Lots of different levels of modifications from bone stock to brushless speed run set up. For the money they are a great gateway car into something bigger but I just love how small they are I can throw 3 in my backpack and a handful of extra batteries and when the wife is taking to long in the store my son and I can build a little track with any old thing laying around. yesterday we made a track that went in between the parking block and the curb over a speed bump and around a island in the parking lot. We did 3 laps and then did it in reverse. When my wife came out she wanted to race so I pulled out the 3rd car for her. We had some family fun for about 20 minutes when my wife had forgotten that she had bought some ice cream bars we ended racing home to get them in the freezer. Anyway thanks for the post I enjoyed it

My RC journey began with me looking for a tiny mouse-sized rc car to entertain our cat. I had some ancient ZipZaps from my youth, but the batteries were long fried and could no longer hold charge. So I ended up buying a 1/76 scale Turbo Racing C64, but the front wheel axles got so clogged with dust and debris, tanking the performance, and couldn't be dissasembled enough for cleaning, so I ended up returning it. I upgraded to a WLtoys K969, which rules. I also ended getting a Diatone/Sniclo Q25 FPV kit, which also rules, and doesn't seem to have the C64 wheel debris issue, although its shorter and wider wheelbase's handling is much worse, and it doesn't have the drift capability or gyro. I duct taped the Q25 to the top of my K969, and have been drifting it around with the FPV goggles and it's wild. Feels like I'm playing one of my rally sim video games. Firstly, you sound a lot like Noel Fielding sometimes, I thought I was listening to him 😂 Secondly, do you know if there is an RC mini/micro basher around this size that comes with oil shocks and brushless motor?
I have the 1 gen rally car model without all of the lights. My buddy just bought one of these so I'm gonna have to get some bigger tires a and trim my body out a bit to keep up!
A word of warning. For the 284161, be prepared to have to upgrade/change the steering servo. I bought two of them (from different 2 different vendors) and servos on both seized and became non-functional after using it for only about an hour of very light use. The replacent servo I bought has metal internal gears and seems to have lasted more than an hour.
I got one, yours seems more powerful, mine seems like it binding up somewhere, wow it get hot. Guess im gonna have to get out my magnification tool and crack er open
My two 284161's arrived from Makerfire and whenever I turn the wheels, the throttle power dips? The further I turn the wheels, the worse the power dip. It's like this on both units. The weird thing is my K969 (very similar except locked differentials) doesn't have this issue. I can floor the throttle and turn the wheels without any drive train power loss occurring. Could this be a problem with the 284161's open differentials (could they just need broken in?) or is this just normal behavior for an RC car with open diffs?
For the money you cant complain with the product as a cheap means of quickly converting something that wasnt originally RC , like a Tonka truck, to radio controlled fun
I converted mine to brushless over the weekend. Stupidly fast, but uncontrollable. Going to find some oil shocks for it. I just posted a video of it on my channel.

not sure yet, not looked… but might be a quick fix
Nice little drive way ripper, could be worth a look
Bought one for my Grandson, very good but can't find any spares/upgrades for it.
Love your videos, you have the best job in the whole world,
Not "made for the skate park", and probably not "Kevin Talbot/Stimpy approved"...but, still looks like loads of fun (at line was your don't try to "send it"). 🤙🏼
Wow ! You broke it . Darn that was a good rc to be 1/24.
I think it’s fixable. Not properly looked yet
It's like a little cat. It always ends up on its wheels somehungmeow, lol.
it's like a little weasel running around the skate park.
Yes lol
Cool little car.
I did something I never do and - ordered 161 without waiting on proper review based purely on You teaser from 284010 review - I should have it in 1 week time ;)
same i saw the short he posted and IMMEDIATLY bought it i normally wait for a reveiw video
You obviously knew I liked it 😅
That nose plant at the end of what surely would have been a 10 pointer…. 😂
Hahaha
@@TomleyRC Took it like a champ, so still winning!
Firstly, you sound a lot like Noel Fielding sometimes, I thought I was listening to him 😂 Secondly, do you know if there is an RC mini/micro basher around this size that comes with oil shocks and brushless motor?
