  • Home-growing video of the Eastern's Lychee plant from seed in 76 days. The seed was extracted from an oriental grocery's fresh lychee fruit. It was then germinated in water for 6 days, then transplant to a small pot for indoor growing. Plant was watered daily and bathed under a grow light to simulate that of the tropical climate.
    Lychee is also known as Litchi, it's an evergreen tree native to Vietnam, Southern China province, and Taiwan. Fruit is super sweet and juicy, perfect to enjoy raw.

      It sounds like either a watering (under or over) issue or sunburn. You might try to place a soil-water meter to monitoring the moisture level.

    How many foot candles/lux do you grow your lychee under? I grow mine at around 500 foot candles, but I'm worried it may sunstress the leaves since the bigger of the bunch still have reddish brown leaves.

    • @eLapseTime
      @eLapseTime  2 года назад +1

      Sorry, I don't have a meter, so I can't measure the lux. I used a 30-watt light and hanged about a foot above the plant.

    It's a total waste of time to grow a lychee tree or a longon tree from seed, as it will take almost 7 years to fruit even in a subtropical climate. I know this for a fact as I grew them myself some 30 years ago when living on acerage. Grow a mango instead, as it will take 4 years to properly fruit, and so will a guave tree from seed.

      Sure it's lovely to see a fruit tree grow from seed. But to wait 10 to 12 years for it to fruit is pure madness. Idk brother Shaneyaw, I had like 15+ seeds and 3-4 started growing roots and 2 of them started growing and I have one that’s growing really decently Alhamdulilah. So it really varies from your location, your environment and how much sun, water and nutrients but most importantly it starts with doing it cuz you want to have a tree grow up with you and knowing that you/ your family will reap the benefits of having planted the tree.
      Like someone said the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is now. So do it so it will be a source of shade and food for people and birds and who knows you might get more than just a tree, you might rewarded for the goodness of your heart In’sha’Allah ☺️🫶🏻

    I know the video was posted a while back so I am just hoping someone who has grown lychee will respond with some good advice, I have 3 questions (I’d appreciate your kind advice):
    1) Do we keep lychee in direct sunlight or indirect one like besides the window sill so it gets sunlight but not too harsh one especially if you live in a harsh 30°C+ weather?
    2) do we need to do grafting for it to bear fruit earlier like done to many other fruits like Mango and Apple or is it not necessary?
    3) what has the earliest you have gotten fruit from your lychee plant/ tree?
    Thanks ☺️

      I have grown a lychee in wales. Its about a year old, but id recomend making a small cut on the flat end of the lychee seed before germanating. Chances are unless your in a very warm country it will never fruit. Or at least take 7-12 years
