Grew up on Italian Delight the one in KCK @ the old Indian Springs Mall. They were like one of the last places to leave the mall before they closed it down. They moved to 82 St. and have been there every since. The one in Mission, KS is good too. The same family. One of the Brothers started his own and kept the name. Nicks is good too. I say Italian Delight is better but just slightly.
For a good New York slice, I suggest Original Pizza at Antioch and College Blvd (also in Oak Park Mall food court). For a Midwestern thin crust, I highly recommend Tim's Pizza in Independence (cash only).
Another good one is Grimaldi's. I've been to the original location in Brooklyn and they are close....the Brooklyn and Midtown Manhattan one is a bit better.
Pizza Tascio is really good. I would suggest Providence By Thee Slice in Westport. Their New York style is the best that I have had. They also have a great Detroit style as well
I second this motion, it's quite good. I also used to be pretty fond of Tim's Pizza back in the day, I saw someone else recommended it above as well. Good recommendations if you haven't tried them before for sure.
You guys are forgetting about original pizza in Blue Springs. I think they have one in Kansas somewhere. Also, traditional New York pizza owners are from Brooklyn/queens.
I thought Bronx was great several years ago, but I feel the quality has gone downhill. And now there is only one location that hasn’t closed. Old Shawnee has varied wildly in quality between each location for me. But I’ve never had that other one. Worth a try, huh?

For a great wood fired pizza try Il Lazzarone down by River Market area. Make sure you hit up Betty Ray's Ice Cream a few doors down afterword to get your sweet tooth on. I've also gotta say J&S Pizza in Liberty, just outside of KCMO, has the most amazing thin cracker crust pizza with loads and loads of toppings. Its easily one of my favorite places to get pizza.
I moved to KC from the East Coast and the biggest disappointment for me is the pizza. The only one I've truly loved so far is Dewey's, which is actually a small chain in a few states. I don't know what it is but it's like nobody knows how to make a good pizza out here, it's mostly mediocre crust with way too much cheese and toppings. Pizza Tascio looked like a legit pie though, so I'll definitely try them.
I haven't had Fat Sully's yet. It's on my list, to try but I'm not sure if I'll do a video on it. I try to stick to places that are local for the most part in my travels. Since Fat Sully's started in Colorado, I've been debating on if I should make a video review or not. I mean, it's faire game if I go back to Colorado.
I really wish there was “great” pizza in KC. There just isn’t. There is some decent pizza to be found, but compared to NY or New Haven, CT, we fall far short. Providence Pizza for their NY/Detroit/Sicilian pizzas is pretty good. Pizza Tascio and Buffalo state are okay for NY style. Original Pizza should also be on the NY style list. Summit or Waldo Pizza make a good thin tavern style. We could use some help with good pizza in the area. People are mentioning Mama Leone’s so I will give it a shot.
No CaddyShack 30 years in Columbus Park ? No Milwaukee Delicatessen, 100 years downtown ?? And Cafe Al Dante had the best pie in town/City Market for 20 years before the landlord tried forcing them to remodel after they won the lottery... LoL so they retired

I waited a long time to try Minskys after moving here, and with much anticipation, finally tried it when some friends came to town. It was easily the worst pizza I’ve had in KC, and very expensive (visiting friends did not like it either)… I like Grinders, but it’s not really a traditional pizza flavor (tasty in its own way, though). I want to like Buffalo State, but the cheese is rather bland... Pizza Tascio is pretty good, but Providence Pizza and Pizza 51 are my favorite so far!.. I do feel like this video needed to include many more places to properly identify the best in KC, as the previous comments mention several that would be worth reviews.
Buffalo State is AWESOME. formerly Papa Keno's before the franchise owner became a real RICHARD. Both my daughters work there. (one is in the vid) The owners are good local guys. The only things not hand-made in-house are olives & anchovies. All I need in KC is Buffalo State / Minsky's / Old Shawnee Pizza / Pizza Shoppe
I'm hearing from some people that Minsky's can vary wildly between locations. I've only been to three of them. But you should absolutely try Pizza Tascio!
I went to pizza tascios and the pizzas I had and I ordered 2 different kinds didn’t have any sauce on the pizza. I’d say it would be very good pizza if it had sauce on it. So if you prefer pizza without sauce then yeah it would be really good pizza for you. I ordered 3 slices and a coke that was 18 dollars . A bit overpriced.

