Hey brother the links aren’t working for me. Reroutes to another lens.
For anyone wondering, these are the 7artisans Photoelectric 25, 35, and/or 50mm T1.05 Vision Cine Lenses. If you dont want to be forced to click his links.
You got me at budget lens.
Happy to see you more lively than ever!
Thanks!
Hi,
I’m impressed you can focus so good at t1.05. Even with focus peaking, it is not always easily visible (of course you can change the colour), and those rear screens are really small.
So, this with an A7SIII in active stab seems to be a great combo. I’ll think of it.
Great content !
Yah, it take some patience. This lens is particularly sharp at T1.05, compared to most other lenses that open this wide, this makes the focus peaking work much better.
beautifully done mark! great sample footage and good effort to get the quality video out while away from home
Thanks.
I really like your channel. I am pretty new to it but really appreciate what you offer here. Thanks for sharing. Lens looks like a great option.
Awesome, thank you!
I have the 25mm t/1.05 and it is an amazing lens.
Hi, I am thinking to buy this lens, can you help me with some questions? Does the weight of the 25mm lens make it deficult to work with it? Also is this lens ideal for indoor shooting (dialogue shooting) ??
The "cinematic hot dog" made my day! ;)
Thanks! I’m glad someone got the humour.
The art of Photography Ted Forbes is like an older version of you on speed! Very similar delivery and once you know that he knows what he’s talking about you tend to get over his irritations! But I love your videos!
Loving that outdoor shot! Have you done that before? Gimbal or bicycle + duct tape + girlfriend?
Ty
Fabulous video mate - how good is it to get out of the studio? Great info - you’re killing it
Thanks, yes, I really enjoyed this one.
I like this outdoor video!
Yea, I was trying something new. I thought it was more interesting.
For my Z6 I use a Rokinon 50mm and 85mm T1.5 for portraits and the bokeh is stunning
One question I have is why you don't recommend the Full frame version of the vision series? Is it because it's only a T2.0? Can you make a comparison video?
Just discovered how does MF peaking works through this video and immediately grabbed my camera and did what you said. New skill acquired! I’m now confident to use MF! Thank you so much!
That’s awesome to hear, it’s such a powerful feature.
Interesting Mark. Never thought about the resolving power being designed for only 4K/8MP. I am considering the 7Artisans 35mm T2.0 lens from their Spectrum Series (designed for FF) It's $80 less. I think I can live with T2.0, wonder how the bokeh compares? BTW: I'm no RUclipsr or SEO expert, but it seems like the algorithm would help folks find this review if you used "7Artisans" in the title and/or description. They, and TT Artisans are well known in the photo community.
Would have loved to use it with my M50 - but a) there no version with M mount it seems and b) this glass is around 550 USD for me. Oooof. 😀
Anyways, great video!
Thanks, yes, the steady decline in support for ef-m is sad to see.
After the first two seconds, I immediately knew it was a camera from the Panasonic stable. I have a GH5m2 and I'm thinking all the time whether to sell the whole MFT and buy an S5IIx and go completely into FF. On the other hand, I only shoot talking heads and buying a new camera would be overkill :)
Yah, the new camera is unbelievably good. It’s a pleasure use and I really like the footage. I have always wanted to shoot Panasonic, but the autofocus was never up to scratch.
Would you recommend it for stills only?
One quick question, the full frame version of the same lens is available. why you choose the crop.?
Well I will never forget T1.05 haha seriously though, great video!!!
Is this lens would be suitable for s5m2x? I can't find info of this on youtube yet.
Great video Mark! The ghosting in the motion at 0:30 is pretty intense...what camera was that? It has a very strong denoiser 😮
I think we screwed up the shutter speed, and had it too low. First time we used the camera.
How do you think this would look with the Canon m50?
Hey Mark, I am beginner videographer, sony zv-e10 is my first camara. I have knowledge about all the elements of cinematography but i just bought my first camara resuntly. I am planning to make short films and i have some doubts for which i need your help.
1) I will have to shoot indoors. Considering crop factor which lens should be my ideal choice 35mm or 25mm?
2) if i decide to buy 25mm. Will the weight of lens bring more disadvantage compare to advantage of greater focal length.
3) Is there any major distortion issues on 25mm ?
Thanks in advance. Any help will be appreciated.
Hello Mark. Ive been bing watching your videos. Can you please recommend me a good manual lens for video? Which focal lenght is the best?
This or the Laowa Argus 35mm f0.95 for Canon RF full frame? These are close in price now, £500 vs. £600 for me.
Hey Mark, will you be covering the Sirui Nightwalkers? I'm dying for a lens comparison 😎👍
Yea, I hope to bet getting them in the next 30 days, and will compare them.
@@markwiemels sounds perfect 👌
I know the 35mm works on full frame, but does the 50 mm also perform well? Thanks!
Lovely image. I'm torn between these vs the Sirui Nightwalker series. Question: what is that cold shoe adapter you have on the left side of your camera?
It’s just part of the cage. Im due to test the night walker lenses next month.
Great insights into this lenses, thanks!. Which lens out of this series would you recommend for street video during a holiday? 35 or 50? Cheers!
