Can you imagine Al Leiter watching TV at home with his family? 8;00 PM: “OK GUYS STOP! Son....go back, more....STOP! Ok look at that son. Backup. Go, ok...STOP! This is incredible. STOP. OK good. I’ll explain what’s happening. Go ahead STOP!” Al looks at the sofa, son left 3 hours ago for bed.
Here in NJ and and the metro area, Al Leiter has done so much for people and even goes to fund raisers for a cause or charity. He is one of the very few who will talk to you one on one and treat you with respect. He does not think He is above anyone else and is very down to earth. One of the nicest guys you will ever meet.
As a lefty I always found myself more effective than other lefties because I stand on the 3rd base side of the mound so hitting inside isn't as dangerous for me as it would be if I had to throw all the way across my body from the 1st base side. And it made pitching both sides of the plate easier but some people think its not as deceptive to do so, so kids are taught young as lefties to throw from the 1st base side but I only did that against other lefties so I would be throwing from behind them.
Most pitchers are afraid of this: Clayton Kershaw. He paints the outside of the plate and doesn’t really come in. He’s been throwing a slider in a lot more to righties and it’s been effective though. My point is that with a fastball/Cutter Kershaw never likes to come in
Quick master class right here I love it man! For me, I was taught to establish command of the outside strike first, than you can throw it inside whenever you want. And it's all about your alignment to the plate. Just thinking about it... I had some filthy shit back in the day lol
AIM FOR THEIR NUTS. In high school, coach really emphasized pitching inside. One game I was trying to pitch inside and I hit a kid in the head and he went down. They had to call an ambulance. I didn't even throw that hard. Maybe hit him with 82. Just got him in the right spot. It sucked. I knew the kid too, and his mom. After that I had trouble pitching inside until a random player told me when trying to pitch inside, "AIM FOR THEIR NUTS. They will always jump out of the way and that's where you want to be inside". It was some of the best advice I had ever gotten as a pitcher.
All I know is busting a batter inside with a fb then slow and away totally meeses up a batter. By the way, Republicans AND democrats are idiots. Wake up homey.
I thought nothing of it as a hitter. It didn’t scare me one bit. I’d crowd the plate, and dared them to either throw a pitch out of the strike zone or hit me. Righty or lefty, I wanted the pitcher to make a mistake inside. Give them nothing to work with. Get on base, and do what I do best, steal bases.
This has always been my philosophy. Im a right hander who stepped off the first base side of the rubber, like 70 something percent of my pitches I threw were just explained. I think i gave up only a few homers to power hitters, base hits pretty much, a few dubs and trips. I'd have a little trouble pitching to power hitter lefties, I'd jam them in too.
Jackie Wade Miller I doubt it you just hear about it more cause you can't hit anyone w/o the world ending. It used to be guy for guy you hit us we hit you
The answer is actually yes, WAY more batters are being hit. Here are the total number of batters hit by pitches in each season, going back in 5-year intervals. 2018: 1922 HBP 2013: 1536 HBP 2008: 1672 HBP 2003: 1849 HBP 1998: 1587 HBP 1993: 1200 HBP 1988: 918 HBP 1983: 717 HBP 1978: 772 HBP 1973: 755 HBP
Pitchers need to do something about all these homeruns and a different ball. It felt like in 2017 I was just seeing hitters get their arms extended and smash especially the Dodgers. It seems like a league wide thing that pitchers have to go back in.
Couple reasons for that, mostly on the hitters. Too much equipment (elbow pads, shin guards, chain mail, etc.) and, more importantly, aluminum bats in LL, college, etc. Aluminum bats have a sweet spot closer to the knob, so guys can crowd the plate. Get rid of those, and hit batters will go way down.
Yeah now that the same 4 seams been ripped by my wrist 3 times in a row I'll never know the delivery mechanics for when the 4 seam trajectory is over the plate. We should have a vid next on how to bounce dice off the little pyramids at the craps table in Vegas to double up on the boxcar roll. Rocket science boys. How about a video on how the baseball travels off of the bat depending on the pitch type, location, swing approach and pitch velo instead?
high school is too late. you need to do it as soon as you start throwing, and even if you do half the time it's really not worth it because you become so inconsistent.
MLB Network makes quality teaching content that no other major sports network comes close to matching. Great video, guys
all they need is a remote or touch screen
NFL
@@seandafny what’s that
DeRosa is really bad.
That's s fact
great to see how excited Al is. He's like a kid in a candy store.
Al's about to pass out he's so into it.
He LOVES breaking down tape. I think it brings him back to his playing days. He would make a good pitching coach.
That is a man that truly LOVES baseball.
I love Al Leiter. He's so into the game, and he was a great Met.
Student of the game

I would love that.

This video explains very well David Price's dominance on last playoff games
Absolutely amazing how excited Al is about pitching. That is a man that truly LOVES baseball.
I love hearing this guy and Smoltz talk about pitching.

My daughter is a Softball pitcher. Al Leiter just taught me a lesson AGAIN!!! love this guy

I could listen to Al Leiter all day
2:34 "I don't have three balls."
Explain that stance then.
Damn I enjoyed this so much.

The kid was fine. They called the ambulance for precaution. He was actually up moving around before the truck arrived.
ive always thought pitchin inside & jamming batters a great way to make them scared and respect those pitches, never thought of it as a risky move.

Having a catcher that sets up inside is 👌 perfect. My catcher knew how I threw.
🙂
Lmao the passive aggressive confrontation between these two is why I love this game.
"roflo,be quiet "😂😂😂😂😂. He must have said something
Bob Gibson was the master at establishing the inside of the plate...intimidating.
What he is trying to say is, don't give room batter to free his arm. Why cannot he say that
Beautiful 👏🏾
Are more batters getting hit than in the past? I watch the braves. Just about every game someone gets hit.

These guys' knowledge is so impressive, yet I have such a hard time following what they really mean.
That's Jeff Mathis catching Robbie Ray, c'mon Dero!
basically a setup for the next pitch
He is so good, his son is in the majors 90% due to Al.

Idk about your assessment of Happ, he stood 3B side but he lands very closed so it is the same as if he stood 1B side
i don't have 3 balls either.
He just needs to let Al talk
Lucas really should learn what release point means
Producers told them to be lively so they bagan yelling at each other.
Nice
😎😎
this is electric
Mark DeRosa always got something to complain about
DeRo can talk boy. Lol.
I feel bad for the camera guys lol
They probably have to go have a smoke and a shot after any of his segments lol
RACK IT BACK!!! hahah
STAAAAAP
Poor Lucas getting all these directions
He talks alot without saying much.
Why don’t young high school prospects, train themselves to throw right handed and left handed I feel like that could be so lethal if perfected
