    I really like that infeed table elevating mechanism. I'm currently working on a thickness planing machine that uses a hand-held planer, held in a frame on runners a fixed height above the wood. I've seen several described on you tube but they all have a guide track that has separate lifts at each corner, and are only for small boards. I want to build one six or so feet long and it would be a real pain to set it level. With a raiser like this one it could be done with one crank. I'd probably make the levers out of metal, but the concept is a very good one.

    I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but you can buy those T nuts with barbs on them so you hammer them into place, and then tighten from the other side....they won't budge on you (but you may have discovered these already, Lee Valley, Richelieu and others carry them)

    Excellent engineering on the parallelogram design, much easier to make with simple tools than dovetailed ways. I'd be inclined to use an induction motor, but then again, you've already got the motor off the planer.

    You remind me of when I was a young kid, and I won a blue ribbon at the local fair for a crude and simple toolbox I made.
    They sent me to the State Fair to exhibit and be judged. As I was walking in with my little toolbox there was another young kid rolling in his handcarved grandfather's clock!!

    Great job! Though please, if just for the sake of viewers attempting this, use push pads when jointing on the flat. A kickback could send that board flying back, leaving your hands to fall right into that cutterhead.

    I love all your videos, but there's something special about this build...maybe its the box, maybe the parallelogram, or the cover over the belt, the sheet metal...I don't care I JUST REALLY APPRECIATE THIS...once it's all together you really got a real machine & even the green looks cool to me, but then again I've always had a different taste altogether...That green works...I don't care who says otherwise. Considering FORM vs/ FUNCTION obviously function is far more important, but design is nice too! {Environmental engineering}

  • @heavyweather
    @heavyweather 11 лет назад

    Normally the in feed table is moved on a slope. Matthias`s mechanism eliminates the friction though and I believe this is the right way to do it in wood.
    Maybe he has printed a scale the table and the side. The table moves toward the blade when it rises. At least thats how it is on my HC260.

  • @servisblik
    @servisblik 12 лет назад

    Recommend that the shutter blades do not over one piece of plywood, and a set of rods connected by a thin rope between Saboya, Mercator passes through reyki.Pri planing the workpiece, protective shutter to move over to the side and slide to the bottom without disturbing the motion near the machine.

    Actually it's called a jointer because this is exactly what it does. It was first used to reshape multiple stock boards into flat, uniform thicknesses so they could be joined in parallel, side-by-side in order to create wider boards.

    You should do a video on a homemade lathe, cnc router, cnc lathe, router lift and table, cnc drill press, but start with a homemade lathe that is easy but not for wood...one sturdy enough for metal cutting kinda like the harbor freight one but a tad bigger and better.

    The video was well-made and edited and the design of the jointer seems fairly decent (except for maybe using wood as the material). I am more worried about your safety, though. My grandpa was a shop teacher for 30 years and taught me a few things: always use a push stick or pad on the flat side (planer/jointer/tablesaw, etc.), always wear closed shoes in the shop (boots with good traction, preferably), wear safety glasses when doing anything other than sanding by hand, and always de-energize the machine when working on it. I noticed in a couple of the scenes, the motor was unplugged, but I think you should take a more conscious approach about safety, especially if you are making instructional videos. I really like the idea of using a planer to make your own planer/jointer, though. Stay safe!
