chilli on the top. Thank you for the inspiration.
oh, I'll have to give adding peanut butter a try!
If you just bake the squash in the oven, you can simply scrape it out of the skin ready to puree.
You r right about the food bank the things will end up in land fill.
I think this is your best video yet. Your intro was terrific. I’m planning to go to my first food pantry this weekend and you have given me a lot of inspiration. I’m working part time but I live in an area where everything is expensive or you have to drive far to find a large store.
I’m sure your chickens will appreciate the squash scraps. Pumpkin seeds are especially good for them.
Thank you so much!! Are you in my facebook group? You can post your haul there and if you have questions about anything, we can help you!
Great finds today especially those English muffins what a treat!
Yes I agree!! They freeze so well too! Yay!!
Oh!! I remembered you saying put the spices in dry for more flavor. Did it tonight w our spaghetti and is was DELICIOUS!! Thanks for the tip :-)
Awesome!! I'm glad it helped!! It's amazing how something so simple changes the flavor so much!
