Am I the only one who feels that it might be a normal reaction to kill the person who had you locked in a cellar for your entire life? I mean sure he may have done that before and maybe thats why he is down there...but I would have that reaction if I tasted freedom and my oppressor captor was getting the upper hand. I dont care if it was my mother or not. He had a long time to sit and dwell and let the anger consume him so that would explain the absolute brutality
That's what I had been thinking, but the part that made him seem more crazy was when he looked around like he didn't know what happened and didn't ever seem to fully process what he did.
I think the guy was insane and his mom kept him there cuz she didn’t want to kill him, but she knew she couldn’t let him free. I have to say that if I had a child like that in those times, I would’ve probably done the same thing. It’s not like they had rehabs back then
I feel like most people missed the point. Jesse’s mom made him crazy and he reacted in a very understandable way. That girl is nuts, taking over this woman’s life and role as prison guard. Jesse is the only one whose motives I don’t question because killing your abuser makes perfect sense.
How true & usually you find the barrel of a 12 gauge pointed at your face & not just bread. I though Mary as odd as the mother . Ask for a hand out don't try & steal it.
Absolutely brilliant. The audience can draw their own conclusion from this tragic story. Extremely well acted, especially from the lovely young actress who played Mary.
"drawing own conclusion" is many times just lazy writing. In this case, lazy. Now a complex story, with an ambiguous ending? Good for drawing own conclusion.
Especially, when the older woman, has just granted her the permission to stay longer, befriending her, she shows zero gratitude, zero curiosity or reflection on what the man's imprisonment can mean.

Usually the acting in some of the short films are kind of "eh" but I have to say that Mary in this video was, in my opinion, great ! She had me convinced when she was scared, or nervous...angry,! A lot of expressions in those brown doe-like eyes!
After the son killed his mother, Mary saw this as an opportunity to gain a house, land, and and safety. She imprisoned him again, taking over where Mother left off. Am I close?

Folks, it's obvioius what happened. The woman's husband left/died/went to war and they had a baby boy. She became unhinged living so long in the middle of nowhere. She promised herself no other man would leave her ever again (including her son) so she confined him to the celler where he grew up in chains. Everything was peachy keen until Mary showed up unannounced. Torn between lonliness and *protecting* the only man in her life, Mother helped Mary.
That could be a way of seeing it, among many others. The film doesn't give or show much to work with (which leaves lots of room for - legit - interpretation). I would take the (pre) plot to other more fictional areas, seeing as the atmosphere/reality of the film strangely relies on *isolation, agression* and a weird duality between (either) *confinement* or in turn *danger.* Maybe something happened on Earth, in the not-so-distant past, a disease, radiation, whatever, that made humans unpredictably switch between normality and bursts of agression. That made nobody trust *no one,* not even within families. As people killed each other, the landscape went more and more deserted. Parents that could protect their young would do it, but also making sure they would need to stay safe from them as well. Eventually, this meating between the girl and the woman happened, with each one not fully trusting the other, of course. That would explain why the woman was so hesitant in letting the girl stay, and also why she simply answered that "mothers protect... *from those who hurt"!* Notice the agression burst of the mother herself when she found them together, knocking her son down cold and going for a knife right away. Notice also how the boy switched between child-like and maniac within minutes! I think it's a fair way of imagining it all, also IMO.
Had he killed before when he was younger? Maybe this was the reason she kept him chained up at home instead of turning him over. Every family has deep dark secrets & she didn’t want her good name ruined.
LaShell P yeah...even I think that the guy was psycho....if he would have been left free...he would have emerged out to be a danger for others as well as for himself... probably that's the reason (and biggest fear of his mother) his mother kept him caged.....coz she said at last...I want to save him...I want to save us!!
OR... he (it being set in an older time than the present) was a child from and unwed mother. Instead of letting the world know she'd been knocked up without being married and face the shame that it would bring to her and her family she hid the pregnancy and locked him up downstairs, where no one would ever find him. Over the years he'd surely go mad... I mean think about it... he's mid twenties Id say, so 20+ years locked inside a basement with no windows, chained to a wall under the steps, with only candle light. All at the hands of the one who should have loved him the most.... Thats enough to make anyone snap...

