- Home-growing video of the Eastern's Lychee plant from seed in 76 days. The seed was extracted from an oriental grocery's fresh lychee fruit. It was then germinated in water for 6 days, then transplant to a small pot for indoor growing. Plant was watered daily and bathed under a grow light to simulate that of the tropical climate.
Lychee is also known as Litchi, it's an evergreen tree native to Vietnam, Southern China province, and Taiwan. Fruit is super sweet and juicy, perfect to enjoy raw.

Thank you very much!
What kind of light are you providing it
1:49 my litchi plant has grown that big in 12 days but its leaf is so tiny
Your videos plants look so healthy , you responded to my question before but do I remember correctly that your lighting was a simple led for your grow light , what wattage?
Tim, I used a 30-watt LED grow light for this guy.
my plant is one year old, but it is shedding its leaves (already 4 out of 10, and 2 more are turning brown). it's normal? What do I do to fix it?
It sounds like either a watering (under or over) issue or sunburn. You might try to place a soil-water meter to monitoring the moisture level.
I have a lychee tree. Just threw the seed out n it grew. I don't know which year it grew but its been minimum 5 years or more. And i dont know when ill be able to see it fruit.
P.s- i have never seen a lychee fruit grow in my area. Ive only seen trees
I've heard that it takes around 7 years for a lychee tree grown from seed to bear fruit, and ofc u need a warmer climate for them to start fruiting or else they won't fruit even if they're mature enough
I seriously doubt this tree is growing this fast. I have a Lychee tree I have been growing under strong lights in a grow tent and it took way longer than this video shows to grow this much.
Exactly my thoughts. I have mine for 6 Months now, and it's not that big yet.
growing a lychee tree right now, however it took about a month just to get a tiny little sapling. looks like a curve. still, cant wait for fruits in a couple years 😅
How many foot candles/lux do you grow your lychee under? I grow mine at around 500 foot candles, but I'm worried it may sunstress the leaves since the bigger of the bunch still have reddish brown leaves.
Sorry, I don't have a meter, so I can't measure the lux. I used a 30-watt light and hanged about a foot above the plant.
How to peel a leachi
Why were the leaves getting warped and distorted after the first few sets of leaves?
I'm not sure exactly why, but I guess, it needs more soil, space, and stronger light.
Can you grow in next video rambutan and almond? That will be great
Yes, they are already in our list.
@@eLapseTime excellent
@@eLapseTimecan you do one on Java Plum/ Jamun?
how do i grow a giant lychee from a giant lychee seed is it the same process?
Yes, it should be the same.
Is there any problems if I hurt the seed ?
Yes, the seed may not sprout or slower sprout, if it has a serious damage. You should germinate few seeds at a time to increase the chance of sprouting.
Growing pine plase
Mine is 3 weeks now and roots are only about 10mm long.
It's in fertile potting soil.
It's summer and warm.
Any suggestions to speed up growth?
Idem🥲
@@GreadX_69 what?
@@rezo786 idem, in Italy, it's a slang used to say "equal” or "same thing", I thought that in America/England you were the same too
you probably had a lack of humidity
@@GreadX_69 in spain we use that too.
How long will it be before it fruits when starting from a seed?
It may take up to 10-year
@@eLapseTime seriously I will die that time
@@oldgamer9593don’t worry, don’t think of it like that, think of it as a shade and fruit provider and as a stamp of your existence after you are long gone, something that will be there as an actual fruit of your seed 😌 do it for the sake of pure goodness and you will see it being returned to you In’sha’Allah ☺️🫶🏻
do longan
U should must cut your leaves That disturb New leaves to grow other wise tree should much bigger
Wull it produce fruit? How long?
Average of 3 to 5 years
When is the season of lychees
It depends on we’re you live ans what source you use but from what I gather the season is from late may and ends in September for most of the world.
So you never watered it, if that's in real time I would be seeing someone watering the plant. Like , Am I missing anything?
Hi sir I am from Cyprus is any way that I can make lychee grow here?
Hi, Lychee is a tropical plant. If you live in a tropical country, then you can grow it outside, otherwise, you may grow it in a greenhouse or in a pot as a houseplant like me 😉
@@eLapseTime thanks sir
@@eLapseTime where I can buy that thing you put the seed to grow ?
0:42
It's just a glass/plastic container. I used it only for video purpose. In general, you don't need it, simply wrapping the seeds in a wet paper towel and put in a ziplock bag.
it looks like a mango tree i mean the leaves do
Yes, the shape is similar, but the mango tree's 🌿 leaves are much bigger.
ABCDEFG..... FROM A FAMILY FREE
It's a total waste of time to grow a lychee tree or a longon tree from seed, as it will take almost 7 years to fruit even in a subtropical climate. I know this for a fact as I grew them myself some 30 years ago when living on acerage. Grow a mango instead, as it will take 4 years to properly fruit, and so will a guave tree from seed.
Never a waste of time to grow a tree :) always wonderful to see the seed grow into a plant, the plant grow into a tree :) even if it is only for interest to groe something from seed, i just love it!🎉
Sure it's lovely to see a fruit tree grow from seed. But to wait 10 to 12 years for it to fruit is pure madness. I'd rather go to the local fruit shop and buy them when they are in season.@@lesley-annmathews7971 Only a person without brains would love wasting time growing fruit trees that takes ages to bear fruit.
Time passes either way
It sure does, but I rather do better things with MY TIME, than WASTE it.@@Uhhuhok434 Have a great day.
Come seven years, he will have many fruits but you shall have none
This video is faked. Lychee, rambutan, and longan are all from the soapberry family and are notoriously hard to grow. Not only that but they grow very slowly.
You mean this was created by CGI. I'm not that good 🤣 You should try to grow one, it's not that hard like you think.
Idk brother Shaneyaw, I had like 15+ seeds and 3-4 started growing roots and 2 of them started growing and I have one that’s growing really decently Alhamdulilah. So it really varies from your location, your environment and how much sun, water and nutrients but most importantly it starts with doing it cuz you want to have a tree grow up with you and knowing that you/ your family will reap the benefits of having planted the tree.
Like someone said the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is now. So do it so it will be a source of shade and food for people and birds and who knows you might get more than just a tree, you might rewarded for the goodness of your heart In’sha’Allah ☺️🫶🏻
I know the video was posted a while back so I am just hoping someone who has grown lychee will respond with some good advice, I have 3 questions (I’d appreciate your kind advice):
1) Do we keep lychee in direct sunlight or indirect one like besides the window sill so it gets sunlight but not too harsh one especially if you live in a harsh 30°C+ weather?
2) do we need to do grafting for it to bear fruit earlier like done to many other fruits like Mango and Apple or is it not necessary?
3) what has the earliest you have gotten fruit from your lychee plant/ tree?
Thanks ☺️
I have grown a lychee in wales. Its about a year old, but id recomend making a small cut on the flat end of the lychee seed before germanating. Chances are unless your in a very warm country it will never fruit. Or at least take 7-12 years
@@fredstar-mw4tl thank you for the advice dear.
My lychee plant is stuck and is not really growing taller than I’d say around 10 inches.
Did this happen to you? What should I do?
2 of its five leaves are starting to become brown as well.
