  • Welcome back to Budget 1/28 Micro Touring Car project.
    Stage 4 of modification: this is end of chapter 1 of this project where I complete everything essential to run this car at a good and steady pace.
    In this episode I'm filling diffs and shocks with gear diff. grease.

    Great review of everything possible on the 1/27 and 1/28 cars maintenance and upgrades market. Keep it up my friend, this is not only useful for beginners, as well that it is for advanced rc-drivers. Somehow you put the dot on every “i“ each time you uploaded a new tutorial video. Really fine and excellent work, kind regards from the Netherlands.

    Man your videos are so great! I bought it and have cleaned and sanded the differentials and packed them with grease and put grease in the shocks too. It makes a world of difference without all that rolling resistance! Another mod that I did to mine is to raise the height of the front body mount so the body doesn’t get caught on bumps. Keep up the amazing work!

    1:13 I used normal ball bearing grease, the one that gets used on bikes. The car is more controllable and with the stage 1 mod the motor doesn't want to melt itself. Old videos but the quality it's still there and the mods are cheap and effective, stage 1 and 2 should be on the list of every wltoys mini car owner

      With this low price, you can expect low quality parts.
      Seriously, get the Atomic AMZ. It's a much better car and you don't have to pull everything out and check it because you'll have to build it from kit.
      Quality is much better, handling is much better, everything's better. ruclips.net/video/u7Jsw8IW-zY/видео.html
      WLtoys is good as a car for learning and to get into hobby if you are on a really tight budget... at the beginning. The cost can spiral out of control pretty easily.

    Your Video's have been great on so many micro cars I have the K989 and we run them at our local track all the time. The toe is fine on mine for carpet racing, but have recently gone through and rebuilt mine, I added better diffs, a brushless system and some other stuff. my question is I have been playing with some different Tire and Wheel combinations, and curious if there is a way to have adjustable camber so I could tune it for the different tires. I have tried some of the 3d printed kits out there and the problem is some are not very good. I am looking for a more precise way to do it. Thank you for any help you may be able to give me on this.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  Год назад

      You can cut and drill the upper arms with 1.5mm drill bit then use M2 threaded rod to make them adjustable. However this will weaken the parts a lot which is fine on a drift car but for touring, I'm not so sure.

      The original gears lasted about 10 battery packs for me.
      After I modded it with other plastic gear and replace the diff with Mini-Q/Mini-Z diff, it's still holding up to this day. Not that I play it very much but with different plastic than the original it's much more durable.

    What Ball differential should I order for Wltoys 284131 drift truck that is good/best?

    • @BeaversHobby

      Ball diff is not really for drifting. Get front one way and rear locked www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001671065507.html or just front one way www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001670938865.html and glue the rear diff. You'll need long CVD for the one way too bit.ly/3m1i4bd .

      This old version has pretty bad parts quality and fitting. If you get one right now you'll get a better car with good ball caps so you won't have to fix those (which could lead to broken parts). Only the diffs need fixing or replacing. • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  2 месяца назад +1

      I only have spacer in the back and tool the front out. If the front is too soft then you can either file down the original spacer so the shock has less resistance but not too soft, or make your own custom spacer from plastic sheet.

      Beaver's Hobby wow, thank you for responding! I have some other questions though: if I want to have this car as a budget touring car, is it better to use the mini z (the normal black ones you showed) differentials with longer CV drive shafts or the cheap adjustable banggood Wl toys ball differentials? Do I have to get other ball bearings for the differentials?
      What shocks or springs are compatible? And what Offset would work well on a small track similar to yours?
      I planned on getting the mini z rims and foam tires, I hope they have good grip?
      I really hope you can give me some answers on those questions and that I haven’t asked something you already told us, because I want to buy the Wl toys K989 and tuning parts soon, as a winter project.
      Greetings from Germany and have a good day!

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  4 года назад

      @@hobbypyromane2.05 Find ball differential but somewhere else and not banggood. That one is pretty bad. I got it here. ruclips.net/video/5fvx6Uw8mSU/видео.html And I'm not terribly impressed with it.
      I've been told the red one on aliexpress is good.
      Shocks from JJRC Q35 is compatible but there's no difference. Just apply gear diff grease to the shaft like in this vid and adjust the clips on the shocks to change tension. If you want to change the spring then Mini-Z AWD DWS springs work (part number MDW100-01) However you'll have to add more clips to the shocks because the springs are shorter than original. There's a way to get better shocks. You need to change the ball heads to 4mm and use Atomic AMR long shocks. They hold the grease better than WLtoys'.
      Wheel offset also depends on the body you use. What I run normally is 1.5mm offset narrow at the front and 0mm offset wide at the back. Good width, good tracking and turning circle. Foam tyres should be good but again, depends on your track surface.
      The body I use is now Mini-Z Corvette ZR1. It doesn't need shock tower mod but it needs custom front lip. Which reminds me I have to make an video update on this project.

      Aluminium are only available for suspension arms and such which I don't recommend because they gives you more problem than solving it. So the ones I recommend are knuckle and shock tower.
      Front knuckles bit.ly/2WXw5ih
      Rear knuckles bit.ly/2L9D2pp
      Shock towers bit.ly/2XvDdlt
      As for the gear that wears out no, there's no metal upgrade for it.
      Mini-Z gears are more durable than WLtoys. Actually Mini-Q is more durable than WLtoys too.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  3 года назад

      They are equally important but it depends on what you want to do. If you want to drive around normally but want something reliable you can replace both diffs with standard Mini-Z gear differential then upgrade the CVD with "27mm" long CVD.
      If you want to drift then you can lock the standard diffs and keep using them then upgrade the front to one way if you want.
      As for full blown racing I highly recommend you upgrade both diffs to Mini-Z (or Mini-Z AWD compatible from Atomic or GL) ball differentials and upgrade the CVD with "27mm" long CVD.

      Right now, no. Even Mini-Z BMW bodies are nowhere to be found.

What options there are to slow down this car, change gearing, limit transmitter throtle movement mechanically, is there something I could tweak witx transmitter electronics? is throtle made with potentiometer & ADC or something totally different? can I change to less speedy motor?

      Just fix the car like in stage 1 and 2 is enough to run. No need to change the tyres or fill the shocks. If you are talking about the transmission range it's about 50 metres.
