Yep, it's because of the different wings, the LF Mk IXC has the C type wing. Basically the spitfires had different wing types, they had the A type wing which could hold only 8x .303 browning, the B type wing which could hold 2x Hispano Mk.II with 60 rpg + 4x .303 browning, the C type wing which was essentially universal, allowing for either 8x .303 although that was to my knowledge never used, 2x Hispano Mk.II with 120 rpg + 4x .303 browning or 4x Hispano Mk.II with 120 rpg. The E type wing came around later in the war, allowing for the mounting of the M2 browning .50 and the possible weapon configs for the wings were either 4x Hispano Mk.II with 120 rpg or 2x Hispano Mk II with 135 rpg + 2x M2 browning .50 with 260 rpg. This is also the wing the F Mk XIVe and F Mk XVIIe usez and also the wing the tech tree LF IX uses, as it is a later model than the LF IXc that the plagis is.

Thanks for the objective videos Defyn, i love it when you do demonstrations of a plane's capabilites in a consise and honest way. Would be amazing to hear your opinions on some other planes in that way
I think you kinda missed the beauty of what the FR Mk XIV does compared to the normal griffon. The extra roll rate gives you a much easier time getting shots in. The extra speed allows you to keep pace with faster enemies as they try to gain separation or move between furballs. Basically it fixes the two most annoying things about the F Mk XIV at 5.7. At that BR there are very few hold S key fights, few pilots at that BR are that dumb against the spits. Its almost exclusively energy traps from GER + minor nations and boom and zoom from the US. Having more speed going into a fight really helps in both situations. You can use the energy bleed to reverse people like nobodies business. And the loss of the turn and climb isn't enough to give many enemies an advantage they didn't already have before the clipping. The only one that really comes to mind is the Yak 3U. It's one of my best planes. You can ride the griffon engine hard. Run it into orange. A couple minutes back in the white basically resets the overheat. Shutting the rads to zero in a dive turns it into a speeding banshee. The fast fuel burn really helps performance mid game on 20 min fuel. Best of luck! And great content as always!
YP-38 is a warcrime SL printer in AAB if you don't dislike the 37mm (something like 20mms would be way better but it would increase its br). It's a 2.3 plane so it can be used in a 2.0 lineup, which means that it will face reserves pretty much every single battle, and this is a Lignthing.
One thing to consider with the 5.7 spits is that if you play RB you will all most always get the small games with 4 JU-288s and 2 fighters so you will will never actually get to dogfight with them. I love the Plagis spit, but you just don't get good games with it.
As someone who just got the TT LF Mk IX today. This is absolutely true, all the Games ive been having were US and Brit VS Germany (sometimes with Italy). And most of the games were small and consisted of 3-4 288s while only having 2-3 Fighters and 0-1 Strike aircraft (Do 335), while we got 5-6 Fighters xD
In Griffon Spits vs the LF Merlin Spits, no doubt you'll lose in the turnfight. I still enjoy them though, their playstyle imo still fits the meta because of their performance characteristics. The gap between you and the energy fighters is narrowed, so it's harder for people to just run away from you, which can happen a lot for the Merlin Spits. If you think of it more as a hybrid than a turnfighter, I still think you can have great results.
5.7 Griffons are around 10mph faster in level flight than the LF.IX at relevant alts. They trade a crap ton of maneuverability, climb and MER for a small boost in level flight speed 5km and below. It really isn't a good trade off. The only real meaningful performance gain that Griffons provide is 6km+. Ironic that the clipped wing Griffon was a special meant to maximize low alt performance to deal with V-1 flying bombs, specifically in regards to speed, and yet it is barely any faster than the other Griffons.
@@reinbeers5322 Because they could catch them in a dive, they had more Spits than anything else at home squadrons, at least til late 44, and they were the fastest planes that could respond in a pinch. Granted in level flight most Spits couldn't keep up with the V-1s but you don't need to keep up when you just need to catch for long enough to shoot them down. Most early V-1 kills were by Spits.
I bought the LF long ago. Back then I had no idea how things work and that it sucks. At least I just paid 15€ on sale. 6000GE my ass... that's completely overprized.
@@Siddich Actually the clipped wings are very, very slightly faster. Very, very slightly being about 2mph. They should be anywhere from 5-15mph faster depending on the specific Spit variants. Clipped wings have very usable strengths. The issue is that the trade off for those strengths magnifies the weaknesses of the Spitfire design that much more essentially meaning that you can't fly a clipped wing like a traditional Spit at all. That said the clipped wing LF.IX is the best clipped wing by far. You take the only Spit that is at least above average in MER, clip the wings for snappier handling for a slight reduction in turn and MER? Personally I like it.
Don't buy any of these unless you already fly the base version excessively, otherwise you'll never fly them. You'll always have something at a better BR or with a better multiplier, seriously people control your spending! Don't let FOMO get you!
