Wheee! lol My GSD pulls the bike in a harness, we've had some cars try to race us down residential roads lol. He loved every second of it and lived for the harness. I don't run him with the harness anymore (he's getting older) but he still can hit tip top speeds running along side the bike :)
Me and my friends are planning on getting some dogs when we move out in a few years, well a few years after we move out, but we live in Canada, and we want to move to White Horse, or somewhere up there to do some sled dogging just for fun
@@brauljo same speed, but not necessarily the same force applied. The two in back May be required to take more stress in a tight corner or in a sudden sharp uphill. (Think running across a ditch.)
Hi! I’ve been trying to start my two dogs (husky mal mix, and a malamute) on sled pulling. They try to bite each other running side by side, do you know how I could fix this? I was thinking maybe blinders but don’t they need their peripheral vision?
Absolutely Amazing!!!! Awsome !! I enjoyed every second of that video. I am only sad that it was not me on that sled, I have only four siberians and only if they see deer will I get that speed out of four of them trust me when I say if a deer was in front of them these four could do 20mph, but only then! where on earth are you located maybe I could come up and get a ride sometime.. Thanks for this video post...
Sadly, Siberians are not fast. (comparitively). 20 years or so ago Al Stead ran a team of the best Siberians in the world in the Open North American Championship. He was last all three days....although general thought was that this was a super effort by Siberians. They weren't THAT far off the pace. Their bodies won't develop the length of reach for each stride to hit and hold speed like this for long. I watched a 3-dog skijouring race (dogs pull musher on skis) for 5k (3 miles). The best Siberian team time was about 10 minutes. The winning team did the same trail in 7 minutes and 24 seconds. Trail was accurately GPS'd for distance.
At the Open North American Championship a team runs 20 miles Friday, 20 on Saturday and 30 on Sunday. (70 total) at this speed. I believe the Streepers have won that race. Not sure. The dogs are a mixture, but there is Pointer and Greyhound figuring heavily into that mix.
This sprint "breed" is actually a mixed breed that look more like hounds than huskies. Years of specialized breeding for speed & smarts only results in these super-fast sprint dogs. Generally they run 1 mile per dog in races ~ a team this size could run 18-20 miles at a pretty darn fast clip. That was a nice flat trail and ideal trail conditions. Regarding running the dogs hard... with nothing more than a 30 pound sled & no breaks to speak of - the dogs are the ones in control ;)
@@pjswag2118 Ahahah sure has... I actually became a dogsled guide last winter before covid. When I originally commented on this video going dogsledding for real.was my biggest dream and it finally became a reality.

Well...yes and no. Salukis can run flat out (35-40 mph) for 4 miles or so. These guys will average 20 mph for 30 miles. So...slower, but more stamina by far. Had some Saluki (and Greyhound) mixed in with mine. Need some pointer to push the attitude to run, and the #of miles up.

People get rid of dogs that aren't good at pooping "on the fly." At this level of racing, a dog pooping can cost you the win. seconds between times. And this kennel in particular is in the business of supplying dogs to racing mushers. They win, in large part, because they breed the most dogs. They are in the business of winning races, because they are in the business of selling winning race dogs. And they engage in "performance culling" to find these dogs. Its puppy milling with extra steps. Mushing is cool. But dog sled racing should be illegal for the all the same reasons grey hound racing is illegal across most of the us. @@antwannelson2266 I just randomly decided to watch this video, and realized that apparently i watched it before too, and commented! Haha sorry for the super late reply. Alaskan huskies are super mutts, a mix of usually many breeds, to form a perfect sled dog. Looking back on this video now, these actually look like eurohounds to me. Eurohounds are a variety of alaskan husky, but consist of less breeds (husky & pointer), and are more specifically built for speed and are usually used for sprint racing. From what ive seen, sight hounds (or mixes that have a high content of sight hound) dont seem to be used for this sort of thing usually.