From China 57.99 USD / -25$
Thanks for video
Gosh you and Talbot make videos with such little time apart
Well… I made this a while back 😅
Cool little car 🚗 👍🏻
if they put sway bars on it it would be a little better than just and damping shocks
would be interesting to see if anyone can 3D print up some new parts for this thing
I may pick one up. Been looking for a good, cheap micro that i can modify and make stupidly fast.
It’s so cute!
I have the 1 gen rally car model without all of the lights. My buddy just bought one of these so I'm gonna have to get some bigger tires a and trim my body out a bit to keep up!
Haha
A word of warning. For the 284161, be prepared to have to upgrade/change the steering servo. I bought two of them (from different 2 different vendors) and servos on both seized and became non-functional after using it for only about an hour of very light use. The replacent servo I bought has metal internal gears and seems to have lasted more than an hour.
Which one did you buy and from where?
I have one. and so fragile LOL..
I got one, yours seems more powerful, mine seems like it binding up somewhere, wow it get hot. Guess im gonna have to get out my magnification tool and crack er open
Bloody heck Phil don't upload while I'm at work lol
Right I can watch it now 😁
Haha.. sorry
Cool they should make a crawler
Ooooo this looks cool
Tough little car takes some beating
Certainly did
@@TomleyRC goes to show how you can have fun with cheep cars
My two 284161's arrived from Makerfire and whenever I turn the wheels, the throttle power dips? The further I turn the wheels, the worse the power dip. It's like this on both units.
The weird thing is my K969 (very similar except locked differentials) doesn't have this issue. I can floor the throttle and turn the wheels without any drive train power loss occurring.
Could this be a problem with the 284161's open differentials (could they just need broken in?) or is this just normal behavior for an RC car with open diffs?
Mine does the same thing. I'm surprised so many people ignore this.
@@mq1991maybe it is suppose to be like that to not break out in hard corners?
Mine does that too
Nice. I've been looking at these i may have to get my twin boys 1 each
Noice 👌
Should be here any day, makerfire a little delusional on the shipping times
It's a mini ftx dr8 it's so cute
Haha
Really want this little car, did you have to pay import tax?
Wl tough baby! 🤣
Haha
For the money you cant complain with the product as a cheap means of quickly converting something that wasnt originally RC , like a Tonka truck, to radio controlled fun
I converted mine to brushless over the weekend. Stupidly fast, but uncontrollable. Going to find some oil shocks for it. I just posted a video of it on my channel.
Did you find the oil shocks? Why brushless?
Yessssss great review
Thank you
I can see myself adding a section in the new indoor course for these
I rented the shop space next to my production shop and 20 x 50, first thought was "off road dirt track and crawler course" naw, $1000/mnth gotta make $$ to pay for it lol
I saw all that space though and "I could have some fun in here"
@@muskokamike127 dude I'm doing the same I have my work shop with a 200sqf minicrawler course in it. But the workshop next to me has come up now so I'm taking that on by the time it is finished I'll have over 1000sqf of scale high detail terrain I can't bloody wait 😂😆
@@REACTIVETERRAINRC yeah good luck! that'll be awesome.
I can't afford to rent that much space and not make any $$ off it so my play area will have to wait.
$1000/mnth for 1000 sq ft is dirt cheap where I live, they normally go for twice that.
If I had my druthers I'd buy a nice big 3 acre lot, put a quonset steel building on it with a fly park and off road track outside with a race track and off road inside for the winter months (which is 8 months up here in Canada).
@@muskokamike127 dude I'm very luck the space I have a get really cheap and lucky my business pays for most of it. Plus in the UK I've started up a 1/24 minicrawler club which all the members put in a little towards it. 👍 Have to say there's not many places I would say I want to live but Canada is one good luck fella 👍
@@REACTIVETERRAINRC I wouldn't be too quick about Canada, we're turning into a socialist sh*t hole....teaching grade 1 kids how to blow their buddies.
A guy in the small town north of me tried to make a go of an outdoor course, he went bust in a year, not enough ppl and land and taxes too much $$.
We are taxed to death here. We end up paying over 60% of our income in various taxes. Hell, we even tax on tax here.
Great video!
Blackzon smyter?
The problem with this car is it might look like a good sandpit bashers but just like the other wiltoy k 989 series cars the pinnion and spur are open and 1 tiny bit of grit jams it up and wrecks the cogs .. it is ONLY good for use on clean surface.
