I was a little worried about my kid smashing up this kit but after watching you beat the snot out of it i am a little less concerned. We have a couple different styles of the WL 1/28 3 of the trucks 2 of the old 989s one of the new rally cars with the lights and this one. Lots of different levels of modifications from bone stock to brushless speed run set up. For the money they are a great gateway car into something bigger but I just love how small they are I can throw 3 in my backpack and a handful of extra batteries and when the wife is taking to long in the store my son and I can build a little track with any old thing laying around. yesterday we made a track that went in between the parking block and the curb over a speed bump and around a island in the parking lot. We did 3 laps and then did it in reverse. When my wife came out she wanted to race so I pulled out the 3rd car for her. We had some family fun for about 20 minutes when my wife had forgotten that she had bought some ice cream bars we ended racing home to get them in the freezer. Anyway thanks for the post I enjoyed it

My RC journey began with me looking for a tiny mouse-sized rc car to entertain our cat. I had some ancient ZipZaps from my youth, but the batteries were long fried and could no longer hold charge.
So I ended up buying a 1/76 scale Turbo Racing C64, but the front wheel axles got so clogged with dust and debris, tanking the performance, and couldn't be dissasembled enough for cleaning, so I ended up returning it. I upgraded to a WLtoys K969, which rules.
I also ended getting a Diatone/Sniclo Q25 FPV kit, which also rules, and doesn't seem to have the C64 wheel debris issue, although its shorter and wider wheelbase's handling is much worse, and it doesn't have the drift capability or gyro.
I duct taped the Q25 to the top of my K969, and have been drifting it around with the FPV goggles and it's wild. Feels like I'm playing one of my rally sim video games.
I just ordered one of these 284161's from your MakerFire link so I can actually go up on carpet and do some "offroad" action (the K969 doesn't have enough ground clearance). BangGood sells the 284161's too, but they're currently backordered.
Looking forward to its arrival, it's going to be a blast! Also curious to try the 284161's open differentials in my K969 (at least the front), and see how it changes the handling.

I think the best upgrades to do is ball diffs (I like the metal ones with the plastic ring gear) and metal hubs front and rear. Skip all the other metal parts except for maybe the shock towers. Ive just started my journey into RC cars, drones, helicopters etc. I've been watching videos on this 284161 for about a month now, I've got a birthday coming up in less than 2 months, and I've been dropping hints like crazy to my wife about either this or the Axial 1/24 crawler, well either that or the brushless furitek 1:24 crawler 😁 but that one is pretty close to $300 stock and right now, neither my wife nor myself are working full time, so the money really isn't there for the $300 model, but that's fine by me, this awesome little basher proves you don't have to spend big to enjoy the toy...!!..

i know this chassis well, these are great, ive had two of the rally cars for years, im glad the larger tires and suspension give it higher ground clearance, which was the main drawback as pavement would cause constant breakage,as well as the transmission seeming to be a bit more durable, and a lot faster! im honestly amazed at the durability, mine would constantly break if you took even one small jump or rolled over, and was identical in terms of design, so they must have improved the plastics

My dude, serious question time. For those of us flying drones and airplanes, ESC calibration is an essential 3rd step before a maiden. (necessary for quads, less critical but still important for planes). I wonder, though, if you speedy-bois with your high-speed passes would benefit from including an ESC Calibration in your checklist? You'd know you were sending 100%, when you're *_Sending IT_*
Just a thought, my friend. Radio on, full send, plug in LiPo, what is this crazy sound, full-unsend, listen to banging tones telling you you're done.
Also, my A959 did not like 3S. Not the first time. The second time, however, (with a new ESC, motor, and high-speed pinion and spur) it liked it A LOT (right until the front diff exploded.)

A word of warning. For the 284161, be prepared to have to upgrade/change the steering servo. I bought two of them (from different 2 different vendors) and servos on both seized and became non-functional after using it for only about an hour of very light use. The replacent servo I bought has metal internal gears and seems to have lasted more than an hour.

My two 284161's arrived from Makerfire and whenever I turn the wheels, the throttle power dips? The further I turn the wheels, the worse the power dip. It's like this on both units.
The weird thing is my K969 (very similar except locked differentials) doesn't have this issue. I can floor the throttle and turn the wheels without any drive train power loss occurring.
Could this be a problem with the 284161's open differentials (could they just need broken in?) or is this just normal behavior for an RC car with open diffs?

$1000/mnth for 1000 sq ft is dirt cheap where I live, they normally go for twice that.
If I had my druthers I'd buy a nice big 3 acre lot, put a quonset steel building on it with a fly park and off road track outside with a race track and off road inside for the winter months (which is 8 months up here in Canada).

The problem with this car is it might look like a good sandpit bashers but just like the other wiltoy k 989 series cars the pinnion and spur are open and 1 tiny bit of grit jams it up and wrecks the cogs .. it is ONLY good for use on clean surface.