So true. The only one that I've actually liked so far is Dewey's pizza, which is a chain that originated in Ohio... I've been to most of the top KC pizza places (~4.5+ on Google) and I wouldn't go back to any of them. Most of it tasted like something you'd get in a cafeteria.
Minsky’s heavily declined over the years. I’ve been to the one in Leawood on State Line, the plaza near the library, and the one not to far from Union Station. I was disappointed in all of them. Martin City Pizza and Taproom, Providence Pizza in Grandview, Mamma Leone’s Pizza, and Southside Mafia’s Pizzeria are better than Minsky’s.
I wonder if the quality varies heavily by location because I’ve been to several but none that you mentioned. I’ve done Independence, Lenexa, and Olathe locations.

I have to disagree with your assessment of both Minsky’s and Pizza Shoppe, but tastes are subjective and it can often be what you order as the determining factor of whether you enjoy the meal. I haven’t heard of Old Milwaukee Deli or Providence by the slice though. I’ll have to check those out!
I love Pizza Shoppe! Italian Delight was great too in the old Indian Springs location. There is still one out in the western KCK part of town. Great Calazones too:)
Leo’s hands down for a st Lewis style pizza hands down so much better than the sham that has stores here go to Leo’s if you want a St. Louis style pizza

Your second spot for New York Pizza, VERY Unfortunately, you never once verbalized the name of it !!! The only way we can get the name of it is to watch for a 2-second spot when the camera very quickly scans by a faded wooden sign on the outside of the building. . If I read the sign correctly, it was "Grinders K.C.". (and I see you have its name when you click on "MORE", but really -- you should have verbalized its name at least once.
Being a thin crust pizza guy, Buffalo State always hits the mark for me. Getting a slice of the stockyard slightly over done slaps. There's just not many pizza places that do thin and crispy well. Buffalo State, Old Shawnee (though crazy overpriced) probably have the best thin and crispy options for pizza. And I'll just say it, I'm also enjoy a good tavern style so I really like Imo's. It's an interesting combo with the Provel cheese that gives it almost a creamy texture but I like it
Can't beat Fun House Pizza-Lee's Summit Mo! YUM!

There is a pizza place in Liberty Little Nicky’s. They have an Italian sausage, blue cheese and grape pizza that while it sounds strange is phenomenal
I’m all for sampling unique pizzas, but blue cheese and I sadly don’t get along.

I’m from west Philly and good pizza is a must…the ONLY place to get east coast pizza is at Tascio’s. Nothing else in KC can compare.

John Lloyd's Pizza Factory was the best pizza in Kansas City.
No one from Philly puts peppers on a cheese steak. Cheese whiz or American with or without onions that’s it.

Pizza tascio is drunk pizza at best. The brookside location is new. Not 3 years old.
The company in KC area as a whole is 3 years old. They are currently up to 6 locations.
I’ve never liked Minsky’s although my family does. Also, Pizza Tascio is too light on the sauce for my liking.

I used to like them, but the last few times I’ve been there haven’t been very good. I actually recorded there for this video and then trashed the footage because the pizza wasn’t that great.

I hadn’t been to Waldo in a few years and actually filmed there for this episode. In my experience that day, Waldo isn’t what it used to be. For that reason, I didn’t include Waldo Pizza.
Minsky's is by far my favorite! I am so glad you featured Pizza Tascio as I had never heard of it so can't wait to try them. Also never heard of Buffalo State so will try them as well. Thanks for sharing!

There was a time I would have included Pizza Shoppe, but the last few times I’ve been haven’t lived up to how great I thought they were a decade ago.
@@destinationdebrief I think the ingredients aren't what they used to be all across the board these days. It makes it tough to be consistent. Your at the mercy of your suppliers.

I actually like the KCMO Grinders a bit better than the Lenexa location. But other than Grinders, have you had any others I suggested?

Your second spot for New York Pizza, VERY Unfortunately, you never once verbalized the name of it !!! The only way we can get the name of it is to watch for a 2-second spot when the camera very quickly scans by a faded wooden sign on the outside of the building. . If I read the sign correctly, it was "Grinders K.C.". (and I see you have its name when you click on "MORE", but really -- you should have verbalized its name at least once.

Being a thin crust pizza guy, Buffalo State always hits the mark for me. Getting a slice of the stockyard slightly over done slaps. There's just not many pizza places that do thin and crispy well. Buffalo State, Old Shawnee (though crazy overpriced) probably have the best thin and crispy options for pizza. And I'll just say it, I'm also enjoy a good tavern style so I really like Imo's. It's an interesting combo with the Provel cheese that gives it almost a creamy texture but I like it
