About the Director(s):
Ruwan Heggelman started making short films after experiencing the amazing Shaun of the Dead way back in 2004. At the age of 13 he finished his first zombie film and his journey to become a filmdirector had started. The dark side of humanity appeals to Heggelman, because it lives in everyone and it just needs the right incentives to wake up. It is one big playground for interesting themes, stories & characters. He graduated from the University of the Arts Utrecht as a writer & director with the Tuschinski film nominated short film Best Friends. Best Friends is a 30 minute buddy comedy, with a touch of horror, film and has been shown at 20+ film festivals and various movie theatres for a year and a half. After the succes of Best Friends he started focusing on other theme's and genre's. The short romantic comedy with a fantasy twist I Can Fly was born after experiencing a emotional abstract dream, that tried to process certain experiences. He took inspiration from the abstract dream and wrote the scenario together with Thij de Haan. He directed I Can Fly, with Remy Jesse Schepers as the producer at his side. Heggelman is constantly looking for interesting perspectives for telling a story, often with a mash-up of genre's, like his SCREAMFEST selected short film MIME. The film serves as a pilot for a full fledged (web) series or feature film. Heggelman and his team are currently looking for parties to collaborate.

The mime's powers were a bit horrifying but I think he has a backstory that's worse. It seemed like he needed to use the man's body to communicate, and that is incredibly sad and horrifying. To be in the world but not be a part of it. That last place at the end: is it the mime's real world, or is it just what he sees?

Hence the scars on his throat, he has damaged or no vocal cords. Either an accident or possibly self inflicted to obtain power (latter is my vote). Either way he physically can not seem to speak.

Exactly: mimes "can't" talk. This one REALLY can't (but there are some pretty fuckin' rad things he CAN do), and he chose a really bad dude to look at for a case study. Lol.
This Mime got some serious fighting moves. This was a good short story. I loved how friendly he was towards the girls. Nice work, Screamfest.

Where could I find this movie
I think he's tired of his world. Dull, unorganized, no love and no color. He wants to be in our world and would definitely respect it. I get that from him reacting to the guy who threw the cigarette on the ground and why he stood up against those bad guys and who were also being bad to the women. But he later sees that he can't exist in our world being what he is. Maybe he was not always a mime.
If you look, he's wearing a scarf when he goes to talk to the woman he fancies, but earlier in the park, a deep neck scar that wraps around his lower throat can be seen. its a strange scar too, it's very geometric, as if something VERY traumatic cut him, not a sharp knife but something like square rebar
Actually upon rewatching the squareness of the scar isn't always there and I'm realizing that may have been a fluke with the makeup department

@@thijdehaan1675 You and the entire cast plus writers and crew are all very talented...so creative. This short film is impressive with a curious leading character who appears to have greatly suffered for some reason and lost his senses to speak, but the trade off comes about with him possessing new strength with supernatural powers. Still, at the end of the day, he's deeply human and emotional and seemingly very alone. This story deserves a full movie.

I just love the sequence when he starts walking. The music, the camera work, I honestly need more of that. It's some John Wick level shit. I also love how he "Unsheathes" his powers. He "grabs" something from his pocket, spins it around, and then turns out his hand. I don't imagine a physical object would quite fit whatever is going on there, visible or invisible, but a metaphysical weapon

Where could I see this movie
The effects were what sold this short film to me. The mime's "antics" were indeed unexpected. I expected some sort of chaos at what seemed to me an idiotic hazing party. An intriguing short story.
This is so good! The acting is pure gold, we can feel all his emotions, his doubts, I wish this movie was hours long. I would watch a full series about his storie.

I was sad that it wasn't. I have so many questions that I will never know the answer 2.
This was almost sadder than a real mime. The stitches around the throat, use of a scarf to cover the embarrassment of that-not the fact he was a mime. The end almost indicating a sci-fi horror to it. Just fabulous & loved! Left me wanting more!!!!
This was very interesting and extremely well done. It seems the Mime is from another world, so an alien or entity from another dimension. I like that he was very keen and only handed out appropriate punishments. He didn’t punish the girl who took his money because she was being forced. He punished the lesser baddies but not with permanent injuries, only enough to scare them. He of course punished the main bad dude the most, but he didn’t even necessarily kill him. These types of vengeance creatures tend to dish out punishments too severe, like killing some troublemaking teenagers and such. I’m always like, “wow, did you have to kill them just for doing XYZ bad thing?”. This Mime has restraint in punishments and I really respect that you wrote him like that.

Despite the Dutch language there is no need for subtitles. This is a brilliant horror comedy film through and through. Here's hoping there is a sequel, I want to see more of our anti-hero mime. ❤️🖤

I saw the hero (anti-hero?) has scars on his throat, indicating even if he wanted to he couldn’t speak. That’s amazing how the character was created, and the actor is gorgeous!
This was pretty much the best I’ve seen story wise for such a short presentation. Whoever wrote and directed this are incredibly talented.

I loved this so much. So creative and the filmmaking is just amazing.
I enjoyed this film as I did not know what to expect as it went on. I think that this could make a good series, as it would allow the audience to learn more of the mime's backstory.

Before I was asked to play the part, I never would have thought the art of mime would ever be blended with the art of film making. But once we discussed ideas, it made a lot of sense. The approach of imagination is so different in both art forms, and yet the director's vision opened up the doors to a world in which both art forms enhance each other. As a consequence, it helped uniting the mime and film actor within me. Glad you can appreciate it!

I really liked how he became black and white when using his abilities. I kinda of thought of it as him being in one of those invisible boxes and that it was containing him. And when he left the box it's like the invisible box was containing him and his abilities. And the camera work for the part when he was using his abilities kinda of made think the world was revolving around his center of gravity.

I just fell in love with this character honestly, and at that time i just saw a lil glimpse of him which was actually an edit of this. This is truely Masterpiece. Looking forward for more of Mime Stories

This is a master piece. The mime in this really shows the type of loneliness I rarely see. One of deeper mind and potential that it becomes lonely at the top. Which I admit is a bit narcissistic on my part. But I am in my own way extraordinary. Reality warping is its own dimension of excellence. I honestly could see this guy become a cult classic like doctor who. The acting the effects are just perfect and it give that gut feeling you get when a bad ass is doing their bad assest.