Right. Unless I missed something, I am going to assume that the young man killed his mom because she had him chained up. It is hard to believe that the young woman would not take this into consideration before chaining him up again.

It's so much harder to get a free house these days. I'd totally go skipping across the prairie getting in ppls business if I thought I'd get a house out of it. Taking care of the murderer son though... That's collateral damage I guess.
It used to be fairly common to keep people who were violently mentally ill or suffered from mental impairment chained up if the family was too poor to send them to an asylum. In fact, my husband's grandfather suffered what was called a "brain storm" and spent the last few years of his life chained to the leg of a kitchen table because his illness made him unpredictable and prone to wander off and terrorize the countryside. He was also said to be fantastically strong, and broke his chains a couple of times. Almost a century later, his grandson developed a blood clot in his liver that affected his body's ability to filter out its own naturally occuring DMT, and the last couple months of his life were a continuous bad trip...which is why I don't think I'm ever going to try taking DMT!
This is the cycle of life. We judged our parents behaviour and we end doing the same thing. Judged others and if we are in their position we end doing the same things. It’s all about the perspective that we looked at things from it.
I don’t think so/ Moms a psycho. She didn’t want him to ever feel any pain or heartache .... Mothers protect. From what says girlS mom says from those who want to cause pain: ..... He is locked down there so no one can ever cause him pain or hurt him. She had no reason to bash the girl too... and when the man snaps and kills her it’s not a mother as he had no motherly bond... it’s impossible when he’s raised that way it’s just a captor to him after though he’s sad and very distraught remorseful which is something psychos don’t do... also he went to find the girl and wasn’t trying to hurt her in anyway he wants to be with her that’s all she showed him love and when mom went after her he protected her and killed his own mother to save her But guess what she did She broke his heart Chained him back up And left. Just what the mom was trying to prevent all those years. He got his heart broke and was betrayed by a woman he loved... so to speak. Ha. Mom is totally wacko it’s clear she’s the bad guy here not him. I’d do the same thing if I was chained in a basement for decades.
What the makers have to remember is that a lot of these are viewed on phones and other small devices and when it's this dark, it's hardly viewable, especially in the light.
Katherine Meyer she could've gotten help from the authorities instead of continuing to hold a man hostage after he killed a psycho that was previously holding him hostage and probably abusing him. In situations like this he's just as much a victim as she was, presumably, by her father. They both need professional help.
This doesn't seem to be based in modern times. She was running away from something, and in the old old days she would have been taken back to her father because she is just a silly girl, and men know better.
I wish there was more to the plot I understand leaving things to the imagination but it is lacking a real reason for what is going on?? Confused 🤷♀️ in Canada 🇨🇦
EXCELLENT job!! I am a Twilight Zone fan also and found this to be a wonderful piece. I bet ol' Rod (Rod Serling) would have been complimented and amused at its being so "Twilight Zone-ish"; Kudos to all involved!!
That was SCARY good! LOVED IT! The acting was 1st rate! Cinematography - great (maybe could have been a bit brighter. Hard to see what was going on). I like the fact that it left me thinking! It didn't spoon feed me the "back story", but allows the viewer to figure it out for themselves, so, people in the comments...you are ALL correct!
I'm only at half but this movie took my heart and got my attention. Beautiful costumes and acting, and the Mary actress is a really beautiful girl! Edit: I really like movies that use country symbols/superstitions, and you totally did it!
so this is amazing and i’m just like while she’s looking into the darkness trying to get Jessie out, thinking about how on edge i’d feel. i remember when i was at my cousins house and we went down the road and to this place full of old stuff, turns out it was someone’s back yard and they SAW US. anyway we BOLTED, and i thought i would hav to carry my cousin but i didn’t bc she’s kinda young and hurt her ankle but she kept running and we were scared like hell so, why wouldn’t she.
Amazing film. Absolutely loved it. New woman/Wife takes over the duty of a mother/another woman to contain the monster inside the man/ son/husband. So the mysterious logic behind the marriage is solved 🤔
Captivating from the beginning. The right amount of mystery and atmosphere; wonderful acting that compliments all that is tense and curious about this short film and lovely camera work. The pacing is good, the sound is crisp and appropriate...just a wonderful job all around.
The hand that rocks the cradle also makes the dough. To one you are beholden for bringing you into the world, to the other for letting you continue in the world beyond your death: the real shackles.