35 for sure.
Very cool video! Curious about why there are so many spelling errors in your title cards, though?
Typos. Just trying to get videos out with limited time.
What is the brand of this lens I think the links are redirecting
the 25mm would be fantastic on sony a6000!
For sure.
Did I miss where you said what it is?
I guess so.
The link doesn't seem to work for me. Could you put the brand name of these lenses out? Very nice review. Thanks!
Here it is - bit.ly/43eMJat
@@markwiemels Thanks so much Mark. I highly appreciate it.
You do a great job with your videos... thank you. I shoot a Nikon z6 and love the camera. I have the kit lens, 24-70 Nikon that came with it. This is a great lens but has its limitations. I do a lot of church photography and length and distance is an issue. The church has low light and I am forced to be away from the subject so I must use a zoom. I have found that using my Nikon DX 18-200 3.5-5.6 with the adaptor is a great lens but not good enough full extended in low light. My budget is limited. I love your approach in offering some of the less know lenses that seem to do a great job. I need a zoom lens, z mount, at a reasonable price, can you help me?
The new Nikon Z 70-180 f2.8 is the obvious, and maybe the only, choice. Not sure you will get anything that does what you want any cheaper. You would have to keep a wider lens around, for when you need it.
Thank you for taking time to give me some good advise.. ordering one today. @@markwiemels
How would you compare this to surui night walkers?
I still need to do a side by side, but the 35mm 7Artisans is the best of all of them, but I think the 35mm and 55/50mm are pretty close. I will try to do a comparison video.
Where are you shooting this to have the Canadian and American flag?
On the border. Sarnia, ON.
Do you know which ef to rf non dummy manual lens adapter works to tell my canon R8 or R5c to ignore the fact that I'm attaching a crop sensor lens to my full frame camera thus forcing it into a 1.6x crop mode that I can't disable? I heard there are some adapters out there that don't pass that information through from the lens to the camera but I have the canon brand adapter and it forces the camera into crop mode. The reason I am asking is because I have the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 ef Art crop lens that actually covers the full frame and would be nice to use the entire sensor. I can slightly untwist the lens a millimeter or so to disable the contacts but then it acts like a manual lens. I still want autofocus obviously. Any ideas on adapters?
I have never heard of that. Interesting idea.
I checked this is ASP C lens, abit confuse whether it is full flame lens or ASP C lens?
I talked about this in the video.
Yeah it was mentioned at the start of video.
Can we use this on Rf Mount cameras. How diff is a cine lens
Yes. This covers some of the key differences - ruclips.net/video/6-qpWevWEnI/видео.html
I want to start a website on youtube to read cards. What do I need to do or buy? Any info would be appreciated. Not a tekkie.
Start with the kits lens, and get good lighting. Your lighting will be more important than the lens.
I got the RF 25mm f1.05 a few days ago and got a chance to work with it yesterday. One thing right off the bat... (besides damn, it's heavy for its size)... it doesn't seem like the mount is aligned properly. Instead of the f-stop and distance settings being on the top, they're on the side (left side from behind the camera) - is it just like that on mine or is that the way it's supposed to be? Seems like the barrel of my lens was assembled wrong, maybe... with an (approx) 90 degree offset. My lens also came with four screws which I assume are for mounting an auto-focus mechanism and when the lens is mounted to the camera, the screws are on top and bottom and I'm thinking they should be on the sides. Other's experiences/thoughts would be appreciated... I'm thinking this one needs to be returned or repaired.
[[EDIT]]: OK, watching this video again, I see that your lens is the same way so it must be intentional - why? Is this the standard for cinematic lenses? Seems weird, but I obviously have no experience in this area. I feel better seeing your lens being the same way, though.
It’s so the dedicated focus puller, that they using in high end video productions, like Hollywood movies, can see the focus markings.
Is the footage soft i saw a youtube video where the 25 and 50mm were terribly soft unlike 35mm
The 35 is sharp, and by far the sharpest, even wide open. The other two do need to be stoped down a little if you want more clinal sharpness, but are still perfectly usable wide open, for the right shot. The samples in this video are almost all shot wide open, and when they are soft, it’s just me missing focus.
@@markwiemels i have a feeling the youtube video i saw where a guy was comparing it to a sirui either got a bad lens or is using filter to put bad light on 7artisan to save Siriu's face idk.
I have seen 5 more footage from 7art and none of them were as soft as that guys
@@cyano3d here is my 25mm video - ruclips.net/video/qSSOTIx3Q78/видео.html Thinking back on it, I did shoot the lens at T1.2, rather than T1.05 at times, just to clean up the image a bit. I think you can consider T1.2-1.4 very good, with T 1.05 more of a bonus mode, on the 25mm. The 35mm is sharp right from T1.05.
Any version of this work with Ef-m or ef?
Unfortunately not.
@@markwiemels well sad haha. thanks for the reply, not ready to invest in a new camera, just hobby and family stuff, but was hoping to get a budget cinema lens for that system. Currently using the Mark 50 II. Thank you for the great content, hope you are doing as good as can be expected!
