Agree. To see if the film is interesting I usually look at a still a bit further in. By chance I landed at 10:20 where there's a close up of Carole. I took a screen shot, played with Color Balance and could make a poster to hang on my wall!
@johanna richmond in your diseased mind...no where else. America is still a great melting pot, something we were proud of when our ancestors were immigrants. Most of us are still proud of the diversity that makes us quite special.
There was a time, long, long ago when Hollywood made movies with a plot. Then they found out that sex and violence drew the lower element who had more time to watch movies.
amen Billie. more and more writers and producers convinced studio bosses that the public WANTS skin and blood gutss and veins and the plot be damned!! in the old movies, when a person was shot, there was NO BLOOD, even when the body was drug to another location, beause the shooting was simply a part of the PLOT.
A very entertaining movie with William Gargan, Carole Landis, and a good supporting cast including John Ireland. The movie has a good plot, pacing, and acting.
as I have written before. women back then WERE SEXY, without showing a BIT OF SKIN!!! they didn't need to because they had TALENT! This movie, like most, were considered B movies. That's because they were filmed in a week and on a VERY LOW BUDGET!! A budget that was far less than stars like Clark Gable was paid for a movie like Gone with the Wind. Especially during the war years, movies were filmed quickly and on extremely low budgets. So those at home in America could go to a theater and watch a new movie, if not two, every week. And the actors and actresses didn't need Q cards, they KNEW their lines! IF they were paid ridiculous figures, like 8 million for each movie, or 1 million an episode, the American audiences would only have cartoons and news reels in the theaters!! It amazes and sickens me, because on TV, it costs the advertisers millions for a 30 second space and that cost IS passed onto US in the cost of the products advertised!! How in the world can the cast of shows like Friends be worth a million dollars EACH for each episode?!!? That cost is passed on, again, to US! I could go on and on but I'm certain that the reader understands what I'm saying!
Enjoyable yarn, an hour well spent. You know the more I see Caroles films the less I think of her suicide and the more I think of her talent and beauty.
@DAUGHTEROFBABYLON Perhaps, Rex Harrison played a part. He and Carole were having a fling, while he was married to another. Who knows. Very tragic, indeed. She was a fine actress and easy on the eyes.
There is this '46 version and an earlier '35 version, The IMDB description is slightly different, they may be dissimilar enough that the other is an interesting movie, too, as this one sounds like it is.
Detective jobs are not easy to do ,it needs a lot of cracks in the brain and The Holy spirit to help you out, a lot of patience is also needed, it seemed a lot of innocence are in jail because of lack of patience in investigating, Thanks for the movie.

The reporters actually reported back then. These days they cut and paste banal biased tweets and plagiarise.
Well said. Journalism back ground?
I agree, a nicely done little bit of film noir. Thanks for making it available.
Very good movie, glad I chose to watch it. These old black and white movies are great. Thanks.
Movies involving Stolen or Missing corpses are always the best.
Very entertaining - thanks for posting!
Thanks! Many familiar faces throughout. enjoyed
People dressed so classy back then.

"Have you got any John Does in the icebox?" This guy is something else...

There was so little of it, they found it necessary to introduce the Heys Code, to make sure there would be even less of it.
Mint quality on this one pizza..thanks for the upload

Yeah, and when they would show just a BIT OF SKIN, like Veronica Lake in "I married a witch", it is not sexy anymore - it is RAGING with sex appeal...
Good flick thank you for posting

One of the most beautiful women in Hollywood.
Enjoyable yarn, an hour well spent. You know the more I see Caroles films the less I think of her suicide and the more I think of her talent and beauty.
She was such a good artist, her family never did believe she did that, thought she was murdered by,,, another man.

Good story, great acting - why only 700 likes in ten years?
Many people are missing out on the great films of the past. If they only knew...
Love this old movie it makes great atmosphere background
OMG that was a great milk-toss up to the window! 😁
Opening music sounds like Deadline USA
Gargan was always excellent.
9:03 The actor playing the editor, what was his name and was he the ships captain on the gale storm show?

Good film. You'll enjoy, guaranteed. March, 2023.
They dressed for success.. I can't iron nor can I afford the dry cleaning bills. Guess I'd show up in cargo shorts and flip-flops.
If you dress as stylish as they did back then, you would be out of place...😞
Sad to remember Carole Landis killed herself 2 years after this picture
xela g at the age of 29. She had been married 5 times...
Such a fine actress. Her family never believed she'd done that but she was killed,, by another man.
Bruce F. Card that man being Rex Harrison.
@@TheMoonflwr671 No it wasn't.
Which proves that all that fame, fortune and Looks don't always bring u happiness.
the police chief was the only convincing actor in it
What was behind the green door?
Interesting movie.
"I guess this does look pretty bad."
Detective jobs are not easy to do ,it needs a lot of cracks in the brain and The Holy spirit to help you out, a lot of patience is also needed, it seemed a lot of innocence are in jail because of lack of patience in investigating, Thanks for the movie.

Kinda boring, really. .Landis is mediocre at best, and what the heck is up with her hideous hat!
Carole was never mediocre.
Those terrible hats were de rigeur in the '40s.
There's no accounting for taste...😒