@@joybarker7906 I thought it was a deep short story. It just made me think how one woman is there when you enter life, and another one is there for when you leave and what you leave behind. Three characters appear in this story, but I think if you look at it, it's just two persons. Look at the "Mother" and the "Girl/Woman" Both know how to make "dough", they were both trained by their respective mothers, who had been trained in turn by their mothers, all the way back to the beginning. The dough gives them control, and the ability to protect the "Son/Man" from the destructive forces inside. Two opposite forces in equilibrium, both necessary for the wheel of life to turn. Yeah I guess I enjoyed this short a lot.

Leaving all parts of the movie up to the viewers interpretation and watching everyone's comments are great. 1.) I think the mom was like Carey's mom on the Stephen king movie, where she thinks ALL men are bad. Her son has a penis so he's naturally bad and she just had to keep him locked away. 2.) Keeping a young kid tied in a basement all his life is abuse, and nobody needs to give them their privacy when abuse is happening. 3.) You understand why he killed the mom. She was abusive. 4.) For the girl to save him just to lock him up again, wow, what a dick move!
Lost. Did mother lock him up because he was violent and she had to protect everyone from being hurt by him when she said he will hurt Or does she mean someone will break his heart and make him hurt like the father did with her perhaps? Was he really violent and vicious or a normal reaction to be in chains for decades alone in a dark basement. He seemed to be overwhelmed by emotions which I feel would be expected in that Situation but once the adrenaline wore off he realized he had murdered his own mother and became overwelmed with sadness and guilt... hurt. He never had these emotions before being locked in the basement and with no interactions how would he know how to deal with anger and such? I am not sure what to think Did she lock him back up because she’s afraid of him or because she wants to help him never hurt again like a mother figure? Or was she simply insane as well from also being in captivity (she mentions getting free) and perhaps she seen a way to love someone while keeping him safe as well as gain a house and land. Perhaps she now feels like his mother and she must protect him so he never hurts like he did when he killed his mother.. ever again? I wish the creator would shine some light on this story ... it could be So many things and I don’t know if it’s meant to be confusing or a way to make you come to your own conclusion or if there’s a general storyline or reason for it all and has one true meaning?!? So lost.
Yes, this is a short motion picture with a virtue, and it.........as Alfred Hitchcock was wont to say, " points a little moral ". But, we needn't look too deeply. Looking too deeply into the virtues, and into the moral of the story, might take us farther from the entertainment value of this very superb motion picture. But, also let's not de - construct this piece. It's a near-perfect near-flawless example of incredible casting, writing, and directing that wastes not one single moment of space.....and THAT, alone. is worth the good commentary. All in all, this is a gem of a beautiful piece. Our director shows us the true beauty of restrained but effective acting by the three cast members. Thank you, to all cast and crew.
The only complaint I have is that it's so dark I can only see like half of the film. I understand it's part of the setting but just a little more light would be nice.
That mother new her son was a killer...probably schizophrenic.. in those days there was no help for people like that except being locked up and being made crazier....she meddeled and got that woman killed....now she has the burden of doing the same thing.....she left one captive for another...thanks for this movie..LOVED IT!!
They could’ve added a few more candles. This movie was very dark and hurt my eyes. Edit: The title has very little to do with this movie. I thought the dough was gonna morph in to a monster or something but nah it was only used to smother his mom 😂

This is the cycle of life. We judged our parents behaviour and we end doing the same thing. Judged others and if we are in their position we end doing the same things. It’s all about the perspective that we looked at things from it.
Mother: "We are saving him. We are saving us."
Son is a killer.
I don’t think so/
Moms a psycho.
She didn’t want him to ever feel any pain or heartache
....
Mothers protect. From what says girlS mom says from those who want to cause pain:
.....
He is locked down there so no one can ever cause him pain or hurt him. She had no reason to bash the girl too... and when the man snaps and kills her it’s not a mother as he had no motherly bond... it’s impossible when he’s raised that way it’s just a captor to him after though he’s sad and very distraught remorseful which is something psychos don’t do... also he went to find the girl and wasn’t trying to hurt her in anyway he wants to be with her that’s all she showed him love and when mom went after her he protected her and killed his own mother to save her
But guess what she did
She broke his heart
Chained him back up
And left.