Now whenever I see a hotdog (or normal dogs) in movies I will remember the *cinematic hotdog* lol.
The new camera that you are using for A roll looks great! Thanks for the tip about the 35mm.
What would you recommend for an entry level cinema camera? I know Sony has the FX line and not sure if the a7R like too.
I got a combo of the a6000 and like 4 E lenses wit it (kit lens + 55-200mm, 50mm 1.8 prime and the FE 28-70mm).
However I simply don't like the ergonomics of the a6000 and I am considering to do an upgrade at the end of the year and woul like to try a dedicated cinema camera.
Haha… thanks. If you have those Sony lenses, I would go with the FX30 without hesitation.
@@markwiemels thanks for the reply! And keep up the good work.
Is sigma 16mm good or 11mm ?
Both of those lenses are very good. Pick the focal length that works best for you.
@@markwiemels which i got ?
Man if this was autofocus I'd get it. I paid lots for the best AF out there (Canon R6 II) so it would be a shame to not use it.
It’s a fair point. MF has its place in the right setting.
Well, AF is great for still imagery…but, in most pro video work is done manual focus.
It does take a bit of practice if your pulling manually or doing so as a one man band. I’ve always shot video focus manually…is set up the shot, I had a long metal ruler in a heavy Vice that sits in floor placed where I’ll stand, and I would set focus there…then start the camera, walk over and remove the ruler thing and stand in place and film my bit…
It sounds a pain, but not that bad, and makes you think of your shots and cuts a bit more.
Anyway one last thing…the GREAT thing about modern mirrorless cameras allow you to adapt almost and vintage MF lens for cool looks…
Anyway, hope this helps!
No EF?!?
Unfortunately, Almost no one is making EF Lenses now, not even Canon.
What I learned from this video: Your family eats ALOT
Mostly Cinematic Hotdogs.
Not once did you mention the lens name/brand 😂. Looks really impressive though
I did mention the name of the series of lenses (vision), but these 3rd party lenses have such obscure names, it’s hardly relevant without the product links. One tripod that I reviewed had a model name of, “heavy duty video tripod” These companies make great products, but haven’t nailed the marketing yet.
I think you are overemphasizing being able to use this lens in both a full-frame and crop mode. You bring it as if it is something unique or revolutionary. As far as I know, you can use pretty much all modern full-frame lenses in crop mode. Canon, Sony, and Nikon all offer this feature. I am less familiar with the other brands, but I would be surprised if they didn't have it as well. Yes, this is a neat feature for sure, but it is nothing new or revolutionary. It is certainly not a selling point of this lens, and it is not something to dwell on IMO.
You’re right and wrong at the same time. What he failed to mention and what you don’t understand is that putting this particular lens on a full frame has very little to no vignette. Most other crop sensor lenses have a significant vignette once you put them on a full frame camera which makes the majority of these lenses impossible to use without significant cropping to remove the unwanted vignette while also sacrificing resolution. I own this lens and Mark is completely correct. It’s truly unique in that sense because it has a very minimal amount of vignette of my full frame Sony a7s3. So it’s essentially a hybrid lens. I’ve never seen any other lens that can do this without heavily cropping or digitally zooming into the image.
@@MyMarketingGuy101 The vignette would be appears every FF sensors? Includes s5m2x?
Hey Mark...I am curious. How do you compare this one with some sharp vintage lenses, say a Contax zeiss 35mm or a SMC Takumar 35 mm, in terms of image quality. Except the housing and handling, are the image characteristics almost similar?
I’m working on some comparisons now. I think the newer lenses are better, but the vintage stuff can be pretty good and much cheaper. I think the reason to pick vintage lenses would be price, or if you are looking for a specific image quality trait they offer. If you are on a budget, I think getting a set of vintage lenses is a great way to get started.
@@markwiemels The Contax c/y and Pentax Takumars are much sharper, not only in the center but all the way to the corners, but at least an aperture less bright. They also have better colors and contrast, and no, professional film lenses generally do not have lower contrast than consumer lenses, but quite the opposite; higher contrast.
Am I only person who is utterly bored of the ultra-shallow depth of field look? Our eyes don't normally JUST focus on one small section of a screen when we watch a film or video. they rove around because our brain is trying to understand the environment. IMHO, the ability to shoot really shallow makes videographers lazy. I mean, who needs nice backgrounds, or nice lighting, or good composition when you can just obliterate the background??? I guess I am just disinterested in making everything look like it was shot in Portrait Mode on an iPhone ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Like anything it’s just a tool. In any real world situation you would use it selectively. It’s becoming popular to be hate on shallow depth of field, but in real life I’m not seeing any projects behind shot like that. Videos like this are just demos of a lens capabilities, and the headline capability of a lens like this is the shallow depth of field, so that’s what you demonstrate. As you stop down, things just get better and sharper, so if it’s good wide open, it’s probably good at all T stops. So I think, videos like this one, are marking you think that everyone is just getting these lenses and shooting wide open all the time, but anyone with any experience or skill, is not doing that at all. I think that’s just a perception from watching RUclips videos.