So the knowledge of making bread is passed down from mother to daughter....I like that. Great story!
They were just making bread and now they want each other dead ??
i agree with whoever feels she was being nosy, leave it alone & worry bout yourself.
Dang. He got free from one crazy female only to get stuck with another.
Did she really only lock him up for "protection"?

Katherine Meyer she could've gotten help from the authorities instead of continuing to hold a man hostage after he killed a psycho that was previously holding him hostage and probably abusing him. In situations like this he's just as much a victim as she was, presumably, by her father. They both need professional help.
This doesn't seem to be based in modern times. She was running away from something, and in the old old days she would have been taken back to her father because she is just a silly girl, and men know better.
Well, that's what usually happens in relationships! People with abusive parents are often attracted to abusive people, and on and on it goes!
Plot, acting, cinematography, plot was all well done. Very well written short and enjoyable!
GIVE US PART 2 THE ACTING WAS AMAZING AND I WANNA SEE A SEQUEL PART 222222
I wish there was more to the plot I understand leaving things to the imagination but it is lacking a real reason for what is going on?? Confused 🤷♀️ in Canada 🇨🇦
EXCELLENT job!! I am a Twilight Zone fan also and found this to be a wonderful piece. I bet ol' Rod (Rod Serling) would have been complimented and amused at its being so "Twilight Zone-ish"; Kudos to all involved!!
It doesn't always have to be dark to be scary. Lighten up a little!
I almost fall asleep when watching this movie.. so dark..and then..i don’t know what happened.. zzz
Well... four thousand people were able to see it, so maybe you should see an eye doctor after all?
That was SCARY good! LOVED IT! The acting was 1st rate! Cinematography - great (maybe could have been a bit brighter. Hard to see what was going on). I like the fact that it left me thinking! It didn't spoon feed me the "back story", but allows the viewer to figure it out for themselves, so, people in the comments...you are ALL correct!
More like "D'oh!" -- when she clanks the shackles back on him.
The whole movie played out like looking for your car keys in a dark cinema hall...you just hear something but don't know what the HELL is going on
I had to turn up my brightness all the way 😂😂😂 but anyway, that actor was cuuuute!! Wish I could see him in the light
I'm only at half but this movie took my heart and got my attention. Beautiful costumes and acting, and the Mary actress is a really beautiful girl!
Edit: I really like movies that use country symbols/superstitions, and you totally did it!
So glad you liked it!
This short horror film was incredible! Kudos to all of those involved...the acting is spot on! Great job, guys!
A Sick & Disturbing Short Film !!!
Brilliant !
This was so Intriguing! Normally you can see the ending right away but this one kept me guessing!
Well done
Awesome story! Loved the twist in the end, totally didn't expect that at all!
This was superb! You dont find this kind of quality in the short horror films very often. This one nailed it
if i make you another loaf will you let me stay?!
with what my own dough😂💀
so this is amazing and i’m just like while she’s looking into the darkness trying to get Jessie out, thinking about how on edge i’d feel. i remember when i was at my cousins house and we went down the road and to this place full of old stuff, turns out it was someone’s back yard and they SAW US. anyway we BOLTED, and i thought i would hav to carry my cousin but i didn’t bc she’s kinda young and hurt her ankle but she kept running and we were scared like hell so, why wouldn’t she.
Amazing film. Absolutely loved it. New woman/Wife takes over the duty of a mother/another woman to contain the monster inside the man/ son/husband. So the mysterious logic behind the marriage is solved 🤔
I like that the actors in these shorts are good actors and the photography is a good quality.
What a heartbreaking story; I feel so bad for that guy. Wonderful film!
Damn that's deep. Brilliant!
You guys are so very talented at story telling.
Stephen King ain't got shit on you.
BRUTAL AWESOMENESS WESOMENESS
wow was not expecting that👀 beautiful cinematography “a mothers job is to protect”
Me at 1:36 am
Brain cell 1: ooo we should go to bed...
Brain cell 2: ADHD ADHD ADHD CRACK HEAD ENERGY YEAHHHHHHHH
brain cell 3: *depression*
brain cell 4: *thinks about everything but important things*
Brain cell 5: How have 5 of us survived through this annoying dumb child’s life so far?
me: let’s watch a horror short film! :D
SAME, Rinse, lather, repeat! 😉
❤️
Great twist never expected.. this is a real
Short
Too dark man but it good 👍
Dough? For that guy, it's more like D'OH!
Superb performances.
No father.
Was Jessie responsible, I wonder, either in driving him away or for his death?!
Wtf did not see that ending.
Congrats great short film 😍
Lost.
Did mother lock him up because he was violent and she had to protect everyone from being hurt by him when she said he will hurt
Or
does she mean someone will break his heart and make him hurt like the father did with her perhaps?
Was he really violent and vicious or a normal reaction to be in chains for decades alone in a dark basement. He seemed to be overwhelmed by emotions which I feel would be expected in that
Situation but once the adrenaline wore off he realized he had murdered his own mother and became overwelmed with sadness and guilt... hurt.
He never had these emotions before being locked in the basement and with no interactions how would he know how to deal with anger and such?
I am not sure what to think
Did she lock him back up because she’s afraid of him or because she wants to help him never hurt again like a mother figure? Or was she simply insane as well from also being in captivity (she mentions getting free) and perhaps she seen a way to love someone while keeping him safe as well as gain a house and land. Perhaps she now feels like his mother and she must protect him so he never hurts like he did when he killed his mother.. ever again?
I wish the creator would shine some light on this story ... it could be
So many things and I don’t know if it’s meant to be confusing or a way to make you come to your own conclusion or if there’s a general storyline or reason for it all and has one true meaning?!?
So lost.
I freaking love these short movies!!! I am not sure what the whole situation is, but I know that was a good story!
This is not an actual movie!! Its SO AWESOME.
The only complaint I have is that it's so dark I can only see like half of the film. I understand it's part of the setting but just a little more light would be nice.
Very gothic. And beautiful imagery. This film crept into my imagination. Thank you.
And my thought was... that she had a massive clean up to do in the kitchen 😂😂 Great short 👍 A couple of years or 4 to late on the comment 😉😁
okay. this is truly a good story. i applaud.
The acting in this movie is A+
That mother new her son was a killer...probably schizophrenic.. in those days there was no help for people like that except being locked up and being made crazier....she meddeled and got that woman killed....now she has the burden of doing the same thing.....she left one captive for another...thanks for this movie..LOVED IT!!
Thank you so much!!! We appreciate people taking the time to watch and its so nice to know that you enjoyed the film!
Clever and well put together
They could’ve added a few more candles. This movie was very dark and hurt my eyes.
Edit: The title has very little to do with this movie. I thought the dough was gonna morph in to a monster or something but nah it was only used to smother his mom 😂
Amazing! Now I love this one, it gets the audience glued to the screen, hehe. But hey, I wonder why you guys don't get a lot of views...All of your films are beautifully shot! Have you done the video tags and all? Maybe promoting your channel is a good idea too! :D
Another little gem
Be careful what u wish for.it just might come true! Gr8 effort all! Everything was gr8! Thank u...
Thank you so much! 😀
This is really good! You guys deserve more subscriber.
everybody repeat after me, TOXIC PARENTING.
Halfway in, but I am enjoying this
That boy needs to find a way to escape.
Escape and kill more??
Ketty Jú Caetano he probably won’t kill people that *did not* keep him locked in a basement. We’re there other clues that he was the real crazy one?
@@haileyr2264 hoo u are right... Sorry for that...
That hit me more melancholy and tragic than it did as horror. But it was beautifully made, whatever the case.
Holy shit....all these short films are good on this CHANNEL🙁🙁🙁🙁
Very good!!! Brutal... definitely should watch...
At least she knows how to make the dough for the bread!! I'm so sorry, Jesse! 💚
Very Good ! Thank You !
When he said his name was Jesse, I jumped cuz my name's Jesse.
The actings are solid. Kudos to you guys
I got ❤ from screamfest! Gotta binge watching again 😁😁
screamfest short horror films marathon again😊😁
👏👏
Also, I love films that take place in the past like this, but this was more sad and tragic than anything. ;-;
ending was a bit of a let down for me.. but nice work..acting was great
I understood the ending of this one. A lot of yours I don't. So thank you :)
Thanks for watching!
Great acting, atmosphere, story..... thank you for giving us closure!
